Once again this sort of thinking is removing a fundamental character arc that makes this story what it is. A big part of Aang's journey, especially in season 1, but tbh it does return in later seasons too, is accepting that he is the Avatar, and that he's the only one who can end this war. During the whole first season he is in complete denial about who he is and what he's supposed to do, which is why in most of this season there's no sense of urgency, and then once Aang gets faced with a very real, very close deadline he panics. This makes it even more brutal when in season 3, after accepting this responsibility, he gets faced with the reality of failure. He runs away again, this time not because he doesn't want responsibility, but because he knows how heavy his responsibility is and he doesn't want to burden anyone else with it. Removing the first aspect, aka running away and denying responsibility, it in turn also removes the heavy emotion from his later arc.
It keeps surprising me that people who claim to be such fans of the original seem to completely miss the point of most of this story? Like how could you look at Sokka learning about women's rights, Aang learning to accept responsibility, and Katara's motherly warmth which happened because how young she was when she had to step into a motherly role, and think "well we should remove that." You're taking out all of character development and going purely off of plot (which isn't gonna be nearly as good without the character development!)
Atla is probably one of the most analyzed and picked apart story, has one of the most long running loyal fanbases, people are STILL making thinkpieces about this show, and you manage to still misunderstand so much???
Just finished season 1 of Peaky Blinders and all i can say is Thomas Shelby is like a soft gooey cookie - u think it's gonna be all hard and crunchy when you bite into it but really it's just, melted butter and chocolate. Basically a period drama kaz brekker incarnation
Just Shadow and Bone + Six of Crows spin-off campaign news, that I thought I'd share, first we reached the billboard goal, second we hit 147k on our petition and we made history by getting 130k signatures in 6 days. Thirdly, we have been given the vimeo reel about the six of crows spin-off, which includes deleted scenes, given to us by the showrunner Eric and Daegen. Fourth, we have been trending a lot on Twitter because of the Twitter parties and the any important news we get, we have also been trending on and off on tumblr. However, there is no official news about it being renewed, but we are making big strides. <3
I am so proud to be a part of this movement and the fandom. Like many other people shadow and bone (the show) changed my life and showed representation of people like me, AND THEN it introduced me to the most amazing duology (six of crows) which changed my life even more. I know we can bring the show back, the representation means so much to so many people, and the cast is the most incredible cast we could've asked for, I am fighting for them and us. We can do it.
This AU has been on my mind ever since I first watched The Terror and I finally turned it into drawings. The two worlds just fit so well together, both being set in the far North and the concept of souls playing such an important part (with the dæmons being the physical manifestation of a human soul and Tuunbaq devouring them). I also really love the decade-ambiguous setting and style of His Dark Materials and it was so much fun reimagining the Terror characters in this universe. And of course matching everyone with a dæmon was the best part.
Crozier's is a pallas cat because it looks gruff and is a solitary animal and used to harsh living conditions.
Fitzjames needed something long and sleek and elegant so I chose a serval cat.
I thought that Silna could be similar to the witches in HDM who have bird dæmons that can physically separate from their humans. I also think that the calm grace of an arctic owl really fits her vibe.
Tozer's is an animal of prey that can hunt and bite, so I chose a prairie wolf (I feel like the Marines would all have similar dæmons that are pack animals).
Edward's had to be something non-threatening and anxious, so I went with a flying squirrel that can hide in his pocket.
Giving Hickey a rat would've been too on the nose (lol) so I went with a sly weasel instead.
