part 1
It was a hot, long, and agonizingly boring day in Smallville, Kansas. My eyes glare at the ceiling of my room as I listened to a battle in Metropolis. My blue tank top rolled up ever so slightly as I moved my right knee, making my shorts rub against each other.
I could be in the city fighting alongside my cousin, but disappointingly, I was forced to stay on a farm. It’s not fair; I’m just as strong, if not more than him, yet I’m forced to sit on the sidelines. I growled at the thought of him lecturing me like a father about using my powers rather than a cousin. With my eyes shut and eyebrows pinched in disdain, I sit up and get out of bed.
“This is bull; Kal el can’t treat me like this,” I crumbled out as I marched to my closet, trying not to let my anger get a hold of me so I wouldn’t have to fix the floor again. Rummaging through my clothes, I found a small bag where I kept some stuff when Darkseid manipulated me.
Hoping to find the tool that could send me somewhere instantly, I found an old bag. Without a second thought, I ripped the bag open and slowly pulled out a boom tube remote, gripping it firmly in my palm. My eyes were stern yet hesitant as I shoved the remote into a backpack filled with clothes and other stuff I needed.
I turned to my window, slid it open, and floated out of my room. Breathing in the fresh air as my hair tosses in the wind. With a big smile, I started to fly towards the woods behind the barn, making sure not to be too close to the farm, not wanting to cause any damage. As I planted my feet on the grass.
“You can’t keep me locked up on a farm forever.” I messed with the remote, tapping on some buttons until a random location appeared. A mischievous smirk twisted on my lips as a boom erupted, making a green portal appear. I didn't even get to fly in as I was sucked into its strong vortex. I hoped to see Metropolis or some familiar place. Still, when I landed on my back unprepared and crushed something underneath me with a grunt, I propped myself up to see nothing but desert and a rocky mountain.
“The hell? Where am I?” I asked as I started to sit up, looking for the remote, only to realize it was the thing that broke my fall.
“fuck!” I shouted out as I tried to grab all the pieces I could. Only to pause when I hear a loud, explosive metal pounding on metal. After cleaning up the broken remains of my boom tube remote, I floated up into the sky. Moving cautiously as I hover over 20 feet in the air over a monstrous cavity in the ground.
My eyes widen as I see two gigantic robotic beings fighting in the cavity. However, one was slightly shorter than the other, with a yellow and black paint job. The taller one was black and dark purple, with a vibrant red visor trying to land a hit on the yellow guy, only to fail and get some ripped out of its chest. A multitude of cables followed it.
“Ugh, robots,” I grumbled, distrusting robots, as I started to float away only to hear loud, obnoxious beeping. Turning my head down, I saw the yellow bot staring at me with wide, bright blue eyes.
“Bzzu bzzu vroom!” The bot jumped wildly, waving his arms as if trying to grab me, even with the height difference. I felt uncomfortable and not exactly pleased with his actions, so I turned around and bolted away, flying like a bullet.
The yellow, worried, yet ever-so-curious bot slowed down its pace. His blue optics moved like a camera, ensuring it had footage and proof to show the rest of his comrades.

𝓗𝓸𝔀 𝓪𝓶 𝓘 𝓰𝓸𝓷𝓷𝓪 𝓫𝓮 𝓪𝓷 𝓸𝓹𝓽𝓲𝓶𝓲𝓼𝓽 𝓪𝓫𝓸𝓾𝓽 𝓽𝓱𝓲𝓼?
The bright, shining 6:00 a.m. Sun shone brightly on my face, unpleasantly stirring me awake. Limbs and hips twisted in bed, cracking the stiffness from my joints before relaxing again, not wanting to get up, wishing for sleep to drag me back into its warm embrace.
Only the agonizing voice of the alarm that was set for the ungodly hour rang; a groan of irritation rumbled from my throat as I lifted my arm and slammed my fist on the clock, shattering it.
“Damn thing,” I muttered, and sluggishly got out of bed. Walking to the bathroom past the mirror, just to notice how messy my hair was, the nasty feeling of oil that glimmered and lined my scalp as I prepped myself for a shower.
•☽────✧˖°˖☆˖°˖✧────☾•
Exiting the steamy bathroom in a fresh pair of blue jean shorts, a red flannel top that belonged to Martha, all tied together with black vans, and slightly damp hair. Looking around the empty room, just the furniture. The rush of feeling went through me, yet I must at least be optimistic. Slow steps to the end of the bed where my backpack sits, filled with some precious items I wanted close to me. Too priceless to let travel in a box without me.
Slinging the bag over my shoulder, I left the room and headed downstairs. The smell of Mrs. Martha's big country breakfast filled the air, and my stomach rumbled just from the scent as I rushed in. Quickly grabbing a plate of food, loading it with bacon, eggs, and pancakes, almost missing the sound of Martha's soft chuckle.
“My, you must be hungry, child. Clark was like that when he was a youngster.” Side-eyeing Kal for a second, seeing as his plates were filled to the brim with food like a mountain.
“Was?” I questioned, amused by the glare he gave me in response
“Haha, very funny.”
Smirking as I munched down on the food on my plate, I felt normal and peaceful, almost as I finished the last morsel of food, grabbing the dirty dish before Mrs. Kent's frail hands could. I smiled as I watched her get huffy like a grandma wanting to spoil the grandkids.
Dipping the dish in the warm, crisp sink water as I scrub the sticky syrup and the slight grease of the meat. Lost in the quiet of my mind, which will soon be filled with wild, loud thoughts. Ones that are hard to scrub and wash away with a single cleanse.
“That was great as always, ma. But I think it's time for (y/n) and me to get going. It's a long flight to Nevada.” Ah, right, I almost forgot I had to leave in that short time. My shoulders slumped over in imaginary exhaustion from sitting in a car for 19 hours or carrying a big U-Haul truck above our heads to Nevada.
“Well, before you two go, I want to give (y/n) something; come with me, dear.” Martha gently grabbed my hand, walking us to a room-separated room, in ‘private,’ hopeful Kal won't peek in or listen from far away. Perking an eyebrow as I watch Martha walk to her closet and pull out a white box.
Those same ones you would find in clothing stores to box clothes up as a gift. I squinted, trying to sneak a peek with an X-ray, but Mrs. Kent was smart, for she covered whatever it was inside with lead. I let my body relax as I watched her hold the box to her chest before walking back to me.
“I made this for you with a special material I had to get from 'higher up.' I hope you like it.” She finished the sentence by slowly giving me the box and grabbing it from her hands. I was stopped just as I was about to slip the lid off.
“Don't open it here, dear. Clark will be upset if he knows.”
“Why, what is it?”
She only smiled at me with a mischievous glint. “You'll know, now go before he gets suspicious.”
Smiling with a slight chuckle, I walked out of the room with the box close to my chest till I got to my bag and shoved it in there, trying not to break anything as I rushed out the door. Kal standing under the sun, hands on his hips, waiting as I leap off the porch. Bag on my back, trying to avoid the glance he gave to my bag.
Looking around the yard, porch, even where they park the trucks, “Where's my stuff?”
“I took your stuff over there yesterday and last night.”
“So, how are we going to get there?”
A smirk was all I was given as he hovered off the ground, extending a hand to me with a big smile that matched mine.
•☽────✧˖°˖☆˖°˖✧────☾•
“Wooooohooooo!!!”
The wind in my hair, the wind messing with my clothes as I fly in the clouds, Kal just laughing in the background. The feeling may be fleeting, but it was freeing. Holding on to the straps that hugged my Shoulders tight as I did little Twirls in the sky, playing with the clouds.
“Careful now, don't want to drop anything.” I just rolled my eyes, wanting to enjoy the feeling of flying; I'm delighted I could do this. It took me off the pain of having to move from the pain of the past. At least for now, I can just enjoy the moment. Closing my eyes, just letting my body flow with the current wind, as I felt the back of my shirt get lifted up in a tight grip, pulling my whole body upwards.
“Hey!”
“You're sinking past the clouds; stay hidden.” Rolling my eyes and huffing as I fly beside him, irritated, but I wasn't going to let that change my mood. In fact, I'm starting to change my mind about this whole move. Maybe this will be great. I'll probably get away with a lot of stuff I couldn't on the Kent Farm.
I looked down at the ground and saw a sign: ‘Welcome to Jasper, Nevada.’ Just as the smile on my face slowly dimmed a little, Grimacing as I saw the town small and just as Bleak as Smallville.
Oh God, is this going to be as bad as Smallville? There's barely anything to do here. But what did I expect? It's a small town in a desert area. Irritation turned into mischievous thoughts. Then that meant I could use my powers without Kal watching over me like a hawk and telling me no. I love you, cousin, but this move went from the Worst thing to happen to the best thing!
Town buildings got few until we flew over nothing but sand. It was an hour till we reached some vegetation and farmland.
Hovering above extensive farmland. With cattle and other animals, the garden is lush with life and vegetation. Like a giant monopoly, they must be the town's primary food source. Hopefully, my room will be big.
“Alright, we're here.”

part 2
I huffed as I was now hovering over the city, away from the damn robot or whatever it was. Tucking some hair behind my ear and out of my eyes as I slowly started to land in a covered area of the town, searching through my bag to pull out a pair of glasses for some form of disguise. Before stepping away from the shadows, strutting down the pavement.
Wanting to look more casual, my hands fiddle with my shirt and shorts before tossing my hair. With each step in the town, my eyes wander and move, taking in the sight of the quiet town before raising an eyebrow. There is no evidence of Justice League merchandise, just dull, outdated technology and boring-looking buildings.
“This doesn't feel right. No, I'm not on the same earth,” I muttered to myself, hoping I didn't look like a lunatic as I walked further into the small town's wasteland. My figure slows down to a complete stop in the middle of the street as I see an ad for a flip phone.
“Yeah, different earth,” a sigh left my lips. I just stood there, closing my eyes, taking in the silence as I tried to think of what to do next. The quiet was almost calm, relaxing even.
Until a beautiful Cherry red Auston Martin rams into my back, almost causing me to trip.
“AUGH!” I grunted, my right foot moving forward, stomping down on the pigment, a decent dent in the pavement, catching my fall as I looked back and saw the car was wrecked, the hood dented and damaged, the glass cracked and shattered under the sheer force of the collision.
The owner would be lucky if the engine wasn't obliterated.
Rage and annoyance rushed through my veins as my face twisted, lips forming to yell, only to see that there was no driver, only the loud, obnoxious sound of the car engine revving as if the vehicle itself was alive and pissed off.
I watched as the car drove back slightly. Its metallic form started to shift and move in unnatural ways. It didn't take long for him to stand tall and proud, but his ego was crushed.
Now, in his robotic form, claw-like talons trimble, hovering over his devastated chest plates.
“Well shit”
“Look at what you did! Do you know how long it will take to fix this? " he shouted out, his voice deep yet preppy.
I didn't want to deal with this nor get in a fight in the middle of the town as I watched him pull out an electric spear. I quickly jumped out of the way as the loud crash of the spear hit the cement. I'm giving myself the green light to fly out of the situation.
Now, I tossed my glasses several feet in the air, watching them fall. Completely giving up the half-assed Disguise idea as I watched the bot throw a hissy fit on the earth before Transforming and driving away.
Taking a deep breath, I let the wind blow through my hair and around my body, playing with the clouds as I move around in the sky with a soft smile on my face. It's been a while since I actually flew. I embrace myself like I don't have to hide anymore.
Flying a little closer to the earth, floating over a school without giving it a spare glance before flying into the wooded area.
I was completely oblivious to the pink flip phone taking pictures and slightly grainy pixel videos of a flying person in the sky.
“Everyone's gonna freak when I show them!” Explain excitedly as her hot pink highlighted hair was tied up slightly into two pom pom bobs.
She hears a honk emanating from a dark green military-style car, followed by a Camaro and a sleek motorcycle.

part 3
The small pink flip phone, which looked like a Polly pocket toy compared to the Cybertronian-sized computer it was hooked onto. A pixelated video of the human-looking girl floating and twirling in the sky played on repeat. The clip was baffling, to say the least.
“It was so cool how she was flipping around in the sky! I wish I got a cleaner vid of her.”
“But how? Could she have been experimented on by MECH?”
Jack asked as he leaned against the bar railing to get a closer look. Not wanting to tear his eyes away from the video.
Ratchet's audio fins twitched ever so slightly as his Optics scene and tried to decipher what he was seeing.
“It's possible, however,” he paused, turning away from the screen. “Why would MECH do human experimentation?”
Each Autobot in the base had their thoughts on the situation, but it all summed up in one cohesive thought: ‘Is she a friend or foe?’. Loud thumping of Optimus pedes rumbled against the walls as he walked closer to the green-tinted screen. Optics trying to calculate an answer in his processor. He didn't know much about the human species, but the knowledge he did have. This was not possible.
“knowing MECH, I would not look past them for experimenting on their own kind.”
Optimus's crystal blue optics never left the screen as the gears in his processor were turning fast to form a single sentence.
“Autobots keep an optic out at all times until we are certain she's not a threat to life on this planet.”
There was a small trickle of Silence before he turned to look at the rest of his team.
“Autobots, roll out.”

In the forest of nearby Jasper, my body was floating ever so slightly as if I were in a lazy river. I was just basking in the feeling of the sun on my skin, a soft smile spreading across my lips. I was just floating without a care in the world. There was no need to rush back home to fix my boom tube remote.
Floating towards some old, abandoned mine, I lifted my hand to rub a surprisingly smooth rock near the entrance. I huffed out, absolutely enjoying the tranquil quiet until I heard that agonizingly grating voice.
“Buzz!”
Eyes snap open as I turn, almost giving myself whiplash from the speed to stare the bot down. Comfort and calm replaced by pure annoyance.
“Ugh!”
(Sorry, it took me so long to upload this. First, it was a series of back-to-back exams, and then I just didn't have the inspiration to finish this part. It's just so hard to try and write them as accurately as possible for me. Anyway, I hope you like it!)

𝓘 𝔀𝓪𝓼 𝓵𝓮𝓯𝓽 𝓽𝓸 𝓶𝔂 𝓸𝔀𝓷 𝓭𝓮𝓿𝓲𝓬𝓮𝓼
Kal’s words went in one ear and out the other. My attention was glued to the few cows I hovered over. Their big, beady brown eyes and jaws move as they chew on grass and angle their heads closer to the sky at me, curious as to why I was there, trying to take a sniff.
“(y/n)!”
“Huh?!” My head whipped around to see Kal standing on the ground, arms crossed against his shoulders as he pushed up his fake glasses.
“Come on, we do not want to keep them waiting.”
“Oh yeah, right,” I muttered, floating away from the cows to the dirt road as I jogged after him on the driveway. Taking the time to enjoy the scenery a bit more before checking out what the house looked like from inside. I only caught up to him and stepped onto their wooden porch. I watched as he knocked on the door, and we waited.
I fidget with my hands, looking at Everything that wasn't the door, giving me time to inspect the house I will live in for a while. It was nice. It was painted a bright lemon yellow with a warm beige roof and white trim on the doors and windows. The two-story house could be three, depending on how big the attic looks on the outside.
Just as I was about to wander to the side, the front door opened to reveal a light olive-skinned woman in her mid-40s. She had blonde hair, slightly greying at the roots, and blue eyes. She was a little chubbier and was wearing a cute Farm dress.
“Oh, you made it—” she gasped dramatically, walking towards me, grabbing my face and squishing my cheeks together. “Oh, just look at you! So precious! We are so excited to have you here. I hope you can see us as your next ma and Pa because we already see you as a daughter.”
I side-eyed Kal before I looked back at her again. “Uh, yeah,” was the best I could say as I felt her take her hands off my face and start to guide us into her house. She came off a little too strong for my liking and way too eager to be called ‘ma and pa.’ A title I'm not even close to ready to give out for free.
The house is cute, though, with floral wallpaper and cluttered walls. But the furniture and appliances look top-of-the-line. Yeah, they definitely have money to spend. It's just those two; I see no pictures of grandkids or even kids in general. So that's why she desperately wants me to be her daughter.
“With your cousin's help, we made up your room in the attic. He said you would have loved the 'vibe' of it.” Her words seemed to knock me out of my thoughts. I nodded in acknowledgment and hummed, looking up at the staircase as Mrs. Eliza and Kal returned to talking before clearing my throat a little, breaking the small talk between them.
“Well, actually, I was thinking of exploring the town a little bit, you know, seeing how far I need to get from here to the school,” I spoke up, awkward but confident, as I looked between Kal and my new guardian, Eliza. Kal looked at me with a straight face as if in deep thought, only to hear Eliza's hands clapping for the smile brimming on her face.
“Oh, that's a great idea. You'll need to know how to get around the area. Oh, why don't you go with her, Clark? At least to the town. A few more moments of cousin bonding before you return to the metropolis!” Eliza exclaimed, almost excited for me to explore. “And while you're gone, I can clean up your room a little bit more and make you something to eat,” she started to spew on as I gently set my backpack down next to a coat rack, taking my phone out. When I stood up, I was suddenly pushed out of the front door with Kal in a hurry.
Looking back at her, she waved goodbye like we were leaving for school and closed the door behind us. Kal and I side-eyed each other before he rubbed the bridge of his nose, exhaling with the tiniest of smiles.
“Well, we better start walking,” he said with a cheery voice as if he wasn't going through a tired dad meltdown a second ago. I watched him walk away as I stared at the back of his head with a perplexed face before rolling my eyes and jogging behind him.
•☽────✧˖°˖☆˖°˖✧────☾•
“Ugh.” That was the 10th groan I let out on a 30-minute walk, and we still haven't reached the town. I can tell that all my moaning and whining were getting on his nerves. The fact that made me smile like a kid, wanting him to give in so we could just fly or run to town. I returned to throwing my head to the side as I was about to grow again, only to be stopped by his voice.
“I know what you're doing, and it's no.”
"That's not fair. We flew all the way here. It's going to take a century to get into this town!"
"Actually, it will take two hours and thirty minutes,” He said as if it was nothing.
Immediately, I stopped in my tracks and stared at the back of his head, eyes almost blown out of their sockets as my hands went through my hair. He probably could hear that I had stopped walking as he turned around and raised an eyebrow at me, the wind running between us.
“You're joking about that time, right? Why can't we just run or fly to town? It's the best Time Saver!” My voice danced through the trees that were fewer and fewer with each step we took, starting to transform from a luscious Greenery to an Orange sandy desert. I hear him sigh through his nose, his hand running through his hair before he turns to look at me.
“Tell me exactly what you can control, and then I'll think about it.”
“flight, super speed, X-ray vision, and super hearing," I said with a smirk, only to falter when Kal made an error buzzer noise from his mouth.
“EEEH! Wrong, your hearing will go haywire when you go to school.”
“Okay, so three.” I puff out my chest as my shoulders slump over, tired of this conversation. "It's still enough to get to the town.”
“That's not the point-”
“Then what is and don't say to keep my powers in line because Ms Kent said that you use your powers all the time to get to school.”
His mouth opened to counterattack, but closed again, checkmate. He was right where I wanted him. I watched his shoulders slump down in defeat before he gave me a gentle smile. “Okay, you got me there. It doesn't hurt to use your abilities, and they get to places.”
“Race you there!” he quickly said as he turned around and started running towards the town, at light speed, sending sand in the air.
“No fair!” I said, running after him, leaving behind my own sandstorm.
•☽────✧˖°˖☆˖°˖✧────☾•
The Run couldn't have lasted longer than 10 seconds as my vans scraped on the sandy, hard ground. I could have run past the town and into a new state if it wasn't for Kal's arm stretched out, hitting against my chest like a parent scared of a child flying out the car window.
“Ugh!” grunting as I doubled over on his arm, hair flailing about and covering my face like a veil, the impact knocking the wind out of my lungs.
“You need to pay more attention, you could have revealed yourself” I rolled my eyes as I pushed The hair out of my face and pulling away from his arm fixing my clothes I can hear him in the background trying to lecture me as I just block out the noise looking around the town barely trees uncomfortably warm but it's kind of cute almost cozy.
My eyes scanned around, seeing that we were behind a building, convenient that running this way sent us to some form of privacy. My feet moved without any thought about walking onto the sidewalk, hands behind my back, ready to use his credit card, waiting patiently in his wallet. Wandering off to explore just to get yanked back.
Kal’s slightly stern gaze locked into my bored, annoyed eyes. No matter how tired I was of this need to lecture and teach me, I didn't cause a scene when he yanked me closer to him as if making sure we couldn't be heard from behind the building.
“Remember, in public don't-”
“Yes, yes, I know. Don't use my powers; I'm not a kid, Kal,” I interrupted his sentence with a twang of annoyance.
”And call me Clark in public.” The silence between us was intense and tense. If one wrong word was said between us, it could start an argument. Yet somehow, the air slowly eased into a comforting, reassuring feeling as his eyes softened and his body relaxed. Like he was proud, I watched him dig into his pocket to pull out his wallet, and out came a credit card. His lips curved in a slight smirk as he handed me the card.
“This is your card. I got it made and filled with," he paused, an action that caused me to raise a brow, "help from a good friend." He made a hand motion at my back pocket, making me pull my phone out from the back pocket of my shorts and hand it to him. I leaned in to see him download a bank app, add my account, and then gave it back to me.
"holy shit, 50,000?! Who did you rob?!"
"I didn't rob anybody; it's an allowance from a good friend of mine. To keep getting this big of an allowance, you need to get good grades, and these are his words: 'Don't do anything to make him come after you.'" I did not like how his 'friend' practically thinks im some criminal struggling to reform, but I did love the money. It must be some rich dude cuz Kal could never with his reporter job. The thought banged in my mind as I stuffed the card in my front pocket.
"Sounds easy enough," I said while searching through the bank app to find my username and password. Thumbs rush on the screen to change them. My response made him roll his eyes and chuckle softly before patting my head, my eyes looking up at him.
“Well, I'd better get going; I have work tomorrow. I trust that you can find yourself around," removing his hand from my head, leaving my hair ruffled and messy, much to my chagrin. He was about to return to the Danvers, only to stop and turn back to me after digging into his pocket. "Oh, almost forgot, you have to keep these on; your eyes are still sensitive," he rushed out. My vision blurred for a millisecond as he pushed glasses on my face.
I hated these glasses, but I understand why I had to keep them on. My eyesight was too strong and overstimulating until it was controlled. It was one of the many things Kal drilled into my head when I first arrived. I pushed up my glasses as my facial muscles softened at him.
"I'll miss you, Kal," I whispered to him, making him pull me into a hug.
"Be strong for me, (y/n). I'll visit when I can, okay?"
"Okay, I will." The hug lasted a little bit longer before we both pulled away, and I stood there, watching him walk back down the dirt road to the farm. No doubt, going to give a prep talk to my new guardians. I waited till he was out of sight before I turned to walk around the building to face the not-so-busy street.
The sun sitting on my skin made me smile and close my eyes, just soaking in the rays, the best feeling in the world, from the snuggling warmth to the energizing feeling that was so addictive. My awareness deteriorated as I was frozen in the moment. Eyes slowly peel open, staring at the sky, finally prepared to navigate this adventure alone. Abruptly turning away from the sun to walk down the sidewalk, only to bump into some stranger. The force of our bodies colliding made the person fall to the concrete ground with a painful grunt.
“Ow! Watch where you're going!” shouted the feminine voice.

𝓘'𝓵𝓵 𝓫𝓮 𝓼𝓲𝓷𝓰𝓲𝓷𝓰 𝓽𝓸 𝓽𝓱𝓮 𝓶𝓸𝓸𝓷
Smallville was small and boring, yet, for the past month, it was the only thing I had to call home ever since my real home was lost to me. I can still remember it like it was yesterday. So being told by Kal that I was moving to Jasper, Nevada, to live with the Danvers for ‘the safety of ma, pa, and you’ was life-shattering; I just got connected with my cousin again, learning only a handful of the earth customs and now I'm being separated from him again? It's already bad enough that the baby I held in my arms, babysat, and changed diapers is already about to be in his 30s while I'm stuck being 18.
I shook my head, wanting to shake all the negative thoughts out of my Mind, as I brought my hands up, wiping the tears that threatened to fall. While begrudgingly walking around the barren room grabbing the last bit of my clothes and stuffing them into the moving box. My hands slightly shake while grabbing the tape only to hear a knock on the door, eyes moving upwards to see who was entering my room.
“(Y/n), are you doing okay?” The warm, familiar voice rang in my ears as Kal walked inside, closing the door behind him. “I heard sniffling all the way from the barn; I just wanted to check up.”
Glancing away, not wanting to see him eye to eye, gripping the box's wings, Fingers breaking through the thick cardboard, damaging the box, making it hard to close for later on. “Fine, im fine.”
Lying through my teeth, my bottom lip quivering as I tried to hide the combination of emotions that boiled inside. Anger, sadness, frustration, a swirl of thoughts and feelings form inside me, waiting to explode. There is silence between us, a long, agonizingly quiet silence that would make even a monk feel awkward.
It's getting harder and harder to calm my breathing down and try not to let the stinging of my tear ducts fall like a broken down. The top row of teeth dig into my bottom lip, trying to keep my mouth shut, afraid to let out a cry or a burst of regrettable anger.
Every second that ticked by felt like an eternity. Neither of us spoke nor made coherent eye contact, so I closed my eyes, hoping that he would walk out so I could vent my anger and cry or something. Only to feel muscular arms wrapping around my back, pressing my face against Kal's chest. One hand rubbed my back while the other moved to my head, gently petting it. He didn't have to speak. He was clearly trying to comfort me, letting my head rest against him.
“Why can't I stay? I can fight, protect Mr. and Mrs. Kent. It's not fair that I have to leave; I just reunited with you,” my voice muttered. I felt small as I moved my head upwards. Red irritated eyes met his sad but stern gaze, which slowly turned soft before he let out a sigh.
“It's not that simple, (Y/n). I know you can fight, and you're strong. But you're just not ready for what comes with the title of hero, not ready to face society.” My lips twisted downwards in a scowl, my eyebrows pinched. Of course, he still sees me as some kid.
“I'm 18 years old, Kal. Mrs. Kent said you were younger than me when you started fighting crime.”
“I understand you want to do good, protect the innocent, and do what I do for the world, but you can barely control your powers or emotions. That's a dangerous combination; you've only been on Earth for two months. You need to be more.” He never finished his sentence; what he wanted me to be is clear. He wanted me to be like him, human. Pulling myself away from him as I stared at the ground, silence shrouded around us once more, only for him to try to change the mood by switching topics.
“The Danvers are nice people; in fact, Mrs. Danvers, Aunt Eliza, is Ma's sister. So, being adopted by them, you would technically be my cousin on paper.” The last set of words he spoke made my eyebrow twitch before I glared at him. I wanted to argue over what he said, but I just let it go. Starting a fight wouldn't get me out of moving.
“I guess, but Nevada? 19 hours away?” The question was answered with a reassuring smile as he picked up my Damaged box with clothes.
“It may be far, but I promise you we won't lose touch.” It was the end of our conversation as he opened the door and walked out of my room. I close the door behind him, walk back, and lie on the bed, staring at the ceiling. All I can do is wait till the night is over and face the troublesome thought of tomorrow.
