WTNV quick rundown - 75 - Through The Narrow Place
It’s not the destination. It’s the endless, exhausting journey. Welcome to Night Vale.
This episode is about the Annual Marathon Through The Narrow Place. It's a 'family friendly charity race', a 26 mile or so course along the Crooked Path, down into the Deepening, and, ultimately, Through the Narrow Place. All the town is forced to take part by the terrifying Harbingers of the Distant Prince (who have beaks and stomach eyes), and all participants will be devoured by the Narrow Place. Cecil is really nonchalant about it being the end of everyone and seems to think it's fun.
Cecil and Carlos are also taking part, in matching lycra shorts. Carlos is wearing a 'running labcoat' and Cecil is allowed to bring his mobile broadcasting equipment.
They are all forced to run. They go through and on to the other side except there is no other side. They send messages in morse code to the people they once had been, asking for help, but they could not help due to being outside of the Narrow Place. The Distant Prince was pleased. He gathered his Harbingers to him for the celebration. They cooed and merged in and out with each other, taking startling forms.  NV citizens wore black coats and had never existed. The Distant Prince wore a golden coat and had always existed. "All darkness is just a thickness of birds. There is rustling in every shadow. Every surface is alive. We wore black coats and we went through it. We went Through the Narrow Place."
The race board president is Susan Willman, whose mouth is described as black and featureless inside.
Weather: "Black Eyes" by David Wirsig http://davidwirsig.bandcamp.com
The hostile take over of Strex, laying off of all people in DB and using of all Strex funds to create opera in NV results in yet more cuts in DB including removing sanitation services. The people in DB are suffering more and more and no appeals for help are working.
Cecil assumes that everyone wants to hear more about Khoshekh. Khoshekh has 'entered the time of his life where his skull is completely visible'. The kittens are also doing well. Cecil's fave kitten is Mixtape, whose anterior spines are coming in. Cecil has to dress up in protective gear and take anti-toxins just to interact with the cats.
Cecil does an 'agony aunt' still advice section called 'hey there Cecil'. He answers three questions from anon people, although one is very clearly Diane Crayton.
Stay tuned next for a different you, and a different you, and a different you again, each you denying their multiple nature. And from the Narrow Place, where we wear black coats, and have never existed, Good night, Night Vale. Good night.

There's a very awful high-pitched noise in the last couple minutes of WTNV ep.75 and it feels like a betrayal because I can't physically make myself listen to the rest of it.

I got to the ep "Through the Narrow Place" in Welcome to Night Vale.  And when Cecil said him and Carlos were running the marathon in "matching lycra shorts" I knew what I had to do.

Since you’ve already covered a lot of other podcasts, a ranking of the Within the Wires seasons?
WITHIN THE WIRES MY BELOVED!!!
in case you haven’t listened to within the wires, PLEASE do. It’s one of the best things being made right now and has tragically little traction on tumblr. It’s written by jeffrey cranor of wtnv fame and janina matthewson, and is an anthology show where each season features found audio from an alternate history. It’s very well done and is one of the best examples of worldbuilding-via-immersion i’ve encountered yet. the sound design is fantastic, i love all the voice actors, and there is not a single man except for one trans guy. it’s a bit meandering but in a way i like- the writers very clearly have an end point in mind but the way there involves a lot of dreamy and/or philosophical monologuing. It is by turns atmospheric, captivating, heartbreaking… great stuff.
ANYWAYS all this is to say that i have a very difficult time ranking the seasons lol. Here’s my best attempt, but keep in mind that every season of this show is better than like 75% of podcasts.
1. Season 2
OBVIOUSLY season 2 is the best one. you find out about these two women’s relationship via one of them narrating audio guides for exhibits of the other’s work, which involves description of said art, discussions of art, and emotional tangents about their relationship that grow increasingly unhinged.
2. Season 1
Season 1 is a but harder to get into but i really like it. i love janina matthewson’s voice and i think it does a great job of introducing us to the world, plus there’s this one monologue about art that i think about a lot.
3. Season 4
this is where the ranking starts getting really difficult for me. I’ve put season 4 as third because something about the last episode is just so….sublime, for me. Also, this season really highlights a crucial aspect of within the wires, which is that quite frequently the narrators are just like. insane. but i can’t say more without massive spoilers!
4. Season 3
Season 3 is probably the most conventional one so far. Pretty straightforward narration of events, with lots of fun political drama.
5. Season 5
This season just didn’t hit me as much as the others! probably at least in part because it has a more experimental structure so i didnt fully understand what was going on until my second listen. That being said, even thinking about the last ep very much does make me emotional lol.
***UNRANKED*** season 6 and the novel are unranked because i haven’t yet listened to/read them yet! I am very excited for both though, the novel especially since the conceit is that it’s an autobiography annotated by a scholar.

Honestly, finding out the drama going on with Kyle is wild to me, because I just haven’t engaged with cast/crew of a podcast since the WTNV heyday, which also coincided with my homestuck era AND my Supernatural era. The story will always mean a lot to me, but man. Y’all were living like this??? I just... gave up on writers so long ago...
Hahahaha, yep. I’ve been listening to KFAM since like late 2016/early 2017 and have a lot of good memories of walking and listening to that. If that wasn’t enough, I think since I posted about KFAM a lot, I got to see the creators reblog shit and even follow me. That sorted of fueled further interactions and welp, here we are. Like seriously, I have a memory of talking with Kyle on discord about writing ep 75 and it was a positive experience (wild, right?).
Plus, there was the whole depression arc Sammy went through while I was depressed and so I latched onto Sammy for dear life.
I knew KFAM was problematic as fuck, but I really loved the story and it was one of my first podcasts that made me fall in love.
