hi!! i wanted to ask if Batman & Robin Eternal is worth a read??
Due to how important it is to a large chunk of storylines, yes; it is worth a read! if you want to do it in a chronological manner, i suggest reading the storylines like this:
Grayson and Trinity War in Justice League.
Batman Eternal
Batman: Endgame [Batman #35-40]
Batman: Blood of Heroes [Detective Comics #41-46]
Batman & Robin Eternal
Robin War
Batman: Gordon at War [Detective Comics #48-52]
Batman: Superheavy [Batman #41-45]
Batman: Bloom [Batman #46-50]
Batman: Epilogue [Batman #51-52]
I, however, can't give you my full opinion on it at the moment as i'd have to honestly reread it. Forgot how the characterization went.

I really appreciate you taking the time to share this—especially bringing in your own lived experience. I absolutely agree that “eldest daughter syndrome” encompasses so much more than just being parentified. It’s a deeply emotional and complex dynamic rooted in sacrifice, emotional labor, and a sense of responsibility that’s often invisible or dismissed. Your explanation gives that experience the nuance it deserves.
That being said, I think it’s important we distinguish between characters we identify with and characters who canonically share that experience. When people see Dick Grayson and say “he’s one of us,” I understand it’s because they see reflections of their own pain and burden in his emotional arc, which is completely valid as a lens for connection. But I don’t think the text supports the idea that Dick was forced to grow up too soon for the sake of others in the same way many eldest daughters are.
From the time Dick becomes Robin, Bruce is a very present and protective guardian—not someone who offloads responsibility onto Dick. In fact, Bruce deliberately pushes Dick away from adult responsibilities as a teen, leading to Dick leaving and founding the Titans to assert his independence. He’s frequently portrayed as someone trying to escape from being consumed by the Bat-family’s dysfunction, not someone stuck in the center of it.
When Jason comes into the picture, Dick is already estranged from Bruce and out of the house. During Tim’s early years as Robin, Dick is supportive but again not central to his upbringing as anything but a brotherly figure/mentor—he’s with the Titans or Nightwing-ing in Blüdhaven. And even when Damian enters the fold, Dick only takes on a fatherly role as Batman, and only because Bruce is presumed dead. That’s an adult stepping into leadership during a temporary crisis, not a child sacrificing his own life to hold a family together.
In canon, Dick’s emotional arc is often about choosing to step up for others when Bruce fails—not being forced into it from a young age. That’s a meaningful distinction. It makes him heroic, but it doesn’t make him a narrative stand-in for the lived experience of so many eldest daughters.
None of this is to say people can’t relate to him that way. But I do think it's worth drawing a line between personal interpretation and canon-based analysis—especially when that interpretation (if even unintentionally) leans into gendered or stereotypical readings like “eldest daughter = emotionally selfless caretaker.” We can recognize that people relate to Dick as a symbol without retrofitting that dynamic onto his actual story.
Can we.... stop referring to Dick as an eldest daughter? There was never any expectations for him to raise his siblings and he's usually doing his own things when they just start out under Bruce's care. Yes, he took over some of the responsibility when Bruce was caught in the time stream, but he was a grown adult by that point. A grown adult cannot be 'parentified'. Also, this was a crisis situation beyond just having an absent parent, not their day-to-day life.

fun headcanon that dick grayson is insanely resourceful and can turn random and bizarre objects into weapons when he’s in a pinch:
Dick is on a stealth mission gone wrong, when the vent he was crawling through collapsed right out from under him. He slammed against the ground, groaning in pain before a goon was on top of him. He kicked the guys legs out, getting up and running out into the hallway. It’s only moments before he gets shoved through a door on the right. He clenches his side, gritting his teeth as his back hits against a shelf.
A janitors closet.
The guy starts closing in on him. He looks to his right, spotting a wet mop, grabbing the handle, snapping it in half, and successfully creating some make shift escrima sticks. He uses it to knock the newfound gun out of the goon’s hand, quickly flipping forward, pinning the guy with his legs, and using the stick as a pressure bar until he finally falls unconscious.
Splintery but effective.
He’s running through a hospital cafeteria, trying to lose a tail, he spots a lunch tray, adorned with a metal thermos. Dick quickly grabs it, and proceeds to chuck it full force at the guy’s head, he’s quickly knocked out.
Dick sighs in relief before realizing that more guys are closing in on him from the front, he has to turn back, spotting thermos guy, grabbing the bottle, opening it, and splashing the hot coffee directly into another guy’s face, he uses the same thermos to knock out the third goon.
Dick is trapped in a low budget costume shop on the East side of Bludhaven, two guys are pursuing him when he ducks behind one of the racks of halloween props. The two guards enter through the door, guns raised and flashlights gleaming through the cracks of the metal shelves. Dick looks around, seeing a rubber chicken.
He grabs it, shrugging his shoulders before releasing the squeaking sound. The guards are so confused that they don’t even notice the chicken being lobbed straight towards them, it squeaks midair, smashing against a rack and knocking the entire thing down.
Dick lunges from behind them, knocking one guy out with a quick elbow, grabbing the chicken from the floor, and shoving it into the mouth of the other guy just as he turns. He punches once in the throat, kicks the gun out of his hands, and sweeps his legs out from under him.
“Add that to the list of humiliations you’ll never live down.”

just to be clear ! i am aware of this. It is just that out of every candidate, she'd be the one i'd have no problem with taking up the mantle, if she decided she wanted to! i also just miss her.
My controversial opinion is that the Batman mantle shouldn't be passed down at all, since it is too intertwined with Bruce's fundamental personality and being, to the point where anyone taking it up will always feel off or not exactly 'right'.
Unless you're Helena Wayne, then you can do whatever you want.
