As someone pointed out, the quote is an incorrect summarization of the interview transcript. However, I'll still defend the fandom stance in that this isn't another baseless thing that came out of nowhere. There is a source. It is wrong, it turns out, but it exists.

Listen, I'm more of a canon follower than the average modern fan, so there are a lot of things I don't personally like that nowadays are taken as a given, but at the end of the day, it is a fandom built on crumbs.

Anyways, thanks for the correction, I see where they are coming from now. And happy for the Prongsfoot and Jilypad shippers. XD

Can we please add “James supported Lupin financially after Hogwarts” into the list of things the Marauders fandom thinks is canon even though it is actually completely fanon? Because James didn’t. There’s no mention of it in the books and Rowling has never actually said any such thing in her interviews.

Barty x Rabastan Lestrange

Why, you might ask? Hear me out. Because he was there for the torture of Frank and Alice. Who else was there? Bellatrix, her husband Rodolphus and Rabastan. All Lestranges. And then, Barty is also there randomly? No, I don't believe so. In my opinion, the four of them torturing the Longbottoms was 100% their idea of a double date, a bonding activity. And here's how I think it came to be:

In my mind, it became a thing after Evan's death. Barty was seething with anger and grief, he became even more violent and relentless than he already was. And who are the Death Eaters we know for being peak psychopaths? The Lestranges, so of course Barty, who was already a wild one, fit right in with them. In fact, being older than him, they received him with open arms and Rabastan in particular stepped in offering a twisted sort of comfort, taking him under his wing.

I don't know if there would be actual love or anything like that there; I think it probably was just Rabastan seeing and loving the pure rage and how unhinged Barty had always been and how it had been heightened now - maybe he even encouraged that rage and kept the wound of the grief open, in a subtle, manipulative way because of how sadistic Barty became over it. Can you see it? Can you see Barty, teeth gritted with anger, brutalizing his victims while Rabastan is watching over his shoulder, softly whispering "Make them pay. These blood traitors took Evan from you. Why do they get to go on and pollute our society with their filthy blood when Evan is dead?", "That's it, Barty... They didn't hesitate when they killed Evan, did they?", "Come on, Barty. Evan deserves more than that. They deserve to feel your pain tenfold." ...

And on Barty's side it was just having an enabler for his violent coping mechanisms and someone who masked the emptiness Evan left. He didn't even have Regulus anymore, he was already long dead over this and the word was that he died a traitor to their cause. So he threw himself deeper into the war and the violence and at night allowed Rabastan to lay on Evan's side of the bed. It was better than having it empty.

Anyway, I've thought about this a lot.

I've been around, okay? I come and go into fandoms in phases with a few ones that stick around for a bit longer, so this is just the tip of the iceberg. I'm also a multishipper, though I do have preferences of course.
