“Muse” est un mot qui me fait rigoler, parce que personne ne sait ce qu’il signifie. C’est l’influence d’une attitude, je suppose, mais le mot est complètement faux, il ne semble pas faire partie de la vie réelle. Alors que, bien au contraire, mon influence sur Yves relève entièrement de la vie réelle, l’amie qui travaille avec lui et qui, de temps en temps, lui dit: “Ne sois pas aussi bête, Yves.”
- LouLou de la Falaise
Loulou de la Falaise was model, designer, and more well known as Yves Saint Laurent’s long-running muse for his fashion designs.
Cecil Beaton famously said she was the only English woman he knew who could be “really chic in really hideous clothes” - de la Falaise was part of high society. But she was also always a hard worker that became a fashion icon. She became the quintessential Rive Gauche haute bohémienne.
Born on 4 May 1948 in England, Louise Vava Lucia Henriette de la Falaise had an Irish mother, Maxime Birley, Elsa Schiaparelli's favourite model, and a French father, Alain de la Falaise. She was the granddaughter of the artist Oswald Birley, official painter to the Royal Court. From the age of 7, Loulou de La Falaise studied at a boarding school in England, then in Switzerland. She spent her teenage years in London, then the capital of pop culture, and then became a fashion editor before following her mother to New York in the 1960s. She then posed for fashion photos and designed prints for Halston. In New York she was firm friends with Andy Warhol and immersed herself in the fashion scene there.
Tumblr media
She didn’t have much luck in relationships. She was first married at 18 years old to an Irish aristocrat, Desmond Fitzgerald, from whom she soon separated. In 1977, Loulou de la Falaise married Thadée Klossowski de Rola, son of the painter Balthus, a marriage organised by Yves Saint Laurent and Pierre Bergé on a small island in the Bois de Boulogne. She has a daughter, Anna, born in 1986, of whom Yves Saint Laurent was godfather.
Yves Saint Laurent once said of his muse, “Loulou de la Falaise's real talent, apart from her undeniable professional qualities, was her charm. She had the strange power of the gift of lightness, mixed with an irreproachable acuity of her look on fashion. Intuitive, innate, unique.” Loulou de la Falaise met him in 1968, at a tea party given by his stylist friend, Fernando Sanchez. She joined Yves Saint Laurent in 1972 at the designer's request and quickly became one of his closest collaborators. Loulou de La Falaise, who had a passion for colour and a gift for eccentricity, remained at his side for 30 years, creating jewellery and hats for the haute couture house.
Tumblr media
While many consider her Yves’s ‘muse’, she was much more than that, and became head designer for accessories. She was literally his taste check, someone he could depend on to brainstorm concepts with, finalise colour  selections. She said once, "Accessories have an important role in our stressful lives. If you go out to dinner and you don't have time to go home and change, you can take off your jacket and put on a piece of jewellery," She loved rare woods and brightly coloured stones, giant enamel flowers and had hearts fashioned from rock crystal, her lucky material. "The important thing is to invent yourself," she used to say.
After Yves Saint Laurent’s death in 2002, Loulou de la Falaise launched her own brand and collaborated with different groups by creating jewellery lines. In 2011, she created a line of jewellery exclusively for the Majorelle garden boutique in Marrakech, the garden that also housed Yves Saint Laurent's ashes. Loulou de la Falaise passed away 2011.

Top 10 African Inspired Fashion Trends – The Afropolitan Effect
Western fashion has often looked to African and African-American culture for inspiration but this time around the world seems to want an official romance with it. Here’s what you should know about when the affair started and how Afropolitans are changing the narrative.
Western designers have been flirting with African symbols, patterns and fibers since as far back as the 1970s when Yves Saint Laurent created a fashion collection that evoked images of an exotic Africa for non-African audiences. These collections were based on what Western designers imagined Africa to be as opposed to what it really was.
As expected, this cultural appropriation, which was not benefitting African designers or textile weavers in any way created an uproar because it was a one-sided affair and was not mutually beneficial. Africa was the glamorous mistress whom Western designers wanted to profit from but not empower. The resistance also came because no one can tell Africans how to be authentically African. Despite the deep cultural similarities, the countries in the continent share different political climates, geographic realities, languages and weather. Meaning that there is no one single narrative of African reality.
These diverse experiences of Africans gave rise to the term Afropolitan. Afropolitans are young Africans with a global outlook, upwardly mobile, culturally savvy, changing the perceptions about Africa through creative expression and redefining what it means to be African in the midst of a multitude of subcultures. To be Afropolitan means we understand that the world is a global village (heck, we are products of that globalization), and that design inspiration can come from anywhere. However, if the fashion world borrows from Africa we ask for recognition, inclusion and empowerment of African designers and retail brands that have worked hard to keep evolving African style, giving it new currency and new associations.
With this understanding, let’s take a look at the top 10 Afro-inspired trends for women that have found their way to the retail fashion streets.
#1 - Matching Couple Outfits
Matching or uniform outfits are the status quo for African couples and family members at special occasions such as weddings and birthdays.  Fabric is bought in bulk and made into different glamorous attires by family and friends for an event, to serve as a form of identification, solidarity and love. The world has taken a leaf from this culture by updating pre-wedding photo shoots from matching T-shirts to full matching outfits for couples. on the other hand in winter outfit like boss jacket is the perfect one with the T-shirt for the couple.
Tumblr media
#2 - Afro-Pop Culture T-Shirts
Just like African-Americans made hip-hop a dress code, the custom T-shirt era has ushered a longing for expression of different African realities especially by urban African youths. Using personal motifs like hair-do, music and food in bold and unusual ways is now the new cool.
Tumblr media
#3 - Boubous & Kaftans
Loose fitting garments worn by African men and women called Boubous or Kaftans have become a wardrobe staple all over the world.
Tumblr media
#4 – Tie & Dye
Cultures across the African continent have various tie and dye techniques and motifs signifying varying ideas. Today, these colorful tie-dye prints are a must-have for women all over the world.
Tumblr media
#5 - Fringe Love
Traditional African fabrics like Kente. Akwete,  Asooke are woven using different types of threads. The ends of the threads are left to hang out as decorative elements at the base and sleeve of garments. The African fringe has a western cousin but the fringe love is universal.
Tumblr media
#6 - Head Wraps
African head wraps are made from local fabric or Ankara prints and tied round the head in an intricate style. The trendy head wraps of today are sewn together as ready-made fashion accessories..
Tumblr media
#7 - Wooden Jewelry
Jewelry made from utilitarian products like wood have their inspiration from African sculpting and carvings.
Tumblr media
#8 - Neck Rings
African neck rings were worn by the South Ndebele of South Africa as part of their traditional dress and as a status symbol for the wearer. Today, statement gold chokers shaped like rings are a hot fashion trend.
Tumblr media
#9 - Ankara Print
Though it is said that these prints were brought to Africa by Dutch textile manufacturers, it is the stylish use of these materials by Africans that popularized the fabric. It was Africans who requested for specific patterns to be printed and it was Africans who helped it evolve and popularized it; we made it ours.
Tumblr media
#10 - Head to Toe Monochrome/Matching Sets
Going head-to-toe in one color or pattern is a fashion trend that has its roots in African fashion. Yards of fabric are given to tailors to make matching tops and bottoms for both men and women as day wear and occasion wear. The world has caught this monochrome bug.
Tumblr media
The rise of the Afropolitan class means that there is a hunger for truly meaningful clothing that helps Africans in Diaspora connect with their roots. How can you play your part? Seek out small independent designers and/or brands and patronize them because by doing this you are strengthening the systems and supporting designers both in Africa and in the Diaspora. Looking for where to shop authentic African designs with global spice? Check out Joe Stylee. Do you know other authentic African brands? Please share in the comments.

♣ + gaya and mikoto!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Ice Princess of Politics and Socialite, Miss Kang Gaya, and the most eligible bachelor of Seoul's Elite, Dr. Jung Mikoto. The It couple everyone has been talking about.
A power couple : cheabols and old money. Be it in business or when it comes to social matters, they have and are everyone desires to have and be. Gaya is known to be cold but now with Mikoto, a different side of her is seen. Perhaps Mikoto is the only one able to bring this more feminine, easy going and joyful self of hers that little were aware existed. People say it's always a pleasure to spend time with the both of them, for a masquerade ball, a gallery opening or an inauguration, it's impossible for them not to shine wherever they go.
       Send me ♣ + a ship and i’ll tell you…
Who is the better dancer?
They both learned how to dance when they were debutants, their waltz is elegant and flawless. When the gathering s less official however, Mikoto has better moves and more ease on the dancefloor, he teaches Gaya how to let go, dance more freely and have fun like nobody is watching when they're dancing together.
Who likes the outdoors more and who likes the indoors more?
Mikoto likes the outdoors more, Gaya enjoys the indoors.
Who’s a cat person and who’s a dog person?
They are both a dog person. Especially big dogs of noble breeds, large dogs who would scare anybody stepping a little too close.
Who’s more social?
They both are social due to their status and obligations. However Mikoto is naturally more at ease, he often joins Gaya's conversations during their social gatherings to make the exchanges more comfortable for her to navigate with his natural charms and sense of humor. "God they were sooo boring. Offing myself from the room sounded better than lasting 5 more minutes in this." Gaya would complain once they're finally alone together. "Trust me I know, that's why I came to the rescue." He would tell her, and she would smile.
Who makes the bed every morning?
None. They have the help and the housekeepers to take care of that kind of things.
Who likes to keep the house cold and who likes to keep the house warm?
None of them is that sensitive to the cold. However when sick, Gaya denies at all cost that she Is sick and keeps on complaining : "Ugh, I'm so cold. Why is this house so damn cold." She woulf say again annd again. "Well that's because you're sick. You're more sensitive to the cold." He says. "Me? Please. I can't get sick, go and ask my doctor." She says. "I'm your doctor. Come on, let's get you warm." He would say.
Who takes longer getting ready?
They get ready together. Gaya's team always insist on assigning her a stylist to help with the choice of her outfits for public appearances : she refuses. However she always asks for Mikoto advice as they're home getting ready, "Which dress do you like on me more? The Yves Saint Laurent or the Valentino?"
Who likes scary movies and who likes funny ones?
Mikoto enjoys the funny movies a little more as they lead to a nice cozy evening - While Gaya likes the scary ones. In fact, the scary ones are hilarious to her, she looks down on the characters being This stupid for dying this fast and comments in detail to Mikoto on how she would have procedeed if she was the killer. Like any sociopath girlfriend would do.
Who screams when they see a bug and who ends up killing it?
None of them scream. Gaya kills her own bugs.
Who is more technology challenged?
None. They are both at ease with technology, they grew up with it and rely on it enough.
Who would be more likely to burn something in the oven?
Gaya is more likely to burn it all down by accident. Mikoto knows how to cook and he cooks pretty well. Gaya likes it a lot when he's cooking, she tries to help but she's a catastrophe in the kitchen. "You know what... just, chop the onions and I will take care of everything else." He tells her.
Who talks in their sleep?
Mikoto talks in his sleep and Gaya listens closely in case he says something she can tease him about but it often is gibberish.
Who leaves the cap off the toothpaste?
None of them. Both are clean and organized.
Who likes getting dressed up more?
Mikoto is dashing, elegant, he likes getting dressed up and put care in his looks and outfits, like any handsome modern man would. Gaya too, but she mostly likes it because they get dressed up together and chat when doing so.
Who’s better at tying ties?
Mikoto knows how to tie his own ties but Gaya insists on doing it for him. Therefore when they are getting ready, he naturally lets her taking care of it.
Who recorded the answering machine message on the house phone?
Gaya took care of it. Mikoto listened to it and it made him laugh on how Cold she sounded so he re-recorded a better version. She's upset when she finds out he did that but he can't stop laughing on how awful hers was. She ends up admitting he's right. "Alright, Fine, I suck at this kind of things... I said fiiiine, stop laughing.. "
Who’s better at planning romantic things?
Mikoto is better at planning romantic things. Gaya is always beyond happy when he does.
Who takes up more space in the closet?
Gaya receives countless of lady suits and dresses from haute couture brands so the closets of her dressing rooms are full. Especially with Yves Saint Laurent that has been officially chosen to dress up the heiress for most of her public appearances.
Who has more of a sweet tooth?
Gaya has a sweet tooth but she tries to control herself and not eat too much of that. She can hardly control herself when they drank a little too much though - she craves cake.
Who drinks more often?
They both drink often as they often celebrate or often have business dinners.
Who is most likely to laugh during a serious situation?
Mikoto is more likely to laugh. Which causes Gaya to laugh as well. They then cannot stop laughing and try to behave themselves as they have a Repuation to Hold, but if one starts laughing again, the other cannot help but to mirror.

some r/v au things kicking around in the brain (or in my art lmao)
V has a new wedding dress made that is heavily inspired by, though not an exact replica of, Josette’s dress, taking a mix of regency style and late 1960s/early 1970's (which are already in partnership in fashion). she borrows Naomi Collins' wedding veil, and Liz gives her a string of pearls that first belonged to Annabella Collins –– a symbol of the Collins prosperity born of the sea.
Wedding flowers: blue delphinium (dignity and grace, youth, new life, remembrance), calla lilies (magnificent beauty, rebirth or resurrection, the goddess Hera), lily of the valley (return to happiness: "The naiad-like lily of the vale. Whom youth makes so fair, and passion so pale" ) and blue jasmine (amiability, loyalty, integrity, trust, "On the blue flower which, Brahmins say. Blooms nowhere but in Paradise.")
" The jasmine, with which the queen of flowers, To charm her god, adorns his favourite bowers Which brides, by the plain hand of neatness drest, – Unenvied rival! – wear upon the breast; Sweet as the incense of the mom, and chaste As the pure zone which circles Dian's waist."
They're married out on the terrace but, predictably, rain interrupts them, and they have to rush inside to the drawing room to finish the ceremony. Roger cheats and carries her over the threshold before they're officially married.
They fly to France for their honeymoon, staying on the beaches of Biarritz in the Hôtel du Palais. They make several excursions to sightsee in the rest of the country, including a few days in Paris to see the Louvre and the Palais Garnier. V returns home with several paintings to add to Collinwood's collection, and Roger with several bottles of wine. Vicki also picks out an André Courrèges for Maggie, an Yves Saint Laurent for Carolyn and a Givenchy for Liz. for David, a lapel pin with a guillotine motif inspired by 1790s designs.
Rog's proposal is very Maxim-esque. It happens outside on the cliffs, not at breakfast itself, but right after. Since David is old enough to go to Real School, he no longer needs a tutor and governess, but Roger assures her she's still needed at Collinwood and she can stay on with him. ("Do you mean you want a secretary or something?" "No, I'm asking you to marry me, you little fool.")
They're generally supported (especially by Julia) when they announce the engagement, and Carolyn is delighted to have her as an official member of the family (though it takes some getting used to thinking of her as an aunt). Liz is highly skeptical and would try to talk Roger into calling it off; Vicki has to work hard to convince her that’s what she wants. the plus side is that he’d never do anything to hurt V because if he did Liz would flay him alive. not one single foot out of line.
Maggie would also be on Liz’s side, certain at first that the power disparity favors Roger and his happiness, but Vicki would eventually bring her around. Maggie, along with Willie and Joe, is probably one of the few who realizes or cares what it means for Vicki socially/economically to rise through the ranks and marry into the Collins money/power. most of them would view it as marrying Roger, but V’s fellow working class characters see it as marrying into the family, and Roger comes second.
The engagement lasts a while for legal reasons, though not for lack of Rog's trying to hurry their lawyers, since neither of their spouses can be served divorce papers (being yoinked back to the eighteenth century or being transformed into a vampire as your alternate identity don't count for much in court). they're able to get annulments on the basis of mental incapacity –– r.e. Rog's mental state when he married Cass, and the speed –– and fraud –– vis a vis Jeff's real identity. it's not pleasant, and involves lots of testifying about adultery in the courtyard, which leads to their first real fight.
Though he buys her a few things in France, his big wedding present is a car of her own to live in the Collins garage: a Triumph TR6 in Royal Blue with tan interior. Carolyn is allowed to drive it; Roger is not.

Hi guys,
Since it is officially summer time here in London I wanted to share with you all some of my favourite lightweight face base products to give you that perfect no makeup, makeup look. It's funny because a few years ago I was so unhappy with my skin I would only wear matte full coverage formulas but now I have taken the time to look after my skin I can enjoy a more natural face base. So that being said let's chat about my recent favourites.
First off we have the RARE BEAUTY Positive Light Tinted Moisturizer Foundation 14W, £29.00. I personally love how lightweight this tinted formula is, I can apply it with a brush or my fingers like a moisturiser leaving me with a lovely natural, radiant finish. Not only does this formula blur and even out your complexion, it also reduces the look of pores and fine lines while also offering SPF 20. As always from Rare Beauty there's a great shade range to find your perfect match. I adore this formula, it wears really well during the day and it doesn't feel like you're wearing anything at all.
Next up we have my even more natural no makeup, makeup option the Yves Saint Laurent Nu Bare Look Skin Tint 02, £28.00. Unlike the other products this formula is a skincare-makeup hybrid so it looks after your skin while you're wearing it! It's 90% skincare base formula infused with plant-based glycerin and hyaluronic acid help with lasting moisturisation and hydration, and Marshmallow which is a key ingredient with a soothing effect. Like the RB formula you can wear this as a tinted moisturiser or as a buildable lightweight foundation. This buildable formula gives you a lovely dewy complexion which can last up to 12 hrs. I tend to use this product when I want to even my complexion and give myself a proper glowy finish. Again it wears really well and looks just like skin so if you like a VERY natural facebase product then this could be your new friend.
Lastly we have Charlotte Tilbury Light Wonder Foundation, Shade 1 £39.00. I have been using this foundation for a long time now and gives me one of my favourite glowy finishes. Unlike the other products this formula is a pure foundation so it can offer you more coverage that the previous options while still giving you a glowy finish. Personally I love how smooth and flawless this foundation leaves my face looking and like I mentioned before the coverage is buildable so you if prefer a lighter base you can sheer out the formula as well as build up.
I love these products and over the years I have really grown to love a more sheer, glowy face base which is such a change up compared to when I first starting wearing makeup. My makeup style has defintely changed over the years and now that I'm more comfortable with my skin my makeup products and coverage have changed a lot. As always all products mentioned in my blog post are linked above!
Lots of love

ok so, i really appreciate the author for:
a) acknowledging some of the ODDER entries pierre wrote in letters to yves (if you know, you know), because there are some i remember reading and just thinking “okay... that’s a weird thing to write...”
b) discussing the reasons for the christies auction (he needed the $$$); a millionaire with the taste of a billionaire
c) actually discussing: madison cox, robert merloz, etc. who are kind of just mentioned in one sentence in the ysl biographies “who?” and onto the next thing d) honestly, i find his involvement in french politics completely boring (precisely because i’m not french, i assume lmao, and some of the peculiarities of french politics are... “interesting”), but the author did a MUCH better job of discussing/critiquing his “side-projects” than the ysl biographies, which somehow make everything sound even MORE boring (lmao and the opera)
e) does a better job of actually discussing yves saint laurent’s final years than *any* ysl biography (ugh don’t GET me started on the weird as fuck book requiem pour yves that his biographer laurence benaim wrote, where she OBVIOUSLY knows about his final years... and uses them to preface a weird rant about fashion (idek, it’s a mess!!!)... instead of actually including any of those details in the re-issued biography in 2018 WHICH ENDS IN 2002. at least she included a playlist.)
f) investigating the truth versus the “official story” of his life, lmao literally practically being like “well, that’s a lie... so according to MY research...”
g) for my own entertainment, the biographer could have really leaned into the fact that he and karl were always trashing each other, forever, with one of karl’s last interviews expressing how HAPPY he was to outlive his enemies like pierre lmaooooo
i’m sure there’s more but, for what it was, it was good
i just... think yves needs a better biographer than stupid laurence benaim, literally WHY reissue a book from 2002 without ANY meaningful updates in 2018? if you missed the prologue in that book, you wouldn’t have even know that he died... ANYWAY ENOUGH
the world to me:

Review/Film; Deneuve As Symbol Of Colonial Epoch
By Vincent Canby Dec. 24, 1992
Catherine Deneuve reigns in "Indochine." That is, she presides over its second-rate fiction with the manner of an empress who knows her powers are constitutionally limited but who continues to take her duties seriously. She can't change the course of the film, but her lofty presence keeps it from flying apart. She plays Eliane who, when first met in 1930, divides her time between a mansion near Saigon and a successful rubber plantation, which she oversees with (sometimes for) her widowed father.
Miss Deneuve has her work cut out for her, since the new French film, made on location at great expense and with attention to historical accuracy, intends to be nothing less than epic. "Indochine" is the story of the last 25 years of French rule in Indochina as reflected by the events in Eliane's life. The subject is potentially rich, but the screenplay, whomped up by three screenwriters in collaboration with Regis Wargnier, the director, has neither the conviction of fact, the sense of revelation found in good fiction, nor the fun of trashy literature.
In 1930 Eliane enjoys all the perks that accrue to the dominant class in a smoothly functioning colonial society. Though French by birth, she has never seen France. She was born and reared in Indochina, which she considers as much her home as it is for the anonymous laborers who work on her plantation. Eliane is not as bigoted as some French. She is bringing up Camille (Linh Dan Pham) as her own daughter. The pretty teen-ager, an Annamese princess, was adopted by Eliane after her parents -- Eliane's best friends -- were killed in an accident.
Since Eliane is France to a large extent, it's not surprising that her life falls apart more or less in concert with French colonial rule, and that her heartbreak and (dare I say?) her hopes parallel those of France itself. She's sorely tried, both as an adoring mother and as the conscience of a great European nation.
Camille has been betrothed since childhood to Tanh (Eric Nguyen), a well-born Vietnamese fellow whom she likes but does not love. She shatters her adoptive mother by falling madly in love with Jean-Baptiste (Vincent Perez), a handsome, mostly uncharacterized French naval officer, who had once been Eliane's lover.
Eliane puts her foot down, but Camille runs off to join Jean-Baptiste at the remote outpost to which Eliane has arranged that he be sent. It's the beginning of the end for both the motherland and Eliane. I'm not giving away one-tenth of what happens in the movie by reporting that the feckless Tanh turns out to be a sort of Vietnamese Scarlet Pimpernel, a dedicated, recklessly brave Vietnamese freedom fighter and Communist.
Camille, too, is politicized, becoming known as "the red princess" for her underground activities. When last heard from in 1954, she's at the table in Geneva, a member of the Indochinese committee negotiating independence from France.
It's not easy for any movie, even one running for 2 hours and 35 minutes, to cover so much time and history and still maintain its coherence as drama. Though Eliane is the film's focal point, she is not Scarlett O'Hara. Eliane has her weaknesses: she falls in love with the wrong man, and she occasionally seeks solace in a pipe of opium. Yet she's not so much a character as a beautiful, somewhat frosty icon, like the statue of Marianne, the official symbol of the French Republic for which Miss Deneuve's likeness was used in 1985.
Without seeming to age a day from 1930 to 1954, Miss Deneuve moves through "Indochine" more as an observer than as a participant. Her Eliane/Marianne is not an embodiment of the ideals of the French Revolution, but a representation of the kind of chic associated with Coco Chanel and Yves Saint Laurent.
She looks ravishing from start to finish. She's supremely unruffled when a man with a nosebleed attempts to make love to her. Not a hair is out of place as she beats a worker for attempting to run away from the plantation. She's not a particular woman but an abstraction as she tells the victim, "Do you think I like beating my children?"
In spite of all that, Miss Deneuve lends the movie a lot of her own instinctive intelligence. Behind the movie-star facade, a real actress is at work. It's not her regal beauty but the force of her personality that carries the viewer through a choppy screenplay not always easy to follow. It may be that the film has been re-edited for its American release, but whatever the reason, characters seem to disappear before their time, or to appear on screen without having been properly introduced. In the etiquette of cinema, this is called rude editing. There also are times when the soundtrack music hails an emotional crescendo that only it recognizes.
Aside from Miss Deneuve's performance, the only one worth noting is that of Jean Yanne, whose acting style has become increasingly self-important and busy since the early 1970's when he appeared in two fine Claude Chabrol films, "This Man Must Die" and "Le Boucher." Here he plays the head of the French security police in Saigon, a jaded functionary who half-heartedly courts Eliane while wearily going about his brutal job.
"Indochine" offers the audience much more history and many more views of the Vietnamese landscape than can be seen in "The Lover," Jean-Jacques Annaud's fine, laconic screen adaptation of the Marguerite Duras novel, also set in Vietnam in the 1930's. Yet "The Lover" evokes subtle truths about colonial relationships that are effectively buried in the epic fanciness of "Indochine."
