Behind every immortal god-king is an overworked, dead-eyed advisor who desperately needs a break. This is Yehennis!! He was a minister of economics before he got volunteered to be Azurifel's new personal advisor, and he has not known peace since.

League Night 1-6-18
Winter Split HYPE!
Some announcements!
New rule and a rule deletion and a rule update:
Scoop is now at Sorcery speed! Scooping we found at instant speed often times took points and wins away from people. Let’s face it, sometimes you use people as buffers or need to keep them around long enough on your turn to win the game, this is why we added this rule in.
No more bonus points for Commander Damage kills, it made no real impact last season so we’re just doing away with it.
-1 Point if you do not cast your Commander at all in a game. The point is to use your Commander along with its colors to take a win. The Commander is an asset; it should be used. If you are locked out by Tanglewire the whole game or something similar and you cannot cast your Commander or even if you get horribly mana screwed, this will not count against you. We are not monsters.
I realize that the ‘scoop at sorcery speed’ makes it seem like you can’t quit a game whenever you want to. You still can, it’s just that in the spirit of the game and for the benefit of good sportsmanship, we ask that you would at least give the ruling a chance. It would have been awesome to see a tie breaker game last season! Maybe it’ll still happen this season. We’ll find out!
Thanks.
The NEW Winter split trophy card is:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Yes.. yes... It’s hideous, bad, and green. It covers all the Forest criterion. But it’ll look awesome as a trophy! :D
Also, I just checked the mail as of 11:41 AM on 1/10/18 and Steven’s trophy is STILL on it’s way... it’s just slow. So eventually!
And now to this past weeks games!
Commanders:
2 Maga Traitor to Mortals  2 Titania, Protector of Argoth 2 Kaervek the Merciless 2 Selvala, Explorer Returned 2 Kruphix, God of Horizons 1 Mayael the Anima 1 Riku of Two Reflections 1 Surrak Dragonclaw 1 Yahenni, Undying Partisan 1 Mirko Vosk, Mind Drinker 1 Daretti, Scrap Savant 1 Sek'Kuar, Deathkeeper 1 Karametra, God of Harvests
Color Wheel:

32.50% Green 27.50% Black 17.50% Red 12.50% Blue 10.00% White

WOW! That’s a lot of commanders!
Pod 1 Game 1
Mr. Mike - Maga Traitor to Mortals Kevin - Mayael the Anima Steven - Titania, Protector of Argoth Jonathan - Riku of Two Reflections
Well, we originally thought our game was long, (the game below) but this game took longer than ours. There was apparently a lot of back and forth, Riku is a very cool deck, I hadn’t seen one like that one in particular and with the ramp of the other three decks it must have been a hard match up.
Mr. Mike was eliminated first, finally, after about an hour long game, then Jonathan and Kevin, giving Steven the win in that pod.
Pod 2 Game 1
Patrick - Kruphix, God of Horizons Baker - Selvala, Explorer Returned Logan - Kaervek the Merciless Billy - Surrak Dragonclaw
Ahhhh, there’s nothing scarier than being in a pod with a hate style deck and two combo decks!
Things started out amazing for everyone but me (Surrak) with my wittle land only drop. Everyone else had some gas though.
I managed to Stubborn Denial (for 1) Selvala turn 2 to stall it a bit, and turn 4 Patrick saved the game by counterspelling Paradox Engine. Logan had got out a Scab Clan Berserker early in game and that thing did not die the WHOLE GAME. It did work.
After we stalled Selvala a bit, Patrick became a big threat with big mana, so I started smashing into him with Ulamog trying to get his combo piece.... 40 cards milled and NONE were combo pieces!
So as I feared, Patrick was able to draw into his awesomeness.
With a timely Show and Tell he was able to get out Omniscience and cast Enter the Infinite, he goes down to 4 life thanks to Scab Clan, I had a Borborygmos Enraged out with one land in hand. (Bory is now my favorite card in Surrak.) Patrick empties his library to get his kill con, which is mainly Lab Maniac, he cast the maniac, draws final card, I bolt the maniac and he unfortuantely loses in a grand fashion. Had he had Voidslime or Stifle in his deck, he would have won. It was a pretty intense point of our game there.
Tumblr media
Next we put out Baker for third with some simple swings. Leaving just Logan and I.
Had Logan been pinging me with Kaervek from the beginning instead of my 5/5 wurms and such I would have died much sooner, I did take 10 to the face thanks to my Ulamog though as I made Kaervek one of my targets.
There was a bit of a kill creature/counter war with Mystic Snakes and Sneak Attack shenaneggins, but eventually Surrak ran out of gas and the Kaervek threats were just too large...  Sunbird's Invocation also just made Kaervek even meaner stacking Gearhulks for the final push.
Pod 2 Game 1
Patrick - Kruphix, God of Horizons Jonathan - Yahenni, Undying Partisan Logan - Kaervek the Merciless Aaron - Mirko Vosk, Mind Drinker
Who likes to be milled? Yeah, me either, Mirko met his end pretty fast even though he did mill a good bit. Logan with Kaervek was worried about getting smashed by Yaheeni ( I don’t blame him, I’ve been hit by a huge Yehenni before and it’s pretty mean), so he put out Jonathan next. It came down to Logan and Patrick with a pretty substantial board for both players.
Eventually Patrick drew into Expropriate and then another turns card and was able to play those 2 extra turns out to grab him the win over the Rakdos deck.
It was pretty intense to watch and Logan had Patrick worried the whole time because he wasn’t worried much about the outcome. MIND GAMES!
Pod 2 Game 2
Steven - Titania, Protector of Argoth Kevin - Karametra, God of Harvests Mr. Mike - Maga Traitor to Mortals
Kevin wasn’t sure what to play so he gave my Karametra Stax deck a whirl to see how it would go. I had just made that deck that day, so yolo?
Early in the game Mr. Mike bubbling mucked to Sadistic Sacrament Steven for 15 CARDS!
Needless to say that pretty much left Steven with only elementals to make from Titania to beat with and win and that was it.
Eventually as the game wore on with Kevin a heavy board state, Rest in Peace was played and that pretty much shut down Titania all together. Steven was dispatched with Father/Son powers combined (sorry!) and then Mr. Mike. fell to Karametra shortly after.
Pod 2 Game 3
Baker - Selvala, Explorer Returned Billy - Sek'Kuar, Deathkeeper James - Daretti, Scrap Savant
Game went like this, everyone had mana rocks and gas.... except for Sek. Tanglewire was played, which meant I did nothing for the next 3 turns. The game was basically between Baker and James and Baker just ended up getting more mana and card draw than James did and eventually went off. I died to Aetherflux Resevoir, because he had to kill me before I Nature’s Claimed the Paradox Engine and then James died to the Aetherflux shortly after.
Points!
Kevin - 9 Points Logan - 9 Points Steven - 8 Points Baker - 8 Points Patrick - 7 Points Billy - 7 Points Jonathan - 6 Points Mr. Mike - 6 Points James - 4 Points (one match) Aaron - 2 Points (one match)
OVERALL POINTS:
Kevin - 9 Points Logan - 9 Points Steven - 8 Points Baker - 8 Points Patrick - 7 Points Billy - 7 Points Jonathan - 6 Points Mr. Mike - 6 Points Dustin - 5 Points (invoking missed weekend clause) Taylor - 5 Points (invoking missed weekend clause) Tim - 5 Points (invoking missed weekend clause) Rachel - 5 Points (invoking missed weekend clause) James - 4 Points Aaron - 2 Points
Alright! So things started off pretty awesome, 10 people playing and the games were all pretty fun. We’ll try to roll Steven OUT of Mr. Mikes pod next time xD

Was Yehenni a woman before it was decided the Aetherborn are genderless? I ask because you've called them "her" a couple times.
Any use of a gendered pronoun is just a mistake on my part.

I'm having too much fun writing Yehennis' intro chapter, so take these clips and this bonus doodle.
(btw, it might look like one block of text on desktop, but it's 3 separate paragraphs that aren't contiguous)

I just wanna see which story/characters people are more interested in. Also, it should be assumed, but Don't vote if you aren't following me???
Porcelain King: Azurifel, Yehennis, Laurel, assorted rift lords. Focused on Azurifel, an immortal with many issues. You know him, you love him, he's awful. Very character-driven, so if you pick this option, you can expect more fancy character art, character ramblings,, and short silly comics
Ragtaggers: Kip & Mare, Owl, Michelline, assorted venture teams. Child adventurers in a world where day and night are frozen. My best feat of worldbuilding, so this option will get you bios and art of other teams, lots of rambling about different worldbuilding elements, and I'll even push myself to draw settings
Dusk and Norvori: Dusk....and Norvori. LOL it's just them. Two inseparable hooligans make a wild bid for freedom. You will get me drawing a lot of them, maybe some redraws of old pieces, might try and draw some urban settings, probably some funny short comic stuff
You can also hit up the tags for more info or a refresher on what any of this means, if you need that

and a lil bonus or whatever--the study sketch that became yehennis' face. I'm still trying to get a grip on the planes of the face, especially trying to figure out how to place the eyes in 3d, so I just gotta practice

Airports are kind of a weird liminal space; what would your oc's be doing if they were stuck in one for 13 hours overnight?
Ahhh rach coming in with the BLORBO PROMPT!! Well well well, let's see what the main squad gets up to!
Dusk and Norvori, I could totally see this happening to them. They travel so much after all, and make do with whatever they can get! They'd roll with the punches easily Norvori would get way too anxious in an airport, all the people and the constant noise and movement, so he'd probably retreat into shadow form and just follow Dusk around from the floor (also don't have to buy a plane ticket for him that way LOL). And dusk? That girl can sleep ANYWHERE, on rocks or in trees, she has no problem passing out on the airport floor somewhere for a good solid nap!! It's also cute to imagine Norvori guarding their stuff from the shadows, no one can steal it while he's there! If they have the chance, I bet they'd leave for a while to go check out the city and get some fresh air, and Dusk would prolly set up to busk for some food money
Anarion I think could handle it decently well, he's very polite (perhaps too polite, he puts up with too much) so he'll be chill about it! But he doesn't really know how hotels and stuff work so he can't get himself a place to stay, and his hypervigilance won't let him sleep in a place like an airport, so he's gonna be up alllll night, just pacing around unless he's got a book or something to distract him. Once he gets wherever he was trying to go
Azur, on the other hand, would NOT be having it. We're going modern au Azur here of course, and that guy is used to private jets when he has to fly—so to put him on a normal plane? And then DELAY it? OVERNIGHT?? He would be SPITTING mad, and he only gets more and more grouchy the more tired he gets!! Once he passes the threshold of his dignity he is making a SCENE, he is throwing money and threats around, he is calling Yehennis and making HIM complain on his behalf too!! Poor Laurel, she's so embarrassed. Eventually she'll persuade him to just get them a hotel room, but he is gonna be SO sulky about it

HI EMMA HI EMMA was thinking about ur ocs. Would love 2 hear more about the porcelain king.... 👀
HI POKE!! Sorry for the delay, I've been out of town so I haven't been on Tumblr too much, but I'm always DELIGHTED to answer oc questions!!
Porcelain King is Azurifel's story! It's the first book in the Alora chronicles, which is a series about the universe of Alora and its pantheon of god-like forces of nature, called rift lords. The premise of Porcelain King is based in the idea of taking the big villain of a high fantasy story and telling the story from their perspective, but without trying to redeem or excuse them. It's more of a deep-dive into the psychology and motive of what would drive a person to act like that.
PK is divided into three acts, basically. Because it's been what I'm writing currently, I've mostly been drawing and talking to you guys about act 1, in which Azurifel is still an apprentice rift lord under Icellus and has become dissatisfied and resentful, and his plans to undermine and bring down the council of rift lords so he can make his escape. Involves characters such as Icellus, Miriae, and Thalara.
Act 2 follows Azur after his exit, in which he finds a human kingdom and decides to organize a coup and instate himself as their new king. He builds his Veynon Empire, becomes known as the porcelain king, gets better in some ways and worse in others, and falls in love with a human. But when it looks like he's getting better as a person, his choices from act 1 come back to bite him in the butt and he goes totally off the deep end. Involves characters such as Laurel and Yehennis.
Act 3 is very spoiler-heavy, so there isn't much I can say in detail, but basically Azur has a massive breakdown for several thousand years and tries to destroy everything. Wheeee! Involves characters such as Lazuli and Selena.
Lemme give you a fun fact to ease off all that plot soup: before Azurifel became a rift lord, he was human, and he was the 7th of eight children in his family!

Just wanted to drop by and say that I’m sorry for the stress you are experiencing at college. Hope things slow down for you and you get to have a break soon!
If I may, can I ask about general information about your OCs and the story, the Porcelain King, I believe it is call? (It can be just even rambles about characters and stuff if you don’t want to get into it all). The character(s) look really cool! Hope you have a good day!
:,D thank you so much anon, that's so sweet of you!!
And ehehehe I'd LOVE to talk about my stories!! I love my characters so much, I could ramble on about em forever, it's literally my favorite thing ever LOL. In fact, I'm working today on revising a chapter of Porcelain King for class tomorrow, so perfect timing!
Lemme give you the basics to start, while trying to avoid spoiling the major storyline points. Porcelain King is the first installment in a fantasy series that takes place in a universe called Alora, where the forces of nature are sentient god-like beings called Rift Lords. The series focuses on the perspective of these Rift Lords, exploring the psychology and culture of immortals and their unique experiences with trauma, grief, memory, purpose, and so on.
Azurifel (he/him) is the star of Porcelain King, who begins the story as an apprentice to the god of nightmares. The book is all about his personal downward spiral due to his unwillingness to heal from trauma in his past and change his destructive habits, and the far-reaching effects this has on the world and everyone who cares about him. It's a pretty heavy story, honestly, and it deals with some very serious topics, but I really wanted to explore the psychology of a character who from any other perspective would be considered the villain—not to excuse their actions and be like "aw they're just misunderstood!", but to examine how easy it is, how human it is, to become set in unhealthy ideas and to go down the wrong path.
If you've ever seen the show Infinity Train (HIGHLY recommended!!), season 3 did a fantastic job of this with Simon. He's shown with all his likeable and good qualities right alongside his really bad and destructive ones, and though the audience is rooting for him to improve and redeem himself and he has plenty of chances to do so, it's his own choices to refuse to change that hurt Grace and Hazel and eventually lead to his own destruction. That's what I'm trying to do with Azurifel and Porcelain King, just on a larger scale.
Azurifel is a really, really fun character to write, too! He's funny and clever and charismatic, and his creativity and intelligence makes it really enjoyable to see him outwit other characters and solve problems. He's curious and driven and capable, this mans can literally do anything he sets his mind to, and he's got fantastic hair and a great sense of style, too. He's someone you really want to root for, who you really want to like, but he's also very, very deeply flawed (which is also very fun to write lol). He sabotages all his meaningful relationships, he lashes out at those who try to help him, he gets in the way of his own schemes by being impulsive and confrontational, and he's got a whole lot of unresolved hate balled up inside of him. That's not even to mention all the murders!
Basically, he's a problems man out here causing problems!
Other fun characters from the story include: Icellus, the god of nightmares who is totally overwhelmed trying to corral and train two apprentices who hate each other; Yehennis, Azurifel's long-suffering and sarcastic advisor from when he takes over a human kingdom; Thalara, the goddess of memory who owns a giant library and tells bad jokes; and Laurel, Azurifel's wife who has even cooler hair than he does and who he's madly in love with (until things go very, very wrong)
Thanks for letting me ramble, anon! I wanna draw and share more about these guys and this story here, from memes to serious art to character profiles, so hopefully I'll have more free time to make art soon! My "Porcelain King" tag should have all my previous and future posts about this particular story, and my "alora" tag will have everything from the series and it's related characters and world. And, uhh, if anyone would ever like to read the first couple chapters of the book, it's still a draft but I'd be happy to share!
