Reblog if you can’t escape the Good Omens tags whenever you post anything on Tumblr. Even if it isn’t at all Good Omens related.😂
(Though as a Good Omens fan, I can’t help but feel proud that Good Omens is just taking over Tumblr)
I hope @neil-gaiman is proud of what he has accomplished on social media. This angel and demon are slowly taking over the world.

Awhile ago @ouidamforeman made this post:
Tumblr media
This shot through my brain like a chain of firecrackers, so, without derailing the original post, I have some THOUGHTS to add about why this concept is not only hilarious (because it is), but also...
It. It kind of fucks. Severely.
And in a delightfully Pratchett-y way, I'd dare to suggest.
I'll explain:
As inferred above, both Crowley AND Aziraphale have canonical Biblical counterparts. Not by name, no, but by function.
Crowley, of course, is the serpent of Eden.
(note on the serpent of Eden: In Genesis 3:1-15, at least, the serpent is not identified as anything other than a serpent, albeit one that can talk. Later, it will be variously interpreted as a traitorous agent of Hell, as a demon, as a guise of Satan himself, etc. In Good Omens --as a slinky ginger who walks funny)
Lesser known, at least so far as I can tell, is the flaming sword. It, too, appears in Genesis 3, in the very last line:
"So he drove out the man; and placed at the east of the garden of Eden Cherubims, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to keep the way of the tree of life." --Genesis 3:24, KJV
Thanks to translation ambiguity, there is some debate concerning the nature of the flaming sword --is it a divine weapon given unto one of the Cherubim (if so, why only one)? Or is it an independent entity, which takes the form of a sword (as other angelic beings take the form of wheels and such)? For our purposes, I don't think the distinction matters. The guard at the gate of Eden, whether an angel wielding the sword or an angel who IS the sword, is Aziraphale.
(note on the flaming sword: in some traditions --Eastern Orthodox, for example-- it is held that upon Christ's death and resurrection, the flaming sword gave up it's post and vanished from Eden for good. By these sensibilities, the removal of the sword signifies the redemption and salvation of man.
...Put a pin in that. We're coming back to it.)
So, we have our pair. The Serpent and the Sword, introduced at the beginning and the end (ha) of the very same chapter of Genesis.
But here's the important bit, the bit that's not immediately obvious, the bit that nonetheless encapsulates one of the central themes, if not THE central theme, of Good Omens:
The Sword was never intended to guard Eden while Adam and Eve were still in it.
Do you understand?
The Sword's function was never to protect them. It doesn't even appear until after they've already fallen. No... it was to usher Adam and Eve from the garden, and then keep them out. It was a threat. It was a punishment.
The flaming sword was given to be used against them.
So. Again. We have our pair. The Serpent and the Sword: the inception and the consequence of original sin, personified. They are the one-two punch that launches mankind from paradise, after Hell lures it to destruction and Heaven condemns it for being destroyed. Which is to say that despite being, supposedly, hereditary enemies on two different sides of a celestial cold war, they are actually unified by one purpose, one pivotal role to play in the Divine Plan: completely fucking humanity over.
That's how it's supposed to go. It is written.
...But, in Good Omens, they're not just the Serpent and the Sword.
They're Crowley and Aziraphale.
(author begins to go insane from emotion under the cut)
In Good Omens, humanity is handed it's salvation (pin!) scarcely half an hour after losing it. Instead of looming over God's empty garden, the sword protects a very sad, very scared and very pregnant girl. And no, not because a blameless martyr suffered and died for the privilege, either.
It was just that she'd had such a bad day. And there were vicious animals out there. And Aziraphale worried she would be cold.
...I need to impress upon you how much this is NOT just a matter of being careless with company property. With this one act of kindness, Aziraphale is undermining the whole entire POINT of the expulsion from Eden. God Herself confronts him about it, and he lies. To God.
And the Serpent--
(Crowley, that is, who wonders what's so bad about knowing the difference between good and evil anyway; who thinks that maybe he did a GOOD thing when he tempted Eve with the apple; who objects that God is over-reacting to a first offense; who knows what it is to fall but not what it is to be comforted after the fact...)
--just goes ahead and falls in love with him about it.
As for Crowley --I barely need to explain him, right? People have been making the 'didn't the serpent actually do us a solid?' argument for centuries. But if I'm going to quote one of them, it may as well be the one Neil Gaiman wrote ficlet about:
"If the account given in Genesis is really true, ought we not, after all, to thank this serpent? He was the first schoolmaster, the first advocate of learning, the first enemy of ignorance, the first to whisper in human ears the sacred word liberty, the creator of ambition, the author of modesty, of inquiry, of doubt, of investigation, of progress and of civilization." --Robert G. Ingersoll
The first to ask questions.
Even beyond flattering literary interpretation, we know that Crowley is, so often, discreetly running damage control on the machinations of Heaven and Hell. When he can get away with it. Occasionally, when he can't (1827).
And Aziraphale loves him for it, too. Loves him back.
And so this romance plays out over millennia, where they fall in love with each other but also the world, because of each other and because of the world. But it begins in Eden. Where, instead of acting as the first Earthly example of Divine/Diabolical collusion and callousness--
(other examples --the flood; the bet with Satan; the back channels; the exchange of Holy Water and Hellfire; and on and on...)
--they refuse. Without even necessarily knowing they're doing it, they just refuse. Refuse to trivialize human life, and refuse to hate each other.
To write a story about the Serpent and the Sword falling in love is to write a story about transgression.
Not just in the sense that they are a demon and an angel, and it's ~forbidden. That's part of it, yeah, but the greater part of it is that they are THIS demon and angel, in particular. From The Real Bible's Book of Genesis, in the chapter where man falls.
It's the sort of thing you write and laugh. And then you look at it. And you think. And then you frown, and you sit up a little straighter. And you think.
And then you keep writing.
And what emerges hits you like a goddamn truck.
(...A lot of Pratchett reads that way. I believe Gaiman when he says Pratchett would have been happy with the romance, by the way. I really really do).
It's a story about transgression, about love as transgression. They break the rules by loving each other, by loving creation, and by rejecting the hatred and hypocrisy that would have triangulated them as a unified blow against humanity, before humanity had even really got started. And yeah, hell, it's a queer romance too, just to really drive the point home (oh, that!!! THAT!!!)
...I could spend a long time wildly gesturing at this and never be satisfied. Instead of watching me do that (I'll spare you), please look at this gif:
Tumblr media
I love this shot so much.
Look at Eve and Crowley moving, at the same time in the same direction, towards their respective wielders of the flaming sword. Adam reaches out and takes her hand; Aziraphale reaches out and covers him with a wing.
You know what a shot like that establishes? Likeness. Commonality. Kinship.
"Our side" was never just Crowley and Aziraphale. Crowley says as much at the end of season 1 ("--all of us against all of them."). From the beginning, "our side" was Crowley, Aziraphale, and every single human being. Lately that's around 8 billion, but once upon a time it was just two other people. Another couple. The primeval mother and father.
But Adam and Eve die, eventually. Humanity grows without them. It's Crowley and Aziraphale who remain, and who protect it. Who...oversee it's upbringing.
Godfathers. Sort of.

Crowley Wings (Cosplay Help)
I am planning on going as a femme Crowley to a cosplay convention in my town, and I am hoping to make Crowley’s wings as well. I am wondering if anybody has suggestions on making them, as I am planning on trying to make flexible and lightweight wings that can be moved along with my wrists.
If anybody has any suggestions on how to do this, or have done it before, please let me know! I would really enjoy the help! Thank you!

The sheer amount of guilt Aziraphale experiences is utterly tragic. But what's interesting is he rarely feels guilt for the things humans usually feel guilt for - indulging in food, wine, books, comfort (which is marvelously subversive because it shows none of these things are actually worthy of guilt but, in fact, what make existence worthwhile).
No, he only truly feels guilt when he does the Right Thing.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Or when he realizes too late what the Right Thing is.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
All of his guilt is attached to things that are, in fact, Good and Right, but in opposition to the black-and-white doctrine of Heaven.
Which makes the guilt he is so clearly experiencing here:
Tumblr media
hit like a goddamn freight train.
Because loving Crowley is Good and Right.

I HAD A THOUGHT ABOUT CROWLEY IN EDEN.
Did he FORESHADOW S2’S ENDING?
Tumblr media
AM I INSANE OR DOES THIS SOUND LIKE THE ENDING OF SEASON 2?
Aziraphale did the bad thing, and Crowley did the good thing. Yet both ended up getting it wrong.
Aziraphale choosing Heaven because he believes that maybe he can change it if he is in charge despite them treating him like trash? It could be seen as a bad thing.
Crowley finally choosing to love Aziraphale openly despite their origins? That could be a good thing.
But imagine…..BOTH WERE WRONG. Mostly in the way they went about it, therefore making neither side “RIGHT”.
Aziraphale wanted to change Heaven but it came with the idea of reinstatement of Crowley’s angelic status. That's what made Aziraphale’s choice WRONG. He shouldn't have even suggested to Crowley that he could become an angel again as he of all people knows that Crowley was kicked out of Heaven, so why would he want to go back to a place that showed him that he wasn’t good enough?
Crowley wanted to just love Aziraphale and run away from it all, but the way he showed Aziraphale and the timing was painful. He put Aziraphale in an awful position as he made a last-ditch attempt to possibly tempt him into staying. Would Aziraphale feel love from that? Or would he feel desperation and anger? He is now caught in a whirlwind of emotions he had never felt before. So Crowley wasn't RIGHT either.
However Aziraphale does hint at something.
“It's ineffable.”
Even if both weren't exactly right, there is a sense of ineffability to it all. That single moment triggered emotions that were simply too great to express or even describe in Aziraphale and Crowley.
Millions of years of repression just unraveled in seconds and they are both going to have to face the truth. There is no way to go back to pretending.
They can only find a way forward by communicating what those emotions are and what they are actually thinking about to the other. Only then can it be made RIGHT.

Oh, this is so beautiful!!! I'm flattered! I would love to see more famous paintings ft. Crowley’s deuteranopia!
You are doing the Lord’s work! (or Satan’s, depending on which character you ask)
Crowley Can See Stars (Part 2)
I am furthering the idea of Crowley’s vision and have a headcanon I am in LOVE WITH and that he is partially colorblind due to his snake eyes, and has deuteranopia. He has two cones in his eyes that are able to define primary colors. This would be unlike a human, who has three functioning cones in their eyes allowing them to see THREE. Red, Green, and Blue.
Crowley’s color-blindness would make his vision sensitive to the colors Blue and Yellow. He would possess an insensitivity to green light, therefore making it very difficult for Crowley to differentiate greens, reds, and yellows.
Example:
Tumblr media
The top would be what Crowley would see as an Angel. The bottom would be what Crowley sees in the present with his snake eyes. Browns, yellows, and blues would be his spectrum when it comes to colors.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
He would pretty much see Aziraphale in full color, as he dresses in beige clothes, has very light hair, and blue eyes. Crowley would in fact, see WHITE in the rainbow. I personally love how nebulae look in Crowley’s eyes as a snake. The stars are still visible to him, and even being colorblind, the stars are quite beautiful.
This couples in with my headcanon of Azi having star shaped pupils.
I would honestly LOVE to see fanart of Crowley with his color blindness. Him believing he has curly brown hair, and yellowish eyes which are around the same shade. Aziraphale having the prettiest periwinkle eyes to him and almost blinding white hair. (Pls credit me for the idea if you do decide to draw this❤️✨)
(I plan on writing a fanfic about this very topic so if any of you do write fanfiction and would be interested in this, let me know. Crowley would see the stars as a pretty periwinkle shade and believe that they are just slightly purple-ish. Which I think is precious.🐍💫)

I figured out recently they hid something in S1 and remembered my post of him booping Crowley’s nose in his human form.
Tumblr media
Congrats. Aziraphale mimes it here in S1, as they can’t outwardly show affection due to being watched. Still managed to mime a little “boop” with the coin.

Aziraphale’s Hand Motions Theory
Tumblr media
Seems like nothing, right? But watch closely. It seems like he is making a bit of a motion with his hands.
Tumblr media
Time Out.
Also when Crowley leaves he looks out the window SEVEN times.
“You Know How God Likes Sevens.”
Angel Number 7 Meaning:
“Don’t forget to treat your companion with kindness and consideration if you want your relationship to last a long time and be enjoyable for both of you.
Be upfront and transparent in the expression of your feelings and emotions. No matter what trials and tribulations come your way, there is always hope for a happy ending if you work together as a team.”

Why I Fear My Spirituality and Gifts
I grew up with a very different view of me. I never even thought I would be questioning my sexuality, my gender identity. But here I am.
It is something that seems like a curse as people will tell you “either you’re a boy or a girl. Choose one.” So my discovery of HATING being called “she/her” and that I can’t touch pink as i will inwardly shiver out of hate towards it was MIND BOGGLING. To the point where I would be taken aback by what I would says may sometimes. For example:
“Don’t remind me that I’m female.”
So I am no longer in the binary boxes of society.
Now I’m also the one girl (out of three sisters) that has traits from my dad’s side, not my mom’s. I noticed that I was drawn to spirituality. And then I grew certain talents that I would never have thought would happen.
It started as learning I was an empath. I’ve taken on other’s emotions.
Then crystals and tarot. Lastly, one literally no one believes, I hear and communicate with my spirit guides. I have mediumship and have heard voices from people in my family that have passed away.
I can feel energies. And have even had future events predicted by my guides. They can tell me what tarot deck they want to use, how they want to communicate.
My own friend telling me she doesn’t believe in energies was like a kick in the stomach. Everyone believes I’m lying or it’s paranormal and they deny it because they can’t hear it themselves or explain it.
This is something I love, but do have to live with repercussions of. Especially, when the Bible tells you that you are going to go to Hell because of it.

Aziraphale and Crowley WILL BE OKAY
OKAY. This needs to be said. Both of these characters have certain tendencies and it is shown in Season 2. This makes me think that everything was painted as being much worse than it actually is.
Crowley tends to run away and distance himself when faced with a problem he can’t control or solve. He does this when faced with the whole Gabriel issue.
His first instinct is to seriously take him to a place far away from the bookshop, so he is nowhere near the bookshop and him. Notice how Aziraphale seems to be extremely confused.
Because he thinks DIFFERENTLY from Crowley.
Aziraphale was created to be a guardian. To protect things. The OPPOSITE of Crowley. His first thought is to take care of him because he is basically helpless.
They have been together for over 6000 years, and they aren’t beings who hold grudges towards the other. Do they get angry and storm away? Yes. However it fades over time.
Do they come running to the other when in DANGER? Absolutely. No matter what terms they are on in the moment. Crowley would NEVER say he wouldn’t protect Aziraphale when he needs help.
SO, I dare to say there is a bit of anger towards the other but they are going to get over it. Crowley cannot get rid of his love for Aziraphale in days. It’s ingrained in him.
Same with Aziraphale. In the final 15, after their final words to each other, Aziraphale softly says “No.” as Crowley storms out of the bookshop. He looks out of the window multiple times at Crowley, hoping he’ll come back.
There is still love for the other. Mutual, unconditional love. Crowley and Aziraphale share a look before he steps into the elevator. It isn’t an angry look. He is communicating something non verbally. It almost seems like they are saying “I’m here if you need me.”
Lastly. THAT SMILE IN THE ELEVATOR. Let’s take a few quotes that imply that he is LYING and Heaven is about to go to HELL.
C: “Aziraphale is unpredictable…..”
M: “So predictable….”
C: “You’re an Angel who goes along with Heaven as far as he can.”
A: “I said I would protect you, and I will.”
Heaven always sells Aziraphale short when it comes to intelligence. However, he does state that he comes up with his own plans, but lets Crowley rescue him because it makes him happy.
So Aziraphale can come up with his own plans, is an unpredictable Angel, who simply plays along. Until he no longer will.
He is a guardian and is built to protect. He is going to protect what he loves most and just like the demons stormed the bookshop, is not backing down.
He has a history of not being one to back down and be intimidated easily. No matter the odds.
This is why Crowley and him will be okay, besides most things are alright in the end. Crowley of all people has to know how badly the Metatron just screwed himself over as well.
Even if his goal was to seperate them. What happens when they reunite again?
