oooh boy i am in the midst of rewatching season 2 of Legends of Tomorrow and Sara's entire arc from assassin to captain means so much to me
(rambling under cut and kind of spoilery ig)
like. Stein's "you're no longer an assassin, you're a captain." and then a few episodes later her choosing to save him over the amulet bc she views the team as her family and she can't save her sister but she can save them oooughhh
also continuing into one of the later seasons (either 3 or 4 idk), when Zari says to Sara "you aren't just the captain of the ship, you're it's soul" WHEN SARA HAS STRUGGLED WITH WHO SHE IS AND WHAT HER SOUL MEANS TK HER??
Godd I love it sm. And in S2 when she's still trying to deal with being a captain and the fact that Rip is MIA and she probably felt so inadequate for it but her team shows literally nothing but support to her and are always like "okay so what's next captain" and they (almost) always ask her what to do hshsj
Her struggling with a place in the team in S1 being nothing more than an assassin to Rip but then S2 rolls around and she's a captain and the team (her family!!!) looks to her for guidance and I don't think they really understand how much they mean to her but its just she grows SO well into the role of captain
Everybody who joins the team doesn't even question it, Gideon never stops calling her the captain (and rewatching S1 felt so weird when Gid called Sara Ms. Lance and not Captain Lance), and then when Ava comes around literally the entire team is like "oh okay another time mom. co-captain 🥰"
Sara loves her lil band of misfits so much and I feel like she doesn't realize how much they love her (Jax saying she needs to be captain and he can't be captain in S2 E11, Rory talking to her abt being the only 2 ogs left in S6, Nate treating her like an older sister, Zari and her lowk bonding over dead siblings, etc etc) but theyre a little family and yeah theyre a lil messed yp and broken but they have each other!!
I could talk abt Sara for years guys she's my favorite character from LoT
anyways tldr i really enjoy Sara's assassin/teammate - the (figurative) soul of the ship arc

Hi, everyone!
You can call me Prow or Warren. He/him, trans man, from the USA. 23 years old. I'm just a disabled guy that enjoys posting on Tumblr (most of the time, anyway.. lol).
I have a lot of interests, but to name a few, ARK: Survival Evolved, Magic: the Gathering, Pokémon, House MD, and Skylanders all come to mind. That's surely not all you'll find here though. I have plenty of "blorbos from my mutuals" by now 😛 There's some Minecraft, some Legend of Zelda, some Owl House, some Vox Machina, etc etc.
I'm also a huge movie nerd and have been rewatching a lot of old movies and shows lately. You'll see lots of sudden and random posts about that too.
I don't mess around with DNIs. I don't have the time to check every individual blogger I interact with and hunt down their DNI. If I do something you don't like, just block me. I do the same, so I don't have a DNI either 👍
If you'd like to help support me, my P-yp-l and C-sh-pp links are below, as are some examples of my art. I take digital art commissions, typically $40 for a full-color illustration and $20 for a grayscale one. Backgrounds may be extra dependent on their complexity. I ask for 50% upfront and the other 50% after the work is finished.

sorry for the number of pictures I took but this sequence is literally perfect
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
there's tonpa, hiding when he sees killua
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
there's that irrelevent trio who think they could possibly provide killua a challange
Tumblr media Tumblr media
and there's zepile, who literally put his organs on the line for gon to get his license back. harsh. on the other hand, zepile would probably have died if he'd tried to take the exam for real. stick to antiques, zepile!
Tumblr media
and we end with perhaps the best frame in the arc. iconic killua moments

The introduction in the donghua of demonic cultivator!Wei Wuxian just after burial mounds is SO fucking juicy and iconic. He's got birds. He's got green flames. He's got red eyes. He floats on a fucking cloud of resentful energy. He rips out Wen Zhuliu's golden core in one fucking stroke. He's got a new hairdo.

I'm kind of drunk so I'm listening to different variations of the same few songs over and over. It's a good time. I'm also exhausted because I slept 5 hours then worked 10 hours, 4th day in a row. BUT I'm off 4 days yeyeyeyey so I'm drunk and singing in bed sleepy :-)))))))))) Anthony Stewart Head was FLEXIBLE when he was young my god. Also tom curry had blonde hair when he first did rocky horror in 1973 before he went back to his natiral colour. I watched the film last week but I might 'rewatch again

I actually like CQL, but the novel is defiantly better. I think it's because I watched it before I read the novel, but even so I still like it after reading the novel multiple times. I don't mind the changes because I think if it as alternative universe in some way. (Also the cast is extremely attractive which few exceptions so that helps and I really love XZ).
I'm not a big fan of the donghua though. (I wish the people who did TGCF did MDZS because they followed the novel so well so far.) I know I'm a minority in this which is fine, but the changes they made just annoy me because they changed things that didn't need to be changed and had nothing to do with CCP. My biggest gripe has to be how WWX came back as the YP in the donghua it makes me angry every time. Same with making him come across resentful energy so early on. I love the Wangxian moments and art style, but everything else just gets under my skin. I feel like with CQL I know where I am suppose to be in the novel when watching, but the donghua I just feel so lost especially with season 2 because almost non of that happens in the novel. It tries so hard to follow the novel, but then changes a major scene from the novel that just doesn't work for me.
I think CQL follows certain major scenes from the novel much better than the donghua does and gives us more Wangxian. I only really started feeling Wangxian vibes and LWJ's feel towards the end of season 1 and maybe half-way through season 2. Season 3 finally delivers the full feelings, but CQL I get vibes right from the beginning.
To me cql altered the story to a point where it was hollowed out of many of the things that had made it meaningful in the first place. Not to mention the plot ??? It's not a resentful arm because that was confusing and not... portable?... it's a sword? ....spirit? But it affects people's arms? And also it's a head? and then it's a sword again?
If xz and wy and wang haoxuan weren't sparking joy in my visual cortex would I be emotionally invested in the characters as they're portrayed and presented? I rewatched it a second time all the way through and a lot of the emotional scenes had lost much of their effectiveness because they relied on shallow emotional grabs w swelling music and tears that discarded the compelling depth of the original. I don't hate it but it's hard to appreciate it as an adaptation and their last social media post makes it even harder... The donghua also made changes that didn't make the story stronger and muddled it. I like experiencing certain scenes visually but I think mxtx's writing is so good. It's careful. She doesn't really put in anything that feels superfluous or that makes you feel like necessary information was carelessly omitted. It's hard for me to enjoy new versions when I know I've had something more satisfying already.

I like the donghua because the animation is cool enough for video editors to go ham with their AMVs and I can spend hours just watching the green flames in wwx’s return edited a hundred different ways. it slaps every time ngl
but seriously, the donghua is Not Great in a lot of aspects, but they worked so hard on wwx’s powers! it looks so good and like, properly powerful if that makes sense? cql did their absolute best with a very limited budget, and it looked great, but I felt like we couldn’t really get a grasp on the breadth of the yiling patriarch’s capability in it. the scary vibe felt like it was more the actor than anything else, but that’s just an opinion! pls don’t come for me
the voice is acting for it was great, and some of the scenes do hit pretty hard! also wwx looked big as the yp, I always envisioned og wwx as a broad, kinda beefy sort of dude, so I liked his demonic cultivator design a lot! the only issue is that it feels a little scrubbed clean of character, and the story ends up a little shounen-ish? could just be me though.
at the end of the day, cql is superior in almost every way, but nothing really beats out 2d animation in portraying fantastical fight scenes, so the donghua is a solid second place for me. the original novel will always have my gratitude and appreciation for being the source of all of this in the first place, but cql was what endeared the characters and made them real and relatable to me. every other version than the live action is just sort of like, bonus content? like I don’t really need it, but it’s there and I’ll enjoy it while I prep for yet another cql rewatch
yeah i think most of what's good about the donghua is what cql couldn't achieve, for budget reasons as well as the limitations that live action shows inherently have. so yeah that includes most fight scenes (and i love how the donghua really plays with the more 'magical' part of cultivation, like the glowing seals they draw and stuff), sword surfing (which looks So cool here), and wwx's powers specifically.
about wwx as yllz specifically, i like his design too but most of all i'm like, really into his transformation into the yllz. the switch is a lot more sudden than in cql and even though i definitely prefer the cql version, it's interesting to see how different he is after his burial mounds adventure. and also, the voice actor for wwx has an insane range here, going from the happy and teasing and kinda annoying wwx to the angry, jaded and vengeful yllz
honestly it's gonna be difficult for me to rank the mdzs adaptations? bc for me cql really is the only adaptations that's like. actually worth getting into lmao but for the sake of this conversation i would say cql is def at the top and the novel is at the bottom. and im surprising myself by saying this but i think i prefer the audio drama over the donghua? i've said this many times before but i just think it's such a waste that the audio drama includes almost everything i hate about the novel, because the voice acting and music and editing are all so good and it could have been great if it just didn't have the same awful scenes and characterization from the novel. it's really frustrating. but neither of them hold a candle to cql so it doesn't really matter anyway

so i know you love the outfits of wei wuxian and i dont supposed you'd like to discuss the production choice to put him in purple (a very yunmeng color no?) under robes (closer to his heart asdfghjkl) JUST for the scenes at yiling before jiang cheng gets his golden core "restored"? and i dont know about you but it gives me feelings that it's only then and he never (as far as my second rewatch is confirming) wears purple again.
Excuse me for ever giving the impression that I would be unhappy to discuss wwx's clothing! I love to talk about him and everything connected to his character design!
My gifsets distort the colours a bit but before becoming the Yiling Laozhu he has a bunch of darker shades of blues and purple in his clothing! So you are absolutely right that that is the last time we see him in Yunmeng colours!
Tumblr media
( ↑ wwx in yunmeng colours but more blue-ish and darker than jiang cheng or yanli’s clothes and much less flowy and extravagant. you can sense the water of the lotus ponds in yanli’s and jiang cheng’s clothes and their accessories are more lavish (while still simple) but wei wuxian in his clothing is much more straight-lined. just one look and you know that he is growing up in an affluent and important sect, you can see the yunmeng colours, but still he’s an outsider in style. and we already get his trade-mark red peaking through.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
( ↑ as the tone gets more serious his outer robes get thicker, more armor like and the dark lilacs and blues make way for blacks and greys. but you can still feel the hint of dark blue and the patterns are reminiscent of flowing water - first gif - and muddy waters/lotus ponds)
Tumblr media
The Yunmeng sect has been destryoed by the Wen clan, and even though this is the worst adversity Wei Wuxian has faced so far he hasn’t opted for a darker look or even incorporated more red. Instead he wears the most lilac and purple items we’ve ever seen before. As if he wants to express his belonging to the Yunmeng sect - also: I love Xiao Zhan’s stubble, I was super annoyed that on Burial Mounds he somehow was clean shaven....)
Tumblr media
( ↑ The first time we see him in what I count as his first Yiling Patriarch look. All black, red & visible under robes and patterns that aren’t reminiscent of water but wood & stone and armor.)
Tumblr media
( ↑ The last time we see him reutnr to Yunmeng colours. We are back with dark blues and purples, softer and more elegant fabric and the red & more visible under robes. He is pretty much back to his Yunmeng roots, just more mature.)
Tumblr media
( ↑ After defected and making his way to Burial Mounds we get him very often in  his Yiling Patriarch looks. Much more red and only black to contrast with it.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
( ↑ To variations on the softer Yiling Patriarch. The reds aren’t as aggressive and he incorporates grey outer robes in his looks that almost look dove blue, reminding us of Yunmeng. The black is also much softer and not as stark. This is the final breather we get before the second sunshot campaign. Wei Wuxian’s clothes not only show us the simple and austere live he is living but might trick us into thinking that nothing bad will happen anytime soon.)
Tumblr media
( ↑ The full Yiling Patriarch outfit. Both festive and intimidating. The red is now also prominent in his outer robes and shining bright. The pattern of his second robe reminds me of cold lava and the stone at Burial Mounds, sturdy and unsettling ⇨ very neat, Wen Qing wouldn’t care, but this is a great YP look 10/10)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
( ↑ AND HE’S BACK! No one asked where he found his new robes but they are all black, no red shining through and some fun, flowy fabrics as outer layers, something we haven’t seen him wear before. The clothes wrap protectively around him, his belt is much broader and fastened tighter, but he’s also missing the stiffness of his past garments that were fit for a battlefield ⇨ The sheer outer robes of Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji’s matching white ones give me many ideas for sexy lazying in the Jingshi)
Tumblr media
( ↑ The first time we get Lan colours! He’s obviously wearing Lan Wangji’s undergarments but I like to imagine that after reuniting he incorporates some Lan colours into his outfits ⇨ someone give me Wei Wuxian stealing Lan Wangji’s clothing and wearing it...Wei Wuxian in that sheer white outer robe hmmmm...still not over that one)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
( ↑ We’ve come full circle, this is the adult Wei Wuxian: black robes, red hairband but no red undergarments peaking through. Some things are reminiscent of what he wore during his Yunmeng days and despite some martial elements he looks much more mellow and relaxed)
I think it is pretty obvious that I adore the choices for Wei Wuxian’s costumes while having no understanding of fashion. This is just me overthinking everything and using every excuse I can get to talk about how fabulous these looks and Xiao Zhan are.
I like that they played with colour scheme for the characters while still staying true to the overall costumes set by canon (besides the Wen clan clothing which I am still mad about) and the visual storytelling for Wei Wuxian is just wonderful.
Thank you so much for sending this ask!
