Right now is probably the worst time to do NaNoWriMo. I’m running a marathon in 11 days, I work two jobs, among other obligations that drain my time and attention. That was all that mattered. I was so awkward and insecure that I took and ran with the first bit of attention that was forced my way. Sometimes grief is tricky. Like all pain it demands to be felt. But unlike most physical pain, there are times when you have no idea when it’s going to hit you. I was doing the dishes and heard a song that a relative had taught me on the guitar when I was little. He passed months ago, but I had felt nothing at the time. When I heard that song, I crumbled.
