Hi, hope you're well.
What type of vehicle (non-motor options also welcome) would the gaang + others own/use? But also which vehicle would they like to have (so like a dream vehicle)
aang: one of those kids who bikes everywhere like he’s in an 80s movie. he’d probably get some kind of eco-friendly electric car. or he’d find a way to paraglide everywhere idk
katara: ideologically opposed to cars, exclusively takes public transport (or just straight up walks, or if she’s really desperate, makes sokka drive her), but it is a secret dream of hers to have a really cool badass motorcycle, even though she is fully aware of how dangerous they are (or at least, so she claims). fwiw jet and haru both ride motorcycles; jet’s is really loud fuckoff motorcycle, whereas haru’s is more like a cute little green moped
sokka: he can drive, but because it’s his family’s car, he only drives it when absolutely necessary, bc the thought of getting a single scratch on it and disappointing gran gran, his absent father, or even his mother’s ghost, is a thought too nerve-wracking to bear. his dream vehicle is an efficient nationwide high speed rail. his slightly more realistic dream vehicle is that car from james bond (yes i know it’s an aston martin im talking specifically about the aston martin from the bond films that q modifies in various ways don’t @ me)
toph: her family probably has a chauffeur. she obviously cannot drive, nor does she care about breeds of cars. she’d like driving in a fast convertible though for the feeling of the wind in her hair
zuko: also grew up with a chauffer. never learned how to drive bc he has no depth perception. which is a very good thing because his road rage would be atrocious. his dream vehicle is probably a beautiful dappled grey horse.
suki: she drives/lives in her pickup truck. she wishes she drove/lived in a slightly bigger pickup truck, or perhaps a red ferrari
mai: she was born to ride the new york city subway. she loves to hop the turnstile even though she can afford it, but it’s not about that. it’s about the principle ($2.90 is simply appalling), and most importantly, it’s about the thrill of it. however, i do think she’d enjoy driving too, if only because she loves fingerless leather gloves. she doesn’t really need a car to wear that though.
ty lee: she’s a very sensible driver. she’s never gotten a ticket but if she did she would get out of it masterfully. her dream car is that toy pink convertible barbie drives in the barbie movie.
azula: never learns how to drive because she never needs to learn: she does not drive, she is driven. she doesn’t care what kind of car she’s being driven in, as long as it’s noticeably expensive. one time mai makes her ride the subway with her and she is scared out of her mind. she expresses that fear through loud disgust

hi, can I ask number 1 and 7 for the violence ask game?
1. the character everyone gets wrong
yknow what im gonna go ahead and say zuko. i think there's a tendency to soften all his rough edges in fic, but like. that boy may fundamentally be well-intentioned and kind-hearted but he is also, fundamentally, a dickhead. i think we all love zuko's redemption arc so much that we forget just how much of a boneheaded little piece of shit he is in book 1. he yells at everything! he's hot tempered and impulsive! and like sure, in post-canon he's certainly matured, but i think he's always going to be a little short-tempered and prickly, because that's just what his personality is like. and it feels disingenuous to turn him into this soft sweet emotionally mature boy just because the war is over (or in modern aus as well)
7. what character did you begin to hate not because of canon but because how how the fandom acts about them?
already answered!

hi hi, for the ao3 wrapped, can I ask 17, 19 and 20?
17. Your favorite character to write this year?
This is a tough one! Part-Time Plumber, Full-Time Problem Sokka was a real blast, Zuko in Lessons in Proper Asset Management was great, but it might actually be adult Jet in some of the tumblr prompts I've gotten, he was so fun to write grown up and still feral but now with more direction.
19. What’s one pairing you want to explore next year?
So many! I wrote out four things and then realized the question is 'one' lol so--I'd love to have the time to finally flesh out and get started on my Jeeko idea :)
20. Which work of yours have you reread the most?
Already answered here!
For this AO3 Wrapped ask game!

I am doing well thank you for asking :> I’m finally mostly done with moving, so going to take it easy tomorrow because I have basically been busy all week.
But of course I can draw Madge and Katniss, I’m also a sucker for content about them.

this is a series of shots of Bruce Springsteen looking hot. while this is a bit of "what were *you* doing at the devil's sacrament", why be into these 3 guys from jersey when this 1 guy from jersey has all of their charisma and sex appeal of all 3 of them put together?
FIRST OF ALL
Why are you acting like the Jonas brainrot is a fucking CHOICE?!?!?! I hate this fixation as much as you guys do. But I need them for survival purposes right now. Once my mental health stabilizes I'll probably be able to be more "normal" about them again.
SECONDLY
Do you know HOW MUCH fanfiction how much SMUT I've written about Bruce? Besties. That was my fucking GUY! He is 100% on the "I wanna fuck that old man" list.
Like BRO YOU HAVE NO FUCKING IDEA! I am so mentally ill about this man.

Every time I'm reminded of white sokka, I think of that one keke palmer video where she goes, “I don't know who this man is” but if I'm being honest, it applies to almost all of them in the natla version
aang and zuko had their charm if I’m being honest (and ken leung just straight up slayed) but yeah. especially every female character. just straight up butchered. this show hates women so much it’s unreal (and i’m including sokka in that BECAUSE they made him cis). although, in response to keke palmer, I actually might have preferred watching dick cheney. at least he’s actually aware of the invasion of iraq (I mean, obviously), which is something this show seems completely oblivious to despite it being central to the political and thematic core of the original.

Hi, hope you're well.
How would you rate the gaang + fire ladies' ability to work in customer service?
(there are so many fics of sokka working in retail and mai working in flowershops and I just don't think they're built like that— sokka has no patience for dumb questions and mai would probably rather die)
wait that’s so funny they literally are not built to serve people like that they’d kill themselves. especially mai i cannot imagine her having any kind of working class job and i know she hates flowers thinks they’re disgusting!!! i could see sokka being a tutor (in my modern au that’s how he meets toph. bc she drives everyone else away but then he meets her and he’s like “why ?? she is so cool”) and even working at the jasmine dragon (iroh is a chill boss so that’s why) but he could NOT do retail he’d kill himself before working black friday (in my modern au they’re also in new jersey. bc that’s very funny to me). but anyway!!
aang: i think he’d hate having to answer to someone else like just doing something he was told to do that he does not want to do ever would make his skin crawl. but when it comes to interacting with people even the worst rudest customers he is very friendly. even as a twelve year old he’s extremely patient (except when you are keeping him apart from a loved one, which is understandable!)
katara: i actually think katara working at a local coffee shop or smth is very plausible. she would have a tier ranking of all the regular customers in her head (and maybe even on paper) and she would treat them accordingly, ranging from excessive flirting to passive aggressive eye twitch. she’s good at her job for a communist who also needs to be liked by everyone at all times or she’ll die!
sokka: when he thinks a customer is stupid or annoying he starts talking slower and using smaller words in such an infuriatingly condescending way, but with the plausible deniability of “he was just being helpful” so that he can never actually get in trouble for it. but they both know he was being an asshole!!!!
toph: she needs to tell it like it is every five minutes or she’ll literally die it’s like a source of air for her. but i do think customer service would be good for her. she would enjoy it more than being a c*p that’s for sure! (low blow, sorry.)
zuko: okay well we see him be a tea server and the reviews are mixed. i think the thing about zuko that you have to understand is that if he is in a good mood he is a delight to have around and if he is in a bad mood he is a monster and his vibes ruin every room he’s in. so his proficiency at customer service is also just entirely dependent on how he is feeling at any given moment. i think he’d be happy serving tea once he’s the firelord though because it’s nostalgic and a respite for him. not so much when he’s an angry teen in ba sing se and he wants to be anywhere else.
suki: she’d be good at it because she is good at everything but she would definitely employ sokka’s plausibly deniable tactics of condescension. she has a lot more patience for people than sokka does, but she’d still enjoy messing with people, maybe even just out of boredom.
ty lee: she pretends to be stupid on purpose with customers she doesn’t like and when they try to complain to her manager she’s like “i am the manager” and when they question how she’s still allowed to work despite being so incompetent everyone else vouches for her they’re like “she’s literally our best employee.”
mai: would kill herself before that ever happened.
azula: see above, but also i think it could be good for her.

Hello, how would you rank the gaang+fire ladies in a best sense of style to worst of sense of style?
oooh fun! wait, is this modern au or not?? just in case, i’ll do both…
toph is the worst, obviously. she has no sense of style whatsoever. she does have her little pom pom opera headband, which is very cute, and honestly her fire nation fit is the cutest one (sorry katara), but i don’t think she actually gives a shit about any of that, she just happens to slay regardless because she can’t not slay. in modern au she mostly wears large shirts and sweatpants and flip flops, and yet somehow she still looks remarkably good “dressed like a slob” (katara’s words) because she is simply beautiful enough to pull it off.
i don’t think zuko has a bad sense of style, i actually think a lot of his outfits are genuinely cute (i esp love his one tank top in book 1 that’s such a look imo), but like toph, he also isn’t really putting effort in, so it’s not so much a “sense of style” as it is in his nature to serve cunt. in modern au he actively tries to spice up his wardrobe (with katara’s help), but then he never actually wears any of the stuff they bought together because he needs his emotional support favorite cardigan and/or black turtleneck. he can pull it off because he looks cute and cozy, but no is mistaking him for an expert in fashion any time soon.
i always wonder how aang found those monk’s robes in book 3, whether he made them himself, and if so, with which fabrics. so in that sense, he’s actually a diy style icon. but in modern au, he literally dresses like roman roy in the finale, walmart boys’ color block t shirt, so i’m docking points even though, again, he does look adorable and it is a Look in its own right. the light up heelys also add or dock points depending on who you ask.
from book 2 onward, sokka has a nice, simple outfit that is a good cut and a good color without being remotely flashy or complicated, and he accessorizes with weapons, which are both practical and spice up his outfit. “like toph, he also doesn’t give a shit about his looks, it’s just a coincidence that he looks good,” one could argue. but i think he knew what he was doing with that sleeveless top. and besides, he was excited by the fact that his bag matched his belt. in modern au, sokka doesn’t give a shit about style until adulthood, because he and katara just focus on their respective domains and thus katara has the monopoly on fashion, but then he starts figuring out his gender and sexuality and the world of fashion opens up for him. that said, his idea of going crazy is like, wearing a couple rings, so he’s still towards the middle bottom of this list.
azula doesn’t really have a sense of personal style, she just wears what she thinks looks best for her circumstances, and since her goal is to intimidate, she happens to slay. but if she was like, a farmer, she would not be bothering with the winged eyeliner and red lipstick and perfect hair, because that is a product of her environment rather than an internally motivated mode of self-expression. so in modern au, she trades shoulder spikes for shoulder pads, and knee high boots for tastefully high heels, but the effect is the same. respect me, fear me, take me seriously in my navy blue blazer.
suki never really gets to pick her own outfits unless you count the fire nation crop top, which is cute but obviously wouldn’t be her first pick in garb. that said, the kyoshi warrior armor obviously goes so hard and she looks great in it, so she’s a style icon just for that. in modern au, she dresses in a way that is deceptively simple but knows that it makes her look really hot to her target demographic (dykes and sokka). she generally just opts for flannel and cargo shorts, but on days where she’s on a mission, she’ll wear a short sleeved loose button up with half the sleeves undone, some necklaces, and no bra. and she’s a hero for that.
mai’s outfit is actually my favorite in the entire show (like, i would wear it), but there’s something kind of cutesy about her hair style that i feel like was probably imposed on her by her mother. like don’t get me wrong, it still looks good on her, but i can’t see her actually caring to maintain something so elaborate without the presence of external pressures. i can picture modern au mai’s sense of style so perfectly, though. soft flared pants, in a silky fabric; turtleneck tank tops; leather jackets: dark peacoats; dyke boots to stomp around in; mostly in various shades of dark red, dark blue, and black. she keeps it simple and classy, and has the freedom to experiment with hair styles more as well. when she’s alone, everyone is envious of her effortlessly chic steez, and yet, when she is with ty lee, everyone’s like “awww it’s cute that ty lee lets that kind of schlubby girl hang around her.”
ty lee puts effort into her appearance for the purposes of attracting specific results. she knows she’s beautiful, of course, but she also wants to be beautiful in a cute way, harmless and inviting. pink is less threatening than red, showing skin makes her seem vulnerable and desirable, her braid is simultaneously perfect and kind of messy. in modern au, ty lee would similarly be attuned to the cultivation of her aesthetic for a similar purpose. she wouldn’t just wear whatever she felt like, but rather would have an extremely curated wardrobe of outfits that all adhere to the same theme of making her look impossibly beautiful but in a cute and harmless way. idk man. there’s something wrong with her, i think, but also that thing might just be patriarchy.
katara is the only character who canonically takes an interest in fashion for the sake of fashion (iirc), and so that immediately elevates her in my opinion. she clearly cares a not insignificant amount about her appearance, and takes pride in looking good (as she should, because she’s beautiful). i love the idea that she got her book 2 outfit in the northern water tribe and was so excited about getting a new fit that she literally wore it the entire season even though it was springtime and she was sweating buckets. she’s so excited about dressing up in ba sing se, or when they steal clothes in the fire nation, or when she gets to take kyoshi’s clothing in “avatar day,” or when she goes to the spa with toph, or when she’s telling aunt wu about her skincare routine. it matters to her! and i think that as she gets older, and more resources are available, she gets to expand and experiment with her wardrobe more, and that’s really fun for her. and in modern au, she’d also love fashion of course, and would have a lot of opinions on how to participate in fashion ethically. her wardrobe would be kind of all over the place because it’s mostly thrifted, but she’d put so much effort into curating an outfit every day before she leaves the house, and she can go weeks if not months without repeating an outfit, not because she has an unlimited wardrobe, but because she’s really clever and thoughtful when it comes to what she pairs together on any given day. and she sometimes makes her own clothing, or modifies thrifted pieces, and that somehow looks great on her too. my point is, she wins in a landslide.

Hi, do you know where I can find a pdf of the legacy of yangchen, I'm nearly done with the dawn of yangchen, but I cannot find a loy pdf ANYWHERE.
In other news, kavik&kalyaan and yangchen&jetsun make me mentally ill!! There's a line where jujinta is talking to kavik about how he can never forgive himself for the death of his brother, because “the person who could forgive me is not there anymore” and “some acts just cannot be forgiven” and I can't help but see the parallels in this story (and jujinta's character) betw. kavik, yangchen and their guilt over the loss of their older siblings. After the conversation kavik has with kalyaan (he's so funny btw), the fact that he blames himself for kalyaan losing his fingers in the blizzard and the hunts going bad which eventually leads to his family moving to bin-er and losing kalyaan in the first place; I really can't help but connect him with that phrase “some acts just cannot be forgiven” because he never forgave himself for the loss of kalyaan even though kalyaan very much CHOSE to abandon their family in order to work for henshe.
yangchen blames herself for jetsun's death in the spirit world, even though she was just a small child who couldn't control how her past lives affected her and jetsun would never be able to live with herself if she let yangchen die. It doesn't matter how much good she does, she can never forgive herself for her sister's death because “the person who could forgive me is not there anymore”
Jujinta also has the habit of asking forgiveness from the spirits whenever he does wrong (basically whenever he does his job), because his brothers is dead and he needs to find forgiveness SONEWHERE. I think it serves as a nice parallel to how yangchen hates how she has to too often rely on sneakier, morally questionable methods in order to do good, because she feels that she's disappointing jetsun by being this type of avatar. But the more good she does, the more people she helps, the more she is becoming the avatar jetsun saved, etc.
Sorry this is long and maybe inaccurate since I haven't entirely finished the book. But I really love your analysis of these novels and I wish more people read them.
yes! I absolutely endorse this reading, and honestly have nothing to add because I don’t really remember the details of the first book very well (it’s been a couple years since I read it, and I read the whole thing in a day). but I approve this message. also you definitely wouldn’t want to download the legacy of yangchen from z-lib or libgen, because that would be piracy, which is wrong. and if you do, you can’t consider me an accomplice to your egregious crime, because I was explicitly telling you what NOT to do. so there.

hi, I'm back again with the jujinta parallels after finishing the legacy of yangchen (it's definitely my favourite of the avatar novels and is in my top ten books I think) and so sorry for how long this is (i have too many thoughts about them):
I think it's really interesting how yangchen and kavik are governed by three things 1)“some acts cannot be forgiven”; 2)“the one who could forgive me is not there anymore”; and 3) jujinta's old habit of begging forgiveness from the spirits each time he does wrong since he cannot ask forgiveness from his brother.
1) kavik never truly learns to forgive himself for any of his actions. he has blamed himself for kalyaan's suffering ever since they were kids and never considers that maybe kalyaan did these to himself and thus should be properly held accountable for his own actions. even after finally outsmarting his brother and hurting him in a way that FINALLY leaves a mark; kavik still wants to protect him (granted there is kavik has a nephew now. which).
but also right to the very end of the book, kavik never forgives himself for betraying yangchen, even though she tells him that she has forgiven him and thus he doesn't have to serve her in order to get in her good graces anymore.
as for yangchen, we see her give up more and more parts of herself by going against her own moral code for the sake of protecting the world. such as when she “made jailers out of her people” by holding the firebenders and henshe in the northern air temple. when yangchen does wrong, even if it's for a good cause, she welcomes punishment such as her calm acceptance of being exiled from the northern air temple and also her acceptance of the knowledge that her people would hardly accept her as theirs after her death with all the un-air nomad things she has done in the name of protecting the world.
2) and 3) pretty much go in tandem: in yangchen's case, she wants to be the avatar she believes jetsun wanted her to be: good, just, honest, inspiring, etc. especially because jetsun died to save yangchen and also because yangchen was powerless to stop the spirit attack. but the world doesn't afford her that luxury, so she has to make one morally questionable decision after the other and this kills her each and every time. however, she DOES get her forgiveness after finding jetsun in the spirit fog. the scene with yangchen and jetsun is so powerful because yangchen finally admits out loud how she doesn't want to be the avatar anymore as all this job has given was suffering and more suffering, but also she can't give it up, but she doesn't quite understand WHY she can't just give up. and jetsun replies with how taxing it was taking care of yangchen and how she pretty much gave up whole parts of herself to be yangchen's primary caretaker, but that she wouldn't change it because she loves yangchen. they are both in very emotionally draining and mentally taxing places in life, but also acknowledge that it's where they're meant to be. a very beautiful scene.
for kavik, he doesn't believe that he deserves yangchen's forgiveness at any point in the story and he accepts that she never will. so he gives himself up to yangchen's service, even when she urges him not to. his need to be forgiven by her even trumps his need to protect kalyaan in the end with the whole plot to get stabbed and “tortured” in front of kalyaan thus really taking advantage of kalyaan's weakness (which wasn't something kavik would have even thought to do a few chapters before). this shifts “the one who could forgive me” from kalyaan to yangchen. so like jujinta, who found new purpose/way to find forgiveness in serving yangchen while not entirely forgiving himself for his brother's death; kavik finds a new purpose in seeking unearned (in his opinion) forgiveness in yangchen's service, while also forgiving himself to admit that kalyaan earned his own punishment.
(sorry this was so long, I just have a lot of thoughts about the dawn of yangchen jujinta/kavik/yangchen parallels and how much being forgiven by someone whose forgiveness seems/is unattainable (including yourself) is such a big part of the characters' journey)
this is beautifully put! i really have nothing to add here, since you basically said it all. thank you :)

Hi, hope you're well.
I feel like Zuko is good at math, he just hates it with a passion.
okay, as someone who has always hated math (for the sake of math, i love physics) because i grew up with a math prodigy who thinks that math is literally the only important thing ever, but was nonetheless always “good at math” in my own right (i didn’t teach myself calculus at age seven but i always got 100% on psets), i totally get that.
azula is the math sibling, and therefore zuko does not even bother attempting it. he could probably comprehend it fine if he wanted to, but the thought of trying to do something that azula can already do effortlessly is so upsetting for him. even basic arithmetic, he’s just like “i don’t do that.” katara is the same way. if math needs to happen, that is sokka’s job. after all, everyone is always praising him for how good he is at doing math. therefore it is not her problem. would zuko and katara be good at math if they did not have insufferable math prodigy siblings? who’s to say. as it is, this is them on a daily basis:

hello, since you did a mitski+gaang post, which mitski songs would you associate with yangchen, kavik and korrasami?
i should’ve done these in chronological order by album but I didn’t so please excuse the disjointedness. also this got kind of long so im putting it under a readmore…
“i’m your man” is SUCH a kavik & kalyaan and asami & hiroshi song. ugh
“bug like an angel” korra alone anthem
also “i don’t like my mind”
“when memories snow” is so yangchen and her past lives…
“the frost” kavik/yangchen breakup song (you’re my best friend, now i have no one to tell, of how i lost my best friend)
“I love me after you” asami & hiroshi and also korra & zaheer song (they’re king of all the land!!!)
“remember my name” is THEE ultimate korra song to me.
“me and my husband” is also an asami & hiroshi song. to me.
“a pearl” is such a yangchen and her past lives song….. (nobody told me it ended)
“why didn’t you stop me” the kavik/yangchen post-betrayal breakup anthem
“old friend” is a mako & korra & asami song…. reconciling with your ex moments
“come into the water” is so asami needing korra to make the first move…. (maybe i’m the same as all those men writing songs of all their dreaming…)
“liquid smooth” is also. you guessed it. an asami & hiroshi song.
as, of course, is “wife.”
“abbey” is another extremely existential korra song about legacy and identity
“brand new city” is asami’s internal monologue but she just never shows it
“pearl diver” is the ultimate chaisee song ever. i know you didn’t ask about her but like. this is THE chaisee song. if you even care
“real men” obviously another asami & hiroshi song. of course
“fireworks” is a korra song bc it’s literally the depression anthem of all time and, well.
“my body’s made of crushed little stars” is also a korra (alone) song. she’s not doing anything!
“a burning hill” is also an asami & hiroshi song. you might be thinking i’m insane at this point, but then i invite you to remember. that yasuko was literally killed by fire.
“goodbye my danish sweetheart” obviously a kavik/yangchen breakup song (kavik’s pov of course) i mean duh.
“strawberry blond” asami pining for korra moments…..
“class of 2013” another korra alone song and god what a song it is!
“valentine, texas” is a yangchen/kavik song no i will not elaborate on that
“working for the knife” WOULD be an asami song if lok understood that capitalism is bad. and yet. alas.
“stay soft” is a yangchen & kavik & chaisee & kalyaan song. naturally.
“everyone” another korra alone song.
“heat lightning” another existential korra song.
“the only heartbreaker” another kavik/yangchen breakup song from kavik’s pov
“texas reznikoff” is sooo korrasami (but i’ve been everywhere and it’s not what i want… i wanna be still with you…)
“first love / late spring” is, again, an asami & hiroshi (and kavik & kalyaan) song
“francis forever” is a korrasami and yangvik pining from a distance anthem
“I don’t smoke” is soooo asami & hiroshi and kavik & kalyaan. sorry
“jobless monday” yet another korra alone anthem
“I will” is SOOO korrasami it’s like the korrasami thesis statement
“carry me out” yangchen & korra (and every avatar’s) existential crisis moments. also a perfect note to end on bc it’s my favorite mitski song <3
