Everyone dodges around whumpee like their lives depend on it. Everything they say is treated like an order and most steer clear when they can. 

It’s not because they’re scared of them.

-But because they’re scared of caretaker.

When someone dies, the afterlife they go to is determined by WHERE they died. Dying in Scandinavia sends the soul to Valhalla or Hel, but dying in Greece lands them in Hades, and so on. You have just died in the middle of the Pacific Ocean.

Yep one of the best pieces of advice I got was to just write. After the first draft is finished you can go back and edit, but you have to finish.

Your writing is good enough. Stop doubting yourself. Stop criticizing yourself. You are a good writer. Yes, you can always improve your craft, but that doesn't mean that your writing sucks.

Birthday Cake Whump

It's my birthday today, so why not.

(Content warning: Food poisoning, burning, suffocation, pet whump, conditioned whumpee, force feeding)

Whumper bakes/buys Whumpee a special birthday cake and just as they blow the candles out, Whumper shoves their face in and holds it there. Whumpee can't breathe.

Whumper purposely puts the wrong candle on Whumpee's cake to make think more time has passed (if Whumpee was 22, Whumper would put 24 or 25 instead).

Whumpee has an allergic reaction to one of the ingredients.

Some pet owners (like my dog) don't know when their pet's birthday is, so they make it the day they adopted them. Whumper chooses Whumpee's kidnapping day as their birthday. Whumpee doesn't remember their birthday, so they don't argue.

Whumpee doesn't trust Whumper's cake not to be poisoned. Whumper straps them down, calls them an ungrateful brat, and shoves it into their mouth.

On the other hand, Whumpee loves that Whumper brought them a cake. But not long after eating, they feel sick and/or tired. They pass out with the fork still in their hand.

No poison, no sedatives, it's homemade, but the catch is Whumpee needs to hold their hand over the candle's flame and let it burn until Whumper says they can stop.

Whumpee gets kidnapped on their birthday. When they wake up, the first thing they see is a cake with the words "Happy Birthday, love" while Whumper stares adoringly at them.

Starved Whumpee gets tooth and stomach damage since Whumper only feeds them cake and sweets. Whumpee begs for something else that isn't sugar and artificial vanilla.

Caretaker wants to do something nice for Whumpee, but they're still conditioned and jumpy. They bake them their favorite flavor of cupcake and don't put a candle on it, worried they would burn themself. They hand it to Whumpee and softly sing for them.

Peak intimacy is that soft spoken “look at me” or “hey” or “what’s wrong” with a chin tilt… I would personally not hesitate to pass out 🫣

May I ask for a prompt of whumpee not being able to control magic?

I have a few:

Their magic could 'act up'. For example, if they're not being careful/concentrating then their magic could take some initiative to cause some chaos.

Alternatively it could be triggered by an artefact/curse/potion/spell/emotional situation which causes unpredictability.

They could fear harming others, so the whumpee isolates themselves.

^ Bonus points if this is a result of accidentally harming someone in the past.

^ Bonus bonus points if the whumpee accidentally harms someone from the present.

Their magic could manifest as a physical thing. It could cause the whumpee pain or discomfort and as it intensifies, it gets harder to keep in check.

The whumpee could seek out experts or remedies to control their outbursts, but this only exacerbates the problem.

The magic's unpredictable nature leads to unintended consequences, complicating the whumpee's life and endangering their goals or relationships.

The whumpee could struggle with feelings of inadequacy and frustration, believing they are a danger to their loved ones.

You walk down the chilly street at night, the lamp posts are casting shadows of bushes and trees along the sidewalk. You hesitate when you see a shadow in the form of a figure, its pressed against a pole and you can tell it’s shaking. You become curious, but you have to get home soon, you’re exhausted and your bed started calling out for you hours ago.

You take a side glance at the person as you walk past, they’re hiding behind the pole cringing while staring up at you fearfully, trembling from the cold. You tilt your head to the side at them with curiosity, they then mimic your gesture the same

Leave them, you’re too tired for this

They need help, offer to take them home

“Caretaker? Whumpee?! Hold on!” Leader ram back to his battered team, searching for a way to save his friends. He pulls aside Teammate, asking if she has the strength to part the water or lift them from the well. She looks dead on her feet, but when the splashing below stops, she somehow draws the strength to push away the water. Caretaker and Whumpee collapse, Caretaker’s breathing weak and gurgled as he tries to turn onto his side, coughing up water, but not enough before he collapses.

Teammate sinks to her knees and tries to control her breathing, the magic taking up more energy than she has.

Leader curses and paces, looking around wildly. There has to be something.

Right?

Whumpee falls into/is thrown into a well. Caretaker jumps after them. Whumpee has hit their head and falling unconscious while Caretaker struggles to keep both of them afloat. The battle continues above them, on the ground. Caretaker can only hope their side wins, and does it quick, because they can't keep swimming forever. Not with now passed out Whumpee in their arms. The walls of the well are slippery, and there isn't enough space to get on their back and float. They're quietly begging Whumpee to wake up as blood runs down their face somewhere from under their hair.

Minutes pass, and Caretaker haven't got enough air in their lungs to yell for help. Their limbs are burning, water's spilling in their mouth. The sounds from above are fading, and Caretaker doesn't know if they're just dying or if the fight is over.

They can only see someone peeking into the well, but can't tell who it is, a friend or an enemy, because they only appear as a dark silhouette against the sun.

Whumpee that used to be so good at their job/role, but now forgets things, struggles to learn new systems, who feels guilt and the gnawing fear of being left behind because oh god, am I useless now?

Whumpee who blows tiny harmless things out of proportion. Teammate showing them again how to use a tool sighs, or sets something down too hard, or doesn’t speak? They hate me, they hate that I can’t do this right.

Unable to tell anyone because why? How spoiled and selfish would they have to be to complain about being a burden? Who would they tell?

They internalize all of it, and just try harder and harder, but the stress of it just makes it worse.

Until Caretaker catches on.
