xB can admit he was a bit of an idiot, it's obvious that a spellcasters book that says "secret plans" would be cursed. And now he's tied to a book. The wizard(?) told him exactly what the curse entailed, he'd be attached to the book, and he'll like that until the book is destroyed. But he can't talk to anyone like that, and no one can see him, so he will rest like a ghost, forced to watch the buildings fall around him to time.

Somewhere around his 200th year (he's lost track, really it could be anywhere between 200 to 400 years) when that book is found again, brushed off and cleaned, and put on the shelves of a bookshop that was ironically built right on top of where that wizard lived.

The bookstore is odd, with a name and an owner to match. The owner's (Keralis?) sales pitch is always "wanna buy a book?" But with those eyes it's always convincing. xB is there a while, and he's found out a few things, 1. He can move some things, small things like dust and grit, his aiming skills come in handy with shooting small pebbles at rude costumers faces. 2. The book's curse is a one time use kinda thing, seems like anyone else can read it without being tortured with eternal boredom. And three, Keralis has a boyfriend. Initially he was slightly jealous, which is stupid because he cannot even talk to someone and he's fallen for them already, but that boyfriend (Shashwam? Shashwamy?) is so gentle with his book, he keeps it in good condition too, if he wasnt basically a ghost he'd take them both to bed in an instant.

Further along xB's figured out some more things, both Keralis and Xisuma (he's pretty sure that's correct) are both immortal creatures, Xisuma being of the void and Keralis being, something. But that comes with complications, some people just dont like that they exist.

And so the bookstore is burnt down, and so is his book, he comes back to the loving world that night with searing flesh, everything's too bright and too loud and he can feel hands on him dragging him out and now he feels as if he's actually dead and everything hurts

He finds it woefully ironic that Xisuma took such careful care of the book, when destroying it breaks the curse. He has plenty of time to complain about that as he's lying in a hospital bed (which, certainly changed a lot since he was last in one, gotta say.) Not that it's Xisuma's fault, no, the guy's an absolute sweetheart for looking after it so carefully. But it is ironic.

Xisuma and Keralis are both fretting over him, despite him being a total stranger. At first, they thought he might have been a customer hiding out, or somebody that broke in. Keralis gave him a very serious talk about whether he started the fire (xB had never considered if he could start fires. Given the right circumstances, he thinks it's possible. He doesn't mention that to Keralis.)

Once it's revealed that he's 'the bookshop ghost' (as some of the customers had taken to calling him), they're even more concerned. Neither are unfamiliar with magic, but they never even realised! Xisuma is more furious than xB's ever seen him before when he learns of the curse. He spends several minutes ranting about how horrendous it is to curse a book for simply looking in it, not even trying to steal it! He's firmly of the opinion the wizard was on a power trip. xB is glad to have somebody on his side!

Keralis buys xB several sets of clothes, and they offer him a place to stay since, well... Hundreds of years in a book. xB gratefully accepts, forgetting his crush on them both. It takes a while for it to hit him - between existential dread, trying to cope with all the world's changes, and helping Xisuma and Keralis move into a new house. But when it does it's... Hard. Seeing them in love and remembering he has no part of that.

He continues to help out, determined to prove his worth. He's getting steadier on his feet by the day and he knows he'll have to move out eventually. But, the longer he can be useful, the longer he hopes they'll let him stay. Sure, he might sometimes forget he can interact with physical objects or talk to people now. But that's part of his charm!

It doesn't stop him being surprised when they ask him to stay, though. Nor when they ask if he'd like to join their relationship, several months later. Maybe getting cursed has its benefits after all.
