The Appeal of Long YouTube Videos!

As a big fan of long-form edited meme videos on YouTube, commonly referred to as "YouTube Poops," (YTPs) there is something to be said for a development within the community called "YTP Collabs."

These are YouTube Poops where multiple creators collaborate on making a YTP, contributing a short video of multiple edited sequences which are stitched together by the collab host to make one long video. Now the important thing is, there can be many contributors to a collab, depending on how stringent the host is on admitting entries.

This has led to YTP collabs that are well over an hour in length. A notable example is the YTP collab of the famous "Steamed Hams" sequence from The Simpsons, which ballooned a barely three-minute video clip into a parody lasting over an hour and a half.

For reference, the first shot of the Steamed Hams sequence of Chalmers ringing the doorbell takes seven minutes to get through with all of the jokes people made based off of it.

Now, how do these videos stay engaging? It probably depends on the tastes of the viewer. YouTube Poops admittedly aren't for everyone, so the best I can say is how they can stay engaging to me.

By far the draw for these is that a well-edited YTP collab can be minutes to hours of near-constant farcical comedy with one joke after another, becoming almost over-stimulating in how fast the jokes come. The videos keep the audience entertained by simply giving them no downtime when they're not laughing or building up to another punchline. If the editor knows what to include and where to put it, they can make a video as long as a full-length movie which never gets boring.

Rule 5: if the joke involves fan art of the person who made the fan art must be credited.

5a. If the artwork in question is NSFW for a joke, then it is either getting censored or cut on the collab, you can leave it in your own (sentence mixing is fine)

6. You can submit your videos through either Tumblr, YouTube, Discord or Blue Sky

Hey I just released a 28 minute Youtube Poop collab I did with some friends on Archive.org because Youtube blocks it from being seen otherwise. Share it around, we worked on it for months.

It's not actually two hours, I just think it would be funny if someone didn't read the title and downloaded it thinking it was the full movie.

Is there any reason in particular that you don't have a watermark on your ytps, as apposed to other ytp creators?

I think they're tacky. I don't like how they look and the particular way they change the vibe. I don't need a Personal Brand visible at all times. Maybe it's pretentious but I think it cheapens the vision I have for my videos, and I don't feel my stuff being stolen is a pressing enough issue to warrant watermarking. I think it makes sense to have watermarks for big collabs so people know who did what, but I'd also enjoy a big collaborative YTP that's a true group effort where everyone's contributions blend together and aren't so segmented. But that's another topic.

I think if Smiling Critters was a real show, YTPs of it would probably have CatNap turning grey and becoming an axe-crazy sociopath like Green Homer in the Treehouse of Horror YTP collabs.

Sin runs a gaming channel. Collabs with other peoples channels often and hosts them on his channel as events. Has Elphelt on a lot. Does a lot of food tier lists.

Giovanna does vlogs in her car talking about her day and what she has planned next. She talks about her job a lot even though shes not supposed to. Her dog sits in the passenger seat and is the reason most people watch her videos.

Zappa runs a paranormal investigation channel with Randy as his editor. Zappa records academic type clips of him talking in front of a whiteboard along with clips of him in the field experimenting with ghosts. Randy edits them all into being clickbaity viewfarms.

For Anji, one video is a really bad ytp, and another is of him throwing bricks at a cop car

Potemkin has exactly two videos. The first is a fourty minute long tutorial and introduction of how to get into painting. What materials to use, what mindset to get into, hand exercises, how to use references, etc. The second is titled "ARYSYKGLJDKFHZVPUgp i b 🥢zIg9rtc%9_22 [[78" and it is a twelve second video of him petting a cat he found on the street.

Slayer uploads 15 minute Dandyism lessons every week. They usually devolve into him talking about his wife or personal life halfway through. His channel gets privated when one of his episodes is about how to seduce people and it contains a fully uncensored orgy

ABA has videos of varying length of literally anything she happens to find interesting. She basically never speaks and the only thing audible is her heavy breathing from lugging Paracelsus around.

GAH im so happy rn (read more is hiding a wall of rambling)

im pretty sure i finally found a passion i can truly pursue and stuff

i started video editing like, 8 months ago now? i think? the software i've been using is something called openshot, it's simple but i was able to do some pretty neat stuff in it. it took a while for me to learn how to use it and get used to but it was satisfying. i'm really proud of the videos i've made with the software and the smiles they gave to people brings me joy.

and today, i downloaded davinci resolve, and it looks SO different, there's SO much in it but like. i dont feel overwhelmed about it at all. i feel excited actually! i cant wait to learn more about this software and what i can do with it!

ive been struggling alot lately, like, emotionally. feeling scared and worried about the future cuz. it didnt seem like there was much i felt comfortable doing. like, DOING. but i felt something click again. i havent been doing much editing lately cuz ive been busy with college, but its ending very soon.

i remember when i was making timmy dibby monkey hour, i was so hyperfocused on making that thing it was everything to me. it was hard work (it was the first ytp i made after switching to my laptop, and the first one i uploaded on youtube since my super short knew barely anything about editing entry for schaffrillas' super mario sunshine collab) and the result is something im still soso proud of.

idk i just. felt the need to make a post rambling about this. i never talk about my personal life or anything like that, and although this isnt like, super super personal (the emotional struggle mention was brief and vague... im feeling better now! obviously). i just want to celebrate this feeling of being pulled out of despair by this... thing i lovelovelove doing idk

im just looking forward to my future now. i hated college (the one i went to didnt have video editing courses AT ALL which. yeah. mega bummer for me rip) and now that im gonna be out im just. gonna go all in on this as best as i can!!!! idk what im gonna make first but i wanna start a project in davinci resolve and then im gonna make more projects and more projects and uh uh uhm its gonna be cool and epic and im gonna work hard and its gonna be tedious and stressful but im gonna laugh as im editing together a funny bit and im gonna feel accomplished and fulfilled when its all done and im gonna make my friends laugh with my videos and im gonna make strangers laugh when youtube decides to make the stars align for it on their for you pages and and and uh uh uh IDK!!!!!!!!
