Here's a fun story of malicious compliance to brighten your day:

Until recently, a few people in my office had these desk shades to combat the obnoxious fluorescent lights, which is very helpful for people (like me) with migraines or other light-sensitivity issues.

A few days ago, everyone who has them was told to take them down. Different people were given different reasons - It violates fire code (it doesn't) / It blocks line of sight (sort of?). Since this goes against the existing status quo, the union reps (my beloved) jumped on it. Someone jokingly suggested using umbrella hats instead, since hats are allowed in the dress code. Today, the union reps are passing out these ridiculous things in protest:

I feel like if Shen Yuan and Shen Jiu were to ever meet they'd instantly start sniping at one another with just the most horrific insults you've ever heard. And they'd keep doing it. Every time they interact, it's just roast after roast after roast. At one point, someone (probably Yue Qingyuan if we're being real) would suggest the two of them not interacting anymore, and the Shens would immediately get defensive, being like, "This is my best friend wtf you mean you want me to stop hanging out with him?!"

Because I truly feel like Shen Jiu shows he cares for someone by how horribly he insults them (and in reverse is completely polite to people he loathes), and Shen Yuan is a millennial, even if he does know another way to show he cares, he's not gonna use it.

It is on this hill the two of them understand each other perfectly and everyone else thinks they're crazy.

Fun Story to Share.

I got my (now 18-year-old) daughter into Ao3 back in 2021. I taught her she should always comment - even if the fic looks old or abandoned or whatever. She did.

Well - she got this email this morning:

The fic was written in 2014 and essentially abandoned.

Bethy read and reviewed in 2021 (and was actually the only person who had commented at all).

Today in 2025 - the final chapter was posted by the author and this was her reply to Bethy’s comment.
