One of the first patterns I created for @mccallpatterncompany was M7218 based on my original Empyrean Eyes Peacock costume! It came out in 2015 and I beam every time I see someone in a costume made with it! It’s a very personal costume that I made back in 2008 (omg) after dreaming about owning a Peacock gown for a long time. I had to save up for good materials and be so careful sewing the taffeta as well as gluing on the feathers. The bolero+bodice+mermaid skirt look is peak 2008 Yaya ✨👌. I have quite literally taken this Peacock around the world to events! Over time, the taffeta began to pull apart at the seams from repeated wear and the costume is retired. I still have it though, for sentimental reasons and with the hope that one day I can showcase my cosplay journey in a costume exhibition. I have 20+ years of costumes archived and it would be so cool to stroll through and see how materials and techniques in cosplay have evolved over two decades! Things I have learned while making this body suit. 1- Yaya Han makes awesome patterns that you can customize to fit your body. 2- her fabric is equally amazing to sew with. 3- I learned to make a butt. Throwback to one of my past pattern designs for the @mccallpatterncompany! I went for a fantasy theme with garment elements that could easily be altered for a variety of costumes. I especially love short boleros with giant sleeves, and in fact wanted these sleeves to be even bigger but they wouldn’t have fit in the pattern envelope 😆. Ta-dadaddaaaaaaaa~~~~!!!! Trevor Belmont!! I just have to shorten the sleeves and add a clip in the front and the coat is 100% done!!!! I have learned some new techniques working on this thing. Liners are still evil! Velvet is soft and not easy to work with. It slips through the machine. I used @yayahan ‘s trench coat pattern for the base and The sleeves are from a different pattern because I couldn’t figure out her pattern for the life of me. But no worries because it still came together. The collars are totally made up. I had a coworker print out a larger scaled picture to my size and I drew it out on newsprint. So after lots of sewing, stabbing of pins, swearing, having that “hahaha it’s so beautiful” moment. Coat is together. Now on to armor bits. I designed M7765 as a Far East inspired fantasy ensemble consistent of a short bolero with kimono sleeves, a halter dress with slashed seams, and an underskirt.
