Josephine
Josephine is the epitome of the word proper. She knows what the rules are, when to speak and knows her place. Jo was raised in a poor home with her twin brother Charlie. Charlie was naturally-being her twin-Jo’s favourite sibling. They looked out for each other and barely knew their siblings due to the age gap and the amount of work their siblings had to do. In fact, one of their siblings had run away from home, taking whatever silver pieces they could find with them. Their father had been so heartbroken that he died of a heart attack; leaving behind a fifteen year old girl, a twelve year old boy, an infant and a pair of ten year old twins with a furious mother. Josephine’s mother started making plans to leave England to live with her sister, and started selling their children one by one to fund her trip. Where their siblings were sold to? They didn’t know, but they were fortunate enough to have been sold together.
Although their mother had sold them off to a stranger for their own selfish gain, Josephine couldn’t be bitter. She was too fortunate that she was still with her brother. That they could continue taking turns looking after each other; she didn’t mind having Charlie and only Charlie. Whenever Charlie cursed their fortune she comforted him with “That’s all in the past now Charlie, at least we have each other.” Of course it was naïve to think that they wouldn’t be separated. Their Master had wanted to sell Charlie to a farmer and Josephine wouldn’t have it. Her temper had gotten the better of her and both of them had paid the price.
So they were out on the streets with nothing to eat when they met Viscount Viktor. He came to them with a proposition that they couldn’t refuse and Josephine had agreed immediately, wanting to right her wrongs.

Note
I saw Chessa alone with the prince earlier, they seemed rather close.
((CHALLENGE ACCEPTED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!))
Charlie swallowed hard. So he wasn’t the only one who noticed that. He didn’t want to put Chessa in the place to be subject of gossip. That wouldn’t be fair, beside a fondness for a prince was much better than be close to a servant.
"I really haven’t noticed." He stuttered, trying to sound confident and careless. "It don’t think it was anything…" he formed a wonky smirk on his face.

I hope you all had a fabulous holiday and that the new year is treating you right. New chapters are going to be updated more frequently now. Thanks so much for following and sharing with your friends.
-Chloe Anais
Viktor Rendall was born with a very special gift. He could heal someone of any disease, and make them fatally ill on a whim.  You would think that because the village he lived in was plagued with disease, he would be cherished by the villagers. “How ignorant; people don’t take kindly to things that are different.” is how Viktor copes with the prejudice that he’d suffered. When he first demonstrated his talents he was a young boy, and the villagers responded by treating him like devil spawn. “Witchcraft!” they accused, and Viktor rapidly became an outcast.
Viktor was kicked out of his village and left to fend for himself at the age of twelve. Soul tainted with hate and bitterness, he vowed that he would make the world treat people like him with reverence and admiration; for that is what they deserve.  So he began his steady rise to the top at the age of eighteen, healing nobleman and eventually royalty.  On his way to the top he met a man a few years younger than he; Daniel. Daniel too had been persecuted for his gift, and Viktor took an instant liking to him. They both believed that people like them should be treated with respect above all else. So together, they continued to rise to the top.
With Daniel’s ability to see the truth, it was easy to become advisors to royalty and warn them of the traitors that were plotting against them.  Of course such information was very valuable, so soon, they were both awarded the position of Viscount. But they were both young when they started out, and soon ideals began to change. When Viktor brought home a newborn Chessa he simply told Daniel that he’d adopted the child; but Daniel knew the truth, and because he knew that truth, Viktor knew that he had to get rid of him. So Daniel got sick, he was sick for about a year before he finally succumbed to the disease.
Viktor feels a twinge of regret whenever he thinks about Daniel, but he brushes off the feeling with “It was for the greater good.”

Who is Valencia Hawker? To the public, she is elegant, enchanting and mysterious. To Viktor, she is a prized jewel, secretly his favourite child. They say she can make an entire room float just by walking in, quite literally. Taught by only the best of the best, Valencia has been molded into a fine young woman, level headed and polite. Her black hair and emerald eyes casts an almost raven like appearance on her face. Mystical and Cold.
She is more then just a pretty face. She is very intelligent, dislikes large crowds and is rather introverted.  She spends her days in the Library, reading or spending time in the palace gardens with her dear companion and sister, Chessa.
Taken as toddler, she doesn’t quite remember her life before The Palace, but she recalls another time. Dreams plague her mind, dreams of her past. Chessa is the only one Valencia confides in regarding these dreams. Despite the dreams and hazy recollections, can’t question Father Rendall and all that he has given her, giving her more than enough reason to fear the unknown.

Happy New Year!
Happy New Year from Alexa!
Because my co-writer and I are not in the same country at the moment- we usually are- it is New Year's Eve for me. So I just wanted to send out my wishes and love to our readers, future readers, tumblr and the rest of the internet. Have a great 2014.
Do things you've never done before. Do things you love. Try new things that you will probably hate but still try them. Second guess everything in existence and then realize that that nothing makes sense and logic was not a thing to begin with. Watch movies you you would never watch, try foods that disgust you, and don't think everything through. There will be hard times and scary times, but remember there can't be light without darkness- the only quotable thing my brother has ever said. Just hang on tight and just don't expect anything. Go through phases of fashion, fandoms, whatever. Just remember; don't be ashamed of the past.
The point is, this time last year I had no idea that I would be writing again and that I would be roleplaying, but here I am.
Okay this greetings wasn't meant to be so long but I really got into it. Anyway have a great 2014 and have fun.
Thanks for sticking by us and being awesome.
Headcannons are coming soon.
Much Love,
ALEXA

Straining
Josephine closed the door behind her as she entered the viscount’s office, anger apparent on her features. She had just put a very sad Chessa to bed; obviously, he had taken it too far.
“A rake? Really?” She scoffed, unimpressed.
"What else would I have called him?" Viktor raised his eyebrow, as he countered her remark. His usual composure was coming back to him. He realized that he’d been a little too forceful with Chessa-he’d make up for it later-but it was for the best. "So I’m assuming she came to you?"
“In tears.” She specified, taking a seat. “Don’t you feel anything from doing that?” Josephine sighed as she rested her hand on her forehead.
"I do, but it is for the best. You and I both know that." Viktor let out a heavy sigh. He really did feel terrible his heart felt heavy, and he hoped to find a way to make things right with his daughter. "What I must do, I do for love." He stated.
This servant girl was not used to ignoring her own morals. It wasn’t hard; she just had to remember that it was for the better-and that she was being paid.
Josephine sent Viktor a quick look at his musings; unable to comprehend how you could hurt someone dear to you for love.
“Well, I hate to say it, but I think it worked. And because of that, you won’t be seeing your daughter for the rest of the day.”
He poured himself a drink. “How else was she to learn, Josephine? And even if there was a better way, it is too late now. ” It seemed like drinking was becoming the Viscount’s resort. “I know it looks as if I am horrible but I do it for love. Death is imminent for everybody- including myself. If I were to pass away, I would want the best security for my family. Wouldn’t you wish for the same?”
"I would wish for their happiness." She retorted stubbornly.
"But suffering the winters in the streets and selling yourself just for a dime, does not bring happiness.” He said snapped. "Unless you enjoy that?"
Jo scoffed as she sent Viktor a disdainful glare. “But to lie to her like that, to taint my brother’s person to ‘break her down’ is wrong.”
"Yes, but you have no business in that. Remember your place. Do not test me at this moment."
“You made it my business as soon as you threatened my brother in an effort to get my help on this.” Jo tried hard to keep her temper reigned in. “So don’t you dare tell me that I cannot judge and inquire about your methods when you are showing me a side of yourself that you like to hide.”
"Leave my office." He growled, fed up with her sentimental nonsense. Viktor already knew that he’d caused some damage, which was the point.
Josephine took a few steps back, curtsying. “I hope you drink yourself into a stupor.” She muttered too quietly for him to hear as she left the office.
Almost as soon as she left the office, she came to her senses. She had just challenged her own master, questioned his authority. What had she done? She’d forgotten her place and had spoken out of turn! Jo had just done everything she had made sure not to do! She wanted to turn around and beg for forgiveness, but she’d just be making a fool out of herself. The only way to compensate for her actions was through carrying out the viscount’s orders.

Reprimand
Chessa‘s curls bounced as she made her way towards the master staircase. It was around lunchtime and Chessa was a wee bit peckish. When she got to the top of the railing Chessa caught a glimpse of a familiar figure being greeted by Luka.
She gaped, Ezra? What in the world was lord Smitholm doing here? Her father probably had something to do with this. Scratch that, she knew he had something to do with this. Chessa almost retreated back up the stairs, but Ezra saw her and was already making his way over.
"Lady Chessa." He greeted her with a fluid kiss to her hand. His pride had been restored to its full glory it seemed.
Chessa fought hard not to pull away and make a face.
“Lord Smitholm! W-what are you doing here?”
“Your father invited me over. He wished to make amends after the last time we met.” He coughed awkwardly towards the end, another trick to cover up his embarrassment. “I heard about the incident in the forest. Are you alright my dear?”
Chessa blinked before smiling sweetly. “I’m fine, thank you for asking Lord Smitholm.”
"That’s good. I am well." he added, how rude that she didn’t ask herself. He looked to Luka who was watching the whole exchange with interest, and looked back at the red head. “Would it be appropriate if I joined you for lunch?"
"I’ll meet you there." She said sweetly. "I should go tell father you’re here. I’m sure he’ll be thrilled." Chessa left before Ezra could answer, why didn’t her father warn her about him?
She barged into her father’s office like she’d done a few days ago, but with a lot more momentum.
“Father, why is Ezra here?” Chessa asked as she stood over his desk.
"Chessa, you really need to learn how to knock." Viktor sighed in exasperation. So Chessa and Ezra had reunited; it seemed that it didn’t go as smoothly as he’d thought. "Ezra is here because he wished to reconcile after the incident. Please be responsible and try to understand. It’s for the best."
Chessa’s eyes narrowed. “To what extent do you wish for us to reconcile?”
He paused. How could he say that he wanted this courtship to continue without igniting her fury?
“Well, at least to the extent of forgiveness. Perhaps even to the extent of a courtship. “
Chessa shook her head, not liking what her father was saying.
“I told you I wasn’t ready.”
"Yes, but I am your father. I know what is best for you in these circumstances." Viktor said sternly. "I’m worried that Charge of yours has been getting foolish ideas in your head.”
Chessa’s breath caught in her throat. What about Charlie? Did her father know? He couldn’t they’d been careful…hadn’t they?
The red head cleared her throat slightly as she watched her fingertips trace invisible drawings on the wood of the desk. “I don’t know what you mean.”
"You know exactly what I mean. That boy, that street rat, has wormed his way into your heart with lies. And you were weak enough to believe those lies.” Chessa’s cheeks heated as she opened her mouth to say something. "Don’t try denying it my dear. I saw you in the garden that night, I know."
Chessa gasped, her hands over her mouth; embarrassed and ashamed that her father had found out that way.
“We-we didn’t do anything I swear it. Charlie would never…” she trailed off, there was no way of justifying herself to her father. “You have to understand.” Chessa begged.
"Oh I understand. Everything I taught you, everything you know to be the truth, you showed a blatant disregard for it when you chose to allow that boy to taint you!" Viktor yelled. "The fact that you did not allow this boy to bed you shows that you still have some common sense, but it does not make you innocent. You have disobeyed me Chessa, and now I am merely protecting you from the consequences of your frivolous decisions."
“No, you don’t understand. I don’t need you to protect me from Charlie! He’s different…I-I love him.”
Chessa didn’t look at her father; she knew that she was treading dangerous waters. But she had to make him understand, she didn’t want to be with Ezra, she wanted to be with Charlie. She hadn’t meant to make her father so angry.
Viktor stood from his chair, causing it to squeal loudly in protest. “Chessa Markings, my own daughter, seduced by a commoner! You know nothing of love. You don’t know of romance. Get a grip! ” he barked. “I am your father; I know what is best for you. Charlie is scum from the streets, a rake, you probably aren’t the first girl he’s fooled!”
Chessa cheeks flushed with anger. “Stop it! Stop saying those things, you don’t know him like I do. I felt it! He loves me too!”
“Look at you.” He said in a hushed tone as he moved around the desk to stand in front of her. He took her chin between his thumb and index finger. “Look at what he’s done to you. You’ve lost all sense of reason! I should have locked you up when I had the chance.”
Chessa roughly pulled herself out of her father’s grip.
“I was already locked up.” She seethed. “Charlie is the best thing that’s ever happened to me!”
Viktor slapped her, so hard that her head snapped to the side and she stumbled back a little. Chessa looked up at him, eyes wide as she brought her hand up to her left cheek.
“You silly, ungrateful little girl.” Viktor hissed, eyes dark as he regarded his speechless daughter. “Who brought you in? Who protected you from the people who want to hurt you the most? Who worked day and night to insure that you could walk in a public street without being called a witch?”
Chessa sniffed, hand still on her stinging cheek that was now wet with tears.
“You did.” She whispered obediently.
Viktor took a breath.
"Now, Ezra should be your future. He is kind and will never leave your side. You should be thankful that a man of his stature has such interest in you. Now whether you give up on that boy or not, you are to marry Ezra. And that is final!" He said sternly, conveying that he truly wouldn’t budge.
“Please father.” She begged weakly. “Please don’t do this.” She was trembling now, her tears showing how desperate she was.
Viktor lowered his voice and spoke softly to his daughter. “Please, Chessa. I do this because I love you. Please understand my dear.” He gently put his hand on her shoulder, but she pulled away at his touch. “I only want the best for you.”
Chessa didn’t want to understand, she was upset with him for forcing her into something that would affect her forever. And yet, when she remembered all the sacrifices her father had done for her there was a tiny bit of Chessa that longed to please him. Was giving up on Charlie equivalent to everything Viktor had done for her?
How was she going to live without Charlie?
Chessa sobbed as she took a step away from her father and she ran out of his office before he could stop her. Chessa was running down the hall when she came across Josephine who brought her into her arms for comfort and inquired what was wrong. In the state she was in, any comfort would do.
Jo felt a chill run down her spine at what she heard; so the viscount was going through with it.
“He’s right you know.” Jo said softly to the distressed girl in his arms. They were sitting on the bed of an empty guestroom, taking advantage of the privacy. “Although I wish your father didn’t put it in those words…a future with Charlie is no good for you.” Chessa sniffed as she pulled away, her brows knitting in confusion. “Chessa, you weren’t raised to be a commoners wife. You can’t cook, or clean. You’d be useless to him.”
“I could learn.” Chessa said hesitantly.
And he’d have to teach you, you’ll be useless and a burden. Then he’d look for a better wife and by that time, you’d be ruined.”
“Charlie wouldn’t-”
“All men are the same Chessa, they use women for their own means and ends. I hate to tell you this, but Charlie is the same.”
Chessa shook her head. “You’re wrong.”
“Has he said that he loves you?”
Chessa stopped trying to recall a time that the words had been said out loud.
“No but-”
“He cares about you? Miss Markings, that’s what all men say to women they aren’t serious about. It isn’t the first time Charlie has said that to a woman.” Jo let it sink in as she kept Chessa’s gaze. “You were an easy target for him, desirable too. Your loneliness is apparent you know, and Charlie knows he’s good company.”
“Y-you mean. He didn’t, he doesn’t…”she struggled with her words.
“No, he doesn’t love you. And he doesn’t want to be with you. Your body is all that he wants.”
“He lied to me.” She sobbed.
Josephine almost winced; the girl sounded absolutely miserable, and it was partially her fault.
“I’m sorry.” Jo whispered, but as she reached out Chessa stood before she could comfort her further.
“Please I, I want to go to bed.” Chessa whispered.
“But Miss Markings, it’s tea time.” Jo felt sick, lying about Charlie and hurting Chessa like this wasn’t right.
“Please.” Chessa whispered, choosing to give up for the day.
Jo nodded, getting up and escorting Chessa to her room. She had to remember the benefits in the long run, the viscount would be pleased, her brother safe, and the girl, well off with a wealthy suitor.
