Bless that good, good woman who hung the crucifix round my neck! for it is a comfort and a strength to me whenever I touch it. It is odd that a thing which I have been taught to regard with disfavour and as idolatrous should in a time of loneliness and trouble be of help.

I'm really chewing on this line from Jonathan's diary. I spent a few years as a traveling lay Minister for my church and there were many times that people of other faiths would pray with us or for us. Some in my group were disdainful of this (never in public, thank goodness!), but I often felt that there was a spiritual strength that came from their acts of faith, even if they were not my own.

This was also true when my friend would invite me to join his family for Seder and other meals or when I went to his Bar Mitzvah and I was a part of their religious rites. Or when my friend invited me to join his family for Eid.

Do we appreciate the gifts of others faith traditions? Or do we, as some folks in some social media groups I'm in, openly mock the sincere expression of faith and concern? (Yes, I'm talking about you, people who refer to God as "Sky Daddy" and you, people who mock Latter-day Saints by talking about multiple wives, a practice that ended over 125 years ago and was only engaged in by a small percentage of Mormons in the first place, and you, people who insult Catholics by accusing them of being pedophiles.)

If you have an interest in football, you may have had the opportunity to attend a live match between FC Barcelona and Real Madrid. If so, you might have noticed how the local fans, of either team, often whistle and even insult the opposing team every time they touch the ball, and with even more fervor if it's the star player of the rival team (currently Ronaldo or Messi). If they consider that player to be arrogant or if they have previously played for the other team (as was the case with Luis Figo), the boos are even more intense.

If you pause to think, you will see that this attitude directly stems from fear. Fear that the rival team may be better and win the game. Fear that Messi or Ronaldo might have a standout day and tip the match against our team. “Remember that unjust criticism is often a hidden compliment. No one kicks a dead dog!” as Dale Carnegie once said. And it’s true: people don’t fear the weak; they simply ignore them. That's why the level of anger or hatred decreases as the level of the opponent decreases, unless there is a historical rivalry, as is the case with Atlético and Real Madrid, or Espanyol and Barça.

In my case, I have never lacked haters. First, because I have always been competing for top positions. Second, because I have a strong character and have always said what I think, not what the fans or my rivals want to hear. In that sense, I am not as well-liked by the majority as other more reserved riders.

Unlike countries like the United States, where those who confidently display their success are applauded, in Spain, athletes who demonstrate great humility, who are part of a united family and stay out of trouble, both in competition and in their private lives, are more favorably viewed. In my case, especially at the beginning of my career, I behaved in precisely the opposite way that an "ideal" athlete should, so my detractors had plenty of reasons to channel their hatred (or fear) toward me.

“Casually,” most of the criticism came from some fans of my rivals. There are fans who simply support their rider, but others need to criticize or jeer at their rivals. It happened with Pedrosa when we were both in the 250cc, and the Spanish public divided into “Pedrosistas” and “Lorenzistas”. It happened with Márquez when he entered MotoGP, and I openly commented that he was too aggressive in overtaking. And since my debut in MotoGP, I have always faced it from the most hardcore Rossi fans, who since 2008 saw me as a threat to his reign, both in the MotoGP championship and in the Yamaha team.

After winning the 2015 world championship, these criticisms, insults, and jeers have become even more common, both at the world circuit and on social media. In Márquez’s case, who also began experiencing it that year due to the incident between Rossi and him, it may have been a greater emotional burden since he had always carefully maintained his image as the “ideal” athlete. Moreover, they were “friends”, and Rossi’s fans respected him and considered him, due to talent and age difference, the natural heir. All of that changed when Valentino started to “smell” his tenth world championship. To achieve it, clashes on the track between the two became inevitable. The situation became even more tense when in the press conference of the Malaysian Grand Prix, Rossi accused Márquez of deliberately helping me win the championship. From that point on, the two of us became enemies for the millions of 46 fans. In my case, because we always had a tense relationship and I was the rival who could snatch his long-awaited tenth world title; in Márquez’s case, supposedly for conspiring in my favor.

If you pay attention, the word “detractor” resembles “destructor”. It is related to destroying, eliminating, annihilating. How do the most radical fans attempt to “eliminate”, or at least weaken, the rival? By trying to get into their heads. By demoralizing them, sending negative messages like “you’re very bad,” “you have no personality,” “you’re not even in the same league as my rider,” etc.

Lately, when I check my Twitter or Instagram, in the comments on my photos, I see messages like these: “loser,” “go home,” “you can't tame the beast,” “take the money and run,” “retire, you're making a fool of yourself,” etc. After reading them, I have sometimes checked the recipient’s username. Curiously, the nicknames of these individuals always end with the same number.

Sometimes I think about how incredibly detached people get from the fact that the drivers are genuinely human because I remember the horrible treatment that Daniil, Romain and Nicky received over the course of their career.

Daniil literally got made into a meme that made everyone not take him seriously.

People were blaming Romain when he just had his crash, arguing that with his driving that was bound to happen and no one even acknowledge the horrible treatment he got.

Nicky got treated horribly ever since he came into the sport. Every weekend he was insulted, made into a joke etc. After Abu Dhabi I am not sure we will ever see him openly in the public again for the next two or three years. Hell, he might never race again and honestly I couldn't blame him.

This way to just completely detach the drivers is a result of social media and parasonical relationships and while with sexualisation it was always weird and borderline creepy, with guys like them it was genuinely dangerous.

I do not know if anyone knows about this but Timo Glock, who famously slowed down in 2007 because of his tyres and unintentionally affected Lewis championship, had to hire security guards because of the shit he was getting for that.

I can not even imagine how bad and dangerous it is/was for Nicky in the age of social media being such an active part in F1.

I think sometimes people forget that while yes you can critise the drivers and understand that teams are sport businesses, many of you forget to actually treat the drivers like the human beings they are.

That can sound very hypocritical coming from me and I will admit that, absolutely, but maybe we could all use this as a reminder that it might be a sport but there's people behind that sport.

And while cars, circuits etc. don't have feelings, the drivers do. What you say about them, they can hear, they read it.

So maybe some people should be considerate and understand that when they are typing a post about how a driver should just crash etc.

Maybe you should sometimes think about if you would say your main argument/point to a driver in person (because yeah Internet slang makes things maybe akward sometimes but the message under it is what matters) and when the answer is no, maybe you should think about why you feel the need to type it online.

According to a number of surveys, the majority of the UK public is in favour of trans rights, it may surprise you to hear! The bullshit you see on social media isn't reflected in real life, it turns out, because sock puppet Twitter accounts can't make YouGov profiles or go to the ballot box; TERFs are merely a very vocal minority who know they're on the losing side, and are taking advantage of the current culture war that our government is participating in alongside the mainstream media to make themselves heard before their ideology goes the way of homophobia, racism and misogyny, which were all likewise viewed as acceptable bigotries in the past.

However, those same surveys did find that a lot of cis folks in the UK are also worried about getting things wrong when they talk to trans people or are afraid that they'll get yelled at if they make mistakes or say the wrong thing! That's a shame! If this sounds like you, I hope I can dispel at least some of your anxiety with a quick primer to get you started, and I'll begin by letting you know that this idea that trans people are all vicious, screeching bullies waiting to leap on any well-meaning mistake that a curious cis person makes is a purposeful mischaracterisation that's been sold to you by transphobes. You're not gonna get yelled at for making a genuine misstep, I promise.

(Most of us are far too frightened of being ostracised or murdered to yell at people who openly insult us, let alone your innocent mistake.)

That said, if you want to be an ally, here are the basics. ( b ._.)b

Not every trans person is obliged to educate you. If you have questions, ask folks if they're willing to answer questions, and be ready to accept "NO" for an answer. We're tired, and we know you have Google. There are whole communities of trans people on the internet who are there specifically to answer questions if you're really pressed. r/asktransgender is a great place to start.

Don't ask us questions about our genitals. Again, if you want to know what trans folks' junk can look like, Google is right there. You don't need to know what my junk, personally, specifically, looks like unless you are a) my doctor or b) my sexual partner. You wouldn't want me asking about your genitals, right? That'd be weird! And the fact that our genitals might be something other than what you may normally expect doesn't make it any less so! (Obviously if someone tells you they don't mind talking about their personal, specific junk, that's different. Just don't ask about it straight out of the gate, please. Be polite. Let them bring it up.)

Everyone has different boundaries. Some topics might be easy for one trans person to talk about but difficult for another. If we tell you we don't want to answer specific questions or discuss specific topics or that the discussion is over, respect it. Don't be a dick.

Every trans person's experiences are different! What's true for one or a few or even most of the trans folks you talk to is highly unlikely to be true for all of us. Everyone navigates transness in their own way and has different viewpoints and perspectives. We're not a monolith and you shouldn't treat us like one.

We literally just want to live with dignity like everybody else. That is literally it, that's all we want, we just want to be treated with the same respect and compassion as every other human being on this planet deserves. You shouldn't take it as a personal attack if we ask you, for example, to use inclusive language, e.g., "pregnant person" instead of "pregnant woman", in order to make a little room for us in the world. We're not taking anything away from you or anybody else; our inclusive language includes you too, after all. 💜

And that's it! Five very easy things to remember, that's all. Keep these things in mind and you'll be hard pressed to offend anyone so badly that they snap at you. Be considerate and respectful and I promise you'll be fine. Go forth and educate yourself! I'm rooting for you! 💜

I think there is always has been a negative vendetta against K with some IE accounts. But I have seen a couple tweets where they are saying K is gonna be riding the bench this season.

And then from my understanding with the more personal insults. One IE fan account leaked someone's 'circle' tweets of someone hating on her and posted them on Twitter. But this account has openly admitted way before that they don't rate IE as a player so it's not that shocking. But in return another account leaked another IE fan page circle tweets commenting on K's weight a few times and insulting Maria (the journalist!!!) as well.

It's all very confusing and I'm not 100% on this whole circle thing. Obviously leaking someone's tweets isn't good but I feel like you should never comment on someone's weight whether it's public tweeting or in a circle.

it all just seems very toxic and hateful to me. i just don’t get it at all, like what actually is the point in commenting on someone’s physical appearance and tearing them down even if you make it so they can’t see it? it’s a horrible thing to do and says a lot about someone as a person to say something like that.

my heart really breaks for K as we all know she’s struggled with hate in the past and that she does see things. it makes me feel a little better that she’s not as actively on social media anymore and i don’t even know if she still uses her twitter at all or whether it’s just up for publicity?

Somedays you just wanna get comforted by fictional characters over your issues... Today is one of those days for me so can I request Chamber, Killjoy, Cypher, Fade, Omen, and Skye comforting their chubby S/O headcanons? Like normally their S/O can handle or ignore comments about their body, but one more rude "You look pregnant" breaks them. Thank you ~BC

Who ever is being a dick to you can meet my hands, people really need to mind they damn business and shut the fuck up.

Chamber is the king of body positivity, he's a fan of all body types and will worship you REGARDLESS of what you look like. If the event happened in front of him he would go on the defensive, immediately confronting the commenter with such questions as: "What makes you think you can make a comment at that towards someone? Did your mother not raise you correctly? Have you never seen another human before?" and would basically trap them and force them to apologize to you, insulting them for being rude before sending them on their way. Would take you home right away and absolutely shower you in affection, pampering you thoroughly. If you wanted anything he would go out and get it or have it delivered. The entire rest of the day will just be him reinforcing you are absolutely perfect and that its okay to cry, not everyone can be strong all the time and you certainly shouldn't have to be subject to those types of comments all the time. Would listen to you vent or ramble as much as you desire, peppering any problem spots with kisses as he compliments you. Chamber is the partner that goes rabid the moment his love is insulted and sometimes nearly breaks his composed image over it.

Killjoy is more passive and wont confront someone but would openly and VERY loudly say, "That was so rude, what kind of idiot says something like that? They must have issues with their own confidence if they are ragging on others in public." aka doesn't say it to their face but very loudly talks shit about them before excusing you two to somewhere safer. She absolutely loves her partners chub, its one of her favorite things so when others are assholes about it she gets annoyed to say the least. Treats you to video games and even encourages you to wear your favorite clothes around to make you feel better, commenting on how good you look and awing over your chub. Certainly has a roasting session over the person who made the comment to cheer you up, makes the promise to step in more to keep you from having to deal with people being insensitive.

Klara HATES to see you cry so she really wants to do her best to cheer you up despite not being the best with emotions or people. Would really want to try to talk about how you feel so she can have a better understanding but wont push you if its touchy. Would also entirely hit on you more openly and more frequently, your body is loved and perfect and she will make the very clear.

Cypher is a passive aggressive little shit so the moment you came home crying he was asking you a million questions to figure out who did this. Holds you while you cry and vent, jotting down all the information about the event he could to hunt that person down later. Gets you set up with your favorite shows, food, and comfort items while he goes to handle a "business call" aka hunt down this persons social media and ruin their image. Does run a full check to see if this person does this a lot, if they have any other nasty traits or opinions he can pin point, eventually digs up all he can then emails it to their employer as a concerned customer/business partner. Wouldn't tell you about what he did but would return and start going off about how perfect you are and how much he loves your body, might get a bit lewd as he describes all the bits he likes but thats just him being specific.

Cypher is the type of guy that regardless of how you look or what people think you are his entire world. He would do what ever it takes to make sure those who treat you poorly get the karma they deserve while making sure your self image stays as high as he holds you.

While Chamber is the king of body positivity Fade is the queen. How her powers work lets her be very honed in when something is bothering you or when you're self conscious so she's aware the moment someone has upset you. Without a word removes you from the situation to a more isolated location if not directly home, she doesn't want you to have to feel even worse over crying in front of people. Makes sure prowler gives that person hell for a while, if you want to poke at peoples insecurities then you certainly can deal with yours being poked at. Uses alot of logic/reasoning to help calm you down, even revealing some of the persons fears to make you feel better that it wasn't you that was the issue its them. Doesn't stop calling you beautiful/handsome/gorgeous what ever term you most favor it never stops.

Fade really understands how people feel at their core so she's one of the best equipped to squash those bad feelings and replace them with better ones.

Shadow boy is very confused as to why someone would care so much about your weight to make a degrading comment, seeing someone's weight as an insignificant detail when it comes to judging people. Gets rightfully upset once he sees you crying, considers ending the person on the spot but Sage would be disappointed in him so he just teleports you away to somewhere safe. He may be far from the human he used to be but he knows how hurtful those words are, making sure you know that regardless of other peoples words it doesn't change how you are or mean you are any less. Focuses on reinforcing your own personal value as well as stressing that the stranger knows nothing, noting everyone at Valorant thinks you look amazing as you are. Honestly super confused over how you even look pregnant and may ask the stranger what they mean by that, basically making them explain the insult until they cant anymore and embarrasse themselves. Omen, despite being a confused noodle, would do his best to make sure you know your worth is not set in your weight or how people view you. Would also cite how well you usually handle things being a sign that you're stronger than the person making the comment and that crying isn't a bad thing since you usually have to deal with so much.

Skye

Muscle wife is really understanding but would not seek any conflict, removing you from the situation and comforting you as best she can. She knows that some people prefer buff people like herself but she also knows not everyone can be that way and shouldn't be shamed for it. Skye absolutely loves your chub and worships your body much like Killjoy does. She things all bodies are beautiful in their own way so what if you work out a lot or dont, doesn't make a difference to her. Offers to take you on a trip with her just the two of you so she can show you that person was entirely in the wrong to say something like that aka body worship but an entire vacation. Skye certainly is in the same boat with Omen when it comes to not understanding why people feel so entitled to comment on others bodies but likes to disprove them and make you feel valid and worthy. She also does get pretty upset when you cry and would probably make a point to be overly affectionate to you when that persons around, making it clear that you aren't undefended if they want to fuck around and find out again.

Simon Alkenmayer, ARG Gone Wrong

Abstract

To preface, despite the use of research terminology, this is an informal publication.

This post will serve as a cumulative “debunk” of the character and lore surrounding Simon Alkenmayer and the species of “Cousins”. I will be focusing on inconsistencies within the author’s creation, “facts” that don’t stack up to reality, as well as historical inaccuracies that show our immortal cryptid is anything but.

Trigger Warnings: unreality, racism

To start off, I’ll explain what an ARG is and why I’ve titled my post as such. ARG stands for Alternate Reality Game, a fictional adventure of sorts where a falsified version of reality is portrayed through a variety of mediums, attempting to seem genuine and create a sense of intrigue to the audience. For more information and a more in-depth definition, check here.

Some ARGs are labelled openly as unreal, whereas others are implied to be. Some avoid admitting to their fictional nature altogether so as to create even more of a mystery to the audience; I would place Simon Alkenmayer in this category.

The author behind Simon does not wish for the audience to know that he and his kind are a fabrication. The intentions for Simon’s character and his memoirs are to convince as well as enthrall, to the point of insulting the intelligence of those who do not fall for their writings.

The character of Simon, through various social medias (though we will be discussing predominantly his own website and tumblr blog), claims to be engaging in the third iteration of an experiment observing humans. I have explained why this experiment is nonsense here. 

Without further ado, let’s dive into where Simon, the character, doesn’t quite hold up.

Introduction

I will begin by dissecting Simon Alkenmayer’s “Monstrous FAQ” on his website, Creature’s Cookbook (link here)

He discusses his initial awakening on the shore of the Black Sea in the year presumed to be 1346 due to witnessing the Siege of Caffa. I have minor issues with this - his recounting of the event is vague enough to remain without inaccuracies for a siege that we have little information on to begin with. However, there is a part of his story that strikes me as... odd.

He awakens, conscious and alert, from what we can assume was being washed to sea. He finds himself quite hungry and devours a plague-ridden corpse. All well and good, but if we go down through his FAQ to the information provided about his biology and his conscious thought, I have some questions surrounding his circumstance.

Take this quote from the FAQ:

Why do you eat people?

I have to. There’s no choice. I don’t know why. I am not sure what the mechanism is, but I presume it has something to do with an enzyme or protein unique to human flesh that is acquired and used by my body. Without human flesh, I am dull, stupid, cannot hold fast to memory. I become ravenously hungry to the point of severe and unchecked violence. It isn’t a craving. It is a necessity. I have experimented greatly with it and find that certain things can change how much I need, but in general, I must eat about 10,000 calories a day, and about 2500 of that must be of human origin.

I’ll come back to this segment more later on, but for now, I’d like to focus on this:

Without human flesh, I am dull, stupid, cannot hold fast to memory. I become ravenously hungry to the point of severe and unchecked violence.

Interesting, yes?

Now, Simon doesn’t know anything from before waking up on that shore, so it’s hypothetically possible he’d have been well-fed on human flesh upon the beginning of his continuous memory without even realizing it. He states he was hungry, which shows us he hadn’t eaten enough to fill himself, and with his condition being described as:

“I opened my eyes, and there I was, and I was naked, and there was dirt and blood and I was covered in it.”

This quote is from his recounting of that first memory, here.

Is the blood his own, perhaps? Or could it be from a spurt of unchecked violence, restoring his rational thought?

If the latter, then would it be fair to assume that he wouldn’t exactly be hungry? He follows his awakening with a meal he describes as unpleasant, which I’d assume he would avoid if he weren’t starvingly hungry. If the former, and his situation has to do with being deprived of food, he would not be conscious enough to remember those initial moments, let alone the taste of his first meal. I do not think this is an unreasonable assumption on my part, but I won’t claim this is definitive proof of contradiction. There are ways to explain this discrepancy, though in my opinion, they would be quite a convenient coincidence to allow for a more interesting initial memory.

To be clear, Simon’s character is, in fact, a writer himself. If Simon admitted that he had to assume these aspects of his awakening on the shore, that would make far more sense, but he does not. I also find it rather convenient he happened to awaken during a specific and memorable historical event, but coincidences do happen.

(With that being said, Simon actually claims not to be a writer and to focus too much on the truth and not enough on the art of telling a story in an interesting way.)

The following account of Spain isn’t inaccurate to the extent of my research, though my religious knowledge isn’t the most astute; his claims surrounding the simple tradesmen of Madrid and their lack of knowledge on “demonic exorcisms” and gaining confessions could be entirely false, they seem very presumptuous given his apparent circumstance.

I won’t focus on that, though, moving on.

I would like to point to another aspect of his “experiment” that really doesn’t make sense, something I posted about here. As his “gentle readers”, Simon shouldn’t be placing any of the costs onto the audience. Do not feel obligated to pay for the author’s efforts in deceiving you and others.

Biology

Simon explains his biology as being closer to a marine creature than a mammal, which is certainly interesting, and I cannot definitively disprove the evolution of anthropomorphic non-mammals the same way I cannot disprove the existence of ghosts. I will, however, explain why the science of his biology doesn’t match the rules of how living creatures function.

Radiation. He off-handedly mentions having a lot of exposure to solar radiation and suffering no ill effects. I would like to discuss how, to my knowledge, this doesn’t make much sense. Simon’s description of his biology doesn’t mention anything about having scales of any kind, nor secreting any form of mucus coating or other physical protection against the elements. In fact, he says that he remained almost entirely clothed throughout the past several centuries (which seems contradictory to the idea that he would’ve endured a large amount of solar radiation, but I digress). Any creature without such forms of protection is going to be vulnerable to UV rays. Why is this? Well, exposure to sunlight is exposure to radiation; cells absorb light and if there isn’t a means to protect against its effects, as the forms listed above, then it will have an influence on the creation of proteins in the body. Denaturing from radiation is, in fact, one of the most common causes of skin cancer (please never use tanning beds, everyone). Simon’s body heals itself at an impressive rate and he has sustained many an injury, which actually would make his cells more prone to incorrect reproduction, something our immune system can’t detect and destroy (which is a reason why cancer is such an issue amongst living things). You see, the more your body requires you to replicate your cells for, say, healing wounds, the more of a chance that mistakes are made. If your proteins are already being exposed - unprotected - to radiation, that increases your risk of issues like cancer even moreso. For him to have not experienced any such issues with radiation, he would need an additional form of external protection. 

Joints. His description of his species’ joints as opening and closing, being springy and able to fold somewhat, doesn’t make any logistical sense and also makes it incredibly hard to believe they would be able to blend in amongst humans. I suggest actually looking into how joints work; here’s a link to get started.

Electromagnetic Fields. I would say this is one of the key areas in which Simon’s author reveals their lack of research prowess and also the area in which the more supernatural elements of Cousins run into the issue of all fictional supernatural beings. If you don’t know how biology and our body’s interactions with electromagnetism work, it would be easy to read something about how Simon’s species can somehow create and tap into these fields, influencing those around them. Problem is, we actually know how electromagnetism work, and those things don’t make sense. Any slight disruption to our magnetic field can be insanely detrimental, as our nerves require specific action potential to communicate in the first place. He states that all life has their own electromagnetic field, which is, well, false. Each cell has an electromagnetic field, the type of cell changing its strength. Our brains are more electrical than our hearts, for example (non-scientifically worded). You can read up on how we’ve even experimented with arguably the most powerful natural electromagnetic field humans regularly interact with in articles such as this one. People like ghost hunters and alternative medicine lovers will often use electromagnetism as a buzzword of sorts, trying to rationalize and legitimize what was previously called spirit, aura, or chi. None of these people actually know how electromagnetism functions; it’s a mystery to them, which is why it works so well in their superstitious ideologies. It’s honestly rather funny to me that Simon’s author chose this as their science mumbo jumbo to try and explain how Cousins can totally exist and also have “extraordinary” abilities.

Human Meat. This is the most obvious flaw in Simon’s author’s lore, the one that stuck out to me when I first discovered his social media presence. Simon states that the reason his species requires human meat (remember that quote from earlier?) is likely from some uniquely human protein or enzyme. I must breathe a deep sigh at this, because it’s simply a sad plot device and ruins the potential remaining realism from Simon’s character. Again, like with electromagnetism, enzymes and proteins aren’t a mysterious enigma to us. We have been able to pull apart our world down to the particles that make up our particles, after all. So here is the issue: there isn’t anything unique about human meat. No protein or enzyme. If there were, it wouldn’t be difficult to isolate, I’d imagine, given how much Simon devotes to research in fields such as vat-grown humans. It wouldn’t be prevalent throughout the edible human body, either. It would likely be organ-specific, as proteins and enzymes don’t just float around our tissues for fun; they each serve a purpose, useful or not. Resorting to the mystery of how humans are so unique amongst other creatures is a cheap tactic one can only get away with in fantasy, where the rules of our known universe already do not apply. But this is sci-fi, and we are already scientifically literate enough to know that isn’t how biology works. To further explain, if it were some aspect of the human biology that made Simon’s species rational, they could achieve the same effect through consuming some other variety of meat in some other concentration/quantity.

There are a few other miscellaneous things about Simon’s species’ lore that don’t add up, such as them supposedly evolving before humans, not alongside, yet requiring human meat or else going into a violent frenzy. Any knowledge on how predation works would make it obvious what the issues there are. Let’s say, in prehistoric periods, Cousins hunted indiscriminately and without mercy. They would run out of viable food, tear each other to shreds, not be able to live long enough to see any kind of sentience.

Another claim he made has to do with how much he eats and how long, therefore, a human body would last.

Myths

Up until this point, my disproving of Simon seems unprovoked beyond wanting to explain my own position. Now, however, I want to discuss the genuine harm that Simon’s author does through their obsession with their own made-up species.

One of Simon’s boldest - and honestly, most irritating - claims is that the vast majority of mythological creatures can be traced back to his species.

This is many things; arrogant, racist, childish, ignorant, and wholly disrespectful to name a few.

Especially given how much false information he attributes to different mythos from cultures the author clearly understands little to nothing about.

This is not something unique to the entry on ghouls, however. Almost every “Monstrous Myth” post on his wordpress blog lacks in the necessary nuance and cultural sensitivity it takes to discuss them. The monsters in each myth, in actuality, are rarely every based on any event. They’re stories told to unnerve people, or have their origin in traditions that Simon’s author neglects to research.

The absolute arrogance required to take one’s fictional original character and reduce cultures as a means to simply pat themselves on the back should be infuriating to anyone. These myths aren’t to be lightly talked about and rewritten to your heart’s content.

Hazbin Hotel and VivziePop Drama

I've been hearing/seeing a lot of drama concerning Hazbin Hotel and it's creator VivziePop, and while I don't know her personally or really care what people think, I do hate slander and the spread of misinformation. Truly nothing in this world upsets me more than when people believe rumours while making no effort to fact check, and that's exactly what's happening right now. That said, I wanted to try and clear up some of the rumours going around about Vivzie and the show, because I think some of them are absolutely outrageous and need to be addressed.

1. Vivzie hired an abuser onto the show.

Now, I’m not here to burn anyone at the stake, especially since I don’t know anything about Chris Niosi (the alleged abuser), who I believe openly admitted to the allegations? Regardless, this is a moot point. He’s not credited anywhere at the end of the episode. So either he was booted before production wrapped up or he had nothing to do with the show in the first place.

2. Vivzie supports bestiality.

Admittedly I thought this one might be true, since she draws so many anthropomorphic animals. In the very least, I figured she was probably a furry, but I haven't seen any evidence supporting this accusation either. Near as I can tell, this rumour started for two reasons. One, because of her famous Zoophobia comic, which revolves around a therapist named Cameron who gets assigned to work with human-like animals. Ironically, poor Cameron suffers from crippling zoophobia, which makes for some pretty decent comedy. I didn't read the whole comic because, quite frankly, it’s not my cup of tea and I just don’t have the time. But from what I saw there are no examples of bestiality anywhere in its contents.

Two, this message, which blew up all over social media:

To me, this just proves that people are more interested in virtue signalling than checking to see if their claims are actually true. Everything about this message is 100% false, which I’ll touch on in my next point.

3. Vivzie is a pedophile and she’s drawn child porn.

This is hands down the worst allegation and holy shit, I really wish people would stop using it to defame someone when they don't have any proof. This is a life-ruining accusation and you're disgusting if you believe it based solely on hearsay. This rumour began to spread when Vivzie allegedly shipped the two underage characters in the above photo and drew them NSFW-style. At the time, one character was 19 while the other was 14, and the relationship was a very illegal student-teacher relationship.

This is WRONG! The characters were not 14 and 19, they were actually 18 and 19, the legal age of consent! Additionally, the relationship wasn't student-teacher. One character is a student and the other is Alumni (a student teacher). This one pisses me off the most because it’s obvious the person who sent that message didn’t even bother to conduct any research. They said, “He’s a teacher, she’s a child.” Both characters are MALE!

Since then, Vivzie has apologised for any NSFW art she drew in the past and stated that it's not a reflection of her art today, and I'm inclined to believe her. Almost every artist has drawn NSFW content at some point in their career, and hers wasn't even distasteful. Other than this one example, there is no evidence anywhere that suggests she’s drawn “child porn”. In fact, she’s never even drawn explicit NSFW.

Please stop spreading this rumour. It’s dangerous and completely incorrect.

4. Vivzie said the "N" word!

No, she didn’t. It was a fabricated tweet. That is all.

5. Vivzie is copyright striking every video that criticises her!

No she isn't. YouTube’s DMCA is automatically striking people who are using full clips without permission. Vivzie has gone public several times, telling people exactly how to avoid getting a copy strike from the algorithm, which is something she absolutely does not have to do. At this point, she doesn't owe you anything. In my opinion, she should just sit back and watch these channels burn.

6. Vivzie copies and traces other artists’ work.

This is another one I’ve seen going around, but I looked into it as thoroughly as I could and failed to find any concrete evidence to support the allegations. As of right now, there are only two examples of Vivzie “copying” or “tracing” other artists’ work, and both of them can be explained. The first is a gif she made with a character from her Zoophobia comic, which looked a lot like the girl from ME!ME!ME!:

Damn, that’s pretty incriminating. She obviously stole-- oh, wait. This gif was part of a ME!ME!ME! MEP (multi editor’s project) and Vivzie didn’t take full credit, despite the fact that it’s not even a direct trace. It’s supposed to look like the original, which she fully cited. The second example comes from a short dance sequence from her Timber video, which seems to have been inspired by several Disney movies. As Vivzie herself stated, that was an homage to the original animations. Lots of artists and shows do this, including the beloved Stephen Universe series.

Regardless, this doesn’t count as stealing character designs or plagiarising someone’s work. It’s meant to be respectful, an admiration of other projects. Other than these two instances, however, there is no evidence of her tracing or stealing other people’s art. From what I’ve discovered, all other designs she’s been accused of “stealing” are characters she bought and paid for. They’re quite literally HER characters.

7. Vivzie supports problematic creators.

I’m getting really tired of guilt by association. Vivzie follows and enjoys some controversial figures, but who cares? We can argue all day about whether or not the accusations against them are true, but it ultimately has nothing to do with the show or Vivzie as a person. I do the exact same thing, to be honest-- follow and listen to people on all sides so I can learn, understand, and form my own opinions. The fact that some people think this is bad, to me, is absolutely mesmerising. Vivzie doesn’t control what the people she follows post, and if they do something overly questionable she publicly criticises and denounces it.

Now that that’s been dealt with, I’d like to address some complaints/claims about the actual show.

8. Vaggie is an angry Latina stereotype and a lesbian stereotype. Vivzie is appropriating Hispanic culture and misrepresenting the gay for profit.

First off, I see a lot of people passing around yet more misinformation regarding Vivzie's race. So many people seem to think she's white? Well, I'm here to tell you they're wrong. Very incorrect. Vivzie is in fact Latina, and Vaggie is meant to mirror some of her own personality traits.

Second, who is Vaggie mad at? Context matters, and if we take a look at the episode, we see that Vaggie is literally only mad at two specific people: Angel Dust and Alastor. Why? Well, for starters, it's her girlfriend's dream to run a rehab hotel for sinners, and Angel Dust nearly demolishes that dream single-handedly. Vaggie has every right to be over-the-top vitriolic. Then there's Alastor, a known sadist, narcissist, and murderer who loves trapping people in his nefarious schemes. He invites himself in, effectively takes over the hotel, and pushes both her and Charlie aside. At one point he even sexually assaults her by slapping her butt during his musical number. So yeah, I think her seething ire is totally justified. Keep in mind, however, that when she's around Charlie she's calm, collected, and happy. I wouldn't call that a stereotype.

Thirdly, the lesbian stereotypes. I keep hearing this argument but I really don't see it. Both Vaggie and Charlie have so much personality and trust for each other. Maybe I'm wrong, but the stereotype I know always totes a more butch, tomboyish woman with a ditsy, innocent, naive woman. Charlie is optimistic, but she isn't stupid. She refuses to shake Alastor’s hand because she knows he’s likely trying to screw her over. She’s also not entirely innocent herself and uses words like “fuck” and “shit”. I also wouldn’t call Vaggie butch or tomboyish. She has a cute, girly presentation, complete with a pink ribbon in her hair, lace stockings, and a dress. She's protective of her girlfriend, as I think we all are with our partners, and there's nothing wrong with that. They're flawed characters, as every character is meant to be. This isn't a problem.

9. The show is racist, sexist, homophobic, transphobic, blah, blah, blah.

I’m amazed this is even an argument. The show is supposed to be a dark comedy that takes place in HELL. You know, the place the worst of the worst end up after they die? What were you expecting? Everyone gets a shot or two fired at them, but that doesn't make them bad characters nor does it make the show itself horrible. Take, for example, Katie Killjoy, the news reporter so many people are up in arms about. She says she doesn’t “touch the gays” because she has “standards”. Well, here’s a newsflash of my own: we’re not supposed to like her! She’s an antagonist. Not to mention ten seconds later Charlie insults her and isn’t the least bit slighted by her pretentious attitude. The characters are strong and don’t take shit from anyone, because to some degree they’re all terrible people who can throw down when it’s called for.

Obviously if you don’t like the show or think it’s offensive, I’m probably not going to change your mind. That’s perfectly fine. You’re entitled to your opinions and you don’t have to watch the show. Just stop lying and stop trying to take it away from everybody else. Stop attacking Vivzie and spreading misinformation without checking the facts. I realise a lot of people probably aren’t trying to be vindictive and only want to do something good, but just remember this: the road to hell is paved with good intentions.

The gifs: There is a story to this. The first week I came to Tumblr, It was my first time on this site and the first time I share anything. I shared some content and my analysis had a lot of notes for a small creator that started just a week ago. But I made a mistake, I found a gif and posted it while crediting the gif maker. At the time I had NO idea it was wrong. I logged off and after 5 hours I log in and there was a WAR for that ONE gif. The big blog had me blocked and her friend was telling me to take it off. As soon as the person told me I did IMMEDIATELY and apologized againa and again and told them to tell the original gif maker to deblock me as I want to apologize directly and that they can block me after that. They did and I apologized but they just kept insulting me. Of course it was MY mistake and that’s why I apologized. But for them. for a mere gif (yes I say a mere gif because I made so many gifs and they were used on all platforms but I never thought it was necessary to hate that much on someone like they did to me). That blog was big and had big blog mutuals. Thanks to that, I became someone you do NOT become mutuals with but block and never reblog content from. Without any big mutuals. Without any shoutouts. Only my love for BTS, my dear followers’ support and my hard work.. My blog, became bigger and FAST (I got 10k in less than 6 months after I started) and that brought loads of jealousy and thus more rumors. Even if, I apologized and since then made my own gifs. And I made SO many gifsets that I can’t remember how many there were. What I can recall is at some point I made them daily and many times a day.

Ships Jikook? I posted content of ALL the members interactions. I was here at a time where Jikook stans and Taekook stans where always fighting. BUT I posted about both and even made so many posts to encourage loving all the members and all the interactions. I also used the tags solely used for shipping with other big tags to show that BTS’ interactions are all important and their bond is beutiful. That our fandom shouldn’t hate on a member just because they are not part of a ship we like. And wait .. even if I shipped Jikook? I got called ALL those names by someone who ship the members with readers and write sexual scenes? Like, wait ... I am truly confused. Like, write fanfic and do all you want as long as you hurt no one I guess but why am I getting hurt for doing non of it? Like according to you, the person you should be cancelling is yourself?! I am also not into cancel culture like you so hahah whatever.

Posted stalker pics: well wow the story changes each time. Next thing you will hear that I was the one holding a camera for a member in a Vlive lol. Let me teach you about this update thing I was doing. I follow accounts I trust and that’s how we get info circulating fast. I always do reasearch but sometimes mistakes are made. For example when lately people shared pictures of BTS leaving their virtual concerts and schedules. There was a watermark of a news outlet. Normally we trust those but only later we realized that those people stalked BTS. You clearly can’t know it all. But I still didn’t share many pics related to many events (I will not name those as pple can search them even now because some pple never deleted those). And all big accounts shared many pics then deleted later. This happens all the time but it happened like ONCE for me. However, I am called a stalker for that? 

When Jonghyun passed away ... I don’t even wanna recall that night as the memories just ... when that happened I posted about it and send my condolescences. that post had over 10k notes and was at the top the tag. Why did I do that? I was devastated. Yes, many were but I will talk about me rn: I was suicidal the days before that and one of the songs that I listened to when I was broken where by him. I has been in the kpop world since 2006. And learned about his group since their debut with ‘Replay’. I was never a stan but I still knew of many groups and listened to all the songs I liked. I was very sad when he was gone and ANGRY mostly. Why is this angel leaving? Why is someone like me still here? Why did I not leave instead of him? How much did he suffer? So I deleted it FAST but it kept being reblogged and I kept getting hate and people telling me: “Go kill yourself”... the sad part is that I almost did as my answer was “true ... why am I still here?” I apologized and logged off then to this day won’t forget crying at 3 AM while walking outside next to my dad. I was outside as I couldn’t breathe anymore and the idea of seeing the walls of my room was hell. I cried and cried and the teary eyes that my father looked at me with are something I am ashamed of to this day. To add one more thing while I am spilling the beans. I hate learning about someone dying. My grandma passed away sometime before that and it was so shocking to me. and some people came and told me when I was mourning her: Go follow that bitch of grandmother of yours. And for what? At that moment I didn’t think I would live to see the next year but I went to therapy and took medecine that was hurting and made me shake all day just to turn somewhat sane. No one knew tho ... I smiled all day and cried all night.. Even on the blog I fought no one of the ones who hated me. I just blocked them but even that was an insult to them?

It's obvious that Jared didn't know about any of this and was shocked by it and then had a pathetic meltdown on twitter. He even openly insulted Robbie Thompson, a writer, by calling him a coward.

It seems like Thompson, Bobo Berens, Kripke etc all knew but Jared didn't know about it, like, AT ALL??? And supposedly Jared and Jensen are ''BFF'' and ''brothers''. Lmao give me a break!!

This fall out has started way back, and I think you guys deep down know the reasons for this fall out but refuse to admit it. If Ackles family announced this project this means they have not been only thinking about it but also working on it together. With the addition and creation of Chaos Machine and their contract with WB, they have been planning this project for quite some time. Maybe even a year or so.

You guys are saying ''but Jensen told Jared about the potential SPN project before!!!!'' dude... casually mentioning doesnt mean shit. It still proves that Jensen&Danneel didnt want to include Jared at all and actually more than that even. They probably wanted him to not even hear about it. Not even learn that they have been working on this project.

In this case they have been planning and working on this project (with the creation of Chaos Machine also), then that means 'J2 fall out theory' has been going on for quite a while. Also Ackles and Pads families' fall out, and their disconnection from each other.

Not surprised. Pads have been acting quite cringe and like entitled people whom never learn or change. If I were Jensen or D, I'd want to cut them off too. Doesnt mean J2 are supposedly this two ''brothers UwU'' who care so much about each other and has been friends for years. No, shit. I've cut my ties with my parents and other friends whom I knew for more than 20 years!

It doesnt help that Pads' actions just worsen it. Jared is nothing but a man baby for not only going after Jensen but publically calling a writer coward in front of millions. Everyone is making fun of Jared now, and quite honestly he deserves it. He never changes or learns, as if he's a fucking baby or something. Dude's a middle aged man, for gods sake. Stop acting like he's a kid. He doesn't deserve pity for his incompetence and pathetic and entitled responses.

Anyways, fall out theory is real. I think there are a tons of reasons for that fall out (again, even if some of those reasons are the things you guys will never admit but...) this fallout didnt surprise me but I would be lying if I said that Jared's man child meltdown didnt catch me by surprise. All in all, what comes around goes around.

I can't speak for anyone else but to me it seems like Jared knew that there was a possibility. Jensen mentioned doing something Supernatural related that would have some of the cast on there. So Jared couldn't have been completely blindsided by it because Jensen mentioned the possibility TO HIM. As for them working on it for a long time, I'm not sure how long they've been actually working on it seriously. Jensen mentioned it at the panel, but if I understand correctly, the show is just in the early stages, so it wouldn't be something they would be working on for a year or something.

As for the families falling out, I think people have noticed the lack of "family togetherness" with them for a long time now. I know the wives sometimes comment to each other or like posts, but that's a rarity. I think there has been tension with the families since Gen blew up at Jensen and JDM even got involved. There was a reason Gen wasn't at the Morgan wedding and it wasn't because she was "watching the kids". I do agree that the Ackles' are smart for distancing themselves though because the Pads' are incapable of behaving like actual adults.

Just take a look at the difference between Jensen's social media posts and Jared's posts. Jensen has had virtually no drama, no embarrassing meltdowns or insensitive tweets. Then you get Jared who has had numerous tantrums, made some really gross comments about other people, etc. Don't even get me started on the differences in the wives either. The Ackles' are smart with PR and smart about their image and behavior. Have they made mistakes? Of course, everyone has, but not to the extent of Jared's mistakes.

Jared continues to act like an ass because no one ever holds him accountable for his actions. They just coddle him because "he's just emotional and needs to be protected" and because he has "mental illness". That's another whole thing because the fact that he's a "mental health advocate", he sure does a lot of damage by using his mental illness as a crutch to be an asshole.

The J2 fallout came as a surprise to me. Maybe I haven't been in the know for long enough though. I think they definitely weren't as close as they once were, but didn't expect a Jared Brand Twitter Fit aimed at Jensen.

Maybe this will teach Jared to think before he tweets. Maybe....

I’ve been watching a lot of b99 lately (stressful week, did not feel up to working on New Things), and somehow tonight my brain made some connections and offered me the prompt of what if b99 crossover with gargoyles and now I can’t shut up about it. Please let me know if this fic already exists somewhere, because I don’t think I can write it and I am dying to read it. I’ll probably try anyway, but those are not fandoms I have written much decent fic for soooo...

Anyway, the whole premise I came up with:

-one or all of the trio caught some criminals in the 99th and, as per elisa’s explanations of how precincts work, left them tied up on the doorstep for the cops to handle

-the 99 doesn’t usually have the gargoyle-adjacent cases since they stick to elisa’s precinct, and are baffled by this. Jake thinks it’s a superhero, clearly. Gina reads the tabloids with gargoyle conspiracy theories but i’m not sure exactly when this comes up. Oh, probably the criminals babble about winged monsters, Gina brings up the gargoyle stories, Jake counters with “that’s what people thought about Batman!”

-the member of the trio that dropped the criminals off also left a note which is equally baffling. The note is intended to point them towards the evidence to bring the criminals to justice but--Holt notes--reads like Jake wrote it. Correction, a teenaged jake with no respect or understanding of proper procedure. (...which makes me feel it was probably Broadway, using a mix of modern and noir slang)

-elisa’s frustrated that the gargoyles didn’t leave the criminals at her precinct so she could smooth things over, even though it’s probably slightly more legal to keep them in the correct precinct. And the criminals may be connected to something gargoyle-universe-bigger, so then Elisa starts petitioning to get the case transferred to her. The 99 Does Not Like Her. Although I feel like Rosa does a little. Some respect or something, idk.

-the 99 finds a few links between this case and Xanatos Enterprises, and also notes the weird history Elisa has with Xanatos--first there’s a vendetta, then he’s always personally requesting her to prove himself and she’s invited to his wedding and the birth of his son? And she’s got a free pass to wander into his home whenever she wants? ...of course the 99 concludes they had or are having an affair and she’s getting paid off.

-I don’t know how to get from point a to point b but

-when the 99 finds the truth and meets the gargoyles? Jake shows Broadway Die Hard and Elisa will never forgive him for that. Holt and Kevin start inviting Goliath to their dinner parties and Kevin likes Goliath more than Jake. Charles, upon learning how much Broadway enjoys eating, insists on treating him to what Charles considers to be the best New York has to offer, and starts off delighted somebody enjoys it all as much as he does, and ends up frustrated that Broadway’s palate is completely indiscriminate and he hasn’t actually found a fellow foodie, just a guy who happily eats anything. Gina wants to manage their reveal to the public and make them celebrities and/or social media celebrities, riding the wave to her own success. Lexington learns that Holt is gay and married to a man and is floored because he didn’t realize that was allowed. (we are setting this vaguely present day, gargoyles timeline is somewhere between the gathering and hunter’s moon, b99 timeline is after Amy and Jake are together but before they’re married, I’ll pin it down more if I ever write it, and the b99 date is roughly the correct one; Lexington has simply not been around openly gay people who talked about it around him, and his forays on the internet were all about technology and hacking and stuff, making it virtually impossible for him to deduce anything; he might have worked out the word is sometimes used as an insult and that is considered Not Cool.) (don’t worry, we are just going to politely ignore anything from gargoyles that suddenly makes no sense if it’s set 20ish years later, unless I think up solutions I think are clever.)

-somebody says something about xanatos being clean lately. Somebody else possibly Jake points out that he’s a billionaire and it’s physically impossible to become a billionaire without doing crime.

-Holt considers Xanatos’ tower to be a disgusting eyesore, and will rant about how disrespectful it is to the history of the castle at length to anyone who will listen. Probably citing Theseus’ ship ad nauseum.

-Jake is bi in this fic (honestly been watching s6 and I am genuinely surprised that’s not just canon. He canonically expresses way too much canonical attraction to canonically hot men to be straight.), and he finds Goliath super attractive. Hell, if they actually encounter Xanatos in this fic, probably Xanatos too. After spending ages giving Elisa a hard time for the affair he insists she was having with Xanatos, he meets Xanatos and is immediately like “...okay, I get it” (Elisa: “you thought I was what. oh my god no.”)
