Okay so I love Luffy being Latino of course, but I did think it was funny how he has the most white-ass grandpa on the planet, like Garp literally has a Scottish accent (which works really well for his character actually ngl). So I thought well maybe we can just assume that Luffy's mixed race from his biological mother's side then or something (it's not like we've seen her or learned a single thing about her in all these years so far) and Dragon will be white too but then no, apparently Dragon was cast already, and he ain't white either. So like, we can just assume Luffy is mixed race or something, or even that his dad just has darker skin, but that leaves Garp as the odd one out lmao
So now Garp's casting is extra funny because like sir, how? How'd you manage to be the only white guy in your family, who is also the only cop mind you, meanwhile your entire family is full of POC criminals who are all fighting the system and sticking it to the man while challenging the government and demolishing corrupt dictatorships? Is the live action show going to try to explain this or just rely on Luffy's absent grandmother to fill in the genetic gaps via audience imagination? Or is it going to be revealed some day that Dragon was adopted or something, because everyone is adopted in One Piece since it's found family propaganda incarnate? Or are they just going to ignore it completely because One Piece genetics are already completely bonkers anyway? Or maybe Garp is just that one white-passing family member with funny genetics who happens to look white lmfao
To be clear, this isn't a complaint, it's something I just find funny. Garp's real world ethnicity hasn't been brought up in any sbs answers I don't think, and the casting has been too perfect for me to have an issue with small things like "how come this Latino kid has a white Scottish grandpa?" if anything it heightens the experience and adds to the surprise of the reveal 😂

Sooooo I recently watched Alchemy of Souls Season 1 and first off, I GET THE HYPE.
All I have to say though is after Jang Uk said ‘Marry Me, Mu deok,’ I shut my laptop and said ‘And they lived happily ever after. THE END.’
That’s where the show ended, that’s where it stops, episode 19. It was an amazing 19 episodes. I’m glad they wrapped it all up in that 1 season. Peace, love and happiness.
side note; I went into this series knowing that there was gonna be 3 love interests for the female lead and as someone who normally despises love triangles or anything more I seriously wondered how I would like this particular aspect of the show. But she had chemistry with EVERYONE! I can’t pick a side (Jang Uk all the way), every time she had time alone with one of them I couldn’t hate or be biased cause the chemistry was just chemistrying, it was THERE!
Anywayssss 20 19 episodes really drained me emotionally in a way I was not prepared for, so no I will not be watching season 2 (or 3?).

hannibal with a blind significant other is such a brain rotting concept.
•hannibal knows that when you lose one of your senses, your others become enhanced, at first he doesn’t notice you can also smell the blood on him when he comes home sometimes
•he doesn’t think anything much of your smiles when you eat at his table, he always insists on helping you drink primarily wine, he doesn’t really care if it gets knocked over, but he knows you get embarrassed sometimes. the real reason is he loves to see your reaction, his taste and his palette is refined, that has been carved out from all of his experiences in becoming a man, he wants to share that with you.
•he pieces it together swiftly, after killing the pig that dared to be rude to you or both of you. you two were at a concert, you sat in a reserved seat to cater to your needs and hannibal stood with perfect posture bedside you, resting his hand on your sunken shoulders. it was a peaceful night until an ill mannered man started complaining about his right to sit, and even going to a stretch that you were faking being blind for extra privileges.
•when the man ends up on the dining table, he finds himself caught off guard by your “thank you.” it’s more than just the meal he was thanked for, and pride swells in his chest that not only do you condone his habits but encourage it to an extent.
•this trope becomes even better if the significant other is blind because they were also a serial killer and their last victim managed to do unrepairable damage to their eyes. your injuries on the other person are labelled as self defence and your ‘assaulter’ gets the death penalty for supposed planned murder.
•a part of your past self lives on and thrives with knowing hannibal is still killing and is so passionate about it
•on nights where it hits hard, the emotional and mental impact of being blind, hannibal sits with you. he can empathise and try to understand, but he’s never had a problem with his vision, so he holds your hand and describes things you miss seeing, and then he describes you.
•hannibal loves being cheesy, he makes notes in braille and uses the excuse that you have a bit of sauce on your face when you’re eating (most of the time you don’t) just so he can caress your face or kiss the corner of your mouth
just some of my thoughts, might make a part 2 since i’m a bit sleep rn

I still think The Flash CW (2014-2023) TV show did us a massive disservice by killing off Barry's father Henry. Like, He had more screen time IN prison than he did OUT of prison. He had his welcome home from prison party, And after YEARS, Was finally able to be with his son and just fucking noped out to go live by himself in the woods and fish??? What??? Your SON is right there! DO YOU NOT WANT HIM??? THE FUCK, OLD MAN? And then we see him like...TWO times, All alone in his cabin, Giving advice to Barry and then he DIES??? WHAT? EXCUSE YOU??
Anywho, That show became shit during like the 4th or 5th season and I fucking hate it now I but still have to finish it bc I have to know how it ends. What I would GIVE for Henry to have stayed alive and met the speed force taking Nora's form. I would literally kill for that.

The Buffy Re-watch: S1E7 (part 2)
Angel
Does Angel not eat human food? Or is that really a Spike thing? Because even as a vampire I wouldn't turn down free food, I'm not stupid. Honestly, if you were a vampire, wouldn't you miss the taste of certain foods you enjoyed as a human if you only stuck to drinking blood?
Buffy jumping the gun on Angel reading her diary. Miscommunication can often be annoying, like in many Rom-Coms, where it is used to stretch out the plot and create drama for the sake of it where it could have been resolved with one conversation. This is not one of those times, this is done well and resolved quickly. No complaints.
Buffy is 16, Angel is 240. Yes, there is an issue here, will not deny that. However, I will also not deny that the moment leading up to the kiss is sweet. It's just that Angel needs to ditch the stalking, watching from distance and the cryptic messages and I would like it a bit more.
After the kiss, we see Angel's vamp face. And he just throws himself out of the window and slides down the roof on his stomach. I just found that funny.
The exposition on vampires: they have the look, the memories, the personality, and movements of the person turned, but is still a demon. The question raised: can one be good? Giles says no, but h knows that Angel has proven to be different, we later find out that it's because of his soul. So, does his soul give him back enough of his humanity to override the demon that took up residence? These thoughts will later be brought back up when talking about Spike in seasons 5 and 6.
I have no concept of fashion but what is the point of one-of-a-kind dresses? I'm really willing to learn about this.
Angel's apartment is kind of nice. Like it's a decent space.
Darla and Angel caused a whole lot of damage together. I enjoyed the episodes detailing the adventures of Darla, Angel, Drusilla, and Spike. But going from what Angel says about the last time he saw Darla, she was wearing kimonos. However, in the show Angel, the last time the audience see them together was in China during the Boxer Rebellion. She wasn't wearing a kimono then. So, did they accidentally cross paths at some point in Japan during the time after the Rebellion, before the start of the show? And when and why did she split from Dursilla and Spike?
Angel's curse, does anyone understand it? He's only had it for about 80+ years.
Sneaky Darla, how dare you hurt Joyce and frame Angel. Though angel you shouldn't have changed your face or should have changed back before Buffy got there.
The first of many unfortunate trips to the hospital for Joyce.
Yep, 3 parts it is. Tomorrow, the exciting conclusion of this tragic romance.

Although there wasn't much mystery to be solved I think glass onion takes the cake on how we take a simple thing and make it overly complicated. Just like a glass onion we try to understand and overanalyze when the center is visible RIGHT THERE.
It also is a great nod to Agatha Christie's mysteries where you will find that the answer was right there staring at your face and you didn't even acknowledge it. Rian Johnson extrapolated that concept to express shoddy over confident "successful" billionaires ahem Elon musk ahem and how they are nothing but just a glorified idiot.

S3 E3 TOH
uhm so I just finished watching "Watching and Dreaming" which is the last episode of The Owl House and I knew I was gonna cry, but I didn't think I was gonna hard-core sob like this. I am still laying on the floor crying and I don't feel like moving any time soon. I can't even blame this crying on the ending, the ending was the best ending to any TV show i've ever seen, but I think i've just gotten such an emotional attachment to them and I wasn't ready for them to leave. Goodbye my little witch babies, see you in the next life<3

I convinced my mom to try the live action One Piece, because she's the type to like this style of show even though she isn't into animation and would never read manga, but I didn't think I'd be able to convince my dad because he's usually a stickler for more grounded and realistic stories (his favourite genre is war movies, his favourite movie is Saving Private Ryan, for reference). But, when I brought up with him how I figured it probably wouldn't be his thing because it was fantasy, he mentioned to me that he does enjoy some fantastical stuff if it has like an internal universe logic, like Star Wars, and the more I thought about it, the more I remembered that he also enjoys campy fun action adventure stuff that doesn't take itself too seriously like Indiana Jones or Pirates of the Carribean.
And One Piece has both that internal logic for why people can perform crazy feats (even if it isn't explained right away) which I mentioned to him (just that there is a reason why people can do crazy things in this world), as well as the campy fun action adventure thing going for it, especially in the Live Action (the fight against Morgan's base even has a major Indiana Jones vibes ngl). So I explained that to him and asked if he wanted to try it, and he agreed to watching the first episode with me to decide if he'd watch it with my mom and me.
AND HE ACTUALLY SAID IT WAS INTERESTING SO FAR!! Like, he is NOT the kinda guy to enjoy anime or manga or even western cartoons, always refuses to watch anything anime and doesn't show any interest when I talk about it (I've managed to convince him to watch a few movies like Sword of the Stranger but it's obvious that even when he's not bored or doesn't hate it, it still doesn't catch or keep his interest), and he's really picky about anything fantasy or SciFi, if it like sets off his bullshit meter too much he starts nitpicking the logic behind certain abilities, or decisions, or explanations, etc. I once tried to get him to try Gravity Falls and he wanted to stop after the first episode. He's THAT picky.
So the fact that he actually laughed several times while watching the first episode of OPLA with me, commented about Luffy's character positively several times (he seems to think Luffy is really funny which surprised me cause I thought he'd be the most entertained by Zoro but I mean I can't blame him it is Luffy after all), never cringed or criticised or said anything about how ridiculous it was, means a lot coming from him cause he's always really blunt and honest about his opinion on this sort of stuff (which is fine I don't want him to pretend to enjoy stuff when he doesn't). He actually watched the whole first episode without it losing his attention, and seemed to have fun! And he agreed to watch the rest with my mom and me!
This sort of thing is one of the reasons why I dislike when people just dismiss the idea of live action adaptations entirely. I get that people are jaded with past failures, and don't like when live action is treated like a replacement for or improvement from animation when it isn't. But it is a valid medium just as much as animation or comics or writing are, and can be used to produce some amazing things. And the fact is, there are people who have a hard time connecting with other mediums who will otherwise never engage with this media in its original forms. Live Action, when done well and done right, can reach new audiences and welcome them into the fold in ways the original formats never can.
One Piece didn't need the live action to be popular, obviously, and the live action cannot and will not replace the original, nor should it. But I love that we get to have it alongside the manga and anime. It's just more of what we love, it's the cherry on top of an already stellar multi-layered cake. It complements the original rather than taking anything away from it. And for the first time in over a decade I might be able to share One Piece with my parents, who would only ever have a chance of experiencing it and enjoying it in live action. There's just something so awesome about that for me personally. I just wish more live action adaptations would understand what the One Piece live action understood about the adaptation process, and that's how to keep the heart of the story in-tact, so more people from more fandoms could have a chance to share something they love with more people who it would otherwise not reach.
Anyway, thank you Oda and the OPLA cast and crew for doing live action right for once!

i'm so tired of seeing the love that isn't supposed to be there, the one that's written in subtle glances and inside jokes. i wish i could adore the main-line lovers, the ones that everyone talks about, but i see too much of myself in the ones that are hidden. the ones that aren't typical or pretty or even good. the ones that are real, even if they were never meant to be.
and yet, there is something so remarkable about our ability to find love where, maybe, it wasn't even designed to be. to see the love others ignore, because we're so accustomed to being on the side of that love ourselves.
so here's to the shippers and the fanfiction writers and the bloggers and the artists and the dreamers. thank you for showing me that, no matter what, love can be there. it will be. you just have to look.
