Xiao and Hu Tao relationship dynamic ideas for Genshin Impact (platonic)

I'm writing a fic, either their first meeting or them just vibing I don't know yet. But I'll take thoughts on their relationships or ideas you wanna see on Ao3!

I just think their dynamic is sweet!

I'm including my current thoughts under the readmore. I didn't include anything with spoilers so it's safe. I'm caught up with the quests so send me anything I'm cool 💕

He entered one of her dreams and they went on a whirlwind adventure

Hu Tao shows him the crystalflies and they make hair clips that Xiao becomes obsessed with

She jokes about death and funerals and this humor rings close to a war vet so they make a lot of jokes together. Former general alatus has a support team

She's childish and lively even though she has seen dark stuff. Admirable.

Hu tao isn't afraid to toddle right over to him and poke him on the cheek but she's so professional towards him and addresses him properly. This confuses him and she just giggles and he cant help but smirk because she's bizarre but so kind

She brings out his inner child

They play in the mud. I just feel like Xiao enjoys it and Hu Tao would 100% roll with it

Hu tau makes ghosts jokes. Xiao knows a lot of ghosts. It works.

They've encountered people claiming all kinds of stuff about spirits and they've had to deal with the idiots together

Hu tau isn't afraid to hug goodbye. Xiao doesn't let a lot of people that close but he is terrible at saying no to the child

Xiao had forgotten that a 20 year old is not a child. He needs to interact with more people. Hu Tao is unbothered because it's fun to be doted on and the ancient little man is so strange and sad she can't help but make him part of her odd little family.

Hu tau sends him mail. She wants to know how he wants his funeral because he is always working. He finds it endearing. It's the only mail he gets

She sings her little hillichurl song and Xiao is amused by music bc that's his calm button

Hu tao admires him like a child meeting a story book hero and its not feared reverence but childish curiosity and awe. But unlike actual children she behaves like a grown up and is respectful . Mostly .

She has her hat and he has his mask and she likes to pretend it's their superhero masks like comic books. He doesn't understand this at all. She finds it hilarious. Her laughter is contagious

She sends him her poetry. He is an appreciative audience. Like a grumpy old man with a soft spot for his grandchild

Hu tao asks Xiao for relationship advice and he has no clue why but she loves his bs answers. He thinks she's dumb until she escalates the joke. He is so confused but is enjoying partaking in fun

She loves star gazing with him because he knows constellations.

Sometimes he helps her gather wood for coffins. Pole arm buddies

She calls his fangs little teefies and no one else has the audacity. He's amused greatly.

She gives him an excuse to chase after cool birds and he appreciates that she let's him hide his childishness behind her

Healing their inner child together.

They climb tall things together. And look down. Xiao loves forcing her to a hight that freaks her out and teleports her down. He likes being the strong protector and Hu Tao loves the adventure without being afraid

She delivers things to ganyu anonymously for him. Can't look too much like he cares

She finds him soft animals to pet

She brings him cool skulls. Cleaned. Ofc.

She plays pranks and tries to scare him. He thinks her attempts are funny. It's also how she knows something is seriously wrong bc when he gets spooked he needs help

They both value history. Xiao knows the sad dark reality, Hu Tao is fascinated by odd things, like old technology and means of living. They discuss anyway

She gives him space when he feels a lot of carma but doesn't actually run away. Just so he isn't worried.

She promises that the funeral parlor will cover a room at the hotel if he needs, but it's not necessary as they wouldn't charge him. Just to ease his anxiety.

She tells him about curre t books and convinces him to read. He never takes time off so she starts reading to him as he fights. He thinks it's hilarious and adorable of the smol child.

Favorite friendships/platonic dynamics in Genshin

In no particular order—

Yae Miko and Gorou:

it is SO funny—the lengths that Gorou will go just to not be teased is incredible. They share such a strong sibling/sis-in-law or bro-in-law dynamic. The relentless teasing, the instant familiarity with each other, the connection they have through Kokomi—

Ty Hoyoverse for making it a recurring joke, can’t wait for more.

Kaeya and Diluc:

I cannot stop laughing at the memes made about these two and their endless rivalry with each other. Sad backstory aside, they’re such interesting characters individually that putting them together only enhances that initial allure. Plus, you can write angst, you can write humor, you can just write wholesomeness around them—they have so much history and flexibility that it will always be attractive to pair them up together!

Plus, I love the “I pretend I don’t care but I actually really, really care” whole vibe they got going on. A classic dynamic, and a favorite!

Xiao and Hu Tao:

He thinks she’s funny. He THINKS she’s FUNNY. Oh my god, can you imagine Xiao hiding his smirk behind a hand while he tries to scowl? Or do you think he doesn’t hide a smile at all? How often do they hang out? How did they meet? (Also, does this not give hope for xiaoven shippers with eccentric Hu Tao and somewhat eccentric Venti!!) Does Zhongli just sigh every time he sees that his yaksha guard is amused by the antics of Hu Tao? What a lovely dynamic—yes give me their friendship.

Zhongli and Xiao:

Of course I must include them!! Idk if I see Zhongli as quite a “father” figure, but I do see him as a mentor in a way to Xiao. And it is so lovely to see the deep respect and care both have for each other. How can you not love the god and protector dynamic??

Yae Miko and Venti:

they would be SO funny, and an absolute chore for Ei. Plus, drinking buddies—mayhaps. I also feel that, judging from how intuitive they seem, they would use that on each other to understand each’s hidden sides, and that lets them just be honest in the other’s presence, or, rather, sit in silence with a quiet understanding of “I get you.”

Lots of potential material here for them. Please give me canon interaction to go wild with.

Sucrose and Albedo:

Can you just imagine how patient Albedo is when Sucrose stutters, makes a mistake, or wants to ramble about something? He’s just so patient and kind. I love that Sucrose found a comfortable spot as an assistant under him. And maybe this dynamic hits close to home for me, but I just love the gentleness surrounding these two and their dynamic.

Aether and Lumine:

It is SO easy to forget their devotion to each other in this game, at least for me, even though we’re reminded like constantly, but to understand the lengths and connection these two have for each other… like siblings is another kind of ride or die, but these two genuinely seem to get along and want to stay close to each other throughout their lives.

So often the sibling leaves to go on with their life, but these two were already traveling together! They wanted to explore together, they wanted to have each other’s backs for a while longer, and one of them is in so much pain from this separation.

In a way, you could almost compare it to one sibling moving on while the other feels the loss from their lack of connection to that sibling now, but it’s a natural part of growing up. Now bring in all the lore and it gets very different from this anecdote about growing apart from your sibling, but the devotion and protectiveness is still there, strong as ever, all throughout the game.

I want old memories of these two, I want flash backs, I want more interactions—do they tease each other? Do they have a funny nickname for the other? Do they feel insecure about anything with each other? What’s their plan after all this is over?

Family is so important, and these two really made a home with each other.

The Archons:

All the headcanons, the ideas, the speculation on how their relationship would work based on voice lines, etc. It just makes me have so much hope for their future interactions (pls happen soon). I really hope they’re not just tolerant of each other, or worse—indifferent. I want old pals, sibling-like banter, and deep-rooted history that gives them a certain level of trust or soft spot for each other. Maybe even a protective streak! (!!!!!!!!!)

Or, on the complete opposite end of the spectrum, I want heartbreak. I want distrust, manipulation, bloody battles, complete and utter destruction with certain interactions.

And then I want healing.

I just think he’s adorable when he sneezes.

Itto meets Furina

A new Dainsleif chapter where he recounts a story about your twin, during which you play as the abyss twin and have to do the entire aranara quest again (real talk though, a Dainsleif quest where you play as the abyss twin would be so cool)

Follow up event to the TCG event from 3.7, in which Timmy becomes the grand champion of Teyvat and we have to escort him around to the different nations

I want the most random duo of characters to meet. Give me a Kaveh and Gorou friendship arc

We take Qiqi to Fontaine to see a magic show

Desert questing with Jeht part 3 except it leads us to Natlan and there’s no underground component. We just walk in a straight line while Jeht talks to us and occasionally we fight things

A quest where Tighnari, Sucrose, Diona, Gorou, and Lynette meet and we try to figure out why the heck they are part animal

So the funniest thing about "Venti" and "Zhongli" meeting was how Zhongli kept trying to praise and give recognition to Venti for his wit or his work, but Venti brushed it off and gave backhanded compliments. Venti continuously talks about how he clearly doesn't know Zhongli or anything about him, so his comments about the man are based in rumors alone.

But also, he's totally aware of all he is stirring up, and his poem clearly reflects that.

It stresses both Xiao and the Traveler out because neither God is saying quite what they really mean and all the subtext between their conversation is lost on them. Xiao comments that when the adepti would meet in the past, there was no question what anyone meant, but tonight he was struggling and it was disheartening to him.

I think Zhongli was trying to express that he didn't know how to talk to or face Barbatos, as he did by "ignoring the sound of the wind," and claiming that "it was difficult to tell where anyone was during Lantern Rite", but he kept calling Venti "new friend," and "esteemed bard", and most tellingly, amiable.

Friendly.

Venti does not acknowledge the title of being a new friend, and to further distance himself, calls Zhongli by "Mr. Zhongli," implying a formal distance!! All the while denying any knowledge or connection that they might have had before.

He then easily interacts with Hu Tao, and befriends her instantaneously!! He talks about meeting with Xiao and playing for him, talking with him on an extremely casual and easy way. Which is notable bc of Xiao's solitary. He even talks about being acquainted with Xingqiu, and how they grew close at a festival over shared love for literature.

And then, most obvious of all, Zhongli was going to listen to Hu Tao's desire to accompany Traveler, Xiao, and Venti home but Venti immediately refused Mr. ZHONGI and said he was going to meet a FRIEND. But if the Traveler wants to come find him, he's quite sure they know where he will be. And Venti leaves them.

Isn't that just a slap in the face? That was such a clear dismissal of Zhongli and it was brutal. Zhongli then says neither Traveler or Xiao needs his protection, and he will be walking alone before meeting with the director again.

I don't think this was the interaction anyone was really quite expecting with these two, and I also don't think this was Venti telling Zhongli that he wanted nothing to do with his friendship. I think Venti is a little shit who is rightfully upset with an old friend, and he wants Zhongli to acknowledge that by killing Morax, Barbatos has no ties to Zhongli.

Where they will be going forward? Who's to say?

I’ve been playing GENSHIN IMPACT for over a year now and reading a bit of fic here and there, mostly of the Tartali and Zhongli&Venti variety, but then Sumeru hit and oh hey Alhaitham is an amazing unit in a quickbloom team and then Kaveh hurricaned his way into my heart and oh no suddenly I was in love and absolutely tearing my way through every bit of Haikaveh I could get my hands on because christ there’s no way Hoyoverse isn’t writing them that way on purpose. I mean, I’m already a sucker for Old Married Couple type bickering, but then you give me the undercurrent of how much they genuinely mean to each other? How much Alhaitham is genuinely caring about how self-destructive Kaveh is? How Kaveh just absolutely will not shut up about Alhaitham, even the other characters are like “You talk about him so much that it’s like he’s been here with us all night.”? Yeah, of course I fell in love. So, here, cry about a gacha game having beautifully designed characters with just the right types of personality and funny banter that know how to knock me the fuck out with both delight and genuine feelings about idiots in love. Or just old elemental grandpas who annoy the shit out of each other because they’re both several millennia old and nobody else understands their weird friendship. Something that will never cease to rot my brain is just how brilliantly mhy have developed Xiao's character over the past three years. I'm lucky enough to have started playing Genshin before he was added to the game (which does of course mean newer players have probably had a different experience of him, I'll get into that later) so I've been there for every single moment that Xiao appeared and it's always so amazing to me just how much effort has been put into him. (Long rant and Mild Spoilers for the Poetry Gala Event below lol)

Xiao in the Archon quest and in 1.3 (both in his character quest and 1.3 Lantern Rite) compared to Xiao in the most recent event is truly like night and day, and what's most impressive about that is that how he acts in the poetry event feels completely true to his character. Xiao has earned this gentleness over the past three years, as the traveler but also the other people he's met have urged him to open up and interact with others more often.

This really couldn't have been achieved without mhy taking advantage of every scrap of screen time Xiao has gotten. They absolutely have favorites and Xiao is for sure one of them. I'll use Moonchase as a comparison to the Poetry Gala. Back then we saw Xiao on screen for maybe 5 minutes at most, appearing because the traveler called him, tasting Xiangling's dish and giving her a compliment (at least for his standards for giving compliments) and then disappearing. But now we see him at the poetry event being invited to join by Venti and Hu Tao (and him not outright refusing!!), and then staying to socialize with Chongyun's group when everyone (not just the traveler) asks him to.

3.4 Lantern Rite and the Poetry Gala have felt like the biggest steps due to the fact that we see Xiao actively participating in activities of his own volition. Most of his appearances before 3.4 (and even after, counting Baizhu's quest) are dictated by about 2.5 factors. The first is his duty: protecting Liyue from evil, more specifically keeping its people safe from these evils. The second is being called by the traveler, an act which I would consider a symbol of their friendship later on, but in the beginning and probably still in a lingering capacity now I think can be attributed to a sense of debt towards them. They helped save Liyue in a time of crisis, after having no obligation to do so, and someone like Xiao who takes his duties in protecting Liyue so seriously would absolutely feel like he owes a complete outsider like the traveler a debt after they kinda did his job for him. So much of Xiao's character is about debts, after all. That even ties into the 2.5th reason, where he would probably feel some obligation to appear at Lantern Rite because Zhongli would be there, though it's unclear if Hu Tao mentioned he would be so it might not even count in that case.

Now we see Xiao participating in events on the invitation of Hu Tao and Venti who are seeking him out because they see him as a friend. We see him taking not only the traveler's feelings into account when asked to participate, but also Chongyun and Diona's. It's such a far cry from his "I don't associate with mortals" attitude that we saw back in 2021.

That barely even touches the shift we've seen in his demeanor either. Back in 2021, Xiao always spoke very curtly and in as few words as possible, always seeming displeased any time he had to hold a conversation, but now he's loosened up so much that the difference is honestly staggering. It even shows through in his birthday letters from 2021 vs. 2023 (And even here we see him going out of his way to socialize of his own volition, so proud of him!):

I've gone back and forth between EN and CN voiceovers in the past year, so some of Xiao's appearances I've only experienced in CN, but hearing him in the Poetry Gala event in EN I can only give his voice actress a thousand kudos for how amazing her performance is. Xiao's voice has softened with time, and it's such a small detail, but I honestly think that it's what hammers his growth home more than anything else for me. He's not only willing to have full conversations with people he's less familiar with now, but he also doesn't feel the need to speak as harshly to them either, and that's really amazing to hear play out in the game.

Xiao's voicelines are so fascinating to me for that very reason, because they act as a time capsule for how he was back in 2021, and that's just not what he sounds like anymore. Obviously, voice actors' performances of their characters will shift with time but Xiao is the only character for which I can say that his demeanor really has just changed with time. Of course, I think that in some cases this does actually make sense, namely if a newer player pulls Xiao and has only gotten to experience the Archon Quest and maybe his Character Quest. In that case, all of the time that has passed simply doesn't exist. But at the same time I can only imagine how funny it would be for a long-time player who simply never pulled Xiao for one reason or another to pull him and listen to his lines and hear his older, edgier self lol

Though on that note I do also need to point out the biggest downside of all of this, and what is perhaps my greatest sadness about Xiao's character development, which is that new Genshin players simply won't have the chance to experience it. There are many characters who get the short end of the stick with the nature of Genshin's serialized storytelling and limited-time events (Albedo, Kazuha, and a plethora of 4 stars who don't get featured much, just to name a few), but I think Xiao's actually saddens me the most, because I believe the time that has passed is the greatest strength when it comes to this development. People will get to see his arc from the Archon Quest to Perilous Trail (and thank god they preserved Perilous Trail as an Interlude), but even that is still a shadow of Xiao's actual progression over the years.

These days, newer Genshin players may have only seen Xiao in the Liyue Archon Quest before playing the Poetry Gala event (unless Perilous Trail is a prereq, which I don't know off the top of my head), and I can't even imagine how jarring it would be to see how he acts there and then immediately see him in this event. The way that time works in this case would probably just make it seem like mhy doesn't know what they're doing with Xiao when in reality three years of development have been compressed into a matter of weeks. Knowing that, I'm grateful to have been able to experience his story in its truest form, but it also cannot go unacknowledged that some aspects of Genshin's story have a shorter shelf life than others. It's a major problem with the game, from some perspectives, but at the same time it's just a consequence of how it's being developed.

Anyway, I just needed to gush after seeing Xiao absolutely steal the show in part 2 of the quest with his quiet participation and little smile (crying). He's so good and I love him so much, and it's so nice to see what they've done with him after he finally got some semblance of closure after Perilous Trail <3

Pretty amazing duo. You both would get along really well, especially with the magic stuff!

Even though you don't know much about magic, Lyney would still try to show you small tricks!

Expect to be featured in future performances. (He doesn't realize people can't see you) He has to show the whole world that he has the best companions!

You both would also get into trouble a lot. Pranks, accidents, tricks, they're all really common. Flirting competitions are also a thing and Lynette has had enough of it.

He doesn't care if you're a ghost. After all, you're his best friend. (Soon to be lover)

Bennett ♡

Pretty interesting friendship, but also very cute.

Bennett keeps getting himself into trouble because of his luck, and you protect him.

I would say that Bennett made a wish of having an adventure team instead of getting rid of his bad luck. It confused you, but you told him that you would be the first member of his little team.

And just like that, a new friendship formed!

He apologizes a lot since you're the one always saving him. You know it's not his fault, so you always reassure him that everything's fine. After all, you haven't had this much fun in decades.

When he realizes that you're a ghost, he finds it pretty cool, but also upsetting. If you were a ghost, then that means you died, right..?

He won't ask for the details, but he still wonders every now and then.

Xiao ♡

He admires your strength.

Although he finds you to be mostly annoying, he still likes to watch you fight.

He previously couldn't touch you, but because he made some sort of 'bond' with you, he's able to make physical contact with you.

He would push you away at first, but eventually he won't mind your presence. He won't bother asking about your background and you wouldn't ask about his.

Even though one of you is way louder than the other, it's still a pretty silent friendship since you both secretly understand each other.

Venti ♡

Best friendship ever.

You both would never shut up.

Diluc has had enough of the both of you, but you both don't care. If you add Lyney to this small group, then you three would be unstoppable!

Even though you both like pulling pranks on Diluc and Paimon, you still both have small moments of peace.

For example, there are times when both of you just sit in silence, accompanied by each other's presence.

Sometimes it happens during night at Windrise when the both of you are thinking about past experiences. Even so, you both feel comforted that someone is there to understand.

He also doesn't care that you're a ghost. To be honest, he thinks you're more human than anything.

Scaramouche ♡

He can't stand you.

You helped him out once when a bunch of treasure hoarders were trying to rob him. Even though he could've handled it himself, he still enjoyed watching you fight them.

BUT, just because you helped him once does not mean you could follow him around!

He wouldn't listen to you as you talk about 'stupid topics'. Right now he wanted to be alone, but you weren't granting him that wish.

He tried attacking you, but that didn't really help since you're a ghost. How annoying.

Eventually, he gives up. He let's you follow him since he knew yelling at you wasn't going to solve anything.

Even though he would give you the silent treatment, slowly and eventually he would start coming around.

He would mumble a few words here and there, but in your eyes, it's still progress!

Aether ♡

You remind him a lot of Hu Tao.

He is not bothered by you since he deals with a lot of different people throughout the day, but someone doesn't appreciate your presence.

Paimon always tells you to stop following them, but Aether always defends you, saying that she follows him too.

He will hide you from Hu Tao, though, since he knows that she would probably try to 'put you away.'

He doesn't believe that you could make wishes come true, but he still tries it anyway.

"I want to find my sister."

You were caught off guard by the serious request since you weren't expecting him to say something like that.

When you find out he also has a twin, it reminds you of your own. Oh, how you wish you had a strong sibling bond like Aether and Lumine...

Even though the both of you have similar personalities, Hu Tao gives you the Qiqi treatment.

She tries to help you cross over, which in her eyes is a generous thing to do, but you can't leave this world just yet! You still have so much to do.

SYNOPSIS ; Sometimes the friends you meet randomly are better than the ones you've known for years.

“I don't want no lunchbox friends”

I sat down with my friend group, it was just Tighnari, Alhaitham, Nilou, Cyno, Kaveh, Dehya, Candace and I. They all talked but whenever I tried to talk I was ignored, this often happened so I usually just ate my food and left, it wasn't like they noticed anyways. I finished my food and stood up with my empty lunch tray and put it on the cart before leaving the lunch room. I sat down outside in the courtyard, my back rested against the big oak tree. I usually sat here after eating and leaving my friend group to talk, it was a quiet and closed off space that I liked to be in during the rest of lunch or the entirety of lunch.

For a long time now I had been wondering if I should just, find new friends. But I’m not sure if I can because I’m not the most social person so I don’t really know if I’d have the guts to try and start a conversation with someone, let alone my own friend group. I sighed softly as the bell rung, getting up and walking back inside of the school building. I walked through the hallway, I felt my chest hurt as I watched my friends happy together without even noticing my absence, I shook my head as I just walked to my next class.

I sat down at my desk, I screamed internally as the class started to get flooded with students. The teacher walked inside and waited for students to sit down and stop talking. “Alright class, that’s enough, onto today’s lesson.” The teacher started with as she walked to the whiteboard and started to write on it, she wrote ‘GROUP HISTORY PROJECT’ on the board, some students cheered while others groaned, I was one of the few that groaned because I didn’t have anyone to partner with. “You can pick your own groups, if you don’t have one I’ll assign you one.” she spoke before people started to move with their groups, I sat in my seat as I looked at the other groups. I was shocked when 4 people came up to my desk and sat down.

“I’m Hu Tao! This is Ayaka, Xiao and Scaramouche.” The brown haired one said, I now knew as Hu Tao smiled as the other girl Ayaka spoke. “I hope you don’t mind us just adding you to our group, we say you didn’t have a group so we thought we’d just invite you to ours.” Ayaka spoke as the two guys Scaramouche and Xiao nodded. I smiled softly as I looked at all of them, “I don’t mind at all, I’m glad someone chose me to be in their group or else I’d have to be forcefully put in a group with people that didn’t want me there. So, what nation do you guys wanna work on for the project?” I asked as I pulled out my notebook, Xiao spoke up for the first time and said “How about the nation you’re from?” Hu tao, Ayaka and Scaramouche all nodded in agreement, I smiled again from their interest in me, “I’m from Natlan, so I know some of the history about it already involving the old archon, Murata.” I spoke as I started to write down notes about Natlan. “I’ll start on the research with Xiao.” Scaramouche spoke as he pulled his laptop out of his bag along with Xiao. “I’ll buy markers, a poster board and other things to decorate it. Just send me things you’d think would look good!” Ayaka spoke up as she started to type some things down on her phone, “I’ll decorate the poster board!” Hu Tao said excitedly as she wrapped her arm around Ayaka’s shoulder with a silly smile.

“What should I do?” I asked as I wrote down some facts about Natlan and about the ancient Pyro Archon “You can just write down things you already know and make the poster organized!” Hu Tao spoke as she helped Ayaka select things for the poster board.

“I want someone who understands”

I ran around Ayaka’s kitchen island as Hu Tao chased me with a mischievous look on her face. “GET BACK HERE Y/N” Hu Tao yelled as she chased me around, I ran while screaming and laughing, “SCARA PROTECT ME!!” I yelled as I ran towards him and jumped on him, Xiao snickered as Ayaka laughed quietly, Scaramouche laughed as well as Hu Tao yelled “DOGGY PILE!!” before she jumped on Scaramouche as well, Xiao and Ayaka shrugged before following Hu Tao, Scara and I groaned at the weight of all our friends on top of us.

“Dude did you hear that Nilou got caught cheating on her exams for college?” Hu Tao said as she ate her lunch, I gasped and snickered as Ayaka looked shocked. “Honestly, I don’t understand how you hung out with the Sumeru kids Y/N.” Xiao said as he ate his almond tofu, I shrugged as I looked over to my old lunch table and was shocked to see them staring at me. It’s been a while since I had sat with them and they were just now noticing my absence, I was shocked to hear Ayaka yell “STOP STARING AS IF THEY DROPPED YOU!” every one at our lunch table was shocked to hear our sweet Ayaka yell, but it made my old friends turn away quickly as we went back to eating and gossiping with each other.

I sniffled softly as I leaned my head on Scaramouche’s shoulder while we watched our friends attempt to cook me my comfort food because I cancelled our plans and they showed up to my house just to figure out was was wrong and comfort me. I was glad they came because they helped me get back to my usual self. I was brought out of my thoughts when I felt Scara’s hand rubbing my shoulder as he whispered to me “You okay?” he asked, to which I just smiled in response and whispered back “I’ve never been happier.” I felt his cheek rest again my head as Ayaka brought me a plate of my comfort food as they all ate the leftovers.

“Come to my house, let's die together”

“We’ll be friends after we finish this project right?” I asked as I looked at the 4 people I called my friends, we were about to present the project and I was scared I’d have to go back to my old friend group. “Of course we will silly!” Ayaka spoke as she smiled at me, “You’re way to deep in to get rid of us now.” Hu Tao snickered while Xiao nodded and Scaramouche ruffled my hair, “I’m glad I’m too deep in because I wouldn’t have it any other way.” I smiled as Hu Tao pulled us all into a big group hug.

We got an A on the project and still, we obviously stayed friends. Hu Tao would always make plans for us to do during breaks and the weekends for us to do instead of sitting around all day. I’m glad that they invited me to their group because I wouldn’t have it any other way. I was in a happy relationship with Scaramouche and we all always hung out. We finally graduated high school and now Hu Tao and Xiao were visiting Liyue and Ayaka went home to Inazuma over our last summer break before college. Scaramouche took me to Inazuma to meet his mom and sister before taking me to visit his aunt Makoto’s grave, after our fun trip in Inazuma we went to Sumeru to see his Auntie Rukkhadevata and little cousin Nahida.

“Friendship that would last forever”

It had officially been 6 years since my friend group graduated high school, Scaramouche and I are getting married soon, Hu Tao is chronically single and Xiao & Ayaka have been engaged since they got into college. We always spend time together for the holidays, and we have our own traditions that we’ll pass down to our future kids. Hu Tao is planning on adopting in the future, Xiao and Ayaka have already had their first kids, which happened to be twins and I never thought I’d see Xiao cry but I watched him cry while holding his daughter and son for the very first time, little Kayo was named after her grandmother and little Menogias was named after Xiao’s brother that passed away when he was young. Their children are 3 now and they’ll get a cousin soon..

Our friend group mutually agreed we’d all tell our kids that they’re cousins and have them refer to everyone in the group as Auntie or Uncle, the Kamisato twins will soon meet their cousin, baby Makoto would be coming into the world soon.

“woah.. so that was mom’s story.” A little girl said while she held her toddler brother in her arms, Yasu smiled as they looked at their Auntie Hu Tao while their older cousins Kayo and Menogias helped their mother in the kitchen. “We’re back from the store!” A voice yelled as Makoto and Yasu bolted to the door, “Mommy! Daddy! Auntie Tao told us the story of how you met!” Makoto said excitedly as Scaramouche picked up Yasu, “You gotta be quiet hun, Kana and Kuni are sleeping.” I spoke, carrying the twins in baby wraps.

“I can’t believe Venti fell asleep already,” Aether chuckles, nudging at Venti’s limp body laying on the floor.

“I’m on my own now,” you sigh, shaking your head in disappointment at your fallen teammate.

“Not for long,” Kazuha speaks up, “Childe and Scara are coming over.”

“This will be entertaining,” Hu tao snickers, looking at you.

“Kazuha, I’ll make you pay for that,” you huff, rolling the dice as he laughs.

The dorm to Heizou’s dorm opens and in walks the very person you’ve grown to strongly dislike. Though, much less now.

“Stop glaring at me,” Scara remarks, gracing you with an eye roll as he joins you on the floor beside you, the only other empty spot.

“Venti fell asleep so you guys can be a team or join Y/n,” Lumine says, holding up a player piece, “Who wants to be the race car?”

Childe snatches it and sends Scara an apologetic look, “Sorry, this is my moment.”

Scara gives you a side-eye as you both realize you’re both forced to team up. If only Venti hadn’t dozed off earlier…

Oddly, the game goes smoothly. An hour or two goes by with you two bickering over your next move but also using your desire to always be number one to demolish your friends. Despite being a theatre major Scara is surprisingly strategic with how he takes over more than half the board, much to Heizou’s dismay.

“Maybe your true calling is business,” you joke as you take over yet another property with him. You look over to see Scara not react to your comment, not noticing how Childe sends Scaramouche a knowing look.

“Ha, anyway it’s my turn—,” Childe starts, but is interrupted with Scara abruptly standing up.

“I’m gonna go,” he announces, placing his stack of money hastily in your palms before making his way to the door.

“I should go as well, I forgot the key to our dorm,” Childe chuckles, standing up, “Good game guys! We should do this again,” he smiles before quickly following behind Scara.

“Wonder what’s up with them,” you mumble, staring at the stack of bills in your hand. Was it something you said?

“Guess that means we have to start over!” Heizou excitedly cheers while everyone else groans simultaneously.

It’s just typical Liyue gossip. Xiangling hears it all when she’s working in the kitchen, and the flavour of the week changes just as quickly as the menu.

Okay, so she might hope that she’s wrong, especially when she spies the two of them sitting together and enjoying her food. How could she not, when she sees Lumine’s face light up with laughter and the soft smile that the consultant answers her with? There’s a warmth between them that’s undeniable, a friendship built from bonding over the deepest of struggles.

Xiangling is positive that they’re just friends, but that doesn’t mean she can’t hope, right?

Hu Tao

O-ho, Hu Tao just knows that they’re fucking.

Sure, she’s never caught them in the act or anything - Zhongli seemed to be way too stuffy for anything that risqué, but it’s not like she hasn’t seen the signs.

Her consultant’s unusual hours, his spontaneous requests to take leave that sometimes devolved into outright absenteeism. And so what if that’s what he was ‘usually’ like, Hu Tao knows this is different.

Watching the way Zhongli undressed Lumine with his eyes from across the banquet table just confirmed it.

And they probably thought they were being sneaky, ha!

Shenhe

Shenhe was starting to realise how much people talk. Their chatter was never ending, pointless drivel that was loud and suffocating to her senses. She’d gotten used to the whispers and the sidelong glances she received from the residents of Liyue, curiosity getting the better of them as they wondered just who, or what, she was.

But the new rumour had taken everyone by storm. The consultant and the traveller were lovers, they said.

Huh.

Right or wrong, Shenhe would happily teach that consultant a lesson or two if he ever hurt her friend, Cloud Retainer’s warnings be damned.

Of course, that’s about as far as she got before she focused back on her character. It would be utterly unprofessional to appear absentminded while performing.

And Yun Jin had to bite her lip to stop herself from squealing out loud.

He definitely didn’t come across Master Zhongli and Lumine together when he had been tailing a demon along the foothills of Jueyun Karst. Nope, not at all.

And he definitely never saw the consultant pressing the traveller up against the trunk of a lone tree.

Nor did he see Lumine’s legs wrapped around Zhongli’s waist.

And he absolutely did. not. hear. anything.

Chongyun felt himself heating up, and frantically prayed he had enough popsicles to cool himself down.

Xiao

Xiao knew that Rex Lap- er, Zhongli was taking every step to adapt to a mortal’s way of life. The prime of the adepti seemed totally at ease with the position he now held within the world, even if it grated Xiao to no end.

But a mortal life meant new experiences. Employment, friendship… even love.

He doesn’t quite understand Zhongli’s reasons, but as he watched them walk towards the inn, the old Archon’s hand resting upon her hip, he could empathise with the desire for human connection.

But either way, he had no desire to confront an overprotective, broody adeptus to ask for answers.

Spring was nearly upon them, and it was hard to deny the scent of their desirous pheromones even from this distance.

can i ask why you don't like xingyun? /gen not a shipper myself but i'm just curious since a lot of chongyun lovers love that ship, i've never seen anyone NOT like it

im gonna be honest the number one reason is because i see it everywhere

the first effect of this is that content depicting xingqiu and chongyun in a nonromantic manner get tagged as xing/yun, which is annoying to me. you can draw 2 characters together in a nonromantic manner and you don't have to tag the ship guys. it's real it's called being friends. the second effect is that there's never any content with chongyun and Other Characters. people are so hung up on him and xingqiu that chongyun almost never exists without xingqiu. like you might notice i have a tag for chongyun and hu tao (mostly platonic) stuff except that there are only 7-8 posts tagged with that, because although the "exorcist and girl who can see ghosts" dynamic would be so cool, nobody seems to think abt that bc almost everything with chongyun includes xingqiu. this also goes for chongyun and xiangling (who canonically makes him his cooling popsicles) and like random other characters whom he Could interact with and be friends with (ayaka and him is a crack friendship i talked about once, and ofc chongyun and xiao). i hate it. xingqiu got his mr worldwide arc with venti and albedo please depict chongyun alone with other friends (it literally doesn't even have to be romantic). of course, this might just be a separate problem that I'm conflating with the ship, but it annoys me. i'm not focusing on xingqiu's side because although fan content for like idk him and yun jin? him and hu tao? albedo? is also super rare, at least that stuff exists in canon.

the second reason is because xingqiu's prankster attitude towards chongyun annoys me

yeah i love my little shit son but idk, it's just annoying when people make him feed chongyun spicy food, play pranks on him that cost chongyun Something (losing face, wasted time, frustration) idk. i guess i don't like that his condition isn't taken seriously. i don't think it's bad to have friends who pull your leg but at least not in a malicious way? like iirc he's implied to have triggered chongyun's yang energy overflows at least a couple times, and it's like . why. why is it played for jokes the kid literally passes out. "(He) needs more practice. Especially… with eating spicy food, haha." bro please do not !! don't trigger his condition just for kicks! xingqiu's other pranks also annoy me, given that i hate being tricked, so some of this might be projection or smth idk, but like idk you can give him good suggestions for where to demon hunt instead of making up shit and then going after him to make up for any costs. it's just annoying i think chongyun gets annoyed but then later forgives him, as friends are, but i cannot imagine them getting together like this. unless it's toxic idk . if they're friends i can give a pass to the pranks and stuff but in a romantic relationship i don't think i could see this kind of dynamic being a good one

If friendship level was indicating how characters were acting about you in impostor sagau, where you would be safest?

1-3 - they know something is wrong with you, but they still act as if you were the imposter

4-7 - they will ignore you. They won't help but they won't rush to capture you if u know what I mean

8-10 - they will help you hide and will try and act on the side to convince others that you are not an imposter

For me it's probably Mondstadt or Liyue

From Mondstadt I have friendship lv10 with Diluc, Barbara, Lisa, Amber, Kaeya, lv8 with Noelle and Bennett.

For Liyue i have Zhongli, Kazuha and Xiao on lv10, Ningguang, Yun Jin, Yanfei and Xiangling on lv8

In Inazuma, well... My raiden is on lv7 and rest is below lv5 so yeah, not good

In Sumeru I have to get to Tighnari, as he is on lv10, Cyno is on 6 so it's not the worst thing I guess

Anyways, I'm safest in Mondstadt

tbh it's equally as safe and dangerous here i feel hsldfjlksdf zhongli. zhongli please you have to keep me safe-

lv. 10 zhongli and xiao + lv. 9 xingqiu + lv. 8 qiqi - yk what this isn't bad i have a dps, support, shielder, and healer i'm all set lmaooo

well... considering there are two characters who are my only triple-crowned peeps here (xiao and zhongli), i am praying to rex lapis that they would keep me safe ;;;

lv. 3 yun jin + lv. 2 yaoyao would be after me haldjsldj

no yelan, hu tao, shenhe, ganyu, childe - i think out of these people the only dangerous ones would be ganyu and childe (if they're devoted to the impostor that is). the others doesn't seem like the type who would care much about impostor gods and such... unless this is the sagau with heavy cultist element, in which case hoo boy guess we'll see who wins...

i feel like my only option here is to:

1) rely on kazuha to persuade beidou (lv. 6) so they can snuck me out to liyue, or

2) rely on thoma to persuade ayato (lv. 7) for a temporary shelter in the kamisato residence (but i don't have ayaka so it's more likely that she might influence her brother to turn me in to the shogun shdlfkjsdl), or

3) rely on shinobu to persuade itto (lv. 6) to take me in... but can i live as an arataki gang member? ........... probably not.....

i have no ei or yae so as soon as they see me i think i'm gonna be vaporized ala signora so uh. yeah.
