YUKIO IN THE BSD ANIME ARTSTYLE!!!

I love him so much <333

Based on a Kenji frame from the early episodes, I learnt a lot about the line techniques and shading style of the anime from this and I'm hoping to keep learning so I can freely draw in it! :D

the amazing @wellnoe and i collaborated on this short xmen fancomic! i wrote the script and brenna did the art & colors & lettering. brenna and i share a love for storm and yukio's relationship so we thought this would be a fun little project 💜 as always, i'm blown away by her artistic talent. we hope you like it!

Yukio and Akutagawa art!! I haven't drawn Yukio for a while, that wasn't attempting to replicate the art style of the games, so this was fun :D

And for once he doesn't look like a nervous wreck ^^

Still learning how I want to draw Akutagawa , I think I'm getting there :)

there’s just something about rin being named after his father and looking like his father, but having all the qualities of his mother. the same can be said about yukio looking just like his mother, being named after her love (his adopted father) but having some qualities of his biological father.

in the wake of the destruction of the Illuminati's airship, they can all sense the tension in the air- the promise that this is not over, by a long shot. but among their friends and the bubble of security they provide, it was easy to not feel it. if he's being perfectly honest, yukio is still reeling from how easily they've accepted him back into the group, like he didn't run off to try and join the Illuminati. it's not quite as baffling as the decision of the three Arc Knights in their company to just ignore his actions and accept him back into the fold- the dreaded son of Satan had turned traitor, after all.

...but he recognizes a second chance, and he intends to take it.

and his intentions had never been to join the Illuminati anyways- he'd gone to them in order to destroy them- to protect rin in the same way he'd protected him for all these years. with Satan parasitizing his left eye, it was only a matter of time before the Illuminati set their sights on him. as soon as rin realized that...

...his fears had been right, in the end.

thank god for satan was perhaps the strangest string of words yukio had ever thought in his life- but if satan hadn't stopped him, rin would have died by his own hand with a smile on his face- all in the service of protecting him. it was yukio's worst fears realized- that his twin had broken himself so badly, discarding all the parts of himself that he deemed unnecessary to his single goal of protecting yukio, that he wouldn't think twice about killing himself to accomplish that.

...but was he any better?

all his life, he'd tried to be perfect. it was better than letting himself be what he was- deeply flawed and twisted up inside, with a dangerous temper and violent impulses that followed it. he'd done his best to squash that part of himself into oblivion, devoting himself to creating the facade of the perfect child- the perfect son, the perfect student- and eventually, the perfect exorcist. he hid himself underneath that, not letting anyone see the ugly mess he was underneath it- to the point where he'd even fooled his own twin.

"...we're both kind of fucked up, huh?"

yukio glanced over at rin and huffed.

"some of us more than others," yukio couldn't help but quip- which earned him a glare from rin, "-at least I recognized my own issues."

"shut up, four eyes," rin grumbled, "-at least I don't wear fake glasses. the hell did you bring a spare pair for? I know you haven't needed them since you drew the sword."

yukio pushed up the bridge of his glasses, "-aesthetic."

rin held his gaze for a long moment- before letting out a burst of laughter. honestly, yukio still had no idea which of his brother's smiles were fake and which were real- and he knew rin probably didn't know the difference either- but the one he wore now seemed real enough.

in the end, they'd both bought into each other's facade.

...maybe now, they'd finally have the chance to actually get to know each other.
