His first thought is a derisive tongue lashing to the poor craftsmanship and idiots that don’t inspect their purchases for faults before they buy them. Then he remembers under whose mercy he is and reevaluates his thoughts. This is deliberate.

Managed to sneak in one last fic before the end of the year. The BG3 brainrot will fester well into next year for sure, though.

Summary: Leave it to a devil to cheat the outcome. The orthon unleashed a smattering of bombs—one last suicidal tirade to take them all down with him.

The swell of victory was short-lived. Astarion had been reckless. Stupid. Desperate.

But it was Lev who paid the price.

An alternate take on the post-Yurgir fight where Astarion attempts to comfort an injured Leviathala (OC). Spoilers for Act 2!

Then he screamed for my character when she went down, confessed his feelings the very next day, and it was over for me. I wrote this alternate scene within two days after finishing my playthrough lol.

Summary: Nineteen, no discernable life direction, stuck behind a counter as he watched everything pass him by. His mother didn’t outright call him a disappointment. And she wasn’t disappointed in him, not like other mums would be. Even so, he noticed her concern, the way she tried to push him to go to uni, to apply for this job or that. It was what mums did. His dad was too much like him to be anything but gently encouraging.

Getting a job at Uncle Norm’s Organ Emporium was the best way to keep her calm. A new start.

General Info

What is UraIchi Week?

It’s a week-long fanworks event to promote the Urahara Kisuke x Kurosaki Ichigo ship. There’s no sign-up, it’s just for fun, and everybody can participate. Completed works and wips are both acceptable, and any type of fanwork (fanfic, fanart, gifsets, etc.) is welcome. NSFW and/or potentialy trigger-y content is allowed, although please remember to tag your works properly.

The ship itself can be written romantically or platonically so long as it stars these two characters together in some way. Poly is also fine so long as Ichigo and Kisuke are still the focus of the fanwork. And crossovers and fusions are also allowed even if it isn’t one of the given prompts for the event. Basically, anything goes, and the only criteria is that it has to be UraIchi-centric.

For those of you with Tumblr, you can tag your stuff with #UraIchi Week 2022 in the first five tags of your post. I’ll be tracking that tag so I’ll see it and reblog it to this blog. (If it’s been a few days since you posted and I still haven’t reblogged it, something probably went wrong, Tumblr’s not always reliable, so just shoot me an ask about it and I’ll reblog it.)

Fic: A Taste of Ashes

This is for UraIchi Week 2022. One of two today. 

Prompt: Time Travel AU

Fic: A Taste of Ashes

They had betrayed him again. Kisuke hated that he had been willing to forgive once, only to have the second incarnation of Central 46 turn their back on him. Not just him, either. How many times had Ichigo saved Soul Society? Without asking for much in return. He wouldn’t even have been paid if Kisuke hadn’t worked things out so that Ichigo at least got that. 

Then they had betrayed them. 

It was no surprise that SoiFon had been willing to do it. No longer the captain of the Second, she had found some way to blame it on Kisuke. Not that he had anything to do with it. The Second was the Shihoin’s squad. It was always going to end up in the hands of the new Shihoin head. The only thing that Kisuke had to do with any of it was when Yoruichi asked if he thought her brother was ready, he said yes, the boy was. 

Well, young man now. Time did go by so fast at times. 

Kisuke was an excellent assassin. But he wasn’t on guard all the time. Nobody could live like that. So when SoiFon made her move, it unfortunately worked extremely well. He knew that. What happened was a bit of a blur, but he remembered seeing SoiFon, and hearing Ichigo yell. SoiFon bragged about her backing, about how he had turned Yoruichi against her. None of it made sense, though Kisuke was pretty distracted by the fact that he had been bleeding out. And his focus was even more scattered as he heard Ichigo fighting.

He remembered his mouth tasting like blood and the bitter ashes of betrayed trust. 

Then Kisuke opened his eyes in a room he had not seen in a very long time.

He looked up at the pale ceiling, slowly blinking as he forced his breathing to slow, on the edge of hyperventilating.  Whatever happened, this was well outside of Kisuke’s plans. He was sure that being attacked and ending up in one’s childhood bedroom was enough outside the realm of possibility that he could be forgiven for not planning for this particular eventuality.

Though part of his mind was already spinning out new ideas for if such an event occurred again. 

Sitting up, he glanced around. It really did look like his room. Not exactly correct, but that was because he had changed it as he grew older, after his mother sent him to join the Shihoin household with occasional visits home. One of the few times he knew for a fact she loved him. Because he had been very unhappy living in her palace. 

There were families scattered among the palace lands, but none that he really interacted with. It had been a quiet, lonely life. Then his mother arrived one day and told him that he was being sent to the Shihoin to learn how to interact with others in a more normal way. 

Slipping from the bed, Kisuke stared down at his legs. Which were much shorter than he remembered. Eyes going wide, he ran to where there was a mirror. He stared at the image that looked back at him. 

He was…young. Very young. Kisuke was wearing something vibrantly colored, which he hadn’t done since leaving home. His eyes were huge as Kisuke touched the glass, the smooth surface cold under his fingertips. This child version of himself touched the other side. 

This didn’t make sense, and Kisuke let himself get lost in his own mind for a bit, trying to think of how something like this could happen. It was a minor mental break, but not the worst Kisuke ever had. At least a fifty percent smaller change he’d create something like the Hogyoku. 

Finally, however, he dragged himself back to reality. He took in the world around him again. Slowly, this time. First his appearance. He had looked at himself every day for years, making sure his outfits would be pleasing to the eye. Kisuke had hated having to change until his mother was satisfied. 

Then Kisuke went around the room. He checked out various decorations, trinkets that he had collected. Mostly small sketches of his odd little family, or toys given by his uncles. A few hidden treasures. The effort was tiring, as it felt as if he was dragging around weights with each move. Whatever happened, it had drained Kisuke.

It took time for Kisuke to realize that he really had gone back. To the time just before he was sent to live with the Shihoin. 

He was also alone.

There was no sign of Ichigo, not even a hint of his reiatsu filled the air. Even as far as Kisuke could stretch out his senses, there was nothing that implied that Ichigo had ever existed. Even that spot in his chest, something that lingered once he had helped give Ichigo his powers back by donating part of his own, was gone.

Kisuke was exhausted, drained of power and mental energy, and trapped in his child form. Plus he had just lost Ichigo completely. So he let himself express all the rage and frustration and loss the best way he knew out. Crying was surprisingly therapeutic, and eventually his mother came to check on him. 

“What is wrong?” she asked, resting a cold hand on his hair. Kisuke looked up at her, struck again by how different they looked.

“I think I’m cursed,” he said softly. 

“You are,” his mother informed him. “But that is part of your blood. You simply need to make it a problem for others.” She said that, even as she petted his hair. Kisuke closed his eyes and leaned into the touch. In a way, this was how she showed that she did care, in some strange way.

Senjumaru hummed softly, several hands working on a project even as she allowed Kisuke to lean against her in exhaustion. Those jointed fingers tugged lightly at his hair, a touch of affection to the slight pulls. “What brought this up?” she asked finally.

“A dream,” he said, eyes closed, rage starting to build again, already rising to curl hot in his chest. Fuck them. Kisuke couldn’t do much now, but he had all the time in the world to plan. 

His mother hummed again. “That’s no surprise, then,” she said softly, a pair of golden fingers given a sharper tug. “You are the result of a wistful thought and a dream of death. Be careful what you dream of.” She touched the tip of his nose with a metal fingertip. “You have the strength to make them come true if you wish it hard enough.”

These were hints, and Kisuke had to laugh to himself about how long it took for him to figure out who his father was. Mother gave him plenty of clues, after all. Even if he had to grow up first to really understand them. 

He sagged against her, closing his eyes. “Okay,” he said. Then, in a mimic of a long ago comment, the boy who had been betrayed and was given a second chance said fateful words. “I’m lonely.”

For a moment, Senjumaru goes still, looking down at him with flat eyes. He simply returned the look and waited. 

Then she nodded. 

“We shall make you someone else's problem,” she said easily, then stood. “I will return with news soon. Control your thoughts and your eyes, as I taught you.”

Kisuke nodded as well. “I shall do my best,” he said with a small smile. Though he wouldn’t let himself become so trapped that he could not reach his potential at will. Not again. That was what happened last time. Kisuke had trapped himself into the shell of a pure shinigami and it had killed him. 

No, he would train himself to use his full potential and be better able to protect himself and Ichigo.

Ichigo lingered in Kisuke’s dreams for years. Even when he was placed into Shihoin Yozuki’s care, meeting the clan head’s daughter shortly after. Yoruichi, older, eager to have a friend close to her own age, happily took to Kisuke. She already had Tessai, who tolerated the younger children easily enough. And, once again, Kisuke grew up happy.

Though something in him was waiting impatiently. He wanted to rush forward, push past all this time to get to the point he would see familiar orange hair again, the frown that could fade into the most amazing smile when Ichigo was really happy about something. 

But Kisuke couldn’t. Instead, he lived this simple part of his life again, laughing and growing and learning with his friends. Even as he chafed and waited for more. 

He actively made the choice to not stop Aizen or his plans. Yes, they were horrible, and it left scars on people he cared about. But without the man and his actions, Ichigo would never be born. The century of exile had been hard, and his friends had their lives changed forever, but it had worked out. 

For Ichigo, Kisuke would do a lot.

His biggest choice was to do with Tessai. The man had been forced to come with him and the Visored into exile, but Kisuke knew that it had been hard on his friend. Where Yoruichi had taken to exile like a duck to water, never wanting the duties forced onto her, Tessai had honestly loved his life in the Seireitei. He had thrived in a place where so much kido creation and study had happened. Even if he had stayed with Kisuke in the living world until the end, Kisuke knew how much he missed being part of the Kido Corps. 

So, when the time came, he made a choice. It required some work, to keep him hidden and safe from Aizen. But Tessai trusted Kisuke, and continued to do so. He appeared once Aizen had been driven off by Kisuke’s own skills, and took them back to the Twelve.

Kisuke made him leave.

Arrest, sentencing, and rescue happened shortly after. Tessai looked at Kisuke across the collected bodies of the unconscious Visored.

“Why?” he asked softly.

Kisuke couldn’t help but give him a small smile back. Was tired and exhausted, because he had worked himself to the bone setting the groundwork to help stabilize the others. He needed time to finish that and recover. The cells they put people in were not kind. They drained reiatsu on top of keeping people bound. “Because you are happy here. Besides, you can be our inside man.” 

They looked at each other. While Kisuke and Yoruichi had been the best of friends, Kisuke always had and would always have a soft spot for Tessai. The man had kept him sane for years in exile.

Kisuke was going to be more alone than he had been since he lived in Senjumaru’s palace, but that was okay. At the end of it would be Ichigo. 

He hoped.

Tessai sighed. “I would argue, but I know you are too stubborn,” he said gruffly. Which Kisuke could admit to. He really was stubborn. All three of them were. Then Tessai pulled both Yoruichi and Kisuke into a tight hug.

“Be careful,” the man grumbled against Kisuke’s hair, already knowing that Yoruichi would be going as well. Kisuke latched onto him with a hug.

“We’ll be back before you miss us too much,” he muttered the lie against Tessai’s shoulder, returning the hug as best he could. Was going to miss having him around, but it was for the best. Tessai would be happier here. “I’m sure you’ll have lots of new things to show me.”

Kisuke hoped that this didn’t come back to haunt him, pouring all his desire for his friend to be happy and safe out into the world around them. Things had a tendency to work out for him when he did that. He wanted Tessai to be safe, happy, and free to do as he wanted. 

This was his first major change since he came back, and Kisuke wondered how it would play out.

Ichigo stared quietly at the hole in the side of his home. Last night, he had dealt with an intruder, have her turn out to be far more than that, then fought a monster after getting stabbed in the chest to save his sister. 

It had been an eventful night. 

Even more so because, as soon as he had seen the girl in his room, a headache bloomed behind his eyes. Flashes of memories had flickered through his brain, but not fully came into full reality until he found himself falling forward, body suddenly weak after he battled the hollow. Ichigo knew that his family would be fine, because they had been fine the first time he had had this fight. 

The next morning, as he looked at the hole, Ichigo was a bit more convinced that he hadn’t made things up in his own mind. But the realization that he was in the past made something burn in his chest, and a terrible urgency to check on Kisuke. 

He still remembered the other, gasping up bloody froth as Ichigo was doing his best to defend himself. Of SoiFon taunting his partner, even as Ichigo was slowly being overwhelmed by the others with her. 

Ichigo had fought a would be god. But not alone, and even he could be whittled away by people who specifically trained for it. 

Still, he had to rein in that need. First, he helped with getting the house picked up a bit with his sisters while their dad called for repairs. Then he walked his sisters to school. He fussed a little over them, because Ichigo had forgotten how small they were at this age. Karin and her tough act, and Yuzu who liked being all soft and sweet. They were so adorable at this age, and Ichigo couldn’t help but smile. He got why his dad bragged about them so much. They were a lot cuter than Ichigo himself was. 

Finally, once his sisters were safely delivered and their morning absence explained to the school, Ichigo took a deep breath. 

Then he ran all the way to the shoten. 

He knew he had no reason to go there. That it would be a moment of oddness. But he couldn’t stand not seeing Kisuke again. There was a rising swell of panic in his chest. Kisuke had been dying. Maybe already dead the last time Ichigo saw him. He -had- to see the other man. Even if the other had no idea who Ichigo was other than his planned weapon against Aizen. Seeing him would make everything all right. 

Because if Rukia was here, that meant that Aizen’s plans had gone off without any issues to this point. Ichigo couldn’t imagine why Kisuke, if Kisuke had also come back, wouldn’t have murdered Aizen at the first opportunity. 

Panting, ignoring how much he was sweating, Ichigo burst into the shoten. It was even called the Urahara Shoten. Kisuke had to be here. 

Behind the counter was a face he didn’t know. 

For a moment, Ichigo stood there panting, staring at the woman who was staring back at him, her long dark hair pulled back as she looked at him with eyes that were almost red. 

Ichigo’s heart sank low for a long moment. 

Then he felt Kisuke a moment before the other appeared, reiatsu boiling with emotion and tasting of blood. 

The pair looked at each other for a long moment, Ichigo still catching his breath, Kisuke’s eyes wide. Then Kisuke swallowed, hard enough for Ichigo to see it. “Ah, welcome to the Urahara Shoten. How can I….”

Ichigo cut the man’s words off with a kiss. Because it was Kisuke. His Kisuke. The one he last saw choking on his own blood as SoiFon intentionally ruined every attempt at kaido that Kisuke made. He felt somewhat different, something heavy in his reiatsu that Ichigo had never felt before, but the rest of it was familiar and warm and reached out to him even as his own powers reached out to Kisuke.

When they finally broke apart, Ichigo found he had to look up at the man and couldn’t wait until he hit his growth spurt again. Looking up to kiss all the time was going to put a crick in his neck. 

That line of thought was cut off as Kisuke wrapped his arms tightly around Ichigo and then pulled him out of the public area of the shop. Once they were somewhere private, Kisuke’s legs seemed to give out, and he sank to the ground, pulling Ichigo with him. Not that Ichigo was unhappy with that. He just adjusted so he could hug Kisuke back. 

The man’s face pressed against Ichigo’s shoulder, and the teen could feel the fine trembles that ran through Kisuke’s body.

“You came back,” the blond murmured against Ichigo’s shoulder, arms going even tighter around him. Almost too tight, but Ichigo was willing to bear with it for a bit. It seemed like Kisuke needed this. Ichigo wondered how long the other had been here. 

“I did,” he said. “Kisuke…?” He wanted to ask, but at the same time, Ichigo wasn’t sure he wanted to know. 

“I was a child,” the man answered the unasked question. Of course he knew what Ichigo wanted to know. “Just before my mother sent me to the Shihoin clan to learn with them.” His words were muffled against Ichigo, not letting up on the cling. “It’s been a very long time, Ichigo-san.”

Grimacing, Ichigo petting his fingers along Kisuke’s back. “Where’s Tessai?” he asked. Because the woman at the counter was definitely not Tessai.

“He’s in Soul Society,” Kisuke answered. “He was happy there, so I arranged things so that when I went into exile, he didn’t have to do so as well.” He finally pulled back, though his hands were still curled into Ichigo’s shirt. “I was afraid you’d never remember, Ichigo-san.”

Ichigo had so many questions. “How come Aizen is still alive?” That was really the most important one. The rest of the questions sort of branched off that one. As he asked, he was studying Kisuke’s face. The older man looked tired, but happy. Though there was something more manic than normal in his eyes. Ichigo was going to have to tease out the reason for that later. 

Right now, Ichigo was most focused on just looking at this healthy, non-dying Kisuke. Who was looking at Ichigo just as intently as Ichigo was looking at him. 

A glance away at that question, and Ichigo knew that he was going to be both annoyed and pleased with the response. 

“If I did, you wouldn’t have been born without me taking his place.” Kisuke looked at Ichigo. “I would have if needed, but I’d rather leave him the villain. If you didn't remember, I couldn’t stand the idea of you thinking of me as the bad guy.”

For a long moment, Ichigo just stared at him. Then he found himself smiling. “Idiot,” he said, leaning in to kiss the man again. Kisuke practically melted against him, and it made Ichigo feel warm and content. He was a possessive man, it was just part of his nature, and seeing Kisuke so happy to be with him made that part of Ichigo purr. 

The two of them stayed like that for a bit, curled up together and kissing. It soothed both of them, though Ichigo knew that he’d have to go eventually. Had Rukia to deal with and his sisters would be waiting for him at home. 

Later, he’d ask Kisuke about whatever plans the man must have been making. Ichigo was sure there was a way to defeat Aizen without losing his powers in the mix. And if not, he’d ask why. Because he trusted Kisuke with his life.

Right now, though, he was going to enjoy this second chance.

Isane: What is talking so long?

Kiyone: Maybe they went and died?

Orihime: I might still be ticked at Ichigo but knowing the fact he went with their is no chance any of them are dead.

Just then Yoruichi runs out with Suì-Fēng in her arms

Orihime: What happened to her?

Yoruichi: Short story, embarrassment, long story best not to talk about it just heal her.

Isane, Kiyone and Orihime: On it!

Just then Taylor, Anthony, Ichigo, Grimmjow, Uryū, Brandan and the rest of the Stealth Force leave the hideout

Taylor: You could say that Suì-Fēng still has her childhood bottled up in her personality which makes her prone to easy embarrassment, and its possible the only way to let her heal is to reenact that childhood but instead of Yoruichi leaving instead Yoruichi stays because the reenactment will be played out the way things are now meaning the Visored incident will take place but no banishment will take place or anything and its best to start before she wakes up so she thinks its all a dream (until we explain it to her after the reenactment is over.

Everything is set up and once everything is set up Suì-Fēng wakes up and she notices she looks like she did during the Visored Incident and starts thinking she was just dreaming and begins crying when she believes that her and Yoruichi aren’t dating

In the other room out of ear shot

Yoruichi: Taylor I can’t do this to her, I can’t let her believe that her and me aren’t dating when we are.

Taylor: Then say that you are dating but tell her that you aren’t getting intimate until she is older, I know a couple who did that because of a 4 year age gap between them, one was 14 and the other was already 18 and they were dating for 4 years before they finally had sex though they got engaged before hand.

Yoruichi: But she isn’t a child.

Taylor: You do realize she doesn’t know that, she thinks she is as old as she was when you left for the World of the Living with Kisuke, Tessai, Shinji, Kensei, Love, Rose, Lisa, Hachi and Hiyori, and its best to keep her thinking that way until she can recover from you leaving her behind back then because until she recovers she will remain extremely weak to embarrassment.

Yoruichi: Fine but, Kisuke and the others should be here in their positions at the time as well, but that just leaves Yamamoto since he is dead.

Taylor: That is the problem I will have to for turns of the reenaction make it seem like he is on extended leave with his Lieutenant Chōjirō who he got married with and asked me from the future to fill in for him since he doesn’t intend to return for quite a while.

Yoruichi: Clever use of using current events like you being Head Captain and use it in the reenaction without it seeming off also how’d you know that Yamamoto and Chōjirō got married around this time?

Taylor: I looked into the history of the Soul Society for accurate details on this period of time.

Yoruichi: Very resourceful off you.

Just then Suì-Fēng exited the room and began making way for Yoruichi’s room

Taylor: I think you better get there before her.

Yoruichi: On it!

Taylor goes to Squad 1′s barracks with Ichigo since he was ‘teleported’ from the future to for the reenactment

Yoruichi: What is taking, Suì-Fēng, so long?

Just then the door swung opened to see Suì-Fēng standing there

Suì-Fēng: Lady Yoruichi?

Yoruichi: What’s the matter, dear?

Suì-Fēng: Wait so, that part wasn’t a dream and we are dating?

Yoruichi: What dream? And yes we are dating.

Suì-Fēng: Well, the year was 2023,

This line isn’t from the story but just a disclaimer, that I have shifted the timeline a bit to make it so my OC of myself (doesn’t have the same life as me since unlike me he isn’t single) can actually be 23 which is my current age, so despite Bleach’s present day timeline taking place in 2001, 2003 and 2013 and then the recent Hell chapter being 2015, I have shifted the time line and made it seem like those dates were actually, 2011, 2013, 2022 (time wise for ages of OCs and such)/2023 (year wise (for ages of Bleach Characters) and 2024 (time wise for ages of OCs and such)/2025 (year wise (for ages of Bleach Characters), and as a result, Ichigo and all his friends weren’t born during their normal years so Ichigo wasn’t 15 in 2001 but younger and was actually 15 in 2011 so right now Ichigo is in fact 27 in the storyline but the year isn’t 2013 and that also means the first Quincy war took place 1010 years before the events of the second one in this timeline but beyond that everything else has shifted to fit the timeline like the Visored Incident taking place in 1911 instead of 1901 which means that Kisuke became Squad 12 captain in 1901 instead of 1891. Now back to the story before Suì-Fēng attacks me for interrupting her.

Suì-Fēng (continued from before): I know that sounds crazy since the year is only 1911.

Yoruichi: Was the Head Captain at the time, a guy named Taylor Manshanden with his lieutenant being an Ichigo Kurosaki?

Suì-Fēng: Why yes Lady Yoruichi but how’d you know?
