Can I just say how much I appreciate the spelling "grey", and how much I hate the spelling "gray"? Who the fuck knows why ยฏ\_(ใƒ„)_/ยฏ

I just realized how weird it is that I find it weird when Aves eat other Aves, but like, not when reptiles eat other reptiles or mammals eat other mammals. Like. WTF, brain? Birds aren't special. (Yes they are. So special. ๐Ÿฆโคโœจ)

So Netflix has a documentary called Beak and Brain, that highlights Keas and Crows that live in New Zealand and New Caledonia. I. LOVE. KEAS. They are such intelligent little shits. Keas are also known as Mountain Parrots. The documentary shows how the two bird species problem solve, make and use tools. The documentary uses a bit of anthropomorphism, a sort of supposed internal dialogue, but it isnโ€™t overbearing. I think itโ€™s more to try and engage children that might be watching. Other than that itโ€™s absolutely fantastic and you should all love keas and Crows. (Quick warning, it does bring attention to the conservation issues in New Zealand and shows birds being killed by predators. If you are sensitive to such things, it happens around minute 37.)

does anyone ever just slip into a mood where all you do is wander aimlessly around your house and narrate your feelings and actions in your head like youโ€™re in a novel

Monster screams are compared to mountain lions quite a lot in stories. Out of curiosity I finally looked it up. Yeah. 10/10 freaky sound. This comparison is valid.

I've upgraded from Casual Writer to Writer. I realized I had another character to murder and I shouted with delight. Character motivation is fantastic.

It's a great feeling when you realize that the pain meds have kicked in and you can move your neck again. I need better posture at my computer and a TENS unit.

Another video with Havoc and Fury- in which they both try very much to pull apart the zip tie holding their toy to the fence. And yes. That is a King Vulture in the very back. He's beautiful and he knows it. (One of the brothers gives up and goes back to playing with the bell. I'm fairly certain one of the Macaws is what's screaming in the background.)

On Sunday I got to make enrichment for the Aviaryโ€™s Magpie-Jays! Say hello to Havoc and Fury! These boys are brothers about 2 years old that were hatched at the Aviary. It made me happy to see how involved with it they were, though they went after it in a TOTALLY different way than I thought. I was thinking theyโ€™d rip up the paper first, but they were a lot more focused on getting the bell! At one point Havoc braced himself like a dog playing tug-o-war. (The rest of the chain has all sorts of things that if they play it right, they can tear off and play with off the chain.) It was fantastic.
(Video: two birds playing with a long chain with crepe paper and bells attached. They each take turns pulling at the bell. The whistling is the jays, and the screaming is from Sun Conures off camera.)
