Blessed Solstice, Yule blessings, happy Hanukkah and Merry Christmas and each and every single day to you all fam! Today we are reflecting to all our human kind's beautiful, warm, uplifting, generous, kind and loving customs and rituals, in unity through their differences, in similarities between them and ways to see togetherness where there some could see separation. May we bring these qualities of nurture and light even in the darkest nights to all our actions and deeds, and the rest will just burn away through this ceremony called life. Enjoy the festivities with the healthy mindset and make the best out of it all, and and don't forget - smile is the best gift you can give even to perfect strangers, it is eco friendly, self made and low cost 😉😄💖 #tribalgathering #panama #geoparadise #wavytribe #music #art #festival #musicfestival #festivals #tribes #indigenous #gatheringtribes #community #elders #workshops #talks #lectures #volunteer #share #festiveseason #christmas #hanukkah #yule #celebration #solstice https://www.instagram.com/p/B6b8fI4BUNg/?igshid=1fjpezjpivvax

📷 and repost from @gambitaw @awtransform ・・・ "Throwback to my favorite festival. Just bringing up some good memories seeing so many tribes and cultures in a Caribbean area. " ・・・ This year Tribal Gathering is expanding the number of invited tribes to even more indigenous groups than before and exploring new territories whose original inhabitants will be joining us for the first time in 2020. Mongolia, Kenya, Indonesia, Jamaica, Kuba are some of the countries from which our indigenous guests will be joining us from, each sharing their cultural presentations, sharing stories, rituals and ceremonies, teaching workshops on arts and crafts, dance, music, food. Creating space for the ancestral wisdom to return to the hearts and minds of those who forgotten through centuries of systematic brainwash imposed to us by our own society. This is our true legacy. #tribalgathering #tribal #native #aboriginal #panama #geoparadise #indigenous #african #southafrica #tribalgathering2020 #festivalstyle #betterworld #buildingtogether #centralamerica #latinamerica #nomad #wanderlust #backpacking #globetrotter (at Playa Chiquita, Colon, Panama) https://www.instagram.com/p/B6FHPVEBgIu/?igshid=13ziz5bo0p67v

Juanita Millal Sandoval, a Mapuche Guerrera, warrior mama and a dedicated activist for indigenous rights and cultural preservation. We are happy to host her again at Tribal Gathering 2020 and support her in having her voice heard. For over 2,000 years the indigenous Mapuche people have occupied southern regions of South America as their ancestral land. Since the colonisation of the Americas, the Mapuche have been forced to resist European invasion of this territory through whatever means possible. As the Mapuche continue their struggle to preserve cultural traditions, it’s important to recognise and respect this indigenous group for their customs, history and resistance. In the native language Mapudungun, ‘Mapuche’ translates to ‘people of the earth’. As their name would suggest, many Mapuche practices and beliefs are deeply connected to the natural world and the Mapuche’s ancestral land. Healing ceremonies and the use of Mapuche herbal medicine, for example, are two common cultural practices. The Mapuche shaman, the machi, occupies one of the most important roles in Mapuche society. The machi, who are usually female, perform ceremonies for warding off illness or evil and protecting the community and their harvest. Machis are knowledgeable about natural medicine and the different remedies their region’s biodiversity provides. The tradition of Mapuche medicine is one of the most visible aspects of the culture present in Chile today, used as both primary and alternative treatment to western medicine. The Mapuche, like many indigenous groups around the world, are in constant demand for the return of their ancestral land. Recent protests in capital Santiago and isolated violence in southern Chile make it a pressing contemporary political issue in the country today. Join us at Tribal Gathering's indigenous cultural presentations to gain more insight and learn how to support the cause! Juanita is looking forward meeting you, so are we! #tribalgathering #panama #geoparadise #indigenous #mapuche #southamerica #tribalculture #fightthefight #protest #chile #colonisation #tribes #tribe #transformationalfestival #festival #mama #guerrera #warrior #culture #community https://www.instagram.com/p/B5mU4fEhADT/?igshid=1mewptyiw9jcn

Tribal will again be cooperating with @dougfranciscoartist and @realpreciousplastic projects in 2020 with a mission to help highlight and create awareness about the ongoing world crisis with the plastic monster. Our hope and goal are to ignite creative ideas and solutions. Lightweight, cheap to produce and transport and virtually indestructible, plastic has been a miracle material across countless industries. The downside of course, as we are all becoming acutely aware, is that there is far too much of it in circulation. Globally, between 8 – 12 m tonnes of plastics leak into the ocean every year it’s been estimated that more than 150 million tonnes of plastics have accumulated in the world's oceans. From plankton to pilot whales, algae to albatross – no ocean life remains free from the effects of this plastic waste. 100,000 marine mammals and turtles and 1 million sea birds are killed by plastic pollution annually. Microplastics, the tiny pieces of plastic which are formed when bigger pieces break down in our oceans are now found everywhere from pristine mountain tops’, to the deepest trenches at the bottom of our oceans. It’s even found in the seafood we eat and the water we drink. There's some food for thought! #tribalgathering #panama #geoparadise #beachlife #festival #beachwaste #green #eco https://www.instagram.com/p/B5hUzVWBLJh/?igshid=ieltx9v3ecsk

Native peoples do not look for salvation from worlds beyond. They need no alternate reality, because the mortal world and the spirit world are the same. This Earth is heaven, hell and purgatory; but most importantly, it is home. The greatest of spiritual mysteries may be revealed just beyond the front door, in the life of a community. 99% of all the toothbrushes in the world are made from plastic. And about 1 billion plastic toothbrushes are used and trashed each year, and and that's only in the USA. What’s the impact of this on our environment? The most obvious problem is that most of these plastic brushes will either pollute our environment or sit in landfill. Once in landfill, they will take about 1000 years to degrade. They will never fully biodegrade… They’ll just degrade into smaller micro plastics which are dangerous to us and our wildlife. And when entering the ocean, they can even be mistaken for animals.. like this poor seahorse (photo by Ocean Care)... Microplastics are blowing into rivers and oceans. If you’re struggling to understand the consequences of this, let’s put it into perspective with some really shocking statistics... National Geographic did a study which revealed that 90% of table salts in Europe contained microplastics. And WWF recently did a study that showed: people around the world are consuming a credit card's-worth of microplastic every week. Now we all know that the majority of this microplastic does not come from our toothbrushes. But with over 1 billion brushes being thrown out each year - it’s concerning enough for us to politely nudge our friends and family to make a switch. Bamboo toothbrushes have fully compostable handle. Bamboo plants grow quickly, need little care and may thrive without fertilizer or pesticides. When used in its raw form, such as in the shape of a toothbrush handle, bamboo does have a considerably smaller ecological footprint compared to plastic. This is because bamboo is biodegradable. Small acts, when multiplied by millions of people, can transform the world. Howard Zinn But what about the bristles? To tell you the truth, the bristles are tricky. Finding compostable bristles wasn’t hard. But finding compostable bristles that we could have approved by dentists - is still looming in our future. But step by step, each effort matters. #stopplasticpolution #plasticoceans #panama #geoparadise #wavytribe #festival #festivals #sustainability https://www.instagram.com/p/B4rnx-fhAQB/?igshid=1sqd42ggwebfs

Delighted to announce that Mongolian tribes and performers are now officially confirmed for Tribal Gathering 2020! 🙌☺️✨🎶 Purevkhuu TEMUUJIN and Tsetsgee MUNGUNSHAGAI are khuumii singers who are one of the pioneer professional khuumii singers in Mongolia. They are both students of prof.B.Odusren. Before prof.Odsuren and his team established khuumii study department at the Conservatorium of Mongolia, khuumii was practiced only in local communities. But now khuumii is performed at professional stages national and international level! Temuujin is regarded one of the best Mongolian khuumii singer and morin khuur player as well. Composer Ts.Natsagdorj wrote for Temuujin Mongolian first professional “Concert for professional morin khuur player and throat singer-khuumii”, also with simphony orchestra. In 2009 awarded THE III DELPHIC GAMES -Gold Medal. In 2011 awarded the Prize on behalf of the President of Mongolia. In 2011 won the “Best vocalist” nomination in the Yamaha Asian Beat competition. Has toured over 30 countries: Korea, Japan, China, Macao, Turkey, Hungary, Russia, USA and participated in international music festivals, played solo concerts. Temuujin and his father’s original tribe is located in Chandmani Soum, Khovd Aimag. Khovd aimag is regarded a province consisting of most different types of tribes and communities in Mongolia. Temuujin’s tribal name is Ikel. Ikel is name of old type morin khuur. His ancestors were morin khuur (Ikel) from generations to generations. He is most respected in his Ikel tribe community, because of his international success as morin khuur player. Mungunshagai was born in Ulaanbaatar. However, his childhood related much to his nomadic herdsmen relatives in Govi-Altai aimag. When began school holiday in summer he went often to Govi-Altai aimag. A young boy from big city liked countryside, not only nature and animals but he liked also the music there. Govi-Altai aimg is located in high Altai mountain area. His nomadic relatives moved in Khovd aimag for better pasture land. He met in Khovd aimag his first khuumii and Tsoor teacher. And that is just the beginning of his amazing musical journey and life story. https://www.instagram.com/p/B4H562yBFxj/?igshid=n0bts50j2s0v

Think about this: Anthropologists and linguists say that every two weeks a unique language disappears with its last surviving speaker. As we celebrated our entrance into the 21st century, about half of the world's 7,000 human languages were not being spoken or taught to younger generations. Can you imagine this happening to your own language -- to your own people or culture? But that's just the tip of the iceberg. Along with language, also disappearing are the arts, crafts, vocational skills, folklore, and customs of many traditional and indigenous peoples. National Geographic Society's Explorer-in-Residence Wade Davis calls this the "erosion of the ethnosphere." Today, the world seems to be on a runaway train fueled by consumption and production. As indigenous languages and lifestyles become obsolete at an alarming rate, modernization is transforming the landscape of the planet, globalization is altering our cultural attitudes, and digital communications are changing our conceptions of time and space. It's all moving so fast it feels rather reckless, but what are the alternatives? We're married to progress at all costs, and yet we find ourselves with strange new problems. Energy use, land use, agricultural practices, the population explosion, climate change, cultural erosion, pollution, even international relations seem to be standing on shaky legs. How sustainably are we living in our hyper-connected, mechanized, digital lives? Most indigenous cultures around the world were able to live sustainably for centuries, even millennia. Will we be able to do the same? As Wade Davis said, "All these peoples' cultures teach us of other ways of being, other ways of thinking, other ways of orienting yourself in the earth. And this is an idea, if you really think about, that can only fill you with hope." Even in these industrialized, modern times, the lifestyles and traditions of the past are precious to us. Our hope is to help indigenous people protect not only their language and culture, but also retain ownership of their own future, and for the world to acknowledge the contributions these communities can make to humanity.
