If you haven't figured it out by now.., APRIL FOOL!
We'd never done an April Fool's prank before and always figured if we ever did we should go all out with the biggest, most elaborate prank possible! So for one whole day we changed all our social media accounts, our YouTube channel, our personal profiles, created an entire new website, and even went so far as to create fake news stories, announcement videos and REAL merchandise that could be purchased! We wanted to make the most epic April Fool's day EVER! Thank you to those of you who stuck by us though all the craziness, we hope you appreciate the humor and we want to assure you that The Cog is Dead has always been, and WILL ALWAYS BE a Steampunk Band! smile emoticon
We love you all so much, and we had to have a little fun with you today! Thanks to all our fans who appreciate the amount of work and level of detail we strive to put into everything we do! We work hard to create entertainment for you all and hope to continue for many years to come! Cheers!

As an artist there’s only so much that one can do before it all starts to sound and feel pretty much the same.  Steampunk was a great way for us to enter the music scene and gain experience in front of a crowd.  However it’s time for a change. If we don’t change we’ll just be rehashing the same old stuff again and again, and as an artist I could never be truly satisfied or proud of my work if I didn’t love it.  Goodbye steampunk.

FINAL TOUR SHOW 6/6/15
Tumblr media
Since April 14, 2012 The Cog is Dead has been traveling the United States performing everywhere from the tiniest of venues to huge stages at major fandom conventions and festivals.  We've been to some amazing places, shared stages and become friends with some of our steampunk musical heroes, and the most wonderful thing of all, finally had a chance to meet and connect with our amazing fans face-to-face.  We've been a studio band since 2006 but we never realized the impact our music had on our fans lives until we met them in person, and it was the most touching experience ever.  We love our fans so much and can't thank you enough for your continued support and enthusiasm!  Every show we've ever played has created an opportunity to meet another excited fan, or gain a new one.  You all really are the best!                 It's been an amazing 3 years of touring, but we are at a point now where we can't continue with the constant travel and schedule required to be a full-time traveling band.  Bear in mind: we're not ending the band or breaking up - what we're doing is ceasing the regular traveling performances.  We LOVE traveling and performing, but it just comes down to a matter of time.  We all have other projects, commitments and careers outside of the band, and as awesome as these past few years have been for us to finally travel constantly, it's made it nearly impossible for us to keep up with the other aspects of life.                Samantha from Frenchy and the Punk said it well when we were on tour together in 2013.  The two of them travel year-round, which we were amazed at since touring can at times be grueling, and she said that it takes a certain kind of person to be able to live that lifestyle, and that it's not for everyone.  And she's right.                   We live in an interesting age where, unlike in the past, people can gain exposure and fans online.  When I was growing up musicians had to be discovered by constantly traveling, performing and word of mouth.  And I give a LOT of credit to the ones who did that and the ones who still do.  However now we're in an amazing age technologically where musicians can actually connect with their fans, share music, and be professional musicians even if they don't have the circumstances to travel.  It's the reason anyone even knows who we are.  Even though we've met several fans at shows, we can connect with THOUSANDS more online!  That said, we know it's not the same as meeting someone in person.  Not by a long shot.  But what it DOES mean is that even if we can't tour regularly we can still continue writing and releasing new music, making music videos and working on other projects, as well and plenty of other band related things and connect with our fans constantly - while at the same time still being able to lead our normal lives and take care of other necessities.                 We'll definitely miss touring, there's really nothing like it and it's been one of the most incredible and surreal experiences of our lives.  But it's true, "it's not for everyone" and even though we won't be touring anymore, we'll still very likely perform on occasion, and more than anything else, we'll be doing what our fans have always loved from the beginning: making music!                 We're so excited to be getting close to the completion of our third album!  We can't wait to release it for everyone to hear, and we hope as many people as possible can make it to our extremely special final tour show on June 6th - the entire concert will be filmed for our first ever live concert movie!  Don't worry, there's a lot more steampunk musical madness to come in the future! We're so excited to be getting close to the completion of our third album!  We can't wait to release it for everyone to hear, and there's a lot more steampunk musical madness to come in the future!

OK, it took a few days longer than expected to post anything about SPWF, but it was quite the long drive for us and I think we all needed a little time to recover.  So.  Steampunk World's Fair was absolutely amazing!  Once again we got to perform somewhere we previously hadn't been able to attend, and meet new fans as well as run across friendly familiar ones again.     We really enjoyed meeting Valentine Wolf, who play some amazing and beautiful music and melodies, and finally got to witness the awesomeness of The Nathaniel Johnstone Band.  Finally me Eli August, who is very cool.  Had a few chances to chat with David Michael Bennet (The Spine) over the course of the weekend and catch up on what's happened since WWWC in Tucson.  And Steve Negrete did an awesome job on sound for us and the other bands playing the main stage.
One of the highlights of the weekend was getting to reunite with our tour buddies from last summer Frenchy and the Punk and This Way To The Egress.  Friday night we were joined by Scott (FnP) and Saturday we had Taylor (Egress) perform along with us at the end of our sets.  And I really enjoyed rocking with Egress and Cello Mike at their amazing Saturday set.
All in all it was a great weekend and we hope to come back next year.  For now, time to get ready for the next show!

Got home late Sunday night from quite possibly the most amazing steampunk convention ever!  Wild Wild West Con 3 was a truly amazing experience.  It may be their third year, but it was the first for as and we had an absolute blast!  We met so many wonderful people and are so thankful to the fans that came out to see us! This was also our first time meeting/performing with Steam Powered Giraffe and Professor Elemental and they were all awesome.
On a personal note, I've been a huge fan of SPG since I found them on MySpace nearly 6 years ago and have watched them grow from a little troupe of buskers in the park to the steampunk superstars they are today so it was very exciting finally getting to meet them in person.  They were the first steampunk band we really related to musically.  We really love a lot of the bands making steampunk music, but SPG have always just seemed to have similar musical sensibilities and tastes to our own and have always felt like kindred spirits so there's always been a very special place in my heart for them.
This was also SPG's first time really getting to hear our music as well.  And even though there were a few delays prior to the show and we had to cut our set time in half, we still had an AMAZING time performing to an incredible crowd of people!  Our only regret is not getting to play Burn it Down.  Next time, though!
One of the major highlights of the night: as we cleared our gear off the stage at the end of our set Rabbit came up to me in the wings with a big smile and said, "You guys sound so much like us!"  I think I can die now... but I won't.  Got more music to make.  ^_^ Can't wait til next year, we really hope we get to come back!
