part 2 because of the image limit

second cosplay post! this time it’s for the fletcher SUBG costume. I fell in love with this costume last summer and decided I wanted to make it after I finished the romeo one. it took longer than I expected due to a lot of life stuff that was happening in august but I was able to debut it by mid september!

fifi has been an interesting cosplay because like I say in the post, dan actually had a major costume update in january, so I felt that I needed to change my own costume in order to keep up with it. which, much like the original costume, took a lot longer than expected due to the actual pants used in the show being sold but not in my size anymore then a mixup with buying ones in my size secondhand until finally I gave up and bought a dupe that I ended up dyeing as close as I could to the right color.

all three of my player cosplays that I will be making posts about are based off of swing costumes. Ive always loved swings and understudies and I really really love the way & juliet highlights its swings by giving each of them their own unique costume plots. if anything, those three cosplays I made are love letters to all the incredible swings at & juliet.

for a while now i've been fascinated by a phenomenon i call "the law of musical theater" or "rule thirty four and a half": any thing that exists in the general culture for long enough will inevitably be turned into a musical.

there are many, many ways to prove this rule. here's one i discovered this morning: in 1982, some guy called Larry Walters tied a bunch of helium balloons to a lawnchair and flew 16,000 feet over california for 45 minutes. the incident caused a minor stir and earned Larry a Darwin Award.

since then, the incident has inspired not one, but TWO separate musicals. a one-act show called Flight of the Lawnchair Man, and another from 2024 called 42 Balloons.

basically, nothing is safe from the law of musical theater. everything, eventually, will be turned into a musical.

romeo cosplay deep dive!

I made this costume back in july of 2024, it took me 4 days nonstop and is still one of my proudest cosplays to date. since then, it has gone through many minor changes (new pants, new necklaces, new shirts, etc) but the heart of it, the jacket, has remained the same.

“So many words for the broken heart”

An apt quote to start a post having to say goodbye to the incredibly talented Khailah Johnson. For the past year or so, I have hung out in her party section as Judith and cried to her roar as Juliet. I can’t believe the former is happening one last time tonight.

Earlier this week, I was lucky enough to see Khailah’s final show as Juliet. The passion that she brings to that role has always been incredible, but Tuesday’s performance gave me a newfound love for her Juliet and made me even more heartbroken that it was her last. She truly is a force to be reckoned with vocally, both as Juliet and as Judith.

Way back in July of last year, one of the first times I saw Khailah, I watched her and Rachel perform together. It’s a common occurrence at & Juliet for two people who play the same role to go on with each other at least once before the torch is passed. Or in that case, the passing of the dagger from Rachel’s Juliet to Khailah’s Judith. Now Khailah passes the metaphorical dagger to Zalah.

Khailah will always be my Judith. She’ll always be the Judith that was there as I became more and more invested in the show. There will be other Judiths down the line that I’m excited for and cannot wait to meet, but I don’t know if they would ever replicate the experience of the time I spent watching Khailah this past year. I’m gonna miss partying with her a lot.

But also like on a less sad note, how crazy is it that she’s touring with JEFF GOLDBLUM??? That’s literally so cool and I’m so excited for her to continue to sing with him and for her future as a performer. I said she was a force to be reckoned with and I know she’s gonna take the word by storm.
