So.

I may have just binged Xiaolin Showdown- I’m not quite at the finish line yet, but I am screaming. First of all - the main four embody their elements so well!

Between Clay’s down to earth attitude, but at the same time - being a strong, hard-to-take-down opponent. As a dragon of earth, I was definitely in awe the entire time. I enjoy his character so much, and the Texan sayings he says? Count me in!

Kimiko? Her fiery attitude matches being the dragon of fire so well. She has a free-spirited energy, and can’t easily be tamed even by the wildest of evils. She has an immeasurable, headstrong way of directly taking things on. She’s grown more as a character, but because these characters are likely no older than 13 - they still have a lot more to learn.

Raimundo. Dragon of Wind. He’s the most unpredictable of all of them sometimes - he has an energy which cannot be tamed, and won’t be held down by anything (even if it almost became his door fall). Though in the end, he came back around- deciding he couldn’t abandon his friends…

And then there’s Omi. The Dragon of Water. With his strength, athleticism, and optimistic personality make him perfect for his element- his cheerful but bold attitude are a wonderful mix and I cannot wait to see more from him and the rest of the cast! Though I only got to episode 25, and I’m purring like an idiot- Omi’s characteristics are mirrored as if it were water. He almost seems to go with the flow, but in the end - like a tsunami - he will always protect the ones he cares about.

But now- I get to talk about what I was itching to focus on grrr.

Our villains…

Jack Spicer is certainly the kind of villain who serves as comic relief, but even then- he’s a genuine good fodder to the four monks that stand against him. At times, we’ll see him team up with them for a shady cause, and I find this almost charming. While he isn’t the most terrifying of villains, and he simply functions as the filler for the monks to handle, I’ve grown quite fond of his character!

but ho boy, then we have Wuya and can I just say- she might not have a physical form but even then - she makes for a great opponent. The episodes in which she gained physical form were done so well, and I found myself being drawn in more and more. Her cunning and trickery make her a hard enemy to beat- and I am curious to see where else this series takes us.

BUT there’s another character that has me frothing at the mouth: Chase Young.

Previously on the side of good, Chase Young turned evil on the promise of power and youth- he has his army of Fallen Warriors to guard him, and well, if the fact he’s immensely powerful. Not to mention, he’s incredibly strong and has been around for, say, a while (?). He’s already caught my interest and I can’t wait to see more of him… also his interest in Omi from episode 25 “The Evil Within” has my metaphorical tail wagging because holy- I’m already seeing the vision: Chase attempting to sway Omi onto the side of evil…

Also, the Fallen Warriors being cats while Chase Young has slitted golden eyes (and yes, I know that secretly the mf is reptilian-) is extremely ironic and I live for it- nonhuman Chase for the win because, well, that is what he is! I can’t wait to continue seeing more of his character-

Of course, this is hardly helping my case at all…

Xiaolin Showdown and Randy Cunningham: 9th Grade Ninja would be such an interesting crossover- like, I do have a couple ideas cooking in my mind but at the same time… I need to develop this a little more! And if it happens to be influenced by the whole First Ninja and Chase Young dynamic, no it isn’t - whatever do you mean /lh

Before I start, let me preface this by making it clear that this post is NOT anti-Chack. This is just about my thoughts on it. And how my perspective changed.

I have read several stories with Chack as the pairing, when I was younger I used to enjoy reading that pairing, and while it's no longer my cup of tea I can still see what the appeal is.

But I've recently been watching Xiaolin Showdown again, and what I noticed when I was younger has an even stronger hold on me now; which is canon Chase really likes Omi. Like every time I watch these episodes, it's like wow, Chase likes Omi more than I thought. (Yes I am talking about platonic like, not romantic.)

And then I see how Chase and Jack in canon interact, and it gives me mental whiplash compared to how they are in the Chack stories I used to read. Because in canon Chase really doesn't like Jack.

(A few mentions may come up, but I'm not really going to compare the relationships between Omi & Chase/Jack & Chase, because to me its like comparing apples and oranges.)

I would go so far as to say, that any realized Chack fics are inherently OOC, because Chase outright tried to kill Jack once and made it clear a few different times that he wouldn't care if Jack died. And that doesn't translate to Chase secretly loving Jack.

That being said, I do see the appeal. Jack is a very likable character. And he can be very relatable. When I was younger, he was my favorite because I related to him. And I wanted him to win and have the stuff he wanted.

And that's where Chack came in. Because I think anyone who watches Xioalin Showdown can agree that if Chase acted towards Jack the way that he acts towards Omi, Jack would have snapped that apprenticeship up like an alligator snapping turtle snaps up a fish. And if Chase had been as persistent with Jack as he was with Omi, I think that the series would have ended with Jack firmly at Chase's side as his apprentice/second in command.

Obviously that didn't happen which I'm glad for because I adore the dynamic between Chase and Omi.

But that primarily leaves fanfiction for genuinely happy Jack, seeing as in canon his triumphant/happy moments were usually temporary.

Because Chack fanfiction fulfils his need to be wanted, to matter, to be accepted. And to get all all that from his personal hero/favorite person no less?

So I think that's where the main appeal comes from, because I think Jack was always meant to be an audience appealing character. And audiences often want said characters to be happy or triumphant especially if they aren't in canon.

That's why I used to like Chack. Now, it's not my favorite. Like I said, I don't dislike it. I'm not anti-chack. But it's just not my thing anymore, because while many of the stories are enjoyable, it's to the point where it's just a little too OOC for me.

I would say, in canon, Chase has honest affection for Omi and genuine appreciation for his talents.

Whereas with Jack, Chase views him as an occasionally useful, annoying insect that he'd be fine with getting squashed. Or eaten.

Now with all that being said, I have something to say to chack authors.

For those of you who put in the effort to keep the characters as in character as possible, I am in awe of your skill.

For those who are simply enjoying writing their favorite characters, I adore your creativity.

And I think that most of y'all should be published authors and raking in that dough.

I don’t know what to do with the other ask blogs that aren’t receiving attention; i don’t know if it’s because they’re AU’s or what but if anyone’s curious about say, the role swap verse or other things — just ask me! Or… idk interact with this post somehow and I’ll gladly share more-

A security guard was patrolling the museum to protect the most valuable antiques and treasures. They were funded by a wealthy pig. And the museum was just a cover, a facade, to gather rare and priceless artifacts under false pretensions, under historic preservation. Behind its walls, it's a place where rare and priceless artifacts are auctioned and sold to other wealthy pigs, who are too loaded with wealth and prefer to waste it all on materialistic objects.

Secretly, everyone was on high alert and on the lookout for a phantom thief who called herself "Scarlet." No one had ever heard of her before. But a week ago, before the auction, she left her "call card" on the wealthy pig's bedstand, which almost gave him a heart attack. Someone could have dared to sneak into his home and dodge all his high-tech security systems and cameras, while he was asleep. Eerily, her message to him was:

"I, Phantom Theif Scarlet, will come to liberate all your riches off your hand. Be sure to prepare my arrival with the utmost caution..."

Of course, the wealthy man didn't take her threat seriously, but for his peace of mind, he hired the cheapest security firm he could find. To keep his valuables safe, he had them guarded by a team of incompetent amateurs from a cheap security company who couldn't keep anything safe. That's what happens when you pay your security for pennies. And as the guards, watch the clock tick down to midnight. The hall was hung with an intense atmosphere. Enough to be cut with a blade. At the stroke of midnight, everyone holds their breath, waiting for a thief to appear. But as seconds tick by, they let out a sigh of relief when they see no sign of anyone. Some even began to laugh, overestimating that a woman could ever pull off such a heist. How sadly they are mistaken. 

”BOOM!” 

A sudden, loud explosion shook the building from its foundations, triggering panic among the guards. Cursing and scrambling to their feet, the guards ran toward the sound of the explosion, leaving only one guard, who slipped away during the chaos. Unfortunately, he was unnoticed by his colleagues, who were too busy scrambling to their feet.

Innocently whistling as he walks into the display room, where all the valuables are kept. The guard's voice turns feminine as he begins to laugh. Right under their noses. The thief has already infiltrated the building, slipping right past their defenses, by posing as one of their guards. Meanwhile, the real security guard is currently tied-up in the women's bathroom, tricked by the female thief.

With the second ticking away, she quickly pulled out a duffel bag from a hiding spot. As the thief counted down the precious minutes she had left, she began to focus on her shopping spree.
