Y'all have gotta get more insane about platonic relationships like you are about romantic relationships. We need to get more annoying about them NOW. I need to see more meta and losing our minds over them. Get more annoying NOW. More than that. More than that also.

i find it really funny how a large (enough) majority of zuko stans seem to hate/be anti aang as if zuko HIMSELF doesn’t become the no.1 aang fan at some point

At least once a month I remember that Ozai ruled for ~3 years. That's shorter than one presidential term. That's nothing. In comparison Zuko - who suffered so much cruelty and was made to feel worthless under Ozai - ruled for ALMOST 70 YEARS. That's more than 22 times the length of Ozai's rule - and he will go down in history as one of the most influential and well loved Fire Lords of all time

Think we should actually talk more about Zuko and Aang being old men together. Like Aang is 112 and probably has like really old fashioned out of date things he’s really into and Zuko was literally surrounded on a boat by his uncle, the old dudes that worked for him and his uncles weird Pai Sho friends he’s raised to be a old man by like 20. I need the clearly teenage political leaders getting really defensive of an old person snack, have at least one piece of clothing they really like that’s like 100 years outta season and say phrases like “whipper snapper” unironically.

Imo, atla has a bittersweet ending
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Aang is sitting alone and wearing the air nomads clothes, his culture clothes, a necklace similar to GYATSO's necklace. I can't even imagine the emptiness and sadness he was feeling here
There are no airbenders in the crowd
Tumblr media
All nation gathered..... except the air nomads.
No one else in the crowd wearing orange or yellow.
Aang won the war, but his people are still gone.
Yes, he has the Gaang, he has Katara, he has Momo and Appa. But he's still the last airbender.
This is so heartbreaking.

I have a soft spot for headcanons/fics where Zuko acts like an older brother to Toph and/or Aang.

Thinking about how Aang saved Zuko multiple times and like, everyone recognizes that, but the fact that Zuko is Aang's unintentional hero throughout the whole series just gets missed which is a damn crime.
Like, the Blue Spirit is obvious. Aang faces an impossible situation. He can do nothing to save himself, and his friends are incapacitated. Then Zuko comes in to reacue him which, you know, beautiful, 10/10, but this isn't the only time.
When Aang faced Azula, worn out, having not slept in days, clearly not thinking straight, and Azula asks "Do you really want to fight me?" (No, of course not) Zuko comes and literally places himself between the two of them. He strikes at Azula, because in a twisted way, keeping Aang safe is more important to him than Aang being captured. It's important because Zuko needs to capture him, but when given a choice between putting his energy into trying to incapacitate Aang himself, and putting his energy into trying to keep Aang from being incapacitated by someone else, he chooses to fight in defense of Aang.
There's also him freeing Appa which, again, I think is criminally overlooked. Aang faces an impossible situation, Appa has been captured and he can't find him, and Zuko swoops in to save Appa. Obviously, a core piece of this decision is his self-journey. We see him struggle with what Iroh says to him, "is it your destiny, or is it a destiny someone else has chosen for you" (not an exact quote, not looking it up rn). "Who are you, and what do you want?"
Zuko here, has two choices. Choose to continue to pursue the avatar and his honor and take Appa for himself, or choose to let go of that mission and leave Appa.
Because guess what? He had no reason to free Appa. He could have left him there, it would have been easiest and safest to leave him there. The Avatar lacking his bison means only good things for Zuko, even if he's not chasing the Avatar himself. The Avatar is still the firenation's enemy. So why, when presented with the question "what do you want?" does he choose to go through the effort of freeing Appa?
Why is it, that every time he encounters the choice between helping Aang, or leaving Aang to suffer, does he choose to help, even when it gets him nothing?
And then, of course, there's his final rescue. Aang faces yet another impossible situation. The 12th hour is here and he has no firebending skill and no firebending teacher and Zuko, once again, shows up out of fucking nowhere to solve the problem.
Somehow, despite being enemies, Zuko and Aang are some of eachother's greatest defenders. I forever love Aang's direct selfless acts of compassion. The fact that he continues to see someone who has hunted him down as someone worth saving, even as it comes at his own detriment.
But I think there's also something to be said for the fact that Zuko, despite his number one goal in the series being Aang's downfall, still finds himself helping Aang again and again. Almost as if that mission and destiny was a forced shell and Zuko at his core, the person he is that peeks through that shell despite Zuko's best efforts to shove it down, is someone who believes his destiny is by the Avatar's side. :)

Just things they can connect about… Zuko you should bring up the fact that you burned down Suki’s village again, I’m sure she’d appreciate it.

underrated zukaang moment i caught in Southern Raiders episode. Everyone is cheering for Zuko and Aang nudges him and then Toph does too.
i actually just realized a detail that maybe Aang does as a kind of an unspoken "I told you that everyone would come to like you," considering he was the one who wanted to be Zuko's friend first and was the one most likely to advocate for him out of pathos.
