I LOVE your art!? I just discovered your blog. It came on my feed due to Top Gun but I love all your pieces about planes in general - what started your interest in them?
Thank you so much!! 🥰 That would probably be my dad, he’s supposed to be a retired mechanic by now (good luck getting a mechanic that loves anything that has mechanics to stop fixing things and making them work) but with that comes a deep interest in planes of all kinds. He knows makes, models, history, and I don’t have all that knowledge base—I’ve always been more of the stare at the sky and go, “whoa, and it just does that every time pretty much?” type. So yeah, it’s a lot to do with my dad. The other part is just me being in awe of flight as something we humans have been doing since the early 1900s.
I love drawing mechanical things like cars—all those simple lines are wonderful to me. Planes are not all that different, but still I wanted practice because while I’ve drawn my fair share of cars, I hadn’t ventured into planes all that much. I have a general obsession with the sky (if I’m outside, my eyes are usually looking up haha) and I love drawing it too. So then I created Just Plane Monday where I’d just practice drawing a plane of some kind every Monday. And that was a little over a year ago! It’s been a lot of planes since then, so hopefully I’ve improved at least a tiny bit.
Thank you for such a lovely question! ✈️
