Fun fact on unknown the japonese name is Ra Ro as a convination of Rathalos/Rioreos and Rathian/Rioreia wich makes sence since it looks like a mix of both is also the counterpart of zerureusu and raro is the spanish word for strange and also the spanish for rare

As a non-Japanese Monster Hunter fan, my understanding of Monster Hunter Explore pretty much only extended as far as weird subspecies like "Christmas Volvidon" and "Sweet Tooth Tigrex". But I've just discovered it's flagship monster is this??

It's an Elder Dragon called Nef-Garmat. I know nothing about them but I love them already

in terms of most commonly returning but not a flagship, yian kut ku! i think the birds get a really bad rep which is a shame. no they’re not the strongest and the drome spam isn’t great but some are genuinely great, unique fights! yian imo is most deserving reoccurring mon because it’s not only a wall to a degree and has some of the most fleshed out monster personality, but it’s downright iconic. the first true fight in the first game. also funny chicken.

on a flagship level, would love lesser utilized but not story dependent flagships to return aka lagiacrus and espinas. the former does have a role in tri/3u, but unlike the magalas, nergie, mal, and arkveld, it’s flexible, meaning the lack of a major story presence/specific handling wouldn’t spoil the vibe.

in terms of most returning flagships, zinogre…..’s subspecies, stygian. used to love normal zin but after returning to world? really made me gain a greater appreciation for stygian. yeah he wasn’t done great in iceborne, and in rise, while fun, got insanely annoying. stygian’s the only consistently good one and absolutely blew ib zin out of the water

in terms of one that hasn’t gotten many appearances, qurupeco! has by far one of the greatest fights at least early game and is a good way to introduce invaders. seriously this guy is criminally underutilized despite being goated.

and though fairly unrelated since of course rathalos will never die, zerureusu please come back whenever los does. literally the only enjoyable rathalos fight and it was in a spin off while being a total overhaul. funny how to make it fun it had to be entirely different.
