Part 1.

-- Please tell us how do you feel about the work you've done, now that the anime has ended?

M: I felt that this one month passed so quickly. We had an art setting designer, Tamura Seiki-san, on the team, who worked before with Yamamoto Director on her other project. During the pre-production stage, he prepared the foundation, on which we could construct everything. I joined the team, after that foundation has already been partly there. But the pre-production, so the stage when you have to do a lot of research is the most fun. After the actual production had started, you have to do everything on schedule, but pre-production is the time, when you can get really excited, like: "I want to try to do this and this". But nowadays, I usually work on many projects at once, so I can't just take my time with preparations, as I used to do in the past.

-- You've joined the project in the middle [of pre-production], so I suppose the direction has already been decided to some degree?

M: Yes, and my team was following this direction. Normally, the role of the art director is to take part in the project from the scenario-writing stage and prepare image boards to create the world of the story - based on that more detailed art settings are created. This time, all of that was done by Tamura-san.

[Notes: I really need to finally make a nice list of all these translations, because I'm starting to lose track of what I have already translated and what not 😂 Unfortunately, right now I'm too busy with uni work do that rn😔... But in the near future!

A piece of fandom history - very interesting thing about this magazine (published 2017/02) is that it contains a huge Yurio-centric article for 5 full pages, just about Yurio. Often, not even a whole show gets so many pages. This was one of the things, that made some parts of the fandom very angry, very early on (because Yuuri, the main character, never had this kind of feature about him only), and kind of made people start to notice that: "oh, they started to really promote Yurio, huh? Will the next season be about him...?". This was even before Mitsurou's biggest crime, her Welcome to the Madness manga, in addition to the Yuuri-less bonus to the last DVD.

((Just to be clear, I'm personally absolutely neutral - I like both Yurio and Yuuri&Victor together, and them separately, wouldn't mind second season about Yurio, don't mind that WttM was about Yurio etc. I simply find the history of YoI fascinating and I do think that from a perspective, it's kind of clear that the IP holders were trying to correct the direction this show went, but this attempt failed (almost empty screenings in 2019 etc.), and as a consequence, they've never made more YoI.))]

Do you think Eichi is more severe with the idol/idol people or with the people who write the enstars equivalent of BTS imagines

Idol/idol. X reader imagines can have redeeming qualities (He Is The Reader. But i think he'd get annoyed in a "wataru wouldnt fucking say that" way and he'd lose interest in the genre) but idol/idol rpf? He'd be taking down wttm shipper ao3 accounts left and right. And calm himself down by thinking up new ways to torture tomoya. This might as well already be part of why he hates tomoya and we just dont know yet. And it's not like eichi can go discuss what to do about the wttm fic writers to wataru, thatd be too embarassing, so how is he letting out his frustrations? Poor keito man, i know he's had to hear so much whining on the subject. In my head he was also mutuals with one of the wttm writers on priv and he's so incredibly done with this situation. ice adolescence kinda makes me think of when i would work on an assignment desperately trying to finish in time and then 12:00 hits and its like, ok its already overdue so ill spend all of tomorrow working on it, then tomorrow comes and iv left it too late again its 12:00 again and the cycle keeps going, and every day theres a late penalty added and it gets to a point where it cant be handed in as it originally wouldve been bc it has to be perfect just to even pass and then i have a meltdown over it and dont hand in anything at all. Point being, yea i definitely think theres a burnout/personal conflict/ohshitweleftthissolatenowitneedstobeperfect issue going on.

but like...handing in a bad assignment is still better than handing in nothing at all. And a ice adolescence thats not perfect (but still lovingly created) would still be amazing. Yuri on ice wasnt perfect, there wasn't enough time for all the characters and for the emotional moments to rest before zooming to the next scene. but we adored it anyway bc it there was so much love and care involved. i get they realise now that this movie will probably be the send off and naturally they dont want to sour the series with a bad/mediocre movie but cmon now, i was in highschool when it came out and ive since finished uni and work full time, weve all grown up and the characters are remaining static in 2016 on hold.

I use to want a season 2 but now i dont think i do, i cant even think of a plot that wouldnt either be a rehash of s1 or just breaking up yuri/victor for the sake of conflict. A prequel is a good, safe option. We really dont know that much about Victors life, theres so much to work with! And they could even have little cuts to present day, that could just be sweet and domestic bc they wouldnt have to worry about coming up with drama to fill a season with. Its a great option, now all they have to do is make and release the damn thing lmao. sorry for the long rant, this show just hurts my heart so bad, i cant believe its making me feel nostalgic for 2016 of years.

I agree with you. Heavy on the season 2 storyline being difficult to come up with. I would even think that a hypothetical S2 could only be made yurio-centric in order to avoid rehashing S1 plot points. Yuri on ice really wraps up nicely, the only thing it's missing is we really don't know much about Victor.

I actually like that he's the major character because fr, boy needs more love.

I like his "suffering artist" persona there too. It kunda fits him. I also headcanoned that he is into arts, but in my case it was graffiti :)

I'm not sure about Scarlett (and Gordie) going to the same school tho. I like the idea of Scarlett appearance being an "event" of sorts or something special y'know? Them being classmates kinda takes away that part of her. (Also Scarlett could've appeared again in cartoon according to Sandro Corsaro and GRRRRRR WHY WHY WHY WE DIDN'T GET SEASON 3, WHY MY GIRL GOT ONLY 1 EPISODE AAAAAAAA)

Additionally, Gordie is from west side of Mellowbrook. I understand why he was in the same school in WTTM but eh, I really don't like them being classmates. (I mean hey, Gordie and Scarlett are actually Brad's age, they would've been in college when Kick's peers were in high-school)

2022 Fanfic In Review

Since I did the whole Fanfic Review thing, I'm just going to do one of those year-end questionnaires I usually fill out.

1. List of fics completed this year

2. Number of words written: 62,797 which is a bit disappointing since I had like a 100,000 more words last year, but, eh, if you include WIPs and the zine fic that hasn't been posted yet, the number would be bigger.

3. Your most popular fic: I'd say it might as well be a tie between "Welcome To The Family" (100 kudos) and "In The Closet" (99 kudos), but WTTM has six comments to ITC's three, so I guess "Welcome To The Family" is technically the most popular.

4. Your personal fav: "The Baby Question", if I have to choose.

5. Your fav scene: Probably the part in "The Baby Question" when Yuuri and Viktor have just decided to have a baby and are making out on the couch. I just love the little exchange they have where Yuuri reminds Viktor that he can't actually get him pregnant, and Viktor's like, "Don't ruin things with your science and logic!" I'm also rather fond of the dinner scene between Otabek, Yuri, and their toddler son, Lev, in "Never Too Old".

6. A fic or scene that challenged you: Oh, the first version of "Adding Some Spice" was definitely a challenge! I wrote it for the SM Quickies event, and 1,000 words is simply not enough to write an engaging threesome. I did get a chance to expand it later for Sailor Moon Smutember, though, which helped. Also, "A New Home" was the first time I wrote a fic in first person in at least a decade, so I was definitely out of practice!

7. A line of writing you’re proud of: Well, this is more a passage than a line, but this is the part I was talking about in Question #5.

One kiss, of course, inevitably turned into two, then three. By the fourth, Yuuri had fallen on his back against the seat cushions, Viktor's lips journeying down his neck while his warm hands found their way underneath Yuuri's sweatshirt.

"Vitya…what are…you…doing?" Yuuri asked in between increasingly feverish kisses. "I thought…you were…tired?"

"Got a…second wind." Breathing heavily, Viktor propped himself up and grinned mischievously as he looked down at Yuuri beneath him. "Besides, if we're going to have a baby, there's no better time than the present to start trying, right?"

Yuuri laughed. "Didn't we go over this earlier? You can't get me pregnant!"

"Yuuuuuri!" He collapsed on top of Yuuri, burying his face in Yuuri's sweatshirt. "Don't spoil the fun with your science and logic!"

8. A comment that touched you: All of them! (Well, except for the one that called me "manga-toxic" for writing Reinako, and a couple of other troll-y FF.net reviews.)

9. Something that inspired your writing: @soulfulweaver's beautiful Mamotoki fanart was the inspiration behind "Pinkie Promise".

11. Your proudest accomplishment (that one scene; finally finishing that one fic; posting your first fic; etc): Definitely hosting Sailor Moon Rare Pair Week! It was more successful than I dreamed it would be.

12. Do you have any writing goals for next year?: I'd really like to at least start posting the pre-canon JJBek fic I've been working on for the past couple of years. Also, just write more in general, I guess?

Ah Yuri Plisetsky… Yurio... my son… my boy… lets see, shall we…

1. My first impression of them

I knew about Yurio long before I even started watching YOI because I had fallen down the pipeline of “gnc long-haired blond anime characters with bangs” which started with Howl and, more importantly, Mello. And if I associate you with Mello you win.

As for when I actually started the show, (thx grace) once I saw the scene where Yurio is yelling at Yuuri in the bathroom early in ep 1, I knew he would be an interesting character. Once he was running from the Yuuri-on-a-hug-rampage later that’s the exact moment I knew this lil ball of anger needed to be protected at all costs.

2. When I think I truly started to like them

Because of the previous answer, lets just say I knew I was gonna like him right from the get go.

3. A song that reminds me of them

I have a couple for this but don’t read into them because BOTH were song recs from an AMAZING Otayuri fic I read half a year ago. Aynalayin is my fav of the two.

8. Your favorite outfit of them

WTTM – the classic, hands down, no questions asked

10. Describe the character in one sentence

A tiny but powerful blond skating prodigy that works himself to the bone all because he wants acknowledgement from his lifelong idol… and because he gets to wear “knife shoes”

23. Future Headcannon

I think Yurio is destined to have a long successful career that surpasses Viktor for sure. I like to think that its an injury that does him in. Only because I do not think Yuri would ever leave the ice willingly. But it happens when he officially becomes the oldest skater to ever win worlds. Oh and he’s the first to land a quad axel in competition… ever.

27. If they could meet a character from another show/movie/etc. who would be the most fun for them to meet?

Hmm…

Ok hear me out… I don’t know if HE would want this, but I really think it would be funny for him to meet Atsushi from Bungo Stray Dogs. A boy who can turn into a TIGER!?! I mean COME ON!!! Also because their personalities are so different I feel like that would be MAD entertaining.
