My question is, who's defining these Weirdly Specific Dominant Paradigms? Because my older cousin played AD&D in the early to mid '80's, and my perception of it was 1. I was not allowed to join (I had just learned addition and subtraction) and 2. scandalized whispers about satanism from my classmates (not capitalizing it because that would suggest what they were repeating was sincere).

So even though I could watch someone I looked up to and adored play D&D, what he was doing - as a middleschooler rolling dice in his mom's basement - was not the WSDP, not the popular stereotype.

If the players I hear the most from - theater kids, lgbtq+, people who weren't theater kids but should have been, and people who overlap between groups 1 and 2, and groups 2 and 3 - are the ones to define the next WSDP, then ?? Speaking as someone who should have been in theater but wasn't (parents didn't want to encourage me) and id's as not quite nb... I don't see a lot of consensus as to what our WSDP is. It's like asking what the WSDP of people who watch TV is.

On the other hand -

Assuming the children and grandchildren of the people who started the satanic panic are the ones defining the WSDP, and right now in the USA there's every reason to believe they will, then ttrpg's get thrown in with the current manufactured gay panic. Or maybe worse.

The thing about the popularity of Dungeons & Dragons is that this isn't the first time we've been here. There was a stretch of several years in the 1980s where it was practically mainstream. There was a syndicated Saturday morning cartoon that dominated its timeslot in viewership, merch on every shelf, and D&D manuals were hot Christmas items that could be purchased in regular bookstores. (It also sparked a nationwide moral panic in the US, but that's a whole other thing!)

When D&D subsequently fell off a cliff due to gross mismanagement, it nearly took the the entire tabletop roleplaying hobby with it, and probably would have if games about sexy vampires hadn't stepped in to fill the void. The transformation was so rapid and complete that by the mid 1990s, the popular stereotype of the roleplayer had shifted from a bunch of highschoolers rolling dice in the GM's mom's basement to a bunch of oddly dressed weirdos hanging around shopping mall food courts pretending they were in Interview With the Vampire.

And that's the thing I wonder about. If or when D&D trips over its own dick again, unless it manages to tank the entire hobby this time around it's almost certainly not going to result in the flowering of diversity in game design that many folks in the indie sphere are hoping for; more likely, we'll simply shift from one weirdly specific dominant paradigm of What Tabletop Roeplaying Is to another, equally weirdly specific dominant paradigm. What's it going to be next time?

hey its been long since i last talk about my life here. Lots of things happened for the past months. I shall start of with my results for last semester. apparently my results it turn out good?? and didnt expect my gpa to be good. im proud of myself for achieving it. After i got mu results, i receive an email to apply for WSDp which i have been thinking about it lately, i sent out my application and 2 days ago i receive a call from the company i apply for. Never thought i could come this far tho. okay i know i hvt get the job yet but its amazing that i come this far. but calm ill do my research soon maybe later on after school but if i dont get in, i shall good for plan b which is poly? but i feel like im not ready for poly sigh. Insha Allah everything will go smoothly, amin. Secondly. your homie just turned 20:))))))) yup im old hahah okay a year older and wiser hahaha. and also a step close to adulthood. which im definitely looking forward for the future. it was nice for my friends to surprised me at 12 sharpe cutiee. i love every single one of them <3 Im blessed and thankful. i got to know that k has agf all this while im like bishh what!!! i got passed that hahah ill accept it and suck it up. some things still bothers me idky. i still care andd love you idky u came back. or mayb im the one that force things to happen. maybe its me planning and wanting u back in my life. idky eventho u hurt me so much i still let u in my life back. i thought i was strong enough to go thru all of this alone but maybe im wrong. i dont understand myself i hate u so much.

okay about my comic

I've finally made it to the double digits in terms of how many pages I've drawn and tbh I'm still getting out pages at a snail's pace imo

now only ten isn't a lot but I'm halfway tempted to post what I have so far for whatever reason; probably impatience. I think it might be a better idea to wait until I have the first chapter done and post that in bulk when it's ready. and then I'll figure out my posting schedule from there

my two current ideas are a page every week or every two weeks, or a whole chapter every month or two months. again I draw slow as shit for whatever reason so I don't know.

all that being said if I were to post the first ten pages somewhere (don't know where now since tapastic has taken the piss) would anyone like to see it? if no one is interested I'll just keep it to myself for now. also can anyone reccomend somewhere to post the comic? I'm thinking smackjeeves might be okay but idk.
