It's wrong to think of a construct as half bot, half human. It makes it sounds like the halves are discrete (...) As opposed to the reality, which was that I was one whole confused entity, with no idea what I wanted to do. What I should do. What I needed to do.

From the article: The relatively new association with self-forgiveness is largely due to the influence of the teachings of Dr Ihaleakala Hew Len, co-author of the 2007 book Zero Limits, which propagates a type of hoʻoponopono known as ��Self Identity Through Hoʻoponopono’ (SITH). SITH is a self-focused, mental cleansing method based on four mantras: I’m sorry; please forgive me; thank you; and I love you. This method is the definition of hoʻoponopono that is currently most common in alternative healing circles and off-island media. Traditional hoʻoponopono can be a process that takes a day, or in some cases, years. It’s about a sense of community and communal feeling of responsibility towards an issue. In hoʻoponopono, one person’s issue becomes the entire group’s, and together, with consultation of the group’s elders, they find a resolution that is accepted by the whole community. Practiced since as long as Hawaiians can remember, it is necessary on an island where space and resources are limited and the community is key to survival. It was Aunty Malia Craver, a Hawaiian cultural practitioner, who was the first to introduce the concept onto a global stage. In 2000, she made a speech at the 53rd annual DPI/NGO Conference at the United Nations in New York, and spoke about concepts relating to hoʻoponopono. The term, as she told the Honolulu Star-Bulletin before the speech, means “a method to resolve family and personal conflicts and achieve peace”. Since then, the word hoʻoponopono has been taken out of context and exoticised, as the term swells in popularity both in Hawaii and off-island. i can handle one (1) Event™ per day. whether it be a phone call, an appointment, trip to the grocery store, play date with a friend, etc. only one, that's it. any more than that and i am Stressed

the worst part about ocd and ocd-like tendencies is that you think hyper-analyzing your thoughts and constantly psychoanalyzing yourself will fix you but that's actually part of the disorder. it's the disorder. disordering.

a lot of media assumes robots would be immortal but i think its a lot more interesting to explore robots dealing with their parts wearing down and battery life shortening and all the horrible little failings that come with being a complicated machine. sure they can replace parts but you'd assume you cant completely ship of theseus them, or it'd have pretty big rammifications on their sense of identity. idk. give me robots with distinct, unique signs of aging. as a treat.

murderbot trailer moments we have not yet seen

I went through the Official Trailer and Inside Look and tried to find what moments we hadn't seen yet (as of season 1, episode 4). Thought I'd share it here in case anyone else was interested in that type of breakdown. Note: I tried to organise the pulled stills in my best guess at chronological order, mostly informed by how the most recent episode ended, as well as costume continuity. I have read the books so some ordering may be informed by that, but given as the show is an adaptation that includes new plot points, it's all still just a guess. No moments from the books (beyond the portions that are represented in/quoted in the trailer) will be spoiled, so it's hopefully accessible to tv-only folks (who are okay with tv spoilers) too. Murderbot TV spoilers below the cut. CW for blood. Would be curious as to any thoughts / theories / moments I missed!

the new blonde annoys / is interested in / harrasses murderbot?

angel from rent voice: who died? (secondarily: any blood spatter experts around who can explain what would have caused that spray pattern? and the. em. chunks? on gurathin?)

so it seems gurathin may be having a terrible horrible no good very bad day. blood spatter on his clothes, now possibly being examined in medbay? (the scanner next to bharadwaj may be showing a scan of gurathin's knee, couldn't see it well enough to be sure though; in later stills a bandage can be seen above his knee/on his lower thigh).

close ups from what seemed to be this scene in the trailer showed ratthi surprised at the name murderbot, and both murderbot and gurathin having cords attached to their ports. order of events is unclear, but at one point murderbot is closer to and actively connected (to? alongside?) as well as gurathin, also right next to pin-lee, and at another it is a couple of paces away from them both and everyone seems to be on alert

in all the rest of the moments of gurathin shown, he is also leaning on someone or someone is holding on to him. bharadwaj notably has blood spatter on her uniform here, too.

also really appreciate ratthi's line about respecting murderbot's name here (from the trailer).

something jostles the hopper right after this moment (from inside look, which cuts away as soon as they begin reacting).

gurathin now has a bandage on his leg (just above his knee, and he has removed the pantleg on the injured side), has possible bruising around his eyes (may be just shadows though, uncertain), and holds a white cane. the cane comes up to just below his sternum in height (tried to id what type of cane tip it had but... unclear)

Ratthi looks happy, arada and bharadwaj look serious, pin-lee is obscured behind arada, and mensah and gurathin are obscured behind murderbot. there is something on the outer wall of the hopper beside where gurathin and mensah are -- possibly fauna (giant worm?) guts?

this seems to be at the same location as the previous still, but there is not enough detail for me to be sure?

the next couple stills come from scenes on a rocky plateau:

waking up in a corporation medical gown (?) rather than a plain grey one in a setting i don't think we've seen yet (?)

another new interior setting / environment, which appears to be one room in a larger building (is it just me or does it look like the area where the presaux crew walked through before the meeting where they rented mb? may be just me, i haven't done a side by side look yet). does anyone recognise the logo on the doors behind the crew? (looks almost like a compass to me. a ring? a logo for preservation?)

anyway. would love to hear theories, and if there's things i missed feel free to lmk as well!
