It wasn’t until Eddie was standing next to a fancy looking hybrid Toyota SUV with Vermont plates that he realized he was, quite possibly, in over his head. 

We don't even have to try, it's always a good time (buddie, one shot, smut)

Eddie was just minding his own business doing inventory when the door to the supply closet opened and Buck slipped in, closing the door quickly and quietly behind him.

Eddie wasn’t always the guy in the harness repelling down the side of a cliff and when he was the guy repelling down, Buck was usually right there next to him.

Derek would like it noted that he had been in way worse situations before.

They say hangovers get worse as you get older.

Eddie wishes he could say he had no idea how he had gotten himself into this situation, but that would be a lie.

2023 was a weird year for Buck.

wanna lose my mind in a hotel room with you (buddie, one shot, smut)

Diffuse morning light gently wakes Buck, or at least, he thought it woke him.

gold when you see me (buddie, one shot, hurt!eddie)

They’re on hour four of a search and rescue call - three teens failed to come home after a lunchtime hike - when Eddie falls through the leaf covered ground into what is apparently an old mine shaft.

kiss and make up (buddie, one shot, smut)

Eddie always thought that if he and Buck ever kissed it would be in the heat of the moment, it would be pure relief that they were still alive.

From these I think it's fair to say I like to start my fics with the main character coming to a realization or having a bit of a moment right as the story is kicking off. Also, i love putting these guys in situations.

It's honestly a little surprising, I feel like for a while I started my fics with dialogue and I guess I still see my writing that way.

Loki, his throat tightening slightly, nodded and told him of their last meeting before Loki sacrificed himself. "And as I held your hand in mine and watched you disintegrate in front of my eyes, do you know what I thought, Mobius?" Mobius, his eyes glistening with tears, shook his head, unable to speak. Loki's voice trembled slightly as he replied, "That I loved you like I've never loved anyone before, and that I could never tell you that. But because I loved you so much, I was willing to do what I had to do. That I would carry this burden for you."

i did this a few weeks ago BUT i have more than five fics so here's five more!

i just met you (and this is crazy), M, 19.2k, complete

Sam finds the Winter Soldier ordering an americano in Paris. The rest of the patrons are drinking tiny plain espressos, as whatever God that rules over Europe intended, but Sam can hear the voice he recognizes from old audio tours of the Smithsonian asking for “café Americain” while the barista turns up her nose. Sam watches as he receives his drink and an éclair, walking calmly over to a small empty table and pulling out something that resembles an iPad. “Didn’t know being a fugitive afforded the salary for tech like that,” Sam says, sliding into the chair across from him. 

2. la vie en rose, E, 6.1k, complete

They mostly stay out of the drama, and they’re both more than charming enough to keep Lexie Grace happy, so they both pass through the next three rose ceremonies with flying colors, no doubt at all that either of them would make it through. Sam thinks it might be a little strange that he looks forward to being with Bucky more than Lexie Grace most days, but he chalks it up to the fact that they spend way more time together due to living together and the impersonal nature of group dates. He’s gotten to know Bucky in a way he hasn’t with Lexie Grace yet; he’s sure his feelings will change when they get more solo dates going. When Bucky follows him to an empty bathroom, turns on multiple showers to drown out any noises from the microphone outside the doors, and backs him up against a shower wall, lips brushing against his neck, he thinks he might’ve made a miscalculation.

3. tell him that his lonesome nights are over, E, 1.5k, complete

They’d figured this out a few months before, after entirely too many mornings and nights and three AMs where Bucky would wake up hard and needy, caught between waking Sam up and letting him get some much needed rest. Usually, they’d end up with the worst of both outcomes: Bucky trying and failing to get himself off quietly by rutting into his hand or the mattress, but too keyed up by that point to do it quietly. It would wake Sam up anyway, already too late to join in any of the fun.   They have a long discussion about consent and boundaries after the eighth or so time this happens, ending up with the perfect solution: Bucky fucks Sam without waking him up first.

4. one of those nights, E, 3.8k, complete

There’s a kind of greasy man holding up the bar near Sam’s normal spot, and he’s admittedly not too happy about it. “Come here often?” he asks once he reaches the bar, words flirty but tone irritated.  The man turns around and blinks, giving Sam a full view of his face. He’s entirely clean-shaven, a surprising look considering his just-past-shoulder-length dark hair, and his lips are cherry red, likely from being constantly bitten. His expression is entirely blank, almost unsettlingly so, but when he notices Sam’s discerning look he snaps on a charming smile, his blue eyes brightening. If he’s looking for a partner to bite him tonight, more power to him, but Sam’ll be damned if he does it from his barstool.

5. from ear to ear, E, 7.1k, complete

Sam mindlessly pinches at his ears again, and Bucky only barely keeps himself from banging his own head against the back of the diner booth to physically chase away his thoughts. “Yeah, I usually only push an earring through to keep ‘em from closing up; it was a bitch to get them done the first time and I’d rather not do it again.”  He switches to the left ear, and Bucky thinks he might just melt into the booth. “It’s been awhile since I’ve done that, though. Kinda surprised they haven’t closed up yet.” He tilts his head, a little tic that Bucky has started labeling as “considering,” and then nods whenever he’s apparently made up his mind. “I’ll throw some studs in when we get home tonight, wear ‘em around for a bit. No use keeping them open this long only to let them close up now.” Bucky takes a sip of his beer and, for once, feels grateful that he can’t get drunk. He’s pretty sure he’d say something not so platonic to his very platonic earring-wearing best friend if he was just a little less sober.

pairing: soap x reader (alternatively soap x anyone you want)

Oooooh okay! This is an interesting one!

Soap's got a girl, and be tries not to brag. Tries. And fails. Because he just. He loves her a lot. And it's not easy being away from her so often but they make it work. Thank goodness for texting. He keeps pics of her on his phone, of the two of them.

Something happens. She's injured somehow, or has something happen to her. She tries to contact him once but he's on mission, unable to respond, doesn't even have his phone on him. So he misses the incident entirely.

When he does get back to base and finally gets to check his phone, he panics, just a little. Tries to contact her immediately. When he gets voice-mail he panics a bit more. Gets permission to go home to you.

When he finds you safe at home, he's relieved. But only until he sees the bags under your eyes, the evidence of sleepless nights, the remnants of violence left on your skin. He gets the whole story out of you, bits at a time, until you're curled into his chest trying not to cry.

By that point he's trying not to cry, too. He'd promised to take care of you, and he'd failed. You'd been hurt and he hadn't been here, hadn't even been in the country. And he hates himself for it.

Eventually the two of you talk it through and figure it out, and all ends well. Because I love a happy ending.

Opening Line Patterns

Rena Rouge: Secret Keeper - Ch 4 Chat Noir was earlier than Ladybug. That was hardly unusual. What was unusual was that he was dreading her arrival.

The Untold Story of DJWiFi - Ch 9 Alya’s biggest complaint about being tied up in a giant spider’s web was that she couldn’t film the whole akuma encounter.

Bend the World Around It - Ch 3 They don’t talk about their names and identities. He doesn’t ask and she doesn’t want to talk about it anyway. It’ll just make them both sad.

Not Part of the Plan - Ch 12 She wakes up next to Adrien. He looks as gorgeous as ever and more than anything she wants to throw herself at him and have her way with him.

Celebrity Status - Ch 7 I can’t believe Ladybug dropped someone! 

Miraculous Reveal #15 - Rings True I figured out who Monarch is. He’s Gabriel Agreste. Meet me at the Agreste Mansion.

Right Behind You - Ch 13 Nino adjusted the headphones over his ears, and hit play again, listening to the track he had so far.

Yin and Yang - Ch 5 Adrien’s room was something out of a child’s fantasy.

Spin the Bottle Nathaniel’s family home is not as large or ostentatious as the Agreste family manor, but that only means Adrien feels more at ease.

Aftermath - Ch 5 After their unplanned disaster sleepover, Marinette and Adrien fell strictly back into their routine.

Well, in 6/10 the first line seems to serve to establish where the character is more than anything else. Nothing too fancy about those.

And in 5/10 (with some definite overlap with the previous six) there's something in there to quickly establish the character's mood/mental space.

In 2/10 it's a line of text! I think this is interesting in that it's similar to starting with a line of dialogue, which is very easy for me, but I've mostly trained myself out of that. Mostly! Haha! But apparently I can still find ways to cheat. I'm actually shocked that none of these are an ACTUAL line of dialogue. I'm sure that it will happen again.

I don't usually put a lot of energy into the opening line. I more try to get into a character's head and that often takes more than one line and I usually find the rhythm later. The first line is helpful for getting in that mood though and getting words to flow!

Writers Habit Tag Game!

New Years Ask Game for fic writers

To close out 2023…

1) what fic did you have the most fun writing this year and why? Or, if you can’t decide, what was most fun about writing this year for you?

I think it’s a tie between All but the knot and Little Omega . Both are just that light hearted romp. Plus seeing my former barbarian as a toddler was just too fun.

2) what’s a scene/story that you finished and felt “wow, I really accomplished that, that actually went so well”?

The Legend of Mickey Milkovich :The Love Story of the Gallagher Husbands. It’s a very true and pure love story about loving yourself and loving your person in many stages of change. It’s a tribute to my husband. He does not read a lot of my stuff . This one was a lot for us. I wrote it while he was in surgery. It’s just a tribute to all the trans folks who live their truth.

3) What helped provide the most inspiration for stories, if anything? Was it poetry? A song on repeat? A gorgeous gifset? A walk outside? A book you read that made you want to change everything? Whatever it was! Tell all.

I see Mickey and Ian in a lot of poetry. I favor EECummings both in ‘I carry your heart with me’ and ‘spring omnipotent goddess’.

It’s deep and powerful love. It’s being devoured for love and beauty. They carry each other in different but consuming ways.

4) What is something you want to share about what you’ve written this year? A particular line, a comment that made you feel really good, a scene that was difficult to write — you get to choose! What do you wish someone would ask you about when it comes to what you’ve written?

I am writing “what keeps a man holding so long’ It’s a what if Ian waited, but what if they both got support for various issues. There is angst which is hard for me to write. The scenes of Ian setting boundaries made me cry as I wrote it. I want to go back and fix some grammar. I am proud for going outside my norm . I have them becoming dads in a very unexpected way.

What I wish people would ask? Hmm…I love feedback. All of you are helping me grow as a writer.Ask me anything. I would love to pair up for a story, I am a bit geeky and no nerve to ask.

And to start off 2024…

1) do you have any writing/creation goals for the year? What are they?

I want to continue the @galladrabbles. I checked out @callivich writing prompts and want to use at least 4 this year.

I was raised in a very weird homeschool thing as a kid. I get forensic chemistry but not commas. So I want to slow down and get better at grammar. Thank you @notherenewjersey ! They are a beta for me and I am learning so much. I appreciate the time given to my SBB . My goal is to replicate that care in new works.

Oh and commission more art !

2) is there a fic or idea that you’re really excited to be able to continue to work on in the new year (shout out to my fellow fic writing folks who take forever to finish wips, sometimes it’s nice to be able to continue working on something even if you wish you’d gotten it done! Now you get even MORE time with it!)

I am excited to get to finish ‘ what keeps a man holding so long’ and ‘all but the knot, part two’. I also decided to take two tropes I love and mix them. Irish mobster meets geek Mickey.

3) What’s something new in your writing you want to try/are going to try? A different writing style? Different fandom? Darker works? Fluffier? Longer or shorter?

I am very wordy …see for reference the large series ‘bringing home barbarian’ . I am working on shorts and cannon compliant stories.

4) what’s something you love about your own writing that you will continue to appreciate in the new year?

I love writing and I want to continue making people happy.

3. What fandoms do you write for?

Mainly Untamed/MDZS, KinnPorsche now.  I have written in a variety of other fandoms (Sleuth of the Ming Dynasty, Jane Austen’s Emma, Torchwood, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Game of Thrones) but mostly just Untamed and KPTS now.

4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?

Talk to Him - A KPTS fic where Tay goes to visit Big in the hospital and the nurses think they are dating so Tay just plays along.

Common People - Another KPTS fic. This one Tay starts having a fling with Jom. I sort of based it on the song "Common People" by Pulp.

Never Have I Ever - KPTS - It's so funny to me that this is so high because it is a short little one shot that I wrote in one sitting. Basically, Tankhun press gangs some of his friends into playing the drinking game Never Have I Ever.

I'm Ready to Suffer, I'm Ready to Hope - The first KPTS fic I ever wrote. It's a Big/Chan fix it.

Give Me One Good Movie Kiss and I'll be Alright - KPTS again - Big/Chan post canon getting together.

5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?

DEFINITELY. I am here for the community and all the friends I have made in fandom have been through commenting on their fics or them commenting on my fics. This seems even more important now that twitter is well what twitter is these days.

6. What is a fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

Hmmm I am a happy ending type of gal but I guess The Loves of Ianto Jones (Torchwood) ends with a bit of angst. I always meant to write a sequel, I started writing it, but then I kind of left the Torchwood fandom.

7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

I guess like they all have happy endings but I think maybe When A Young Cultivator is Happiest (Untamed) because that was meant to be the last fic in my Wen Ning/ Ouyang Zizhen series (I wrote a little post script for Wen Ning's birthday this year) so it wraps everything up and ends with three pairs of characters getting married.

8. Do you get hate on fics?

I have gotten some hate on my Game of Thrones fics and once on a ZhuLiuHai rpf but generally I am not at all popular enough to get hate - thank goodness!!

9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?

Lol like okay I think that I write incredibly sentimental stories about really nice people who are super shy but find each other. And then once they do they bang the shit out of each other in an incredibly graphic sex scene that in no way fits with the rest of tone of the fic.

10. Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written?

I love crossovers! I don't know that I've written any crazy ones. So I will link to my favourite all time crossover the These Rainy Hearts series in which John Hart from Torchwood randomly meets Ethan Rayne from Buffy and after Ethan mistakes John for Spike, they hook up and fall in love. The subsequent fics brought in more Buffy and Torchwood characters and the last fic even included cameos from characters from What We Do in the Shadows. I don't really write Torchwood any more but I have thought of writing a fourth in this series which would include both Untamed and KPTS characters.

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?

Not that I know of?

12. Have you ever had a fic translated?

No.

13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?

YES! Tragically my friend Serpens Caput on AO3 doesn't write fic anymore so we can't continue our ridiculous jokey RPF series The Untaming of the Crew - about the poor put-upon crew on the set of the Untamed.

14. What's your all-time favorite ship?

I have a lot of love for Tay/Big (KPTS) but the ship that I always come back to is my beloved Wen Ning/Ouyang Zizhen.

15. What's a wip you want to finish, but doubt you ever will?

I started a sequel to my Untamed fic I"ve Been to Koi Tower, But I've Never Been to Me and it just got so unwieldy and had so many characters and so much plot that I just gave up. I want to finish it but I doubt I will. It was going to be called "Don't Cry for Me Jinlintai".

16. What are your writing strengths?

This is so hard for me to answer. I guess I am occasionally funny?

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

So many - writing description of scenery. Having my characters do anything but just stand there whilst talking. Inability to use a comma properly. Writing smut.

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?

I am only fluent in one language. But I have written in the description that the character says something in English (when the rest of the dialogue is assumed to be in Thai) which comes up any time I have written Vegas or Ken for KPTS since they often throw in English words.

19. First fandom you wrote for?

I don't know if this counts because I have never posted it anywhere but I saw the trailer for the film The Eagle and wrote this whole fic in my head without ever seeing the movie. I eventually wrote it down on paper. I did eventually also see the movie and I mean I was way off but whatever. But I guess the first fandom I wrote for that I posted was Game of Thrones.

20. Favorite fic you've written?

AAAA!! That's so hard to pick!!! I generally like most of my fics. I can't pick one. So here's 3:

From Torchwood - From Out of the Pain - A fix it involving film archiving.

i don't feel like i have a great answer for this one but i'm gonna say save a horse (ride a cowboy) bc if you can't handle me at my mechanical bull sex with copious country music reference fic then you don't deserve me at my princess diaries 2 au

my longest fic is the princess diaries au and i feel like it's only right to choose you @livingincolorsagain given you've been such a cheerleader for it since the very beginning <3

my three most kudosed fics are apparently some invisible string tying you to me, (what is love) baby don't hurt me, and i wanna hear it loud (this last one surprises me). the first one obviously smells like cherry pie and beignets, the second one smells like a lightly sterile government facility, and the last one smells like cheap beer, pizza, and sex. i'm not sure i'd want a candle of all three combined, but i'd take a candle of the first one i think

21. If you were starving and had to feast on one of your fics to survive, which fic would it be?

Okay I am kind of in love with this now omg

Okay. So. Price x reader, Work Song.

Price never told the boys he has a wife. He doesn't wear a ring. He keeps the knowledge of her to himself. Because he's scared of what would happen if his enemies learned about her.

But she is the reason he fights so hard to get home every time, to come back from every mission.

There's one mission that's closer than it should be. Everything goes to shit. Bad intel, more enemies than anticipated, not enough ammo. Soap takes a couple rounds to the vest, Gaz gets shoved out a window, Ghost wrenches something keeping Gaz from falling.

But Price gets shot in the leg. He felt it, of course, but he didn't realize how bad it was until he passed out on the evac helo.

He woke up in medical and was promptly informed he was lucky to still be alive. He was grumpy the entire time he was stuck recovering, though the boys chalked it up to lack of cigars and general grumpiness.

In truth, Price was raring to get back home. To you.

So he checked himself out sooner than medically advisable and drove home.

You were in the kitchen when he got home, singing to yourself as you cooked. Totally unaware that he was there. Tension he always carried fell away, his shoulders relaxing. He stood there and just watched you until you turned around and spotted him.

"Don't be a creeper," you scolded him though you smiled, walking over to him.

He didn't say a word, just held you tight to his chest. He'd always make his way home to you.

Updates: Weelll, I have been toying with the idea of adding another installment to Fontaine Likes Pretty Things / And You Learned To Like Them Too. That may be the closest thing to a series?

But right now I have 3 main WIPS that I'm working on getting out! Two 'Taine's and a Chester! Two fluff and a half-a-spice! That's not counting the little notes of headcanons that I have lol!

(side note: I've been low-key thinking of tying my Lil'Bit fics all together. I think it has that vibe, y'know?🤔)

I have some ideas for Chester! I don't know, I feel like us not knowing much about him makes it really fun!🤣

(I have so many drafts, it's so bad 😵‍💫)

I have been thinking of writing for a few others characters. You can scroll through my blog and can see who I'm talkin' 'bout in the tags lol. I'm really interested in dabbling deeper into AU's for a few (I'm 'specially lookin' at you, Hiroyuki Sanada, Winston Duke, and Chris Evans🫣)

I definitely want to build up the stamina to make series though, so stay tuned!
