Original Sin - some thoughts
Sin and understanding the concept of sin is tough. The Bible states that none of us are good. But many of us forget that God originally created us as good and we are made in His image. Sin came in to the world when humanity learnt about good and evil and I believe that it means that as humans we get to choose how we act and behave.
Humans have a huge capacity to do good. We also have the capacity to do real evil. As Pa Kent said in Superman it’s our actions that make us who we are.
The other aspect of sin people seem to forget is our relationship with God. Sin is about humans wanting to be their own gods in a way, and not choosing God. Which again is a choice. Not choosing God is sinful as per Christian orthodoxy. But, I believe, that doesn’t make a person inherently evil. God is gracious and allows people their own choices. Choices have consequences, evidently. But, it’s still our choice.
The idea of being born inherently evil seems to stem from the belief in Original Sin which is not actually believed by every Christian. This idea that we all inherited the guilt of Adam’s sin, and sure there’s a case for reading that into the biblical text, but I don’t think it was meant to be literal. (And yes, having been raised in a Presbyterian Church, I learned that belief. But I don’t think I thought about it too much.)
I do believe that we live in a Fallen, broken world, and I do believe that sin is a real thing. But, I don’t think humanity is intrinsically evil. We were made in God’s Image, but due to the Fall, we live in a world where evil exists and we have the agency to choose what our actions will be and how they will impact others. And yes, I do believe there are some people who are truly evil. But that’s a choice they make. And not something inherent in them.
I know also there are passages that say that our hearts are inclined toward evil etc, but again that doesn’t explicitly label us as evil, just that our minds are selfish (in ancient texts heart equates to mind) and lean toward self-serving thoughts. The fact is biologically every one of us is born selfish. But that’s a survival instinct. We all want to survive and selfishness ensures that goal.
I know that these thoughts I’m laying out may make some Christians claim that I’m watering down sin and thus weakening the need for Jesus. But, as I said, I believe sin is real. I believe evil is real. And we are in need of a Saviour. After all, even “good” people need rescuing too.
But these are just some thoughts I’ve had since seeing the discourse about Dobson. Take it or leave it.

Oh, Sebastian is going to be in my country. Hot damn

Seb has just over a month to film his appearance in Doomsday.
We don’t know if he’s already completed his filming or not. He’s been traveling around a lot lately, so he could be done.

I have so many thoughts about Superman (2025) and Thunderbolts and just comic book movies in general.
Here’s one.
Marvel films (the live action ones) have never made me want to read Marvel comics. Not in a visceral I MUST READ way.
But watching Superman (2025) has made me really want to dig into DC comics.
I wonder why that is? Is it because it felt like a comic book film straight from page to screen? Almost as if Gunn has gone one step further there would’ve been speech bubbles on screen?
Whereas the Marvel films feel like they’re grounded in the real world and not in the pages of a comic book?
(Granted probably the same reason I didn’t feel compelled to read any comics after watching Man of Steel so this is not really a Marvel v DC thing, it’s complex. After all watching spider-man into the Spiderverse made me want to read Spider-Gwen comicsbut even that is character specific, whereas with Superman I want to dig into all the lore..)
Please explain.

*Holding my smut!logistics head despairingly in my angry little hands*
Ugh.
Okay.
Girls, guys, whomever: I've said it before and I'm going to say it again now, because I've read more logistically implausible fics in the last few days than I dare to count on my grumpy little claws. The writing may be smoking, but if you can't get the logistics of sex right then you are just going to make your readers go, "Eh, what?!"
You cannot deepthroat someone while breathing through your nose. You can't. Unless you have gills. If you're writing smut for fish then by all means continue to have your characters comfortably taking in oxygen whilst choking on a cock. Otherwise, stop it.
Throat-fucking is hot, HOTTT, but again. Breathing is not possible simultaneously. Please. This type of breath-play is sexy. Use it.
Have you ever tried to hollow your cheeks with a cock jammed down between your tonsils? No? That's right: you can't. Your characters are either using their tongue and cheeks or they are using their throat; I guarantee they can't do both at the same time. Also, having a man able to feel the outline of his cock through the cheek of his partner while they are going down on him: only possible if he is JABBING his fingers into his partner's cheek and forcing the flesh between their teeth, or fucking the head of their cock into their partner's cheek-flesh. Either way is really not going to be comfortable for the partner who is doing the work.
Having your characters stop kissing because they can't breathe is fucking stupid. Have you ever kissed a human? You have a NOSE (which in this instance is NOT being blocked by a cock). It is perfectly possible for two humans to mack on one another for hours at a time without having to come up for air. Drawn-out snogging is hot; have you ever kissed someone so much that lube/prep is not even needed? Trust me, it's awesome.
Limbs. LIMBS. Block your smut scene out in your head, for the love of God. I can't count the number of times that a writer has led me to believe that a pairing are facing one another on a bed, only to find in the next sentence that one is actually behind the other up against a wall; or they're laying down; or one is seated and the other standing.
Get your names and pronouns straight (heh heh...), with m/m or f/f fiction it's so easy as the reader to lose track of who is doing what if you're only referring to the characters as him/her. Don't be afraid to use names, it's better to be too clear than not clear enough.
If you don't have the first-hand experience yourself to write about certain sexual experiences then LOOK. IT. UP. I am neither male nor queer, yet I adore m/m explicit fic and I've done my goddamn research; it drives me up the wall when a writer puts their men into a position that does not warrant easy access to the prostate, but then go ahead and try to write the act as if it's as natural as breathing. My dude, if you're making me - a straight female - shake my head at the logistical inaccuracies of one hot man fucking another hot man, then just imagine the fits of hilarity that you're sending an actually gay man into, who attempts to read your work!
I would say I'm sorry for ranting, but I'm not. I've been reading fanfic for a very very long time and it makes my cold, dead heart so happy when writers get it right, and so sad when they get it wrong.
