Hey folks, we'd like your opinions on the idea of Phic Phight being it's own server, instead of being part of the DP Fanfic server. We also have a google form so you guys can expand on your answer if you'd like, but also give us any general suggestions, comments or feedback related to the upcoming Phic Phight.

Under the readmore is just some detailed explanations as to why some of the changes.

What would happen if we made a Phic Phight server?

Phic Phight section of the DP fanfic server will be archived from general view. NOT DELETED. Archived. Six months will be given for people to collect what they want before it gets archived. However, you'd still be able to request temporary access at any time to look/get what you want/need.

Joining the discord will become mandatory for Phic Phight participants. You do not have to stay after Phic Phight, and you can be as active/inactive as you wish.

Better event organization information, since users will be pinged when prompts drop and any other important information. Everybody will get it at the same time.

Since it'd be it's own server, we'd be more willing to expand on and add specific features, channels and bots for Phic Phight events.

What if Phic Phight stayed within the DP Fanfic server?

Phic Phight participants will start taking on full responsibility for checking the Phic Phight tumblr in late March/early April for prompts. Mods will no longer be directly messaging them to people.

Related to the above, but no more extensions based on people not getting their prompts. Extensions will still be offered in situations such as mods releasing prompts late or other situations out of user/mod control that effects Phic Phight.

Not having to join yet another goddamn Danny Phantom discord server.

We will continue making updates and changes in-server as needed.

Why would discord membership be mandatory if we made our own server?

It makes it easier for the mods to coordinate everything and for users to communicate. We can more directly answer questions, clarify confusion, give everybody updates at the exact same time, dedicate our announcement spaces to only phic phight, etc. Users can better connect with their team as well and encourage each other.

A big part of Phic Phight is community, especially since more recent additions have made it a good idea to work with your team to help make sure all prompts are filled. Since we're currently attached to the fanfic server, it felt unfair to require membership, but as our own server, we would operate a bit more similarly to Invisobang. Specifically where we're encouraging more collaboration. We're writing phics for each other as well as for our own personal reasons.

What kind of changes would a Phic Phight server bring?

We'd be more willing to expand and add Phic Phight specific features as users and mods seem fit. Current ideas include:

More writing bots

More phic-phight specific channels to collaborate

Random number generators, so you can roll for a prompt or make decisions based on a randomized number

Hosting phic phight focused events, such as regular sprint nights

This is just the current thoughts, but we're open to more ideas within the google form!

This server would also, in general, make it a lot easier to get information strictly for Phic Phight.

Why are mods no longer going to be sending out prompts list? How will I get my prompts? Why no more extensions?

Phic Phight prompts and teams are always consistently released 2-3 days before April 1st, and Phic Phight always lasts the entire month of April. Meaning, you can expect prompts around March 31st at the LATEST. In recent years, they are always released both in the Fanfic server as well as our official tumblr. In the past, due to tumblr constantly changing how messaging works, general confusion and the amount of participants, it's become too difficult for mods to personally make sure everybody has their prompts list.

It wasn't too bad when we had 30 participants, but now we're often getting 100+ people. That's a lot of people to individually check got prompts. It's just becoming harder and harder to make sure everybody got their list, but since we consistently release them around the same time, we decided that regardless of whether we make a new server or not, it's now going to be YOUR responsibility to check for prompts around March 31st.

Having a server means that we'd just be @ everybody-ing when they drop, versus not having a server, where they will still be posted and pinged role, as well as tumblr. Regardless of whether we make a server or not, we will still post the prompts list to tumblr and have it pinned for easy viewing.

Related, we have extended deadlines if a lot of people did not get their prompts, due to the above mentioned tumblr problem. This change would mean that we basically will not be doing event-wide extensions anymore based on tumblr users getting prompts late, which had been a semi-common past problem. We will still offer extensions in events such as mods releasing prompts late or similar situations

Rachel did a live Q&A in the LO Discord server and gave some news about the Animated Series, it’s still happening! (Surprisingly) Any thoughts on that or things you’d like to see from it?

Right, like every other time she's said it's "still happening" with no evidence to actually support it. That's always been the issue and still is.

Sorry, that's not me being snarky at you, I'm more so frustrated and absolutely fucking done with all the empty promises and platitudes.

Best case scenario with what was said during the Q&A was that she said "it's still happening" (worst case was that she didn't address it at all).

Like, how is this:

She's been saying this for the last two years since people started getting suspicious it wasn't happening in the first place, and despite all the reassurances that "it's still happening", it doesn't seem to have anything to show for itself. Cast list? Nope. Director? Nope. Writers? Nah. Just a showrunner whose bio still says "TBA" and who, despite having a whole ass 40 minute long interview with Girl Wonder, still didn't have anything to show for what's to come, just more empty promises that it's "still happening" (and a lot of banter about Stephanie's life, rather than her involvement with LO).

In fact, most of what Stephanie talks about in the podcast concerning LO is pitching it, not developing it. And this interview happened just a few months ago. Go listen to it yourself if you don't believe me.

So at this point, I see "it's still happening" as "don't panic" corporate speak for "we're still pitching it and trying to find a network for it so we can actually move onto development." Yes, animation takes a long time, even Hazbin Hotel took about three and a half years to finally release after Prime bought the rights to it in 2020. But LO, again, clearly hasn't even started the animation process yet. And while we're comparing it to Hazbin, note that HH actually had LOADS to show for itself along the way of being developed and did a much, MUCH better job at staying relevant and pulling in new people and hyping it up. Even people who never watched Hazbin before in its indie days on Youtube were hearing about it, it made an active effort to sell itself to new viewers and break out of its bubble on Youtube. Is LO doing that? No, not really. Most of the people who know about it are diehard fans who refuse to read anything that isn't shown directly to them on Webtoons, and diehard haters who are tired of the garbage that gets advertised on Webtoons. Ask anyone who doesn't use Webtoons, and best case, they'll know someone who reads LO, worst case, they won't even know what a webtoon is.

Shit, even the new upcoming Zelda movie has names attached to it, including Avi Arad, Wes Ball, and Derek Connolly. And my god, it's gonna SUCK DICK with that bad of a line-up (the guy who ruined the OG Spiderman trilogy and created Morbius, the guy who directed the Maze Runner films, and one of the leading storywriters behind Rise of Skywalker, fucking YIKES) but hey, at least it has more than one name attached to it.

But okay, if we're gonna play the comparison game, let's be fair and compare LO to some other works in its own lane. Let's Play announced last year that it would be getting an animated adaption, and it already has a studio backing it that is FAR more suited for it than JHC is to LO - OLM, the same studio whose animated for massive franchises like Pokemon, Yo-Kai, and Gudetama. JHC meanwhile has animated... motion capture kid shows like Word Party. Because that's the only kind of animation they actually specialize in when it comes to their in-house services. Sure, they also have Harriet the Spy, but that wasn't animated by them, that was animated by Titmouse Inc (heh sorry).

I'm the Grim Reaper recently had its own animated adaption announced, and who's in charge of it? Oh, only SAM FUCKING RAIMI-

And look, maybe the Let's Play and I'm the Grim Reaper adaptions won't happen either. I just think it's ironic that they both have more to show for themselves in terms of credible names attached to them than what LO has managed to scrape up after five years of promising that it's "still happening" (especially when one of those series is nowhere near as big as LO and the one that WAS as big as LO walked away from Webtoons entirely). For Webtoons' own "worldwide phenomenon", they sure have given LO the shit end of the stick by pairing it with a family-with-kids-under-10 production studio that doesn't specialize in animation and a showrunner who got her start with the Cosmopolitan (weird how LO has so many plugs with Cosmo, huh? Why is JHC producing the show again?)

At the end of the day, nothing's changed. It's still just the ole' "it's still happening" record on a loop, while the comic itself falls further out of favor with people. And it's likely gonna be going behind DailyPass soon, so just think about what that's gonna do to its relevancy after it gets sent away to the equivalent of the Webtoons graveyard.

As I've said countless times before every time this topic comes up, at best, if it is still happening, and I'm wrong about all of this, they are doing the worst job I've ever seen at hyping people up and keeping them informed. It is NOT a good thing that people have to keep asking Rachel if it's still happening.

As for worst case... you wanna know what other projects come to my mind that have fallen into the same state of development hell and decay as LO's TV show? YandereSim and Cryamore. What do you think the popular opinion is about those works and their creators now? Because if you don't know either of those names and are about to google them, let me give you a heads up warning - it's not positive.

If it happens, it happens. It will hopefully be before I get all the therapy I need to undo what LO has done to my brain so that I don't have to make repeat visits LOL But if it's after, hey, maybe the show will be good! Assuming Rachel doesn't, y'know, E.L. James the whole thing. Because frankly, the show will need to cut and rework a LOT of stuff to be any good IMO and I don't think that will be possible if Rachel gets directly involved. But I'm not even hoping for that scenario because there's literally NOTHING to give me that hope, "it's still happening" is nothing more than "don't panic" corporate speak to me at this point. It's cynical, but I just can't waste my energy caring about it anymore.

We're a Tumblr Community now! For people unfamiliar with the concept of Communities, I encourage you to check out the tumblr post by staff made about them here. However, copy/pasting what I have written in the Compendium, the Community functions as so:

SEAFLOOR (A FFXIV Community) is a Tumblr community whose duel-purpose focuses on my projects — the Compendium, question drives and screenshot events — whilst also reblogging member created works, resources (including events, commissions and looking for content/roleplay/free company posts), affirmations and other xiv-related content. If you are interested in supporting my projects without the social aspect of a Discord, I highly encourage you to join the Community. Everything hosted on the Discord will be cross-posted there; you will not miss out on anything. As Communities are still in beta, members need to be manually invited. I want to put my community on the compendium but we have an application process. Is this okay?

Yes! Just note somewhere in your application that's a requirement. The only thing that is mandatory for the Compendium is that you must be open to new members or have a public-facing/accessible facet. There's no point advertising a community if no one can join it in some way!

I want to put my community on the compendium but I only have x number of members —

Also totally okay! People don't start with large communities. Activity is a must but, whether your server has two or two thousand members, if you're looking for new people to join, I'd love to help you find people.

I want to put my community on the compendium but I worry its too niche?

Okay, and? If your Eorzean Fishing Alliance has four members but you roleplay every second weekend, I still want to know about it.

What resources/communities can I add if I'm not the owner of them?

Mutual consent is extremely important to me, so anything that isn't a large-scale community OR a publicly accessible resource must be endorsed by the owner/admin/moderators in order to be added to the compendium. I operate under the assumption that a resource posted to a public space (tumblr, googledocs, youtube, etc) is open to all. A large-scale community is one with a significant member count or openly advertises itself as being accessible to everyone for whatever purpose it serves. If in doubt, please get in touch with me. I'm happy to contact your community owners for you!

How active does a community need to be?

If you find a community has not been active in about two/three months, send me a message and I'll take a look at it. Communities have ebbs and flows, especially event spaces that may take hiatuses depending on member interest/life events. I'm not strict in my implementation provided a space isn't dead. If a link or anything is broken, absolutely contact me about that.

Ok nobody I’ve asked seems to give me a direct answer so I figured I’d just voice all my concerns with you? You don’t have to answer everything 😭😭

When it comes to fandom friends how do you move from just being moots to being friend friends? I saw a video you made about it when somebody had asked you a similar question but I’m really struggling with getting them to feel like friends and not just random accounts in my phone.

I’ve seen videos people have made and you guys are sharing jokes in the comments. I saw video of 3 girls that said “Us when anyone hates on mesrsrobyn” and you said like “Fan behaviour” which obviously shows that you’re actually their friend and you’re just teasing them.

Also how do you find people who are ok with you not responding all the time (😭😭😭) I’m just genuinely not active very much on any forms of social media. I was in a marauders gc and I was really happy thinking I was gonna make fandom friends but because I wasn’t active all the time they had a bunch of inside jokes I didn’t get and I kinda felt like an outsider.

Most of the people I see you interacting with online seem really cool and fun, so I’m just wondering where to find people like that. Just genuinely from posting?

i made most of my friends from posting !! i made my account as a whole to meet people and (ive been flagging a bit recently actually but) i always try to reply to EVERYONEEE. so most of my friends were just people that commented that i replied to, their name kept popping up in my notifs? boom. friends. one of them said they loved crimson rivers so next time i found an edit i sent it to them.

like it's frustrating i know! i hate the amount of lil red bubbles i have on every single app but it doesn't mean i value my friends any less and they all know that <3 we don't always have the time or capacity to reply and that's okie.

i tend to get it out the way immediately and test the waters. just a lil "btw i'm really sorry for my reply times! i'm not the best at it but feel free to double text me as much as you want" and always make sure that i follow up on everything that's been said whilst i wasn't replying.

18+ 616 Steve/Tony Discord Book Club: AI Tony

It's Iron Man week for Book Club! And we're reading some AI Tony! Everyone's favorite sad blue hologram man!

Most of AI Tony's big moments take place in Secret Empire, but we thought we could read the bits of Bendis' IM run that have AI Tony in them, because that's where AI Tony gets his start. So we're reading Infamous Iron Man (2016) #1 & Invincible Iron Man (2016) #1-5 with Bendis on words and Maleev and Caselli, respectively, on art. Infamous #1 is AI Tony's first appearance, so we're starting there. But the majority of AI Tony's appearances in this IM run are in this second Invincible series, which is about Riri Williams basically becoming Tony's successor after the human Tony gets knocked into a coma at the end of Civil War II. AI Tony shows up to help train her and be her suit AI.

This particular Book Club selection is in honor of two upcoming activities happening on our Discord server. We're going to be running a fic/art exchange for AI Tony and so we wanted to highlight some of the AI Tony canon for people who want to participate. @kiyaar has an interest check up right now.

Additionally, this run takes place during Secret Empire (even though the IM run doesn't reference it) and several people on the server are forming a Secret Empire Study Group to parcel out the entire event and read bits of it and summarize it for each other so that we can all know what happens in all the tie-ins and none of us have to read the entire event. Secret Empire had a lot of tie-ins, and we're trying to make it easier on ourselves. Because sometimes you wanna write fic about Secret Empire but you don't want to read the hundreds of issues of Secret Empire. Yes, there are literally hundreds of issues. The more people who do this, the fewer we each have to read!

This is my apology for being away from Tumblr as I deal with a heavy seasonal workload, and a little APB about what I'm doing right now in general. Lately, most of my fandom-time has been spent on Discord and thus, I'd like to invite people onto our MTL-adjacent community, Dis-Chordsykat once more. We're an 18+ server (seriously... no kids, please) basically a group of Metalocalypse creatives at this point, conspiring with and encouraging one another to do terrible things to fictional people.

For those of you who follow me for Dethkomic, this is also where I frequently post WIPs, extras, NSFW stuff and of course... crush on my OTP which is made up of two of my own characters whose relationship I recently canonized (See above image. Yes, I have gone mad with power. Thanks for asking!) I am also doing a Dethkomic Q&A where I'll be answering any and all Dethkomic questions as it pertains to production, development, and the story itself, on Saturday, November 25th (The weekend after Thanksgiving and day after Dethkomic's final update). I'll also have previews of things I have planned for the future of Dethkomic and a few other surprises, too. been scouring the regretevator wiki cause i was curious (terrible wiki btw i am so sorry. one page has a citation that just links to some discord bullshit which people who are not in the server obviously cant see) anyways i am getting a terrible impression of the creator(?) and i would be interested in your thoughts on this business if youd be willing to share :3

oh goodness gracious... well we do have Some thoughts and we dunno if they match your own concerns since, we purposefully don't go out looking for whatever the creator has said but yeah even from a distance it's. Not looking good. (Already mentioned some of these before but for the sake of putting it in one place we'll be redundant)

definitely has his own takes on certain characters, headcanons, and the like. it was silly at first but as time went on and the more effort he put into pushing negativity over certain things the less fun it became. we think, if you want people to dislike a character, you try and make them dislikeable within the context of the story and then let people form those opinions. rather than being weird about the fact that there are still people who do like the character and punishing them by denying them the most basic things or even involving them in the story at all because Doesn't Deserve It. yes this is primarily about unple/asant

related but... too much of a reliance on telling stories with twitter or other unofficial platforms. did we learn nothing from the dumbledore is gay tweet. like a huge amount of information on the wiki that is very important to understanding the characters are just is NOT in the game, like if you played the game fully you'd still need to rely on the wiki to be able to participate in fandom. honestly a large part of that is why we're so biased towards certain characters! unple/asant and infe/cted are the only characters with lore and trivia and such that we've bothered to go on the wiki for and memorize. we've played the game for hours and hours but that doesnt mean much lol. once again, unple/asant especially, it literally DOESN'T TALK or participate in ANY of the active dynamic story because Doesn't Deserve It but there's still things to know about unple/asant and people who like the game just want something!! like dunno the overuse of social media in storytelling just makes it so much more unfun, we don't like how information is released and the fact that we need to rely on external material that... is sometimes taken back because the creator has gone on record Just Saying Shit. favorite example vv

Which is really funny considering it has 1 piece of dialogue on the game. So it can physically speak, and is also not "mewing 24/7" by result of having that dialogue (pretty sure the creator was just encouraged to say that without giving a fuck but, whatever). but the things that happen in game are second to the creator's twitter feed AMIRIGHTFELLAS

time to plug the stray gods discord server again, but let me also tell you why it's the place you want to be if you enjoy the game more than an average amount.

in the stray gods server, we took the last muse inspiring people very literally, and now we're doing... just about ALL the things.

we are pretty active across all timezones. this means you'll always have people to shoot the shit with if you want to talk about the game (or other things).

we have dedicated channels where we're figuring out EVERY. POSSIBLE. VERSE. as well as song paths that give unique endings. as well as the "superior" (subjective) combination of verses.

I want to put my community on the compendium but we have an application process. Is this okay?

Yes! Just note somewhere in your application that's a requirement. The only thing that is mandatory for the Compendium is that you must be open to new members or have a public-facing/accessible facet. There's no point advertising a community if no one can join it in some way!

Also totally okay! People don't start with large communities. Activity is a must but, whether your server has two or two thousand members, if you're looking for new people to join, I'd love to help you find people.

Okay, and? If your Eorzean Fishing Alliance has four members but you roleplay every second weekend, I still want to know about it.

What resources/communities can I add if I'm not the owner of them?

Mutual consent is extremely important to me, so anything that isn't a large-scale community OR a publicly accessible resource must be endorsed by the owner/admin/moderators in order to be added to the compendium. I operate under the assumption that a resource posted to a public space (tumblr, googledocs, youtube, etc) is open to all. A large-scale community is one with a significant member count or openly advertises itself as being accessible to everyone for whatever purpose it serves. If in doubt, please get in touch with me. I'm happy to contact your community owners for you!

How active does a community need to be?

If you find a community has not been active in about two/three months, send me a message and I'll take a look at it. Communities have ebbs and flows, especially event spaces that may take hiatuses depending on member interest/life events. I'm not strict in my implementation provided a space isn't dead. Hello, thanks for the question! We're excited to hear that you're interested in our next opening.

Yes, ThreeClans members certainly have a larger quantity of characters than many other discord Warriors roleplays. ThreeClans was brought to life in 2016 as a skype roleplay, and the many roleplays that followed closely after our creation tended to have more characters than what might be considered standard nowadays. Over the past 8 years (we celebrated our 8th anniversary on February 2nd), the Warriors roleplay community has changed in many ways. While fewer characters per person might be the trend now, it wasn't always the case. In addition, having 5 groups (NettleClan, CreekClan, JaggedClan, FogClan, and the Trove of Twisted Tunnels), we need more characters to fill out the ranks! We do have character limits, however. Members with adequate activity are able to join 3 groups. Some of our members prefer to stay in just 1 or 2 groups, and that's perfectly fine! Each member's character limit is determined by how many groups they are in. For each group they're in, a person can have up to 4 characters, though our more standard maximum is 3; 4 is permitted only for members who show outstanding activity.

1 Group: 3-4 Characters Maximum 2 Groups: 6-8 Characters Maximum 3 Groups: 9-12 Characters Maximum

Recently, we have adjusted the character system to allow members to more freely choose the distribution of their characters. Previous to this change, these limits were per group, meaning a person in 3 groups could have 3-4 characters in each group, but not exceed that limit. Now, there is a bit more flexibility. If a member is in 3 groups, they are able to have 9-12 characters, but they do not have to be split evenly from group to group. It's difficult to explain succinctly, and there is a more expansive announcement regarding this system in the server, but hopefully this gives you at least a bit of insight!

ThreeClans does not have an official system when it comes to members obtaining new characters. We do have an activity check, but that is in place only to ensure our members remain present and roleplaying. We don't have character slots or an "earning" system in which more activity unlocks the possibility of more characters, and instead give out new characters on a case-by-case basis. We look at activity first and foremost, but there are a large variety of factors that go into choosing roleplayers for new characters.

Every few months, we put out an announcement in the server inviting our members to react to the announcement with a variety of emojis to indicate their interest in obtaining characters. When choosing new characters, whether it be for a kit litter or a loner/rogue/kittypet opportunity, we always look through the people who have indicated interest through this announcement first. The screenshot below gives you an idea of what one of these "survey" announcements might look like!

Being offered a character in this manner isn’t the only way to create a ThreeClans OC! We have in-server adoptable applications in which NPCs (typically characters created by people who have left the roleplay and have given us permission to reuse pieces of their OC) are put up for for adoption and members are invited to apply for them. Some of these characters are what we call "blank slate" characters, where the entirety of the OC can be created by the applying member, but some have more rigid guidelines. Different members prefer different types of adoptable characters, and our adoption document always has something for everyone! In addition, we encourage members to approach us with their own ideas or character pitches, and many of our former loner characters were created this way.

Yes, they are the most important part of the application process.

The first thing we do when we get an application is the background check. Having a cool character concept is great, but if we believe an individual would bring more harm than good to the community of our server, then we will choose the comfort and safety of our members first and foremost!

If we can see people you follow and posts you like and reblog/retweet and so on, that might just be enough for us to carry out a proper brackground check! If you don't have any active social medias, we're open to seeing other ways we could carry out the background check!

personal update

in the new year, as i'm going to try to make more witcher context (no promises, it's just a goal of mine—it's simply a matter of initiative and positive thinking!) i'm going to stop using my real life name online, because i realized that's probably not a very bright idea.

the thing is, my "real life" name used to not be my real life name—it used to be my online psuedonym, but for gender reasons, it was more comfortable than my real name, and i began to use it in real life, so now it basically functions like my "real name."

this didn't bother me too much on tumblr, because "nobody really cares" about tumblr, but since tumblr has become a twitter-alternative at the same time that i've realized i also have a penchant for using other social media sites other than tumblr, more public-facing ones, namely reddit and youtube, i've realized i should probably phase out using my real name for a pseudonym for general internet safety rules. and please, i know i'm not a child, but internet safety is important at any age. a good example has also been made for me by some of my internet friends who do use pseudonyms, and i've somewhat always regretting not going by one.

if we're mutuals or have spoken before or you just happen to know my name, don't worry about switching out my name or calling me something else *if it's a private conversation.* you can call me by my real name on discord or in DMs.

i still completely identify with my real name and i'm not switching my name for any gender-related purposes—i just don't want to have my name written down publicly on social media sites like tumblr, youtube, reddit, etc. where anyone who's never spoken to me before can just show up, find my name, and start calling me by it, or worse, trying to cyberstalk me.

after giving it some thought (a lot of thought, as included in the read more), i have decided to go by the pseudonym nimue.

reflections about fandom experiences, explanations of my concept, and other ideas and disclaimers under the cut. skip to the end for answers to some anticipated questions.

experiences in the fandom

around one to two years ago, i began thinking about the witcher fandom and my role in it with more seriousness. ... that sounds ridiculous, i know—i'm literally just some guy on the internet.

but i seriously enjoy writing long posts about the witcher and having long discussions about the witcher on the internet. and apparently, there are people who also enjoy reading these posts and having these discussions. i've always wanted to prioritize this kind of interaction and spaces, as i find them incredibly fulfilling. maybe it sounds pathetic, but the witcher and fandom has a genuine priority in my life—it's a great hobby, an interest i focus on almost every day. so it stands to reason that i'd like to identify in this space and create spaces where this kind of interaction can flourish.

i don't know if it's the general direction of the fandom at the moment, but this past year, especially these past six months, have been pretty great in relative terms of fandom interaction—at least for me. the discord server is active, there seem to be new witcher book fans joining tumblr, and i've started using and posting on r/wiedzmin and r/witcher with some unexpected success and appreciation.

i'm trying to be mild here, but i feel like this fandom is growing and has a lot of potential—perhaps it's wrong to say this about a fandom that just turned, indeed, 36 years old, but i just mean—in my experience. when i joined the fandom in 2017, it felt like there was virtually no books content. most everything was witcher 3 content, which was great, but personally? i remember feeling deeply unsatisfied—and more than that, i was deeply lonely. yes, there were friends and mutuals (shout out to the longterm mutuals and homies!) but there was no daily conversation. this really continued for some time. of course, the n*tflix series made it a worse situation, even more despairing.

until march of 2020, when i promoted the first discord server (now a private server) and people—who became my good friends—to my surprise, actually joined. this bastion of book fans, as i'll call us, went on as a kind of cultural hub, and i was very encouraged by this. today, the new books server i created six months ago has taken this torch and functions as a hub. and in these experiments i realized—there are people out there, we just need to find each other.

but, i also realized, this will not happen by itself. we need to take the initiative.

by this hand—yes, all of that about fandom experiences was a huge non sequitur—i have pondered the creation of a witcher fandom persona, along with a youtube channel, also for a long time.

i began to think of this in mid-2019, with no shame i admit it was in anticipation for the then-upcoming n*tflix series. i, foolishly and naively, thought that i could create videos comparing the n*tflix series to the books and assessing what was accurate to what was made up. of course, it turned out that december that it was all made up, and there was little serious analysis to be had, because what could be created was either overwhelming—explain every single mistake they made, which would take forever—or nothing at all—it was not even worth watching and reviewing.

after that, i felt very turned away from the thought of a channel, and somewhat creatively stifled. it became a challenge to not compare, every single day, between what the books had VS what the n*tflix series had—not only in terms of lore, but in terms of fans. it suddenly felt even more lonely and futile to make witcher book content, even when it would have been the time that people perhaps needed it the most.

i perked up a little bit in december of 2020, but i ran out of time to create anything of substance—did i mention, throughout all of this time, that i was in college? i was free for a month for winter break, then had to jump directly back into the spring semester. and i did not fool around about my studies—i put every single bit of effort i had into school, then into work. so, of course, there was little to put into the witcher.

of course, the pandemic hit, and everything went online. i barely remember these months, they're all a blur. i had some great conversations and friendships online during this time, because all socialization was moved to online, but i can't remember if i put any effort into the channel during these months or not.

channel concept: inis vitre

then, in december 2021, i was suddenly plagued by some visions and motivation to put into the channel. i had this idea, along this line of thinking:

"i'm very nervous and insecure about creating videos online. my voice, my face, my body, to put it all on the internet feels too accessible. i need to hide under layers of pretend, of fantasy, of escapism, in order to feel confident enough. what to do?"

i came up with the idea of a youtube channel called "nimue's tower"—of course, after re-reading lady of the lake a bunch during the fall of 2021, i came to have more appreciation for ch. 2 and 7. there is a very lifelike, fleshed out world of nimue's island, her tower and all of its aesthetics and philosophy. adding to this that it seems almost untouched by fans, so why not create something around this identity?

i later changed the idea so that "nimue's tower" would be a sort of canon-focused, lore-focused segme—one of many segments—which would appear on the channel named: inis vitre. (that's the name of the island, if you haven't read ch. 2 of lady of the lake in a while). perfect! and this would open it up for other kinds of themed segments to appear on the channel—"condwiramurs' corner," for instance, which would feature headcanons, theories, and other "source: it came to me in a dream" type of content—literally.

so, my plan was that i would loosely roleplay as the sorceress nimue on her island inis vitre, who is receiving a guest—condwiramurs, you, the viewer—to help her with seeking the legend of the witcher girl. in united scholarship, we would "explore the legend" together in various videos analyzing different scenes from the books and the "lore".

cute concept, right? hopefully not too cringey? i'm still set on this, by the way, so i hope to do this sometime in the future—!

the amount of "roleplay" and acting "in character" is a variable i have yet to see to. is it nimue... as a youtuber? is there a more meta "hey guys, what's up, welcome back to the channel"? or is it a more serious "you're finally awake, come and eat breakfast, and then we can discuss your dreams" type, where there is heavier storyline? is it video-by-video, or are there consecutive, chronological episodes with a progressing storyline? ah, decisions, decisions. but this is the general concept i want to pursue, and the kind of title, image, persona i want to create. this has all been sitting in my head for around a year now, so i just have to write it out on the internet, to say: "i thought of this, this is what i am going to do."

reasons i chose inis vitre & nimue

again, this is possibly cringey, but i wanted to write out the reasons i resonate with nimue as a character and inis vitre as a place.

inis vitre, to me, is a metaphorical, figurative place. an island in the middle of a lake where no one goes unless they want to be afflicted by the mania of the legend of the witcher. a somewhat remote place, where only nimue, the fisher king, condwiramurs, and the serving maids reside. a place of scholarship and pursuit of the legend - with a library and gallery, filled with memories, facts, and dreams. thinking of it this way, i already live on inis vitre - on my own little "island", apart from everybody else, where i give into my obsession about the witcher to analyze and daydream as much as i like. and of course, the natural setting with its pine trees, beaches lined with mussels, pristine waters, and cool air reminded me of my real-life setting, too. so to me, inis vitre is a lot like a home.

as for the reasons i identify with nimue:

nimue describes her relationship to the legend of ciri in terms of pathology, a "mania" which "simply everyone knows" that she is "afflicted" with.

nimue is very curious and motivated, especially when she was young, emotional, and passionate about the legend (in season of storms).

nimue is very methodological in how she approaches the legend. she has a library of sources for this very reason.

nimue prefers, and seeks, the "real" legend, wanting facts and reality. owing to this, she is neat, and tidy, and demands respect for both herself and her work. she's studious, and treats it seriously!

nimue is regarded as short. yes, this is a serious reason why i relate to her. she is short, yet no one disrespects her anymore for this fact. it doesn't affect how her opinions are perceived.

of course, i also identify with condwiramurs:

condwiramurs describes her relationship to the legend of ciri in terms of love, calling it like the early infatuation and romance being replaced by something like the coolness of marital duty.

condwiramurs is, literally, a dreamer. her job is to read inbetween the lines and envision what was not stated or recorded. she also seeks the truth, but by using her own abilities and powers on top of the research.

condwiramurs prefers the "beautiful" versions of the legend, the story-like ones, where ciri throws behind her an apple, a comb, and a handkerchief as she is leaving the world of the aen elle.

to me, "nimue" and "condwiramurs" are just representations of the fans of the series, and the kinds of internal discourse we have. this is also why, in my opinion, these two sorceresses are not described in such individualistic detail, unlike the sorceresses of the lodge, for instance.

no, this is not kinning. no, this is not me losing my grip on reality. i just want a fun, witcher books-related name that i can give to introduce myself, but one which also resonates with me. the name is intended with a dash of some wry referential humor, it's not a serious, "i am this character, treat me as such" kind of deal. as i stated, the name "nimue" is representative of an attitude, a philosophy, the passion and curiosity of a fan of the witcher. it's not a literal name. that's why it's a pseudonym.

yes, i know some people find it cringey to go by a character name from the fandom you are participating in. my way of thinking is this: only the fans which have read up until lady of the lake will understand that my name is a witcher reference, and nimue is a minor character whom many fans already forgot about, or didn't care much of in the first place. thus, not every fan that interacts with the witcher will, upon first glance, find it an unbearably distracting name, so much so that they are unable to interact with me (like, it's not like there is a legion of "nimue fans" who make headcanons for the character, ship the character, etc. so that it would be distracting to call myself by this name). additionally, i'm not going to be compulsively introducing myself by this name in every post i make, it's more like... a business card. something to call me by, something to introduce myself as, a number you can put in your contacts. that's really how i think of names functioning in society, anyhow.

yes, i know that nimue is a female sorceress and it is a "female name." well, my real life name is also a "female name," and does that make me female? no. my relationship with my gender is my own. don't worry, i know what i'm doing. i don't care if this leads to me being more misgendered on the internet, because i don't need to prove my gender to anybody, i know who i am. and i can just hope that people will respect me for what i say and take me seriously.

yes, i know that this doesn't mean complete safety on the internet. remember that that is only one of the reasons i am making this change. my thinking is, better late than never, better to start now than never at all, and best to do it when it lines up with a creative venture and something i want to put my heart into.

Ahh, thank you so much! And yes, RSA is very much active. We are always sharing thoughts and good music and pics of hot people. Discussing our resident authors' WIPs and completed stuff. And other stories too! I'm planning to do some more group stuff once I finish my second OC novel first draft (which has been taking a lot of my time the last few months) -- hopefully in the fall when we're all a little more focused on fandom.
