Alan Wake 10th Anniversary Celebration Phone Wallpapers
Alan Wake is one of my favourite games of all time, so I wanted to do something to celebrate it’s 10th anniversary this year — especially since our boy Alan will be back as part of Control AWE!
Since the phrase is so iconic to the game, I decided to hand-letter it in the style of fonts I’ve often seen in old horror movie posters. The images I picked as backgrounds were to highlight some of the aspects I loved about the game.
Please like and reblog if you’ll be using them!

Make Good Art - Neil Gaiman
This is one of my favourite quotes of all time, and it’s a piece of advice I try to follow always. So when I first started learning how to hand letter, I knew I definitely wanted to make something with this particular quote.
Artistically, I tried to visually reference three different pieces of stationery (pencils, erasers, and chalk) in terms of my colour choices and font styles. The background effect and style is meant to reference Looney Tunes and a lot of those older black and white movies I grew up watching because I really loved that visual style and effect.
Two things I’m really proud of in terms of this poster is that it’s the fastest thing I’ve ever made in terms of hand-lettering, and it also feels the closest to a personal style and that, really feels like an achievement.

Make An Effort - Tan France
I’ve been trying to stubbornly teach myself hand-lettering for a few months now, and this is the first project I’ve been truly happy with. I drew every single aspect of this myself, and then worked on digitising it as best I could.
I tried to base it on Tan’s aesthetic as much as I could (neat, clean lines, a nice blend of masculine and feminine colours, as well as fonts that feel like a good blend of fancy and classic). I also chose stars for the background because growing up, we’d always get them in school whenever we did something well or right.
One thing I’m happy with is how this phrase is both a directive and a reminder, because I know, at least to me, it’s important that I at least try my best, even if I’m not the most successful.

One of the really cool things about Venom is the character design. I really wanted to try capturing his more monstrous qualities with the sparse or more minimal style I prefer and it proved to be a very fun exercise in shape, colour, and balance. I didn’t expect to make a side profile version of him, but I wanted to try it because a lot of my favourite art of him tends to have him like that.

This is one of my favourite quotes from the new season of Doctor Who. I wanted to make something that both nodded to the Doctor’s relationship with the TARDIS but also Thirteen herself. I love that this set of stripes has become a visual shorthand for her. Also the falling effect is my attempt to reference her first episode, “The Woman Who Fell to Earth.”

I was pretty inspired by Ash Palmisciano and this Matty Barton quote on Emmerdale, so I wanted to make a more typography-inspired poster for it.
I settled on autumn and tree symbology because it felt like a good metaphor for the journey he’s on — as well as his solid dependability and strength.
