Zayn hated the water. He had hated it since he was young, so he never bothered to learn how to swim. Although now he was regretting it.

The boys all wanted to have a pool day. All of them except for Zayn, that is. He hadn't told the others about his dislike of water yet, and he hadn't planned to. He didn't need their judgment.

Zayn shucked off his boxers, quickly pulling on his swim trunks before anyone could walk in. He didn't bother locking the door - he didn't see the point if it would be that quick.

He grabbed his towel and sunglasses, quickly spraying on some sunscreen before joining the others downstairs.

And then Zayn realized something.

He had never seen Liam shirtless before now.

If he had thought Liam was good-looking before, those feelings were only more apparent now. Liam looked almost like a Greek god with his slight tan showing off toned muscles. But Zayn had to take his stare off of Liam before his little crush became too obvious.

Louis sent him a knowing smirk, not making it obvious to the others. Louis was the only one Zayn had told about his crush, and he planned to keep it that way.

"So, lads, are we ready?"

Zayn sat in one of the lounge chairs, hissing quietly in pain once the hot plastic came in contact with his skin. As much as he hated just letting his bandmate have all the fun, he would rather have this than fess up to his lack of an ability to swim.

Although his thoughts may have been cut short when Liam came over.

"Hi Zayn," Liam greeted, voice fairly quiet. Liam hadn't opened up to any of them yet - aside from Niall - so just Liam talking to him first was a step in the right direction.

"Hey, Liam. What's up?" Zayn glanced up at the boy, almost struggling to keep his eyes on his face.

"You just seemed kind of lonely over here. Wanted to check in on you," Liam confessed, tone soft. "If you want to join us, you can."

"I know, Li. Thanks for the offer, but I think I'm good here. Don't really enjoy the water much."

"Oh, okay." Liam looked a bit dejected, and it made Zayn feel guilty about the situation.

"It's not that I don't want to hang out with you guys. I'd love to, actually. It's just," Zayn sighed. "I haven't learned how to swim yet."

"Oh," Liam looked a bit surprised. "That's perfectly fine, Zayn. There's some pool floats if you just want to hang out in the shallow end there."

Zayn was surprised by how much Liam was actually talking to him. Just a month ago, Liam wouldn't have said anything to him. It was a nice surprise for today.

"You sure the others won't mind?"

"Why would they?" Liam tilted his head, just like a confused puppy would. The best thing about it was that Liam didn't even seem to realize.

Zayn shrugged, standing up from the chair. "So where are those pool floats?"

"I can go get one. I'll be right back."

Liam came back with a particularly large float, big enough for what seemed like three people. Zayn couldn't help but chuckle at it.

"What?" Liam seemed concerned. "Did I do something wrong?"

"No, no, not at all, Liam. That's just a really big float."

"Oh," Liam let out a small sigh of relief. "I just wanted to make sure you'd be comfortable. I can go get a different one if you'd like me to."

"It's alright, Liam," Zayn shook his head, a fond smile coming across his face. "You can join me on the float if you'd like. We could keep talking for a bit."

Liam looked a bit unsure for a moment. "Sure?" His answer came out more like a question. "I mean, if you really don't mind-"

"I don't mind, Li. I'm the one who offered, yeah? I won't get mad at you for accepting an offer I gave you."

Liam nodded, going to take the pool float to the water. He stepped in the water, then moved the float closer to the stairs leading into the shallow end.

Zayn took that as an opportunity to get onto it, a bit shaky. Liam followed suit soon after, getting positioned on the large float.

Louis looked over to see the two, and Zayn knew what was coming next. At least Louis had enough sense to whisper it.

"Love birds."

My heart just hurts because people don’t care about mental health or addiction. They just want to tear Liam down - but it’s not even coming from a moral place because they’ve been jumping down his throat for every little thing since forever! I’m so tired of the double standards when it comes to Liam. Another member talks about 1D days it’s nostalgic. He tries to promote his own career and is asked about 1D and gets ripped to shreds by people online saying he has no career so he has to talk about the band.

Now the moment has finally come for antis to go after him once and for all. A lot of these people don’t care about Zayn. They don’t care about his teenager pr stunt ex-fiancé. They just care about ridiculing him. I’m so worried about his mental health. His team has never shown him any kind of respect and even if he left them it would just look like they dropped him. I literally feel like there’s no where for him to go. Not everything he said was bad but none of this should’ve been said/happened bc everything related to the Paul Brothers is bad. People attacked him even when he was so positive about the band so of course this went so wrong. Idk.. this is years in the making. I’m tired. I can’t even imagine how he feels. Anyways Ziam is still real.

Literally!! The worst part is even people who watch the interview don’t care about taking everything he said out of context, they just want reasons to hate on him. I felt so awful when I saw his tweet this morning, I really hope he hasn’t seen a majority of the hate. I know he has at least his family and zayn by his side

Reccer says: I think everyone knows this fic, NASA au, but how can we not recommend it? The plot is great, it's emotional, it's really good. Sp, so beatuiful, so immersive, the characters are written perfectly and it absolutely made me cry.

Or: the Middle Ages AU where Harry is a philosopher, whose thoughts happen five centuries too soon and Louis is a painter, whose art happens five centuries too late. Or: the Time Travel AU where alternate versions of themselves live simultaneously in different realities and their paths collide every time, until somehow, they converge into one.

Reccer says: Much of the story takes place during the Florentine Renaissance, at the end of the Middle Ages, and it's beautiful and well-written. I was at the Louvre a while back and while looking at the Caravaggio and Trevento paintings, images of De Amore Ex Tempore came to mind. Beyond that, I also really liked the story, the meeting of this Louis from the future with a Harry from the Middle Ages. It just goes to show that, whatever the era, they're bound to find each other!

Unfortunately, Louis’ plan doesn’t take into account the fact that instead of writing murder mysteries, he will find himself in one.

I live for a well-executed enemies to lovers arc, and this is it. Believable, sweet, funny, angsty, and oh so satisfying to read. Alpha Harry doesn’t fit his gender’s stereotypes, especially in private. His arch-nemesis Louis knocks on his dorm-room door in the middle of a pampering self-care night and sees the side of Harry that he keeps hidden. What follows is a fantastic gAyBO story about repressing, exploring, and accepting your true self. There is a strong cast of OT5 and related people that keep you laughing and believing. Honestly, I need to re-read this right now.

Men of Steel, Men of Power by Stria (Asia117) @nooradeservedbetter Explicit | 58k | Political Revolution / ABO

Get ready to be absolutely consumed by this parallel universe and the angst-ridden reality of Louis, pretend alpha and head of security, and Harry, feminine alpha and new-hire. There is enjoyable intrigue, mystery, crying, sex, political philosophizing, and some spy movie shit as Louis attempts to right wrongs and push back against those in power. OT5 pop up in surprising and satisfying ways. However, perhaps most notable to me was the attention to detail in how Louis deals with pretending to be a gender he is not. (Perhaps don’t read while in your gender dysphoria feels but do read to feel seen.)

If you love pain, this fic is for you. It turns out this doesn’t actually solve his problems, though, and new issues emerge from what was supposed to be a simple friends-with-benefits arrangement.

Hollywood actor Harry Styles is gutted when the man he can’t stand gets the Scorsese role he wanted. It gets worse when their teams conspire to set them up in a fake relationship to promote the film. I read this fic in the first days of 2023, so the details are a bit blurry in my memory. I know I loved the enemies to lovers arc, the strong Ziam subplot, and Harry obsessing over his unavailable crush (which isn’t Louis). In my comment, I wrote, “My heart absolutely ached with the pining and angst, and the sexual tension was so palpable.”

Gonna Dream of How You ... by therogueskimo Explicit | 4k | PWP / Canon-compliant

This canon-based fic was so steamy and tender. Photos of Louis performing in a tanktop get Harry going. What follows is some long-distance edging and fun. It features soft Dom Louis and desperate Harry and just really hits all the right notes in my opinion.

Almost Misheard by tommokat @tommokat Teen and Up | 4k | Friends to Lovers / ABO

This is a comfort fic. It’s got hilarious fluff about best friends who realize what their inner alpha and omega knew all along. (The rest of the gang might be in on the secret too.) I’m almost amazed by fics that manage to pull me in with believable characters and storylines without any angst, and this one delivers on every front. You’ll be grinning the whole time.

Coax the Cold by MediaWhore @mediawhorefics Mature | 86k | Mermaid / Historical AU

Professor Tomlinson is fascinated by the occult. When a circus advertises a unique sea creature, he decides to go undercover as a janitor to get close. He plans to write the paper that will finally prove he was right about the existence of fantastical creatures. This author expertly builds the world of this fic – 1800s Britain, academia, and freak shows. I loved the believable cast of characters (OT5 and more!) and the stakes that are set, including the horrid antagonists.

Harry and Louis childhood best friends who grew up and discovered love together in a quiet village. Harry manages asthma and chronic illness that often leaves him homebound with his books, but Louis always keeps him company. Their simple life is turned upside down when Louis is drafted in WWI and does not return home. Then, when Harry finally finds him, Louis doesn’t remember anything. This story was a tearjerker but so beautifully written. I adored that portions of the story were told in letters and that Harry often referred to literary works. Bonus: This fic has amazing visuals by whenthebodiesspeak.

Harry wants to play, but Louis is busy watching football, so he asks Harry to wait. I haven’t stopped thinking about this domestic and sexy little slice of life since I read it in January of 2023. My comment said “simple and perfect,” and I still agree.

Someone wrote the Music for a Sushi Restaurant fic of my dreams. Half-man, half-squid, with the voice of an angel, Harry is quite the catch. Louis, an exhausted and lonely restaurant employee, is tasked with keeping an eye on the special find. This story was so entertaining and sweet. It filled me up with good vibes and left me happier than I started.

Israel has reportedly killed Ahmed Ziam, a Hamas commander who was holding 1,000 Palestinians as hostages in the Rantisi hospital in Gaza, stopping them from evacuating to the south, so they can be used as human shields.

According to the Wall Street Journal, security sources have said that Hamas uses hospitals for military purposes, and that Israel will have a difficult time fighting in the area of the Shifa hospital, since there are likely hostages being held in the Hamas terror tunnel built underneath it. Today, Israel said that while battles are being conducted next to the hospital, civilians can evacuate from the eastern side.

Columbia university has suspended two anti-Israel student group through the end of the fall semester, for repeatedly violating university policies, including holding an unauthorized rally in which threatening rhetoric was used. This means for the time being, these groups will not be able to hold rallies on campus, or get funding.

In response to the Iranian attack drone striking an Israeli school from Syria, Israel has struck there last night. The strikes against Hezbollah have also intensified, as more rockets and drones from Lebanon attack Israel's north.

The Oct 7 massacre caused such environmental damage to the communities attacked, that experts are now warning against re-settling people there, without dealing with the toxic materials and waste left by the attacks.

He's a 24 years old Israeli Bedouin (Muslim Arab). He was about to get married this summer. His dad Fuad started building Samer and his bride a house in the vicinity of his own. Samer was kidnapped and is held hostage in Gaza. Fuad says he can't go on building. Every day he goes to the construction site, to sit there and cry. "I can hear him calling to me, asking where I am, why am I not helping him..."
