More Treasures Unearthed in My Pre-Spring Cleaning

I’ve been using the lighter colored box for years as a daily work basket, but forgot they I used to pair it with another carved piece from India.
I’m now using the darker box to store spools of thread which I don’t use nearly as often as my embroidery floss.
More than half of the spools are really nice wool thread that my mother had bought when she was experimenting with using wool in her quilts. When she didn’t get into it, I inherited the thread!

I ended up keeping two things for myself out of everything I made last year: the samples for Retiarius and Spurdog. The latter I’ve worn out and gotten compliments on, though I’ve only really styled the former and then gave it up. Anyhow, the actual secret to wearing this type of shawl even if you’re usually very masculine and minimalist in terms of personal style is to embody the attitude that you’re about to rob a train. You get all kinds of compliments.
#which was not what i was necessarily anticipating#knitting#knitblr#wool#cotton#knit#texture#handspun#thread#the other secret is a lot of the fabric can be tucked into your zipped-up jacket and thus obscured if you’re cold and feeling shy

Putting some hand spun and hand knit garments to the test in below freezing temps. A vintage Pendleton wool skirt, a vintage thick Winter Silk blouse, my hand knit kilt hose, and my hand spun and hand knit hobbiton vest.
#eclectic but warm!#knitblr#ootd#highland schottische kilt hose#hobbiton vest#paired with my mittens and a wool overcoat I am quite warm!#the only loose thread is my slip. it’s like rayon and from my mom. very cold. need some cotton or cotton/wool blend bloomers#that would make this perfect#my crafts

my gay son
#aka filet crochet that took me 9 months to complete#this is not new he has been in the closet for about four years. hes auite heavy as well so ive not worn him very often.#anyway to me he's not really a scarf he's just a big old rectangle to me#and the blocking on this is actually sooo bad bc as u may be able to tell that thing is gigantic and i ran out of black thread and the stor#where i bought it way on summer break so i bought black thread somewhere else and i thought it was the same yarn weight but it was ever so#slightly thicker so the last ~10 rows are really wavy. thats issue no 1 the second problem with the hugeness was that i just had nowhere i#could block it on so i mcgyvered a solution which was a wool blanket tucked over my sheets and i blocked it on there and i wore my#bathing suit to sit on it to block bc it didnt work any other way. and then come night time of course it was still wet (even tho i pointed#blowdryer at it for so long that the blowdryer switched off by itself due some child safety mechanism) and i had to take it off my bed so i#could sleep on it. so yes the blocking is a bit wonky#crochet#mine

learn even the tiniest amount about historical fashion and textiles and you will experience rage beyond comprehension that all the soft, durable, beautiful fabrics have been taken from us and replaced by plastic and cheaper manufacturing

I’ll spend hours spinning thread from wool while chanting as a simple spell for on-the-fly work, I’ll put a strand of someone’s hair into the weft while spinning if it’s for someone specific.
Afterwards I take the thread and wrap it around a candle to burn or tie it to a tree or whatever depending on the nature of the spell.
It’s a great way to get into a trance as well.
I cannot say enough how versatile thread work and weaving is for witchcraft!

i like wool a normal amount says person with room full of wool yarn, wool hats, wool sweaters, wool blazers, wool blankets, wool cushions, wool slippers, and wool scarves and who likes wool a little more than a normal amount
#rubia speaks#wool#some of it is wool yarn based and some of it is wool fluff used like a fur (but threaded into the textile base instead of on skin)
