It is taking everything Alan has not to snort when, in some of the best comedic timing he's witnessed in a while, Encom's latest OS hits the internet. Right after Mackey - that business brat who took Sam's future and put it behind a paywall - tells him free software died with Flynn.

Sam, 20. Encom Board, 0. Alan updates his mental tally, idly flicking his fingers over his tablet and acquiring a copy before someone tries to take it down.

He has to give it to Dillinger the Younger, the kid's got a good head for customer-facing code. The V12 OS GUI is sleek, user-friendly, all the little niggly things that made navigating V11 a headache smoothed over. The back end, however...

Heh, style over substance is certainly Mackey's MO. Saying all anyone did is put the number on the box up is being generous. Even the core says it's still V6, and that was the last time Alan had a go at it.

Alan may not do pretty, but he sure as hell knows how to code.

A notification buzzes - that'll be Roy. Old ZackAttack, up to his usual tricks, grabbing a copy for himself so anyone in his Flynn Lives movement can get one. Probably also asking Alan if he wants to join the movement again - no, Alan likes not having to worry about corporate espionage charges again please and thank you - and rallying the dwindling hordes.

Alan's sure not going to be telling anyone about Roy's little distribution network though. He can be their silent partner, complicit by knowledge but ignorant by design.

Roy has Jet's help, and Jet's got far bigger freedom of movement that Alan does, anyway.

(He's so damn proud of his sons. Scared for them, of course - Jet and his loose regard for the legal system, Sam and his recklessness - but so, so proud too.)

Sirens sound - Sam, probably caught again. Alan's going to need to pay bail... again. The things he does for his kid.

Getting out of the disastrous prospective-investment meeting is easy when Alan cites patching security - it's not like it's going to be hard to misidentify the flaw as something Mackey's done, no common sense that one and Alan can probably find another three to four holes he's punched through the firewall to draw attention away from Sam's messing around in the server room.

Another year, another chance to tweak Mackey's nose.

Here's to you, Flynn, you crazy brilliant bastard.

We never gave up hope when all others did...

We never gave up hope.

We kept searching.

We keep searching.

When ZackAttack made the announcement in late 2010 that our movement had come to an end, I didn’t know what to think. For so long, so much was given, so much sacrificed to prove to the world that Kevin Flynn was still alive. That Flynn still lived.

We here in Dayton, Ohio, where the first physical foundations of Flynn Lives were cemented, felt that with Sam Flynn now in charge of Encom, we would finally get some answers. The circumstances surrounding Kevin’s disappearance was too suspect to be anything short of an Encom internal cover-up, and we FINALLY had a big name on the inside! Encom finally had nowhere to hide.

And then, just like that, Flynn Lives was gone.

I know there are still those of us who still believe. ZackAttack said in his final message to us, “Today, Sam Flynn has brought us a little closer to his father by reclaiming Encom. But these are confusing times. We may have not found Kevin Flynn, but Flynn lives in all of us who want to believe in him.”

Movements are an organic thing. Give it energy and it will thrive and grow and evolve. Take away the energy, and it will fade away. We choose to believe that Flynn is still out there. We keep his memory alive by continuing the search. Our numbers may be few, but our passion burns as bright as a thousand suns

We will keep searching, because we believe that Flynn still lives.
