Winter Writeblr Gift Exchange!

A very happy holidays to my Winter Writeblr Gift Exchange partner @jaimistoryteller ! This is based on their story Shadow’s Sight, which is one of their many WIPs. Sorry if its a little grainy. I don't have a real photo editing program right now so my computer compressed it a bit when I put them all together. I had such a fun time creating this and taking a deeper look into your stories and posts! I am so excited to see more from this story especially. 

For your gift I found myself really drawn to these three characters, and the strong relationships they seem to have with one another, so I made aesthetic boards for them based off of what you told us in some of your main posts. I found Tzila’s devotion and loyalty to her sister very relatable. I also liked the idea of Khalon and Caralyn having such an impact on one another when they first meet. Also Khalon’s character and situation intrigues me. I would love to know more about him!

I had @katabasiss for Writeblr Winter Gift exchange, and just remembered to actually post it!

I just had vivid imagery from Bacari and just, had to make him a moodboard. I planned on there being a dolphin due to serious Dionysus vibes, but it’s gone. All of the quotes are lifted from excerpts posted on Kat’s blog. Check it out!

I’d love to see you use my original content or your own! If you want to use mine, I only have one full chapter posted for my story here. If you need to read more to get a feel for it, just let me know! I have three other chapters that are very rough, but I’m willing to share with you!

Moodboard I made for a few of my characters (along with some info about them):

Richard: Senior Agent for the MPS, uses his magic to manipulate the air. His personal song is a classical symphony. He’s very organized and hardworking. Without his work, he’d be lost. He doesn’t have many friends, or any aside from Amirah, Hazel (his cat) and his family, but he doesn’t mind. He enjoys being alone. Despite his outward serious demeanor, a big softy on the inside. He’s the youngest and only deaf agent in the MPS, both facts that he is extremely proud of.

Amirah: In charge of the Junior Agency. She’s a black gay woman who’s risen through the ranks due to her incredible power over manipulating light and her attention to details. She’s loud and proud, and loves getting into arguments with Richard. She’s married to her wife Lily who is pregnant with their baby boy. Her personal song is a rock anthem.

Chrysanthemum: Often describe (by Richard) as the lovechild between a unicorn and a rainbow. She loves heels and skirts and pastel colors. She’s incredibly kind and smart and tends to ramble when she gets on a topic that she is passionate about. She studies Necromancy, though due to her magic license being revoked, can not practice it. Her humor is on par with that of a middle school boy. Also, in mood board she is shown to be white, but I decided that she has vitiligo. Her song is a folksy love song.

Content you DO want to see: Anything dealing with my characters. Want to make a playlist for them? Awesome! In my world, magic is based off of the manipulation of energy (kinetic, potential, thermal, light, chemical, nuclear, and life). Each mage chooses one niche to study, such as the manipulation of fire, light, or wind. Energy can be harnessed and transformed to other kinds, but not created. This energy is heard as music. Plants, water, air, other natural things like that are individual instruments that make up the song of the world. While animals and humans and mages have individual songs that come from their soul (or life energy).

I wrote a short story! I wasn’t sure what you wanted and couldn’t find the survey, so please enjoy this weird  short story about the full moon. @renembles

Lunar Cycles

As a child, you hardly noticed lunar cycles. Sometimes, you’d catch the forecast in the print paper and see the little moon shapes in a row, and you’d see them there, with pertinent information like the weather and the temperature, and you wouldn’t think twice, as if they were just a decoration. Maybe it’s just something you get into when you get older—blaming weird things on the full moon.

The night before last was a full moon, and your niece got robbed coming home from the movies. She gave up her purse like a smart girl does, and ran back to the theatre. 

Everyone blames the robbery on the full moon, like it was something inevitable and controlled as if by magic.

You can’t do that. You have to blame the robbers.

At least you aren’t William, blaming his daughter. He’s never been robbed and he’ s a man in a man’s world. He’s also built like a linebacker, so no one would try to rob him. He doesn’t get it. The same way he doesn’t get why Hollywood cares that these famous, rich actors in positions of power use who they are to get sex. You are done arguing with him. It’s like you both speak two different languages and can find no cognates, no common ground between you. Your letters are different symbols.

It’s Thanksgiving and you leave before dessert. You leave before dessert and you take his daughter Black Friday shopping. You get her to tell you about it as you stand in line at the Forever 21 for a discount on already cheap stuff. You tell her a lot of things, but you don’t tell her this sale isn’t worth the amount of time you spent in line for the fitting room and again at the checkout counter. But its time spent away from William, so its worth it to you.

When you drop her back off, its late and you watch her get into the front door. You text her to make sure she locked it and she responds duh, I live here, which seems so juvenile to you, though you probably would have sent the same thing. 

You wait a few moments before pulling away, but you aren’t sure what for. Eventually, you go, traversing all the dark streets between you and your bed.

People are not supposed to stay awake this long or drive after staying awake this long. Your bedsheets are cold, and you lie shivering by yourself until you fall asleep. You wake up with a stiff neck. Sleeping in the cold will do that to some people. You take a warm shower to counteract the stiffness and when you’re out, you check your phone.

William has called you, which isn’t surprising, but what’s surprising is that William has called you eight times and left 3 voicemail messages. You listen to one—William is still angry—and then erase them all. You text your niece to make sure he isn’t taking it out on her. And your niece regurgitates something she heard about the full moon.

You laugh as you tell her that people are still just people and they are responsible for what they do and who they are. It sounds lofty and important enough that she buys it. You don’t know how much longer you will be able to con her on things like this with no meaning. But for now, at least, it feels like a victory.
