Zuko’s Arranged Marriage (prompt request)
this idea was partially inspired by a mpreg zuko fic on fanfiction.net you should read it, it is really great
omega zuko
long haired zuko
never banished zuko
zuko without his scar(or not, your choice)
great relationship with azula
eventual or implied future mpreg
earth king/zuko
hakoda/zuko
maybe eventual sokka/zuko
zuko was raised in the fire nation capital. things changed for him when he became an omega after his heat came early from his mom leaving. the fire nation sees omegas as beautiful sweet beings that need to be protected, but at the same time they are strong when it comes to their family. Ozai doesn't see it like that. He sees zuko as weak and feeble for being an omega. Ozai feels shamed knowing that zuko is an omega and punishes him secretly leaving marks on his skin that are faint and not in visible places. because visible marks would diminish the price of selling zuko of in the future. zukos personality is much like that of a caged bird but he still has some of his inner fire hidden within him. after presenting zuko and azulas relationship gets better. knowing that they are no longer fighting each other for the throne they finally grow close. azula is protective of zuko and tries to make sure he dosnt get married to some jerky alpha or old solder. when Azula finally leaves to chase down the avatar Ozai decides to finally marry zuko off. he fears marring zuko to a fire nation noble since they might feel like challenging the throne or something so he chooses from the other nations.
for earth kingdom: zuko is shipped off to ba sing se to be married of to king Kui. he is reserved because he knows that if he screws this up and the marriage dosent happen then he will be taken back to a very unhappy Ozai. after meeting Kui he feels like he might be able to make this work but he still see's his mother in an unhappy marriage and fears becoming just like her. he is now learning earth kingdom culture and etiquette before the wedding happens. and because he is marring the king he is supposed to give up his fire nation culture. but he is allowed to keep wearing his crown as a sign of the earth/fire alliance(witch is probable fake or something) zuko is also all alone in the palace. no one from the fire nation is with him and no one from there is coming to his wedding.
i imagine at some point the gaang will show up and some stuff from cannon will happen. and they will interrogate zuko about his intentions and schemes (that he doesn't have). and zuko leaving the earth king to fight with the avatar. but zuko and Kui still end up being good friends. and maybe Azula joins them because she hate what Ozai has done to zuko
for water tribe: Ozai thinks that by giving the water tribe zuko after the failed north invasion he can make them stay out of the war. but everyone in the north is either way to old or not noble enough to marry zuko. so zuko is sent to Hakoda
bonus points for zuko's turtleduck army leaving their pond to join him

Hallmarks of the Season: Part 4
The next morning, Katara was up early again, to her chagrin. Fortunately it wasn't a school day, so she was the only one awake in her family of early risers. She checked her phone for any missed messages, then she decided to work off some of her excess energy with a morning run.
Katara headed for the downtown area, intending to reward herself at the end of her run with a cup of coffee and a pastry. The two miles between her family's home and the middle of town was sparsely populated this early in the morning, and a light snow was beginning to fall, muting even the sound of her feet on the pavement. It was like running in a dream. The coffee shop had just opened, and Katara had her pick of fresh baked goods. She chose a crispy guo kui for herself, and some fruit tarts for the rest of her family, and a tall cup of spiced dark tea to sip on her leisurely walk home. Once her breakfast was done, she pulled out her phone to check for messages. There was one from Sokka informing her that Sesi had a dentist appointment that day, and another from her father asking if she felt like going out to dinner that night. Katara sighed, and put her phone away.
She spotted Aang first, this time. He was wrestling with the key to one of the shop fronts, and he nearly dropped the ring when he heard Katara call his name.
"Hey, Katara!" he greeted her brightly. "Wow, I'm amazed! You're never up this early."
"Jetlag," Katara shrugged and rolled her eyes. "By the time I'm over it, it'll be time to go home."
"It's so weird hearing you call someplace home and not mean here," Aang chuckled and shook his head. Finally, he was able to get the key to turn and he held the door open for Katara to come in.
"So this is the shop?" Katara looked around and tried not to react. The shop was dingy, even before Aang turned on the lights. The slight odor of wet animal permeated the air, and it was smaller than Katara would have guessed.
"Pretty great, isn't it?" Aang held his arms out and grinned. "It needs a new coat of paint, but this is just where I start. Once it takes off, I'll be able to get a bigger place, too. Eventually, I want to take over the old Highwater barn. To give the animals space to run and stuff. Maybe even turn it into short term pet boarding." Katara cast a look around the shop again, and this time her smile wasn't forced.
"I'm really happy for you," she told him. "It sounds like a wonderful plan." Aang's cheeks flushed slightly and preened.
"You don't think I'm a failure for not making it through vet school?" he asked. "I'll probably never get rich off of this."
"You probably wouldn't have gotten rich off being a vet," Katara joked. "But that doesn't matter. You've found something that makes you happy, and I think that's worth all the wealth in the world."
"Really?" Aang's smile widened. "That's not what I was expecting to hear from you."
"Oh?" Katara's face turned inward in confusion. "Why not?"
"Well..." It seemed like Aang was trying to find a delicate way to say what was on his mind. He rocked on his feet nervously and gestured at Katara. "You know...I've...we've all kept up with you, you know. The small town girl who made good in the big city. You're marrying some rich guy-"
"None of that means I'd put money ahead of my happiness," Katara was unaccountably annoyed. "And how do you know how much money Zuko has?"
"I don't mean to be rude," Aang waved his hands, backpedaling quickly. "I was curious when I found out you were engaged. I didn't get a chance to ask you about it yesterday, so I peeked at your social media. Zuko Kaji is...well...I don't think his wealth is any secret." Katara rolled her eyes.
"Yes, fine, he does have money," she admitted. "But that's not why I love him."
"I didn't mean to imply that," Aang swore. "I just...when I saw you at the store yesterday...It's just, you seem so different now. I haven't seen you in almost ten years, and now it's like you're a completely different person." Katara tapped her finger against her cup thoughtfully.
"I am a different person," she said. "Aang, you can't base what you know about me on who I was when I was in high school. I'm not that person anymore. None of us is exactly who we were ten years ago. That's what happens. I'm living a different life than I saw for myself back then, but it's a good life, and I'm happy."
"Good!" Aang turned and started fiddling with the cash register. "I'm glad to hear it. It's nice to know that fabulous wealth doesn't hinder happiness." Katara eyed him for a moment, but then laughed weakly.
"It's not as bad as the movies make it look," she said. She glanced at her screen for any text notifications.
"Hey, Katara?" Aang cleared his throat nervously.
"Yeah?" she looked up expectantly.
"You're in marketing, right?"
"I am," Katara answered slowly. Aang lifted his arms and gestured around the shop.
"Obviously, I'm going to need some more customers if I'm ever going to make it to the Highwater barn, but I'm kind of lost on the whole marketing thing. Do you think I could pick your brain? I mean if you have time."
"Sure, Aang. I actually have some time today. I can swing back around this afternoon and we can talk strategy. Yeah?"
"That'd be awesome!"
Katara gathered her bag of treats and her now ice cold tea and headed for home. Hakoda was on his way out to work, but he gratefully accepted a custard tart on his way out the door. Sesi couldn't have any sweets before her appointment, and Sokka refrained out of solidarity, but he made Katara promise not to eat his while he was gone.
"As if I was the one with that problem," Katara scoffed. "Bottomless pit." Kanna was visiting a sick friend, so that left Katara on her own for the better part of the day. After she showered, changed and checked her messages, Katara headed back out for Aang's shop.
It was busier than it had been that morning, but only just. Aang was at the large tub sink rigorously scrubbing down something large, fluffy and white with a towel. He glanced over his shoulder to see who'd come in, and his face lit up when he saw her. Katara felt heat rise to her cheeks unexpectedly.
"Who is that?" she asked, motioning towards Aang's client.
"Indrani," he told her. "This is Mr. Saki's best friend. Or so he says. She's a friendly ol' furball." Indrani turned and licked Aang's cheek.
"She certainly likes you," Katara giggled. "She's pretty. Even without her blowout."
"Second prettiest she in the place," Aang shot Katara rakish grin, and there was another rush of heat to her cheeks. She cleared her throat and took a seat in the waiting area.
"I'll be over here when you're ready." Aang and Indrani moved over to the drying station, and the sound of the pet dryer made conversation impossible, so Katara took her phone out to occupy herself. She'd muted her work emails, and now had to resist the urge to open them to see how things were going at the company. There was nothing she could do to make the money from the investors clear faster, anyway. She opened her personal email instead. There was nothing in her inbox but some coupons for the makeup brand she wore and an announcement for a sale at a store she hadn't shopped at in years. She navigated back to the home screen and hovered over the text message icon for a moment before opening her video app and putting in her earbuds.
She was halfway through an hourlong video on the history of Ba Sing Se's surprisingly shady cabbage trade when she was brought back to the present by a tap on her shoulder. Aang stood over her, waving and grinning as if he'd been calling her for a while. Katara glanced around and realized that Indrani was no longer there. She had been taken to a kennel in the back of the shop, Katara would learn later.
"I didn't realize I had it up so high," Katara said as she put away her headphones and phone.
"No worries." Aang switched the sign on the door to closed and motioned for Katara to follow him. "Step into my office."
Aang's office was a supply closet with a desk. there was no window and it was cramped, but Katara was impressed that the shop had anything resembling office space at all. There was a pile of boxes in front of the desk, so both chairs had to be put on the same side of the desk. Aang let Katara take her seat first and settled in beside her.
"So..." Katara took a notepad and pen from her purse, and leaned against the wall behind her. "Why don't we start with the basics? How often are you posting on social media?"
"Um..." Aang blinked in surprise. "Social media? I haven't really been on any of my accounts in a while."
"Okay, and what about you socials for the shop?" Katara pressed.
"I...don't have any?" Aang replied sheepishly. Katara wrote that down on her notepad.
"Social media presence is really important," she explained. "Especially with a business like yours. It's a really effective way to keep in touch with existing customers and connect with new ones. And you have an immediate hook. Everyone loves pictures of cute pets."
"That's so much work, though!" Aang complained. "The whole reason I stopped using social media was because of all the time it took up."
"You don't have to spend a ton of time," Katara told him. "Most sites will let you preschedule your post. I'd recommend setting them up a week in advance. It shouldn't take you more than a couple of hours a week. It's also a really good way to announce sales and specials and stuff like that."
"If you think it'll work..." Aang seemed uncertain.
"Trust me!" Katara said. "You'll want to ask all your customers to like and follow the page. And every so often- like say, once a month to start- you'll want to announce a special. Just to keep them engaged." At the word engaged, Aang's eyes drifted to the ring on Katara's finger. It glittered beautifully, even in the florescent light of the office. Katara was too busy scribbling down monthly special ideas to notice Aang's scrutiny.
"Are you running any holiday specials?" Katara asked, startling Aang from his thoughts.
"Er...no," he said. Katara's lips drew down in a quick frown.
"Tell you what," she said. "I'm going to work on a few things for you. A couple of flyers, a loyalty card, and a couple of post for your social media. And I'll make a plan for your next quarter. What do you think?" Aang scrambled for a response.
"Wow, that sounds like so much," he said. "Do you think you'll be able to do that all before you go?"
"It won't take me more than a few hours," Katara said. "Small business campaigns are really easy, but if you stick with the plan, it's going to bring in so much business you'll have to move to the barn!"
"That would be amazing, Katara! I don't know what I'd do without you. I've been open for three months and I still only have three regular clients. It's been...scary."
"The first year of business is always the scariest," Katara reached out and squeezed Aang's hand. "You're going to be fine." Aang looked at her hand on his. The ring, with it's giant stone glittered and twinkled at him. He placed his other hand on top of Katara's and squeezed it.
"How did you get so good at this?" he asked.
"It's what I do," Katara said. "I'm the head of the marketing team at Zuko's company." That caught Aang's attention.
"You're marrying your boss?" He made a poorly concealed face at that. Katara's cheeks went pink and she shrugged.
"He's not actually my boss," she said. "I mean, I don't answer to him directly. We didn't even realize we work at the same place until our second date." Katara chuckled at the memory.
"How did that happen?" Aang asked. "You didn't know the CEO of your company? Isn't it like...number one on the list of interview advice to look up the CEO of the company?"
"Nah," Katara shrugged. "You want to know enough about the company to be able to talk about why you want to work there, but no one actually cares if you know who works in the C-Suite. I met Zuko at a coffee shop about month into working at the company, and he asked me out. We promised not to talk about work on our first date, and we weren't supposed to talk about it on our second date either, but then we both got an alert from work about an ad campaign falling through because the company we were partnering with didn't like the layout. We ended up both having to go in at the same time. It was like finding out each other's alter-egos.
Katara laughed as she recounted the look of shock on Zuko's face. He was worried that HR would have a problem with them dating, but since Katara was both high enough in the company and far enough removed, it hadn't been an issue, though they still kept it secret for another year.
"You really like him, huh?" Aang asked.
"Very much," Katara sighed. She idly flipped her phone over and checked for notifications.
"Are you expecting a call or something?" Aang asked.
"Sort of," Katara turned her phone back over and pushed it slightly away. "I sent Zuko a message yesterday, and I haven't heard back."
"Oh?" Aang leaned forward, his brow drawing down in concern. "Is that unusual for him?"
"Kind of," Katara said. "He's in the middle of work crisis. He can be very single minded when he's working. He usually takes the time to text, though." Aang regarded her quietly for a moment. He put his hand over hers again, tracing lazy circles around her ring.
"You know...they say that engagement is the time when couples are supposed to be attached at the hip," he observed.
"Yeah, this whole investor fiasco is really cutting into our gross engaged couple time," Katara snorted. "But I knew going in that running this company was going to take a lot of his time. It's a fairly new company. You know how much work it takes to get a business off the ground."
"That's true," Aang conceded. "Still, if I had someone like you, I'd drop everything for a text." Katara blushed and slowly withdrew her hand from Aang's.
"It's not that simple," she said. "Especially with what's happening now. He has a lot more people than just me to take care of. I'm proud of him and how much he cares. I just...I miss him."
"Good thing he's coming soon, then," Aang sat back in his chair, arms folded and eyes directed away from Katara. She paused before she answered.
"Yeah..." she said, tucking her phone into her purse. "Good thing." Then she stood up and gathered her things. "I should get going. If I get home fast enough, I can knock out one of these flyers before dinner."
Aang stood up and walked Katara back to the front of the shop. He caught her hand before she left the shop. Katara looked from their hands back up to Aang's soulful grey eyes.
"You deserve to be cared for the most," he said. Katara nodded dumbly and hurried out of the shop into the chilly winter air. It was sharp after being in the heated office for so long. Katara felt like she was waking suddenly.
As Katara turned down the block to her father's house, her phone buzzed. Zuko's name flashed across the screen, alerting her that he had finally, finally answered her text.
I'm sorry I took so long to get back to you.
I know I said I'd be there in four days, but something's come up with the investors. I have to change my plans. I'll talk to you soon.
Love you and miss you
Katara took several deep breaths. She wouldn't cry. She had acknowledged this possibility privately before. It wasn't Zuko's fault. And despite what impression this was leaving on her family and friends, she knew that Zuko did truly care and would be there if he could. She just wished that it was in his power to put her ahead of his company more often.

The Earth King Re-Watch
This was a fun episode. I wouldn't call it one of my favorites, but I enjoyed it. Seeing Aang & Appa finally reunited is pretty heartwarming. I was a little annoyed & confused by Sokka's random new "positive attitude" even though he had some really endearing moments in this episode. I just don't get it. Yeah, Appa is back but you just discovered an underground creepy brainwashing cult & your old frienemy was killed? You have no reason to believe you're any closer to convincing King Kuei to hear you out? I can see the whole "brand new positive attitude" thing happening once the other good news hits later, but right at the start? It just felt jarring & weird.
Katara saying she wants to leave this horrible place....I will take my "Jet's death mattered" crumbs where I can get them. I think Katara & Toph's idea to leave makes a lot of sense, but so does Sokka & Aang's desire to force Kui to hear them out...I mean, they are trying to plan this attack on the eclipse...So, that was a well-set-up conflict, because both sides make sense. I also absolutely loved the fight scene with the Gaang breaking into the palace! Everything about it was iconic. It was neat to see Aang use earth-bending in a fight against earth-benders too because he usually relies heavily on air-bending. I loved Katara & Sokka apologizing lmao - & Toph saying Kue's distrust after they broke in made sense.
Kue is a bit pathetic & easily pushed around so I'm not a huge fan of him. Bumi has a chaotic morality & he's not always the most LIKABLE person but at least he's fun so I always enjoy him. Kue is just pathetic, & not even in the hot way lol
Possibly the best part of the episode was Katara telling Sokka that he gets to see their dad & Sokka bouncing around in excitement & hugging her & kissing her while she's just like "yeah yeah, I know, I'm great."
Tumblr media
[ID: Sokka saying "Nicest....sister...ever!" to Katara while Aang & Toph watch.]
Also, the Gaang talking about how they will miss each other while they're split up was really cute. I loved the group hug & Sokka like "alright alright, we love each other" trying to end the hug was such a mood - me when friends or family try to get all touchy-feely lol! Sokka gets 10 iconic behavior points for interrupting Aang before he could confess his crush on Katara. I wish I was giving out jerk points so I could give them to Aang for the line "yeah, girls are waiting for us." Ugh, pushing the Katara/Aang agenda before Jet's body is even cold? The writers deserve jerk points for that tbh! Not even Aang really, 'cause he's just a kid with a crush, but I'm still allowed to be annoyed.
Anyway. Zuko gets 500 iconic behavior points for doing one nice thing in his entire life & immediately collapsing like a Victorian maiden. Zuko you drama queen, ily. However, while I've said this re-watch has made me appreciate Zukaang I MEANT the romantic ship Zuko & Aang NOT this monstrosity that lives in my nightmares.
Tumblr media
[id: a horrifying image of Zuko & Aang's faces combined.]
What the fuck lmao
As for the rest of Zuko's dreams.....Very interesting lines from Azula & a very interesting performance from our lord & savior Grey Delisle. I will say nothing more about that :)
Tumblr media
[id: Dennis from It's Always Sunny saying "because of the implication..."]
Anyway *ahem* right, I think Zuko clearly sees his father & sister as sort of devils & Iroh as an angel on his shoulder. This is what the writers were going for, & an unpopular opinion maybe but I think it works to an extent. The biggest issue here is that Zuko continues until the end of the series to treat Iroh like a messiah of good & he never learns to view Azula with any more nuance despite evidence that Iroh is not perfect & Azula is not irredeemable. Another issue I take is that while I love Azula as the embodiment of the Fire Nation & that darker path here, especially right before Crossroads of Destiny, & I actually find the shifting of the blame about Ursa's disappearance & by extension Zuko's bad childhood from Ozai to Azula super interesting - it's again, just something that's never addressed as wrong by the narrative & therefore becomes frustrating.
Tumblr media
[id: Azula as a blue dragon next to a scarless Zuko]
I would have liked to see Zuko's black & white way of thinking about his uncle & sister (which is just really obvious here with the angel & devil motifs) addressed by the narrative. However, I don't think the whole "two sides arguing for different paths through dream visions" in itself is bad. It's certainly fun to watch & makes for a nice visualization of Zuko's internal struggle. Oh, Zuko & Azula get +500 iconic behavior points for foreshadowing the Crossroads of Destiny betrayal. I know it's just a fever dream version of Azula, but she still gets the points.
Oh, & Azula, Mai & Ty Lee get 1000 points each for their Kyoshi Warrior surprise reveal at the end. I love them so fucking much.
Anyway, that's all I have for this episode! Tune in next time for more rambling thoughts on the kid's cartoon!

[ID 1: A collage of three images. One is of Izumi from Legend of Korra wearing square-shaped glasses. One is a black and white alamy stockphoto of an East Asian man with round glasses. The third is a pair of round glasses on a table. ID 2: King Kui wearing a pair of tiny round glasses. / end ID]
on glasses!Zuko
inspired by a conversation with @volkswagonblues
some headcanons involve zuko with piercings or tattoos as a kind of visual symbol of his rebellion. I respect that — and the aesthetic is great! — but it feels culturally inaccurate: upper class / wealthy East Asian men historically didn’t participate in any form of body modification. In addition, zuko is canonically a well-to-do mama’s boy; would any true East Asian mama’s boy do something like piercings or tattoos? no. Instead, I present to you glasses Zuko.
Arguments for glasses zuko: 1. Zuko spends a lot of time doing Fire Lord stuff, which I would assume involves reading. Even if he were the world’s laziest Fire Lord and didn’t read a single document presented to him, it’s pretty accepted throughout the fandom that he is a theater nerd, so he’d still spend a lot of time reading scripts. 2. Zuko’s pre-banishment life involved working really hard to impress his father. He should have vision problems from childhood overwork alone. 3. partial vision Zuko is also pretty commonly accepted fanon, so. 4. Wouldn’t it be funny if Zuko already has vision problems in Book 1+2 but doesn’t wear glasses for some reason? Half of the time Zuko yells and contorts his face because he’s angry, but the other half of the time he’s honest-to-god just squinting because he can’t tell if that guy in the distance is Zhao or not?

“Aang and Sokka, I wish you a good journey,” Earth King Kui bid farewell. “Ba Sing Se owes you it’s thanks, and we look forward to your safe return.”
Your group of friends bowed to him, small smiles on all of your faces. You had finally managed to get to him and tell him about the war, and expose Long Feng, and now each of you had specific tasks to complete. It made you slightly uncomfortable to split up, but things were never easy in times of war.
You had decided to stay behind in the city with Katara so she wouldn’t be alone. Sokka deserved to see his father, so she had so kindly opted out of the journey, and upon realizing you had no business at the Eastern Temple with Aang you chose to stay with her.
“Your Majesty,” a guard came up, alerting everyone. “There are three female warriors here to see you. They’re from the island of Kyoshi.”
“That’s Suki!” Sokka yelled as he fell to the ground from Appa’s side. He groaned dramatically as he squirmed around, and you reached a hand out to help him.
“You know these warriors?” The Earth King questioned, taking a few steps forward.
“Oh yeah,” Sokka replied as he stood up straight. “The Kyoshi Warriors are a skilled group of fighters. Trustworthy, too.” He smiled. “They’re good friends of ours.”
The Earth King nodded his head. “Then we shall welcome them as honored guests.”
--------------------
The sun was high in they sky as the Kyoshi Warriors made their way down the path before them, lined with Earth Kingdom guards on either side. The three girls, in matching makeup and uniform, wore stoic expressions as they inched closer to the King.
“In our hour of need, it is with the highest honor that I welcome our esteemed allies,” he extended his hands, and the girls kneeled before him, resting their painted foreheads against their hands. “The Kyoshi Warriors.”
Slowly, they rose back up, revealing their faces to the very man they were there to overthrow. “We are the Earth King’s humble servants,” the girl in front mused, eyes sharp.
--------------------
You sighed. You knew that this was what you’d signed up for when you stayed behind with Katara, but that didn’t mean you enjoyed the things you had to do. You sat on the ground beside your friend, Momo resting on your shoulder, and a large map of the four nations separated the both you from the row of Generals you were speaking with. They were so far away you couldn't even make out their features, and you were sure that the both of you looked like two specks of blue rather than kids.
“General Fong’s base will serve as the launching point for the attack. In exactly two months, the Army and Navy will invade the Fire Nation on The Day of Black Sun,” he moved his arms about, and the clay pieces on the map that represented Earth King forces moved. They glided towards the Fire Nation Capital, and Momo flew from your shoulder and landed with a small crash, and all the pieces fell over.
“Or we could send in Momo to do some damage,” Katara joked with a laughed as the lemur moved around and knocked more things over. “Cause the...” when she was met with a stern silence, you nudged her with your elbow. “Sorry,” she quietened down and you rubbed her arm a few times.
General How closed his fist and all the pieces erected themselves, causing Momo to jump with a screech and retreat to the comfort of your shoulder. “All we need is the Earth King’s seal in order to execute the plan,” he placed down a scroll, and it glided towards the pair of you on a block of stone.
Katara picked up the scroll as you both rose up from the ground. “We’ll get these scrolls to him right away. Thank you, General How.” You bowed and turned away from the men, and together you and Katara took off down the corridor.
The walk through the Upper Ring was nice, Ba Sing Se truly was a beautiful place. It was nothing like what you and Katara were used to, which was snow, ice, and water. The North and the South had their differences but one thing rang true for both places; it was cold and wet and blue, but it was home. The city was different, hues of green and yellow filling the streets, gold trinkets lining the windows of some shops, expensive clothes on racks in others.
But the nice tea shop that caught your eye was probably the nicest thing you’d seen. It was beautiful and shiny, and evidently very popular. “Hey, Katara, let’s get some tea!” You pointed towards the building. “Come on, it’ll be nice,” you smiled and batted your eyelashes, giving her your best pleading expression.
“Hmm, alright,” she agreed. “What do you say, Momo? A cup of tea before we get back to the  Earth King?” She asked the lemur on your shoulder. He chattered in response, looking between the both of you with his large eyes. It was all you needed to start heading towards the shop.
You were greeted at the entrance after trekking up the steps. “Table for three, please.” Katara spoke to the pretty woman while your eyes scanned the surrounding area.
“Uncle!” A familiar voice shouted. “I need two jasmine, one green, and one lychee.” None other than Prince Zuko of the Fire Nation, the very boy who’d been hunting you and your friends for so long, wore a uniform and flitted around the shop. You nudged the girl beside you, and she gasped.
“I’m brewing as fast as I can,” the old man you recognized as Zuko’s uncle assured with a small smile, standing in the kitchen area of the tea shop. It was as if time had stopped, and everything in the world went out of whack. Nothing made sense, this didn’t make sense.
Nothing needed to be said, no look needed to be shared; you and Katara had the same thought in mind.
We need to tell the Earth King.
The both of you bolted down the stairs and ran away, flashes of blue heading towards to King. You were panting by the time you got there, but the relief of seeing Suki resting on the ground in front of the throne, her gold headband and oil makeup familiar and comforting, was sweet.
“Thank goodness you’re here, Suki,” Katara rushed. “Something terrible is going on. The Fire Nation has infiltrated the city. I just saw Prince Zuko and his uncle!”
Suki’s eyes widened a fraction before a sly grin grew on her lips. It was then you realized that this wasn’t your friend, and the two girls resting behind her weren’t Kyoshi Warriors either. You don’t know why it had taken you so long to figure out, or why Katara still hadn’t figured it out herself. This girl was acting nothing like Suki, and it was so painfully obvious now.
“We have to tell the Earth King right away!” Katara urged, and your eyes cut to her. Something was wrong, and when the girl wearing your friend’s headband, and your friend’s uniform stood up, the female waterbender finally figured it out.
“Oh don’t worry.” The mystery girl assured, slowly stepping forward into the light, and her golden eyes shined. “I’ll be sure to let him know.”
Momo screeched and flew from your shoulder, fleeing to who knows where; but you didn’t mind, he was safer elsewhere. Suddenly, the Chi blocker you’d fought on several occasions leapt forward, a flurry of flips and handstands and acrobatics. Her hand landed on Katara’s shoulder as she flew over her, and the your friend dropped to the floor. The water she had pulled from her pouch sloshed to the ground, and you pulled it up and combined it with your own water.
Before you could do anything, however, the girl grabbed you in the same spot she ahd grabbed your friend, and she pulled you backwards. You lost the sensation in your limbs, and you dropped and landed in a puddle of water.
“So, Zu Zu’s in the city, too.” Azula mused, walking closer to the both of you. You could only see above you, and the girl with the knives you’d been thinking about since Omashu entered your line of sight. The edges were blurry, and steadily growing more fuzzy, but you’d recognize her any day-- even with the makeup.
“I think it’s time for a family reunion.”
--------------------
“How’d you learn that?” You asked, and the girl beside you chuckled. You were sitting so close together that your’re arms brushed every so often.
“I was bored in my room, so I taught myself a trick,” she shrugged, throwing another knife at the wall. It stuck an inch away from the one she’d thrown just before, not any higher or lower.
“Well, you’re really good,” you complimented, and your cheeks reddened. “You think you could teach me?”
She looked at you, her dark hair shining in the light. She grinned at you, small but sweet nonetheless. “Sure,” she drawled. “Someday.”
You couldn’t take your eyes off of her. She was so pretty, and she looked so cool and collected. She was a complete mystery, one you wanted so desperately to solve.
--------------------
That was wishful thinking.
You wouldn’t get to see her that close, or brush your arm against hers, or have her smile at you. She was on Azula’s side, and you were on Aang’s. It was as simple as that. None of the other factors needed to be mentioned; like how you didn’t know her name, or her age, or how she got mixed up in the schemes of the Royal family.
You wouldn’t get to learn how to throw knives, or just what to do to make the Fire Nation girl smile like she did whenever you dreamt of her. That’s all you would ever have, dreams and wishful thinking.

So I sat down and read Howl’s Moving Castle yesterday and I had some ideas for a Zukka AU. The story would obviously have to change a bit but here were the basics of the idea:
Howl —> Sokka
Howl’s sister —> Katara
——> Wales is the South Pole/village
Howl’s sister is also kind of GranGran
Sokka’s Magic is very science/intellect based like Howl’s
Sokka is still a drama lama but way less so than Howl — this time is TWO drama lama’s living together and everything just imploded more
—> Sokka still gets all the girls,
Curse is from Hama
Hama is the Witch of the Waste (yeah, she seems fucked up enough to make a human puppet out of chopped up people) —> still wants to get Sokka’s head for her human doll - the curse is the same, to bring Sokka to the Waste so she can get his head.
Hama’s Fire/Star is Koh! Takes the form of Kuruk’s wife when seducing Sokka
Sokka’s Fire/Star is actually Yue
Hama curses Zuko with old age, she got her hands on Ty-Lee and LongFang, Ty-Lee thought of Azula when interrogated which brought Hama to the family shop to catch Zuko in a mood while attending the shop. He offends her, she curses him to be old to get him out of her way.
Martha —-> Kiyi
Lettie —-> Azula
Sophie —-> Zuko
Zuko - first born, doomed to fail first, feels as if they can never do anything right, whatever they do blows up in their face, wants to please their parent but may be being taken advantage of, kind of a little bit angry at everything - very explosive/destructive anger. Side note: second half of the book Sophie is kind of the definition of “aren’t you tiered of being nice, don’t you just wanna go ape shit”
Zuko’s Magic is still gives things life by rambling to them (emotion based magic).
Azula - is strong willed, doesn’t feel uncle knows what is best for her, decides to make her own way in life becoming powerful under her own power, she will not bend to the “fate” of a middle child. Is actually really good at magic.
Kiyi - doesn’t want the burden of a great destiny of the youngest child. Just wants to have fun, meet someone nice, and settle down. Cares deeply for her oldest sibling and just wants them to make good life choices that center on themself for once. Kiyi is aged up in this so it’s not like a bunch of guys crushing on a 5 year old.
Fanny —> Iroh, he does love the children, he’s just kind of also really into living life to the fullest. Both Kiki and Azula bad mouth him to Zuko who isn’t sure how to feel about him at that point.
Iroh is still the only one to recognize Zuko on sight, hug him, and then threaten to beat the shit out of whoever cursed him (good parallel to the terrifying protective aunt thing they have going in the books)
Ozai and Ursa are the original parents - Ozai dies first, Ursa remarries and has Kiyi, Ursa and new Husband (Noren) die and Iroh comes to help with the children and the shop.
Character Summary:
Sokka - Howl Jenkins
Katara - Megan Jenkins
Hama - The Witch of the Waste
Yue - Calcifer
Koh/Kuruk’s wife - Mss Angorian
Long Fang - Prince Justin
King Kui - The king of Ingary
Bosko - Princess Valeria
“Wang also says he won’t do it unless he gets your child’s hand in marriage!” The king gained a look of confusion, “my . . . do you mean my bear?” At that moment grunting and shuffling could be heard from under the table, a bear’s nose jutted out from beneath the table cloth, soon followed by the rest of the furry glory that was Prince Bosco. “Oh” said Zuko weakly, suddenly feeling very foolish.
Ty-Lee - Ben Sullivan
Azula - Lettie Hatter
Kiyi - Martha Hatter
Zuko - Sophie Hatter
Iroh - Fanny Hatter
Master Piandao - Mrs. Pentstemmon
Aang - Michael Fisher —> he’s still into Katara not Kiyi in this, Sokka is less, ‘I’m separating my two lives’ in this one, he lets them visit his home more than the one time and Aang just fell head over heals for his sister, she thinks he’s cute and funny and is kind of into him too. This does however make it easier for Hama to locate her.
Lo and Li - Mrs. Annabel Fairfax
Mai - another apprentice of Lo and Li
Ozai and Ursa - the parents
That’s what I got so far.

@glassmuses said: I found a secret hidden under the garden.
I found a secret hidden under the garden. (English) - Ma leidsin aia alla peidetud saladuse. (Estonian)
"Mommy, mommy!"
The 5-year-old airbender ran into the kitchen in such haste that he barely managed to slow down. Tenzin whizzed past his mother and had to grab her navy tunic in order not to crash into the wall.
"Woah, there! Be careful, sweetie!" Katara exclaimed as her son's airbending-induced running nearly swept her off her feet, literally. Once she'd regained her balance, she dipped her hands back into the bubbly water in the sink.
"What's the matter?"
"I found a secret hidden under the garden. You gotta come see it!"
"Sorry, sweetie, but I can't right now. I'm washing the dishes."
"But maybe it won't be there when you finish. C'mon!" the young airbender declared and grasped his mother's hand. She dropped a dirty plate into the sink with a splash and was forced to follow her son, who dragged her into the hallway of the temple.
"Woah! Okay-okay, I guess we're going outside then.."
Katara shook the remnants of the soap off her hands and waterbended them dry as they dashed outside. Tenzin scampered towards the pond, coming to a halt next to the bridge in front of their house. He raised a finger to his lips.
"Shh!.. We have to be very quiet, otherwise we'll scare them away."
"We'll scare who away? What is it that you wanna show me so badly?" she wondered in a hushed tone.
Tenzin showed the way as he easily crossed the pond with a gust of airbending that carried him over. He landed on the huge stones that circled the pond on the other side, knelt down and crawled underneath one of the bushes. A moment later, he crawled back out and waved a hand to his mother, beckoning her to join him.
Katara stepped across the pond equally as silently, by waterbending icy stepping stones beneath her feet with each step she took. Once she'd made it across, she also got down on all fours and, together with her son, they crawled closer to the bush and pushed some of the branches aside to reveal the secret. She gasped.
"Oh wow!"
There it was, a fresh family of three ring-tailed winged lemurs - a mother with two identical babies, who'd probably been born merely a few hours ago. They were close to her body, protected by the long tail she'd curled up around them for warmth. She stared back at the uninvited guests with her striking orange eyes in suspicion.
"How did you find them?" Katara wondered, her mouth still agape and eyes just as wide as the mama lemur's.
"I heard some unusual screeches in the morning, and later, there was this weird chirping coming from these bushes. So I decided to have a closer look."
The waterbender stroked her son's back and gave him a kiss on his bald head.
"I'm so proud of you, Tenzin! This is an amazing discovery. We have to show this to daddy once he gets back from the city."
"I know! I read that twin lemur babies are born in only 1 out of 10 cases. Do you know how rare they are? Plus, they're so cute!"
Tenzin attempted to pet them, but the mother lemur hissed at him and swung her paw at his hand, leaving a small scratch on the back.
"Ow! Mommy, she hurt me!"
Katara giggled as she waterbended some water from the pond to heal the minuscule scar.
"No, sweetie. She was trying to protect her babies. That's what all mothers do. If a stranger wanted to lay hands on you, or Kya and Bumi, I'd probably slice their hands off, too."
Tenzin didn't fully get his mother's dark humour, but he did feel better when she healed his boo-boo. Katara wiped away the tears from the corners of his light greyish blue eyes and kissed him on the cheek.
"Let's give her some privacy, okay? She's been through a lot today. And she needs some bonding time with her babies."
"Good idea, mommy."
----------x----------
"Emme, emme!"
"Oot! Olgu-olgu, eks me siis lähme vist õue.."
Katara raputas seebijäänused käte küljest maha ja veetaltsutas need kuivaks, kui nad õue tormasid. Tenzin lippas tiigi suunas, jäädes seisma nende maja ees oleva silla kõrval. Ta tõstis sõrme huultele.
"Kuss!.. Me peame olema hästi tasa, muidu hirmutame nad minema."
"Kelle me ära hirmutame?
See on hämmastav avastus.
"Anname talle veidi privaatsust, eks? Ta on täna palju läbi elanud. Ja ta vajab oma poegadega sideme loomiseks natuke aega."
"Hea mõte, emme."
Author's note: My first thoughts circled around the word 'garden' and I immediately thought of the lovely pond in front of Aang and Katara's home on Air Temple Island. Next, I had to figure out what secret would be hidden there, and who'd find it. Being eager (and somewhat obligated) to learn new things about his culture and the world, young Tenzin seemed like the perfect fit. I've been watching "The Durrells" BBC series lately, so the idea of having him show off his knowledge about animals to his mother might've been inspired by that. Did you notice the reference to a scene in the original series? (It's from "Zuko Alone", where Ursa comforted Zuko after the mama turtle duck bit his ankle to defend her ducklings.)

Note
Iroh = Zhong Kui
Aang = Vamana or Merlin or (I doubt it) Horus
Momo = Rat
Zuko = Agni
Katara = Yemoja
Toph = Cabrakan or (most likely) Terra
That’s honestly all the gods I believe would be considered / would work
People saying Rat for Momo are sleeping on Camazotz. Bat boiii's kit is perfect for Momo, especially his ult!
Momo can’t be that large and they can’t scale camazotz down in an already extreme model changing skin unfortunately

Zutara Month - Day 3 - A New Year
During their travels, Katara had become a very light sleeper. At the time, it was necessary to be accustomed to the immediate danger of Fire Nation soldiers, but now that the war was over, this trait had become quite a nuisance. So Katara groaned as she was awakened by the shuffle of feet. Her body cried out in pain and her head hurt.
Katara slowly opened her eyes and discovered that it was night and that she was in Iroh’s sitting room, still in her warm festival robes.
The streetlamps that shone through the window illuminated her friends, who were scattered around the room. Toph laying face down on the wooden floor, a patterned blanket draped over her petite form. Behind the Earthbender lay Aang, who was leaning against the wall. Momo was nuzzled in between his neck and shoulder. Sokka was flung across the green sofa at a weird angle to make room for Suki, who was cuddling beside him.
Katara blinked a few times. Why were they here and not in their respective rooms in the Earth Kingdom Palace?
She tried to recall the night before. There was a grand New Year’s party at Kui’s palace. It was full of dancing, fireworks, and wine (that Katara had to personally remove from Young Lady Beifong’s hand). Aang shared his vast knowledge in party tricks. Sokka gifted his bad jokes to the Earth Kingdom elite, which after a few glasses were very appreciated. Zuko brought sparklers from his homeland, and Katara had to heal more than one burnt hand.
She then tried to remember the countdown, but couldn’t. The memories from the night before seemed to blur together. Katara assumed the alcohol must have kicked in at some point.
Katara attempted to go back to sleep, but no matter how much she flipped around, she could not find any comfort on the wooden floor. She decided to seek out one of the apartment’s guest rooms and gave a dejected sigh before she pulled herself up. Katara felt her bones creak from sleeping on such a hard surface.
As she silently made her way down the hallway, she was stopped by a dim light in the kitchen. She poked her head inside, assuming to find Iroh preparing for the day. Instead, she discovered Zuko making a pot of tea.
“You woke me up,” she said quietly.
Zuko flipped around to face her. The prestigious Fire Lord looked flustered. “Oh, I’m sorry. I was trying to be quiet,” he apologized.
Katara leaned against the doorway and rubbed her sleepy eyes. “What are you doing up so late?”
“Actually, it’s about a half hour before dawn,” he said as he sorted the herbs, “I was going to watch the sunrise with some tea.”
She looked at the herbs he was preparing and smirked. “You better share that hangover blend with me.”
He gave her a smile. “As long as you share the sunset with me.”
“Oh, how poetic,” Katara teased.
Zuko immediately looked flustered. “I mean if you want to. You don’t have to if you really don’t want-”
“Zuko,” she interrupted him before he could talk himself out of his offer, “I would love to.”
As Zuko put the herbs in the kettle, Katara offered to set up the tea tray. He showed her the cabinet that contained a vast collection of teacups and pots. She chose a simple yellow set that had elegant golden rims.
After Zuko was finished making the tea, they made their way out to the porch. Katara placed the tray on a small table. Zuko poured the tea before he sat down across from her. The stars had already disappeared, and the sky was slowly turning blue.
“In the Fire Nation, the New Year starts at sunrise,” he said as he picked up his cup.
Katara supposed it made sense. The Fire Nation made everything about their beloved Agni. “Well, I am happy to celebrate it with you,” she replied. The Master Waterbender took a sip of her tea and looked over at her companion. His unscarred eye was cast downward and his lips were pursed. She put down her teacup and it made a soft cling. “Zuko,” Katara asked, “what’s wrong?”
Zuko sighed. “I should be in the Fire Nation.”
“Why?” Katara asked. “Didn’t you have fun?”
Zuko rubbed the rim of his tea cup. “I feel like I’m not properly representing my people. I’m the Fire Lord, and here I am, in some foreign land, celebrating New Years with citizens that are not my own. What kind of leader am I?”
“Screw politics,” Katara said with a shrug. “You are here with us, and we are much more fun than boring old fire nobles.”
Zuko’s frown became deeper. “Thanks for the reassurance,” he mumbled sarcastically.
“No problem,” she said with a smile. She placed a hand on his arm. “But seriously, I’m really glad I got to see my best friend again. It’s been a while.”
Zuko looked at her, dumbfounded. “Best Friend? You mean me?”
“Yes, I mean you!” Katara said as she gave his arm a squeeze. “Who else?”
Zuko let out a breathy laugh. “Yeah…”
They sat there for a while, Katara’s hand resting on Zuko’s left arm. The cool air helped wake her up, and even though her head hurt like hell, she was glad she had the opportunity to watch the sunrise.
“Hey look!” Katara exclaimed as she let go of Zuko and pointed at the horizon. “Here comes the sun!” She could see the sun’s red rim slowly shine across the city.
“Make a wish,” Zuko said before taking a drink.
She giggled at the childish suggestion but complied. “I wish-”
“Don’t say it out loud!” he interrupted. “Mother always said that saying wishes out loud makes them obsolete.”
Katara laughed at the advice. “Okay, mighty Fire Lord,” she teased.
He gave her a smirk. “Plus, it’s more fun when it’s a secret.”
“Very true,” she replied before she closed her eyes. She took a deep breath. I wish that I get to see more of my friends.
Suddenly the back door was flung open with a bam. “Oh look at you lovebirds!” A familiar voice shouted out at them. Both Katara and Zuko flung themselves around to see who barged into their peaceful morning. Toph was standing at the doorway with a giant smirk on her face. Alongside her was Aang, who looked like he was dragged awake.
Katara rolled her eyes. “No. Nothing romantic. We were just watching the sunrise.”
Aang rubbed his eyes and mumbled something.
“I would think after last night, you two would be all over each other!” Toph gave a laugh as she and Aang made their way toward them.
Zuko stiffened next to her. Katara frowned and asked, “what are you talking about?”
“Yeah, Zuko, what am I talking about?” Toph was gleaming.
Katara stared suspiciously at Zuko. His face was blushed, but he remained silent.
“You two kissed last night,” her ex-boyfriend supplied as he scratched at his arrow.
She kissed Zuko? No. Zuko was her friend, and while he was considerably attractive, but she would never kiss him. Would she? The idea didn’t seem that detestable... Katara shook her head. “I don’t remember anything of the kind! I don’t know what you are talking about!”  Her stomach jolted when she stood up.
The great and powerful Avatar stifled a laugh.
“You must have been pretty wasted Sugar Queen. You smooched him a few hours after you got us booted out of the party,” the Earthbender gleefully informed.
She was kicked out of the party? She kissed Zuko? She felt dizzy all of a sudden. Katara flipped around to Zuko. “Do you remember this!?”
He gave her a panicked look. “You said you wanted a New Year’s kiss so I-”
She felt her cheeks become warm. She couldn’t believe this. She wouldn’t believe this. “I’m going to catch up on some sleep,” she shouted as she made her way back inside.  She felt her head throb even harder.
“Katara, please, I didn’t mean-” Zuko began.
“With no disturbances!”
I planned to get this in by this morning, but you know.

Today I ate the best bread! (English) - Täna ma sõin kõige paremat leiba! (Estonian)
"You want some more tofu, sweetie?" Katara asked, holding a piece of it between two chopsticks. She was almost done with her plate, so she wanted to share the leftovers with her boyfriend.
"Yes, please, sweetie!" Aang smiled and opened his mouth to let Katara feed him. If those two were getting along fine, then Sokka had a little bit of trouble with a certain earthbender named Toph, who was trying to steal small pieces from his plate. Besides him, the other person who didn't seem to be enjoying himself was the Fire Lord. Zuko felt rather on edge, being seated right next to the strange creature the Earth King called a bear. He wished he could've been sitting next to Aang or Sokka instead.
"Are you enjoying yourself, Your Majesty?" Hakoda nudged Kuei while he was busy offering a bit of his food to Bosco, who left Zuko alone for a minute.
"Very much, thanks for asking, Head Chieftain! Today I ate the best bread! What did you put in this? I've never tasted anything like it. Much more delicious than the stale bread they offer to me in the palace."
"It's made with love," Malina added, after which Hakoda awarded her with a quick kiss on the cheek, making her giggle.

Author's note: Thanks for the prompt! I gotta admit, I really had no idea for this one. The only thing I could associate with this was the ending of "North and South: Part Three", where the entire Gaang, the Southern Water Tribe family and the world leaders are eating together. Since I still don't have my preordered book yet, I improvised with this scene. And I really like how it turned out.

Note
(for the language prompt thing) "How did we get here?"
How did we get here? (English) - Kuidas me siia saime? (Estonian)
“Will you come back to visit us soon, Aang?” the little girl tugged at his forearm. The airbender chuckled at her enthusiasm and squatted down to her level, enveloping her in a loving embrace to say goodbye.
“I promise I’ll visit you again, Kiyi.”
“Kiyi, since you’ve been such a brave girl throughout this mess, Aang and I thought we’d give you a nice surprise before he has to leave for the Southern Water Tribe,” Zuko patted his baby sister’s head.
“Really? What is it?” she gasped, her eyes sparkling almost exactly like when she’d first met her big brother, making Zuko smile.
“Come here!” he picked her up and lifted her onto Aang’s back. She instinctively wrapped her arms around the airbender’s neck.
“Are you holding on tight?” Zuko asked, she nodded.
“Now close your eyes and don’t peek!”
“Okay, Zuzu!” Kiyi did as she was told. After that, the young Fire Lord whispered something into his friend’s ear, who grabbed his staff, opened it into a glider and carefully took off from the ground. The little girl felt a tad frightened because of the sudden whistling in her ears.
“Can I open my eyes now!?” she yelled.
“Yes, Kiyi! Open your eyes!” Zuko yelled back, watching how Aang was giving his baby sister a joyful ride. She waited a few seconds longer before she decided to open her eyes.
“Woah! How did we get here?.. Never mind, this is fuuuun!” Kiyi screamed with joy as Aang looped the loop.

“Ossa! Kuidas me siia saime?.. Vahet pole, see on lõbuuuus!” Kiyi kiljus rõõmust kui Aang tegi õhus silmuse.
Author’s note: Thanks for the prompt! This one was pretty hard to come up with, however, I immediately knew it’d have to be something with Zuko and Kiyi. These two wonderful siblings need more appreciation, too. I hope I did justice to them. Btw, I even reread “Smoke and Shadow” for inspiration. Having reread this too, I think it turned out cuter than I’d expected.
