Prolouge

The forest of Mount Wildwood was quiet, the full moon casting a glow on the wet rocks near the river. A distant owl hoots, the sound echoing softly through the night. A cicada chirps softly. Hey, wait a sec, that's not a cicada...

It's a Cadin!

Cadin is a yo-kai of the Charming Tribe. What's a yo-kai you ask? It's a mischievious spirit, of course. People usually don't see yo-kai without a watch, but there are sometimes exceptions. Cadin hops towards a nearby log, where another yo-kai was sitting. That yo-kai was Ushio.

“Any luck, dear friend?” Cadin asks. Ushio sighs, shaking her head. “No luck. I can't find it anywhere. Perhaps a Peckpocket took it, or somethin'...” she looks at the ground, upset. Cadin pats her shoulder reassuringly, “Thou mustn't be so down. I am sure we shall find thine talisman.” he says. Ushio smiles halfheartedly at him. “...That talisman is more than just some sorta decoration, it's... it's the only thing I have left from my human life. If I lose it forever, I... I dunno what I'd do.” she says. “I'd lose sight of what I once was, and... well, it'd be a pretty big deal is all I'm saying. I'd do anything to find it. I'd even fight the strongest yo-kai out there.”

Cadin nods, looking at the river. “Thy bravery amazes me, Ushio. Thou art more courageous than a Blazion.” he says. Ushio chuckles, “Hah, I've endured a lot as of late. Fighting boss yo-kai sounds like an easy task. But I bet once I actually face it, I'd die in mere seconds. I am still... really weak, for an A rank yo-kai.”

“Thou shouldn't underestimate thyself. Thine full strength is yet to be found.” Cadin says, his wings fluttering behind him. Ushio stays silent for a second, contemplating what Cadin said. She nods, looking into the river. “I guess you're right... thanks, Cadin.” she looks up at the moon, which was high in the sky. “We better turn in for the night. We can find the talisman tomorrow. We should get some sleep...” she gets up from the log.

Cadin nods in agreement, hopping up on a nearby branch, saying, “Very well. Until we meet again, Ushio!” He then disappears into a cloud of smoke, teleporting away.

“...I'll see you around, Cadin.” Ushio sighs, walking through the bushes, toward the Mount Wildwood Shrine. She had one last thing to do before going to bed.

She stops at the small pond of koi fish near the shrine, sitting in front of it. Ushio... wasn't a fan of water, and yet she was good at controlling it. It annoyed her that she didn't get an attribute she wanted when she became a Yo-Kai, but oh well, water attribute was given to her anyway. Ushio takes a deep breath, and exhales. “I'll be able to find it. I'm sure I will.” she gets up, fading into her human disguise, and going to her home in Uptown Springdale. She sneaks into the house, not wanting her (adoptive) parents to find out she'd been sneaking around outside.

She makes her way upstairs, and lays down in her bed. “What a day this has been. I wonder if I'll ever find it.” she mumbles, before falling asleep.

Chapter one: Befriended

Ushio, in her Yo-Kai form, was sitting on a park bench, observing others at play in the field. There was a lot of emotions Ushio was feeling at once. Confusion, sadness, amusement... all at the same time. Times sure have changed since when she was human. When she was young, the way of playing would be joining with a few friends and play fighting. In the times of now, people would kick a ball, and call it fun? Ushio never understood the modern human ways.

“This ball game confuses me. What is the point of kicking the ball? It did nothing wrong. This is injustice!” Ushio grumbles.

“It's called kick-ball, Ushio.” someone with a British accent says. Ushio facepalms, knowing exactly who it is. “...Hey, Whisper. What is it, now?” she hisses. “I have a feeling that a big Yo-Kai might be around here!” Whisper says.

“Whisper, wait up!” a more scrawny-ish voice coming from afar yells. Ushio jumps, “w-who is that?!” she asks. “I never introduced you to Nate, have I, Ushio?” Whisper says. Ushio sighs, shaking her head. A child runs up to them. He's slightly shorter than Ushio, and a red cat Yo-Kai is following from behind him. “Whisper, don't leave us behind like tha-... W-Whisper, what Yo-Kai is that?” Nate points to Ushio. Ushio growls in response, “Hey, pointing at others is rude! Watch where you point, human.”

“Nate, this is Ushio! She is a Yo-Kai of the Mysterious Tribe, with a water attribute!” Whisper says, almost excitedly. Ushio doesn't say anything, but her eyes narrow and extends her hand to Nate for a handshake.

After they shook hands, the red cat Yo-Kai jumps in. “And I'm Jibanyan, nyan!” he says in a high-pitched tone. Nate sighs, “Let's just focus on the huge aura coming from right there!” he gestures to the front of the school. Ushio nods, “I agree with the human.”

Nate looks through the lenses of his Yo-Kai Watch, and then he sees a giant lizard Yo-Kai. Slimamander.

On the Yo-Kai, was a blue Talisman. Ushio recognized it immediately. “Hey! It's got my talisman!” she growls, stepping foreward. “W-Wait, Ushio, you can't face him head on!” Whisper yells. “We'll help you, nyan!” Jibanyan says. Nate facepalms, “Why does this always happen to us... okay, fine, we'll help!” he says.

Ushio jumps at Slimamander, trying to land a hit, but it was covered in slime, so all the attacks bounced right off. “Hmph. I underestimated you.” Ushio grunts, throwing a bullet of water at its closed eye. The eye opens.

“That's it's weak spot! We need to hit it's eye!” Nate says, grabbing a medal and putting it in the Yo-Kai Watch. “Come on out, my friend! Calling Cadin!”

Ushio's eyes go wide. Cadin already had befriended Nate? “Wait- Cadin?” she stops fighting, and ended up getting hit by Slimamander's attack.

Ushio got knocked back, slowly getting up. “...It's strong... but not strong... enough...!” she hisses. “Ushio, wait, you need to heal!” Whisper says. Ushio couldn't hear him, and kept on throwing a flurry of attacks at Slimamander's eye. Cadin joined in too. “Thine fighting is admirable, Ushio. But thou must rest at some point!” he says. Ushio looked at Cadin, “I will, but I'm not stopping until I get my talisman back!” she says.

“PAWS OF FURY!!!” Jibanyan yells, hitting Slimamander's eye with his quick paws. Ushio looks at him in awe. “Okay, that was cool.” she says, quietly. Slimamander then closed it's eye again. “Ah, you're joking!! We have to open its eye again?!” Ushio growls. “Stay focused Ushio!” Cadin calls. “Right, right, yes, I know...” Ushio mutters, landing a waterfall attack on Slimamander. It does nothing to lower its HP, but it'll get it to open its eye quicker.

After a few more attacks, its middle eye opens to reveal... a tongue? “Wh- It's eye was there last time!!” Ushio says, looking mildly concerned. “Ah-ha! Yes, Slimamander can switch its eye and two tongues around! Only its eye is it's weak point though!” Whisper yells.

“Why are you named 'Whisper' if you are so loud?” Ushio asks, annoyed. Whisper looks at her angrily, before turning away, not answering the question.

Soon enough, they found which head Slimamander's eye was in, and they (supposedly) defeated it. Whisper flies in a circle excitedly “That was too close! I bet that you wouldn't have won without MY help-”

“Whisper, you didn't even give a lot of advice.” Nate grumbles. “HEY BE NICE TO ME I'M YOUR YO-KAI BUTLER!” Whisper yells. Ushio looks at both of them in amusement. “You guys are funny. Here. Take this, Nate. And don't you dare lose it.” she says, giving Nate her Yo-Kai Medal. “Oh, cool! Thanks! I guess this means we're friends now?” Nate asks. “I wouldn't have given it to you if we weren't.” Ushio answers. Nate smiles, “Thanks Ushio, for helping us out. We do have to be going though. Seeya!” he takes his leave, waving at Ushio. Ushio smiles in return and waves back, “Until next time, Nate.”

Now, Ushio was alone again. Slimamander was still lying there, seemingly dead. Ushio looks at the fell Yo-Kai, realizing it was still breathing. Ushio lets out a sigh of relief. “Good, it isn't dead.”

Slimamander then woke up, preparing a fire attack to throw at Ushio.

Ushio freezes. She felt rooted to the spot. Like she couldn't move. “Welp, this is it.” she sighs. Just as the fire was about to hit her, something, or someone, appeared in front of her, sheilding them both from the attack. Ushio couldn't see who it was, but the figure had an azure blue scarf that looked like two dragons.

The figure attacked Slimamander, and Slimamander fell down, and teleported away. The figure turns to Ushio, their golden eyes watching her with... some sort of emotion in them. They step closer, showing themselves a bit more. They looked... human. But too much aura to be a human. They were a Yo-Kai, like Ushio.

“You... saved me?” Ushio seemed grateful and confused at the same time. “Yes, well... I'm not in the government. So don't expect another bailout next time. Farewell, Ushio.” the Yo-Kai says, and then he disappears. Ushio stood there, confused even more. “How did he know my name? Why did he save me? Who WAS that?” she questions. She looks around. Seeing the seals have been fixed, and there was no more trouble in the area, Ushio retreated back to Mount Wildwood.

End of chapter.

it doesn't matter if they're "just using it for concept art" or whatever. they're still using it and its fucking gross. As a Yo-Kai Watch fan of almost 10 years now, I am truly disgusted. I hope they recall this decision and go back to using exclusively real artists, or they'll lose a lot of fans (including myself, which would break my heart. I love Level-5 games to death.)

I'm still most likely going to buy Inazuma Eleven: Victory Road and Decapolice when they come out, because most likely if the use of AI in scriptwriting/sidequests is real those will be rewritten in the English localization by actual people. Still doesn't change the concept art thing but i've been hyped for these games for too long to let that ruin it. If it goes any further than that tho, i'm probably going to tap out. Which sucks so much.

This is lazy at best and downright harmful to real artists at worst.

You've been chasing a vengeful spirit back into the modern world, and the only inn - as you're in the middle of nowhere presently - has a single remaining room. Content: gender neutral reader, monster romance, fluff with mild NSFW

Murasaki

"Where are you going?" you manage to blurt out, hurrying after the dark-haired yokai. "You may take the bed. I don't need sleep", he explains curtly as he places a hand over his sword. "I'll be keeping watch outside." Murasaki is stubborn, and you already know that no amount of arguing will convince him. As it's already late and you're quite exhausted, you do hesitantly crawl under the sheets while he positions himself next to the door. When you wake up for a bathroom break, you notice him breathing softly in a peaceful slumber. You might have to be creative with your tactics: You return to your room, pull on your clothing a little bit, and let out a frantic shout. The horned man scrambles up and barges inside, wildly confused. "I had a terrible nightmare, and thus, lamentably, I will be requiring your presence for the remaining hours of the night", you narrate theatrically, patting the empty half of the bed next to you. He clicks his tongue and furrows his brows in annoyance. As he approaches, you can discern a faint blush dusting his cheeks. "You can't be serious right now", he bemoans, removing the swords from his sash. "Pathetic." He begrudgingly shoves himself next to you and turns around. His ears are a deep shade of red. "Now shut up and go back to sleep."

Kiritsubo

"Does that mean we can share the bed?" Kiritsubo is beaming with enthusiasm as he waddles behind you towards the room. "I suppose so", you nod reassuringly, somewhat confused by his reaction. You've been sleeping next to each other from the very beginning, or at least ever since you've been awakened by one of his night terrors and offered to keep him company. "It's nothing new, though, is it?" "Well, this time it's in your world, you know?" he confesses, now a little embarrassed by his obvious excitement. He scratches his cheek awkwardly. "I s-suppose it's not that different, huh?" You lay in bed, staring at the ceiling. There's one technical detail you've omitted in your generous offer: Kiritsubo is massive and terribly clingy. His muscular arms are wrapped tightly around you, and you can feel his hot breath in your ear. You try to free yourself by lifting your leg and shoving him with your knee, but he doesn't budge. Not only that, but you might've unintentionally aroused him in his sleep. It'll be a long night, you think as you try to ignore the boner pressing into your side.

Suma

"Well, at least we know who's taking the bed", the yokai jokes as the inn worker bows apologetically. "We're terribly sorry, sir, there's nothing...there's nothing here that could possibly..." their words trail off, gazing at Suma's enormous stature. Indeed, the human sized furniture looks ridiculous next to him. You wave your hand and dismiss the baffled employee. You can't blame them; you too were speechless during your first encounter with the demon. "What will you do?" you ask, sitting on the edge of the mattress. "I can sleep on the floor just fine!" He flashes you a smile and stretches his limbs. "If you get bored of that", he continues, pointing at the bed, "you can always join me". He pats his chest with a cheeky grin, chuckling at the sight of your now blushing face. Perhaps it's not such a bad offer. Then again, how comfortable is it to sleep on toned muscles? You sit up and decide to test it out yourself.

Yuugiri

"Oh my, what a pity. Well, it's only natural that you have priority." Yuugiri steps aside and gestures for you to come closer towards the bed. "We don't want our precious little human to be uncomfortable, hmm?" You want to protest, but he quickly places a pale, slender finger over your lips. "Unless..." he adds, this time in a deeper voice. He lowers himself painfully close to your face. "Unless you want us to sleep together. Although I can't promise to keep my hands to myself." You stutter awkwardly, and you can feel your cheeks burning in embarrassment. The yokai laughs at your flustered state, delighted by your reaction. "You always tease me", you finally manage to say, brushing past him and climbing under the sheets with an irritated huff. "Can you really blame me? You're always so cute~" After a moment of silence, you can feel a shuffle coming from behind you. "Jokes aside, do scooch over. I'm not going to sleep on the floor like an animal."

Sekiya

Sekiya stares at the bed and shivers. He dares not look in your direction. The thought of sharing a bed with a demon like him must've made you uncomfortable. Why else would you be so quiet? You're probably trying to come up with a polite way to retrieve your privacy. He won't let you struggle for a way out. He opens his mouth to excuse himself, but he's interrupted by your exhausted yawn. "Guess we'll sleep together, huh?" you remark, casually, as you unbutton your shirt. The lack of response prompts you to turn and search for the yokai, who is now visibly red and feverish, erratically fidgeting and twiddling his fingers. "W-what are you even saying..." he blurts out. Are you mocking him? You must know he's very much attracted to you. To think he'd be this close to your body...he shakes his head vehemently. Unimaginable! Then again, chances like these don't come all the time...

Sakaki

“We can share the bed if you’d like”, you suggest to the masked yokai. "No need to concern yourself with me. My nights are tormented, devoid of any rest. I will not be requiring a bed", he states melancholically, but with factual confidence. You don't think you can sleep with his shadow looming over at all times, so you insist that he at least attempts to lay down regardless of the outcome. He lets out a deep sigh and closes his eyes. Hmm. There's a certain warmth emanating from your body. He unconsciously drags himself closer, head now resting next to yours. The heat brings him comfort, and his muscles begin to relax. He'd even dare to say it's a pleasant experience. You jolt awake upon feeling a pair of arms wrapping around you, and you turn back in confusion. Sakaki swiftly hides his flustered face in the crook of your back. "Perhaps this isn't so bad, after all..." he mumbles quietly. "Don't mind me."

I've tried to read all the stuff about fangiverse but I may have some lore wrong... but I hope you enjoy this anyway, Aya!

Raph has always kept an eye on his little brothers, and that hasn't changed. Two of them have some added... difficulties now, but that's all. They're still his little brothers, and Raph will watch out for them, same as usual. Everything is totally normal.

Thinking that way helps him stay calm, anyway.

Like now, wandering through a marketplace in the Hidden City, eyes on Donnie as he pokes at the gourds at a stand with a frown. They have a whole shopping list from Draxum, for some medicines he wants to try to make that he thinks will help not just Donnie and Leo but all of them. Raph had almost insisted that he and Mikey could do it on their own, but Leo starts going stir-crazy if he's kept locked in the lair too long and Donnie can lock himself in so long he needs the vitamin D.

Besides, Raph doesn't want to feel like he's keeping them prisoner. It's not their fault.

But against all odds, the day has turned out surprisingly well! They had lunch at Run of the Mill, and ate all their favorites. Leo and Mikey spent their remaining New Year's money on candy from a shop that temporarily turns keratin weird colors; it's supposed to affect fingernails, but right now Mikey is sporting a bright pink shell as he trails after Donnie (Raph has to admit, he wants to try it later). For his part, he has an almost-eaten cup of froyo, which he'd piled high with some pretty weird toppings (the Hidden City has weird green mushrooms that taste like cotton candy!). And they've made it through over half the shopping list without incident! Maybe everything will go smoothly after all.

And just as Raph thinks that, he hears a familiar snarl, and everything falls apart.

His mistake, he realizes even as he turns to look, was focusing so much on Donnie that he forgot to keep an eye trained on Leo.

Donnie's easy to trigger, and he sinks deep, devoid of everything but the urge to attack, to fight. Leo can usually keep one finger in reality, just enough to be the bridge between Donnie and the rest of them. Donnie is unpredictable in a crowd, but Leo loves being out around people. That's why Raph had kept his eyes trained on purple.

But the thing is, when Leo goes down, he goes down hard. And there's nothing to stop Donnie from being swept right along with him.

Raph swivels on his feet, froyo cup tossed aside as he scans the crowd. He finds Leo fast, poised like a snake ready to strike, snarling and hissing, pupils flared and wild. His fangs are out and they're bared, staring down a yokai almost three times his size - Raph doesn't know what happened in the lead-up, but he has a feeling that Leo's freakout is deserved.

It doesn't change the fact that they can't stay here now. If Leo hurts someone in this state, he'll beat himself up about it for weeks - and it's only a matter of time until the cops show up and arrest all of them.

"DONNIE!"

Raph isn't at all surprised by Mikey's shout, or the sudden blur of purple that shoots past him. Donnie is at Leo's side in an instant, snarling just as loudly, the two of them circling back to back in challenge to the increasingly panicked crowd.

It's time to go!

"Raph!" yells Mikey, but Raph doesn't spare him a glance. He trusts Mikey to keep up.

"Hitch a ride, Mike," is all he says, before he's clearing the space between himself and his snarling brothers in two big steps. A second later, a familiar weight lands on his shell; one problem taken care of.

Donnie is just about to launch himself at a yokai brandishing a short sword when Raph swoops in, grabbing his little brother by the battle shell and tucking him under his arm. Donnie howls in frustration, but Raph has experience on his side; he pins Donnie to his side and makes sure his teeth can't get anywhere near him.

"No biting, Dee!" he calls over the noise of the crowd, and gets a frustrated chatter in return.

"I can't reach Leo!" Mikey reports from his shoulder. Raph swivels around to look at his remaining sibling, currently advancing on the big yokai once again. Said yokai has his hands balled into fists in front of him, but he looks more than a little concerned as Leo lurches toward him with predatory steps.

Maybe he could just let him get a little closer...

No, Raph should definitely stop this.

With another big step, Raph comes level with Leo and scoops him under his other arm, earning a startled yelp that would be hilarious under other circumstances. Both feral turtles struggle under his arms, fangs bared and hands strong, but Raph has them in his grip.

A police siren echoes over the din of the crowd.

"Time to go!" Mikey shouts, thumping Raph's shell.

"Don't gotta tell me twice!" he yells back. He's already muscling his way through the crowd, making a beeline for an alleyway off the market. They need to get off the main streets, then book it for the nearest portal topside.

The whole trip, the bundles under his arms hiss and snarl and claw at him, completely ungrateful for how he just saved their butts. He ought to drop them and leave them here.

But he won't. They're still his little brothers, after all.

This took me longer because at first I couldn't make up mind about which AU to add in and then I pulled a Donnie and started overthinking the question, ahaha...

Borrowing Future!Donnie from @kathaynesart 's Replica series because I love his design and might have a thing for hoods I guess, can you tell and this story and art- Amaaazing! Go check it out if you haven't!!

With him is Sannan from my (STILL UNNAMED, I am terrible at names) AU thing. Little yokai boi lives in the pre-tech era of Edo, Japan where the most he's been able to study are Western-influenced sciences and nothing more complicated than watches and Karakuri puppets, so all this shiny stuff is fascinating and new to him. A non-techy Donnie must be blowing big!Donnie's mind.

Alternatively I was going to draw him with Omega but I don't think 'megs would appreciate Sannan trying to pry open his screen to see what makes it tick or if there is an actual head inside.

Side note the above pictures are the Dialog for trying to enter the girls' hotsprings as Nate. Sorry for these pictures low quality as evidently the only evidence online that this dialog exists was a single tiktok by blizzaria solos, and it has since been taken down.

And the only reason I have these pictures is because I took them back in November. I checked every playthrough of yokai watch 1's sproink boss I could find on YouTube I could find to try and get better screenshots. No one tried to go in the girls side even as a joke XP
