some notes:

aside from basil's parents' general design and the implication that they're busy and rich, everything else about his family outside of his grandmother is cat's headcanon!

the flowers assigned to each family member are olive blossom (oliver), dahlia (dahlia), sea aster (oliver's father), goldenrod (elijah), rosemary (rosemary), and azaleas (basil's grandmother)

the flowers in the last part represent the people (new and old) in basil's life!

dahlias are in the same family as daisies and sunflowers!

basil's dream of his family tree/garden is inspired by the meadow in headspace

spirit mari takes the form of her 15 year old self to basil, as he never wants to turn away from the truth again

the realization that rielle is like probably 17-19 (per her comment about being due for the elezen growth spurt) puts an entirely new spin on that line of quests lmao particularly every time she's like sidurgu dude i am not your surrogate daughter. imagine constantly being treated like an orphaned waif child by a 26 year old man with depression and it's literally just because you're a short teenager and he met your mom one time. remarkable stuff.

kinda wanted to write some sappy post about the season ending and everything but also dont want to force yet another long text post down your throats so i'm gonna try to keep this short…..

feels like this f2 season passed in just the blink of an eye, doesn't it? it feels like yesterday we were sitting there, all excited for the first few races… watched pepe score double podiums in his first ever formula 2 round… watched paul score that iconic p3 in bahrain despite his penalty… we saw kimi masterclass in the rain, we saw underrated rookies challenge the veterans, we saw eighteen different race winners… and these last two weekends, we even finally got to see paul and pepe score their first wins……

we cried over podiums, long breaks, crashes, qualifying results… we got up early in the mornings, stayed up late at night, had the stream on our phones at school/work… all to watch these lovely little drivers who've brought us so much joy :(

i just wanted to say a big big thank you to everyone who wanted to come to my blog to experience this season with me. this blog would be nothing without you all, you mean the world to me! 🩷

any good recommend for Jewish fashion for Sam?

Howdy, I've been letting this one percolate for a bit, hence the delay. It's an interesting question! Short answer is unfortunately no, I don't have a specific 'Jewish fashion' trend or subculture to recommend.

Longer answer, Jewish folks live in dozens of countries and we've been around for thousands of years. While Torah and halacha (Jewish law) covers many aspects of day-to-day living as well as holidays and more special occasions, it doesn't say a lot about how to dress for the common person (vs how it's pretty specific about holy day garb for cohanim). In Orthodox circles it's a matter of religious and cultural significance to dress modestly (though as with most Jewish laws and customs, the definitions of these things vary community to community) and while there's exceptions (Hasidics notably), most Jewish communities dress largely in line with the custom of where they're living (eg Orthodox women in the US typically wear long sleeves and full skirts, but in a Western style).

That said, Sam and her family don't seem to be Orthodox, and could be interpreted easily as Conservative or Reform (to be clear, the Jewish Conservative denomination has nothing to do with political conservatism, and tends towards progressive and egalitarian ideals; I grew up in a conservative synagogue and girls read torah, led services, etc), so even a lot of distinctive Jewish dress I could talk about isn't super relevant to her because those movements don't have a lot of the same customs around clothing.

Jewelry is more common as an expression of Jewish identity and culture than specific clothing, especially featuring a Star of David/Magen David, hamsa, ayin hara, or an emblem of a torah or mezzuzah, on necklaces, bracelets, and earrings, in a variety of styles from intricately ornamented to quite simple. And even that is a matter of personal preference by and large; one person might wear a magen david necklace every day, another only on special occasions or when they feel like it, another never, and none of those is 'more' or 'less' Jewish. That said, I do think Sam would be interested in that kind of Jewish visibility, which is part of why I often depict her with a Star of David charm on her necklace.

Here's a little intro on myjewishlearning that expands on some of what I've talked about here, and is also a decent site for poking around in general. That said I know doing research can be daunting, it's hard to know what's fact vs custom vs opinion, what the context of information is, what questions to even be asking, and also that it's often just more fun and engaging to ask questions directly. Warcraft Rant Incoming

I really need to talk about one of my favorite characters—and, in my opinion, the best-written villain in all of World of Warcraft—Garrosh Hellscream.

The conflict between orcs and humans was the original foundation WoW is built on. Modern lore may revolve around cosmic threats and complex narratives about the nature of reality itself, but I still believe the "simple" theme of war between the Horde and Alliance has a place in modern WoW—even if faction identity has felt diluted and almost non-existent for quite a while. Why? Because no cosmic drama will ever match the tragedy of Garrosh and his vision of the Horde.

Most games frame their villains as inherently different from the heroes—cartoonishly evil, detached from reality. Even in real life, people often treat bigots as if bigots are a sub-species of humans that was created in a lab by some evil scientist and unleashed upon the world like a plague. Warcraft, however, did something remarkable: it gave fascism a face—one that was frighteningly understandable.

Garrosh wasn’t some mustache-twirling caricature. He was a once-respected warrior with his own pain and a sense of honor—a character we followed for years before his fall. The game didn’t just depict the horrors of a fascist regime; it showed us how it took root, and most chillingly, why it resonated.

And that "why" is the most devastating part of it all—because sometimes, Garrosh wasn’t wrong.

The orcs of Garrosh's generation were punished for the sins they didn't commit. Their fathers had drunk the blood of Mannoroth, slaughtered the draenei, invaded Azeroth, and burned Stormwind to the ground. Many elders died either in battle or seeking redemption — leaving their children to bear the weight of their atrocities. They did not choose to be born into this. Their only crime was existence, and Garrosh promised them something they had been denied — dignity and pride.

The new generation carried the crushing burden of inherited guilt. Alliance saw them as monsters, and even Thrall's reforms could not erase that. His vision for the Horde was noble, yes — but nobility doesn't fill empty stomachs or shield the vulnerable. Orgrimmar itself stood as testament to their suffering, its foundations laid in a sun-scorched wasteland where every drop of water was fought for, every scrap of wood precious. While other races flourished in fertile homelands, the orcs were left to choke on dust and remorse.

When Garrosh promised the orcs to make them strong again, they listened. Why wouldn't they? What is the point of trying to be anything but a monster, if others will always see you as one and treat accordingly?

Garrosh understood the young orcs' pain because he had lived it himself, since he was a son of a demon-enslaved warlord. He grew up in shame. Shame for what his father did, shame for being left behind among the "weak". He wanted to prove himself as strong and worthy, and yearned for a new identity that wouldn’t revolve around shame. Thrall's leadership emasculated the orcs, and red pox emasculated Garrosh, by forcing him to stay among the weak, elderly and children, while others went to conquer Azeroth and forge their legends.

He offered them strength instead of subjugation, pride instead of penance — and they followed. Some truly believed their people bore no guilt. Others knew the Old Horde's crimes were monstrous but followed regardless. Why wouldn't they? When "redemption" means freezing in the dirt of a desert, when "atonement" tastes like starvation - what fool would choose such a path?

Their fathers were invaders. They were conquerors, murderers, slave owners, pillagers and rapists. And their sons and daughters will never wash this off. The humans and dwarves and elves would never forget, never forgive. So why grovel for absolution that would never come? Garrosh promised something more practical: a future where their children will finally be free of guilt and shame.

In a world that denied the young orcs justice, Garrosh at least offered them agency.

Garrosh’s fall was never just the story of an evil man—it was the story of a failure of the world to give his people a real chance. The more they suffered, the more they saw him not as a tyrant, but as a leader who refused to demand they apologize for their own existence. Even now, the orcs reap the benefits of Garrosh’s conquests—night elves gave them the lands of Azshara but only because the orcs DEMANDED and FOUGHT for it.

In the end, Garrosh and his loyalists became the very monsters the Alliance had always feared. Yet in many ways, the Alliance had shaped them into what they became. The sad part is that the orcs were doomed from the very beginning, and at the beginning, there were no evil monster and no noble heroes. Only humans defending their home from invaders, and invaders fighting to save their race from extinction and a dying world. The orcs became monsters, yes—but it was the only way to endure. Had they not fallen to the demonic corruption, had they not turned on the draenei, they would have shared the fate of countless other worlds the draenei had visited and left to be burned to ashes by the very forces the draenei themselves fled.

Garrosh’s story mirrors the real-world descent into extremism — fascism is never right, but when other doors are closed or hard to reach, the open door of violent pride feels like the only one left. Was Garrosh a self-made monster, or a product of a world that refused to let the orcs escape their past? The terrifying answer is «both». He is the man who executed his general for bombing civilian druids—and the same man who crushed a child’s bones by dropping a giant bell on him. He is a monster but he is a monster who died for his people, even as his madness drove them away, and despite everything, he is still a man who offered the orcs hope.

I'm Alliance through and through. My faction wanted Garrosh dead long before he went completely off the rails, and that's exactly why I love his story. He was the perfect villain — equally easy to admire and despise. Garrosh was nothing short of legendary, his iron will defined him to the very end. Even after death, when tortured in the Shadowlands, he refused to kneel. His final act was cursing his enemies while wearing his war crimes like medals of honor. That's peak warcraft lore to me.

I’d love to see WoW revisit the abandoned storyline of Yrel, the Lightbound, and Exarch Hellscream—but I doubt it’ll ever happen. The arc feels too old-school for modern WoW, and the community’s reaction was… volatile.

Tumblr and reddit dot com critics drowned all nuance in the cries of "antisemitism!"—ignoring the tragic duality of the draenei and orcs’ shared history completely. After the lawsuits, Blizzard hardly needs another controversy, so the story will probably remain buried.

Which is a shame. The draenei genocide was one of Warcraft’s most interesting and tragic narratives precisely because it wasn’t a simple tale of good versus evil. The draenei were refugees, yes—but also unwitting heralds of doom. Their flight from Argus doomed countless worlds we’ll never know and framing them as free of any guilt destroys the whole point of their story. This black-and-white interpretation might have contributed to Blizzard's shift away from complex themes of cyclical violence and intergenerational trauma to safer, more «marketable» storytelling. If you ever wondered why new WoW doesn’t feel like old WoW anymore, this is it. The real loss here isn't just an abandoned plotline, but the erosion of Warcraft's willingness to explore morally ambiguous territory - the very quality that made its world feel real.

And with the weakest quirk of the League, he's left alive? Like he's not even a threat to the heroes as himself? The complete lack of care that he's given in the story is...
