Thank you for visiting VimeoShorts. I hope you will enjoy these exceptional short films. I've been visiting vimeo.com for about 5-6 years and soon I started noticing that while although almost all of the posted films on Vimeo are great, I preferred some over others. So, came the idea of a portal with my own selection where I collect those films which for my taste are truly outstanding. For optimal experience full screen mode and headphone is recommended. These films are not made by me, I simply re-post them. All the credits go for their original creators. Thank you for vimeo.com, thank you for all the super-talented film makers.

KUMANO - 熊野
Kumano is a region in Japan where Shugendo, the Way of ascetic training and testing in holy mountains, has been practiced for over a thousand years. This entire short film was shot there. It shows Yamabushi monk Kosho Tateishi, a Master and Teacher of Shugendo, during prayer rituals performed in the wild and at his temple. In his spiritual practices, Kosho is in visceral contact with the elements (earth, water, fire, wind) and in fusion with sacred Nature. The experience of Life through the physical senses awakes our consciousness and ultimately leads to enlightenment in this very body.

Not The Same River. Not The Same Man (2017)
A fisherman takes his boat out on the river. While he and his surroundings are in a constant flow, the viewer observes the passing of time, watching everything go through movement and change. In an ever-flowing cycle, things come to be, change, evolve, and pass on....
- 'No man ever steps in the same river twice. As it's not the same river, and he's not the same man.' (Heraklit)
Created with acrylic paints, this animation explores the idea of time and movement in animation. As we believe, only through change and movement, we can perceive time. In animation, this relationship is deepened as only through change time and movement, can exist, with a change happening frame by frame.

Now Is the Time
When internationally renowned Haida carver Robert Davidson was only 22 years old, he carved the first new totem pole on British Columbia’s Haida Gwaii in almost a century. On the 50th anniversary of the pole’s raising, Haida filmmaker Christopher Auchter steps easily through history to revisit that day in August 1969, when the entire village of Old Massett gathered to celebrate the event that would signal the rebirth of the Haida spirit.

Withdraw
This is not a story about war, or poppy cultivation or even the ongoing governmental issues that have been so prevalent in Afghanistan’s more recent history.
This piece offers up an intimate description of a country that is just coming out of a thirteen year period of foreign military occupation. With the vast amount of negative coverage Afghanistan has seen over the last decade, reportage illustrator George Butler aims to portray a first hand impression of how things are developing and how life continues despite the uncertainty of the countries situation.

Selfies by Claudius Gentinetta
In a veritable firework display of digital self portraits, hundreds of quaint, embarrassing and dread-fully disturbing selfies were arranged in a unique short film composition. Single photos, artistically reworked, consolidate to form a ghastly grin that outshines the abyss of human existence.
Claudius Gentinetta works as freelance graphic artist and animator in Zurich.
