My ritual goes like this: I ignore the story for 17 weeks straight. Think about it constantly and create 3 dozen elaborate notes and tiny details that will never appear in the story, but actually write nothing. Then, at 3AM the night after reading other peoples master pieces, I open the document and black out for 6 hours. When I wake up, there’s 10,000 words, 2 plot twists, and a mysterious metaphor about something I can't even bring myself to understand. I have no memory of writing any of it. But it’s done. And somehow, it’s good. Which only reinforces the cycle.

I am a literary raccoon. Thriving in deadline dumpsters.
