Beautiful Darkness
It was hard feeling like an outsider even within the community which was meant to accept you, until someone notices you.
Like always my requests are open!
The world had always feared your powers. They were a manifestation of darkness, something that seeped from within you, an ever-present shadow that twisted and turned, hungry and insatiable. Where others controlled fire, light, or the elements, you controlled something far more sinister. Your power was the ability to manipulate shadows, to bring forth the hidden fears and nightmares lurking in the minds of others. It was a gift, but one that felt like a curseâan alienating force that set you apart from everyone else.
Even at Xavierâs School, a place meant to be a haven for mutants, you found yourself on the fringes, isolated by the very nature of your abilities. The other students kept their distance, their unease barely masked by polite smiles. Even the professors, with all their wisdom and experience, looked at you with thinly veiled concern. They feared what you could do, what you might become if your powers were pushed too far.
And so, you withdrew, hiding in the shadows of the mansionâs grand halls, where your powers felt most at home. It was in one of these dark corners, far from the laughter and light of the others, that Magneto found you.
Erik Lehnsherr was a figure of power and authority, his very presence commanding respect and fear. When he appeared before you, a part of you wanted to shrink away, to avoid his piercing gaze. But another partâthe part that had always longed for understandingâheld its ground.
âWhy do you hide?â he asked, his voice as smooth as steel.
You looked up at him, surprised by the directness of his question. âIâm not hiding,â you replied quietly, though you both knew it was a lie.
He stepped closer, his cape rustling softly as he moved. âYour powers are extraordinary, yet you treat them as a burden.â
You swallowed, the weight of his words pressing down on you. âEveryone else thinks theyâre dangerous. Even here, among mutants, Iâm⊠different.â
Erik studied you for a long moment, his expression unreadable. âDifferent does not mean lesser,â he said finally. âIt means powerful. It means unique.â
His words caught you off guard. You had grown so used to hearing caution, fear, even pity, that his admiration was a shock to your system. âYouâre not afraid of what I can do?â
âAfraid?â Magnetoâs eyes gleamed with something close to amusement. âNo. I see beauty in it.â
âBeauty?â you repeated, unable to comprehend how someone like him could see anything beautiful in the darkness you wielded.
âYes,â he said, his tone almost reverent. âYou command the very essence of fear, the shadows that hide the truth of the world. There is a purity in thatâa strength. While others dance in the light, you thrive in the places they dare not tread.â
For the first time, someone didnât look at you with fear or disdain. Magnetoâs gaze was one of approval, of respect. It was a look that made you feel seen, truly seen, for the first time in your life.
âWhy do you care?â you asked, the question spilling out before you could stop it. âWhy do you care about someone like me?â
Magneto smiled, a small, almost wistful curve of his lips. âBecause I have seen what the world does to those it doesnât understand. I have felt the sting of rejection, the pain of being told you are something to be feared rather than cherished. But power, true power, comes from embracing who you areâeven the parts others would reject.â
He reached out a hand, and for a moment, you hesitated. But there was something in his eyes, something that drew you in, made you trust him despite the warnings you had always been given about him.
âJoin me,â he said, his voice a soft but commanding whisper. âI can help you see your power for what it truly isâa gift, not a curse. Together, we could show the world that the darkness is just as beautiful as the light.â
You looked at his outstretched hand, then back up at him, your heart pounding in your chest. This was Magneto, a man who stood against the very principles you had been taught to uphold. But in this moment, he was also the only one who saw you, who saw the beauty in the powers you had always feared.
Slowly, almost hesitantly, you placed your hand in his. His grip was firm, reassuring.
âIâm not like you,â you whispered, the weight of your choice heavy on your heart. âI donât want to hurt people.â
Magnetoâs gaze softened, and he nodded. âThen donât. But never apologize for the power you possess. Embrace it, control it, and let it be a part of youâwithout fear.â
For the first time, you felt a spark of hope. Perhaps he was right. Perhaps there was a way to accept the darkness within you, to see it not as a monster lurking in the shadows, but as something beautiful, something powerful.

Maria was the one you wanted. You chose her, and youâd do what you had to to keep her.Â
Whatever it took.
The sound of her laugh was the sweetest music that had ever graced your ancient ears. You threaded your fingers through hers, dissolving into a fit of giggles as she wiped ice cream from her nose.Â
âI would have licked it off!â you protested with a playful pout.Â
She shrugged and brushed the icecream against her nose till it was covered once more, âgo ahead.â she challenged.
You raised an eyebrow and leaned in, licking the icecream off her button nose.Â
Maria gagged playfully, rubbing at her nose. âYou are SO gross! I didnât think youâd actually do it!âÂ
You doubled over with laughter, âI had to after that! You totally dared me to!â You pouted once more, âbesides, is that any way to treat your girlfriend? Do I disgust you?â You threw your hand over your forehead in a dramatic display of faux offense.Â
Maria mock gasped, âah of course not darling,â her hands touched her nose with playful reverence, âI shall never wash this nose again.âÂ
âEw,â your nose scrunched.Â
She shoved you playfully, âyouâre terrible,â she beamed.Â
âYou love it,â you whispered, your forehead resting on hers.Â
âI do,â she whispered back, before moving to capture your lips in a sweet kiss.
Davidâs eyes narrowed as he took in the sight of you and Maria, too wrapped up in each other to notice he was watching.
He blew out a harsh cloud of smoke, a terrifying smile gracing his face.
âWhat are we gonna do aboutâŠthat,â he gestured with his cigarette, before flicking off the butt and grinding it into the dirt.
âNothing,â Dwayne said firmly, âweâll only drive her away if we meddle.â
David scoffed.
âMaybe heâs right,â Marko chimed in, âmaybe scheming isnât the answer? How long can she ignore the mate pull anyway, itâs only a matter of time.â
David frowned, âso what? We sit back and watch while our mate parades around the boardwalk with someone else? This is our territory Marko, itâs downright disrespectful what sheâs doing.â
Dwayne sighed.
âYouâve been awfully quiet blondie,â David clapped Paul on the back as he hung to the dock railing, staring off at the waves as they crashed over the shore.
âWhatâs there to say?â
Markoâs face softened and he moved to Paulâs side, hooking his arm through Paulâs.
âWhat do you mean âwhatâs there to say?ââ David frowned.
Paul shrugged.
âYouâre giving up? Just like that?â David grit, âyou hound us for weeks about this girl and what? Youâre just done with her? Sheâs ours Paul.â
âI canâtâŠâ he took a deep breath, âI canât stand to see her look at me like she does.â
David fell silent, his arms crossed.
âItâs like that pull between usâŠitâs like it hurts her,â
âThatâs not possible,â David muttered.
âThatâs not what I meant,â Paulâs gaze met his. âI donât wanna hurt her anymore.â
Markoâs hands traced patterns on Paulâs back as he returned to stare out at the waves.
David stomped out his cigarette. âLook, letâs just follow âer a bit longer and see what we see.â
âIâm done tailing her,â Dwayne said, âwe canât blackmail someone into loving us.â
âWho said thatâs what weâre doing?â David moved to stand toe to toe with Dwayne, âjust think of it as gathering info.â
Paul shook his head, huffing a bit, âIâm out,â
âMe too,â Marko added, not meeting Davidâs eyes.
The boys began to peel off.
âDo what you want David,â Dwayne placed a hand on the bleach blond vampireâs shoulder, âbut look at her.â He nodded towards you, and David followed his gaze.
You were smiling brightly, unlike anytime theyâd ever seen you. Your fingers intertwined with Mariaâs, her lips pressed against your ear, murmuring something that made your smile grow.
âWould you really take that away from her?â
Davidâs jaw clenched, âwe could make her ten times as happy.â
Dwayne shook his head as he walked off towards his bike. Something told him this wasnât going to end well.
David rolled his eyes as he lit up behind a column while you, finally, kissed Maria good night.
Following the two of you had proved entirely fruitless. Your frequent public displays of affection had only served to increase his ire towards the whole situation.
Heâd hate to go home empty handed and face the boysâ smug faces. He hoped that once you were alone, heâd be able to findâŠsomething. At this point, he wasnât even sure what he was looking for.
As Maria drove away, you began to stroll off.
David threw his bike a quick longing look, promising to return for it later, before following the path to your home.
As you walked the trail, David was close behind concealing himself within the trees. He was grateful you were always so lost in your own thoughts, or he was sure your heightened senses would have tipped you off to his presence by now. He smirked, being an apex predator had made youâŠcareless.
The closer you got to your destination, the more familiar the woods seemed to become to David. He knew this path, heâd walked it countless times before.
But you couldnât beâŠcould you?
But when you strode up to that Maxâs front door, his tall form waiting for you in the doorway, tapping his foot impatiently, David couldnât believe his luck.
Max was your sire. He must be. Traditional, family man, âmates are the greatest gifts to vampire kind,â Max.
David chuckled to himself, the beginnings of a plan forming. You had no idea what you were in for.
As the days passed, you and Maria were closer than ever. It seemed like you spent every one of her waking night hours wrapped in her arms. (Even some of the hours you were meant to be working, but what Max didnât know certainly wouldnât hurt him.)
It seemed like Davidâs gang of misfit vampires had gotten the hint too. You hadnât seen any trace of the bikers since youâd caught a glimpse of them creeping on your date a few days ago.
Good. They should leave you be.
But when you were with Maria, happy as you were, you couldnât help the consuming feeling that something wasnât quite right.
You hated it.
It bubbled up in your chest, like you were going to vomit, but nothing would ever come out. It was like pressure, keeping you on edge when you should be completely at ease. âYouâre missing something,â it seemed to whisper, âyouâre always going to feel this way.â
Again and again, youâd shake it off.
You preferred to lose yourself in the taste of Mariaâs lips, the softness of her cheeks, the warmth of her smile.
But that feeling, it always found itâs way back.
You tried to suppress your doubts as you trekked home.
When you arrived at Maxâs front door, he wasnât waiting to greet you.
You frowned, but shrugged it off. Surely heâd just tired of your attitude towards him. Youâd figured heâd take the hint sooner or later anyway.
But when you opened the door, you were met with the sight of Max sitting at his dining room table and sipping from a wine glass, full of a liquid you knew was not wine.
He gestured to the empty seat across from him, a matching glass placed in front of the chair. âSit,â he commanded casually.
Your eyes narrowed, but you obeyed.
He took a long drink from his glass, âyou have been spending a lot of time with that Maria girl.â
Your fists clenched, but you willed yourself not to react too strongly. âSheâs my coworker, what about it?â
Max set his glass down. âDo you think Iâm a fool?â
Your breath hitched. âWhatâs wrong with me dating?â You asked, âI thought youâd be happy to see me putting down roots.â
âNothing wrong with dating,â he shrugged, ânothing wrong with dating humans, nothing wrong with dating girlsâŠâ
âThen what are we doing here?â your nails dug into your palms as you waited for his reply.
âBecause there is something wrong with dating a silly human girl, when you have been blessed with mates.â
You felt like all the air had been knocked from your lungs.
âH-how did you-â
âYou thought you could hide this? Please,â Max scoffed, âI have eyes everywhere.â
You were too stunned to speak.
âDo you know what I would do to have a mate?â He hissed, âand look at you, wasting what fate has decided to give you. You really are every bit the ungrateful child I thought you were.â
âSo what?â Your anger threatened to spill over, âyouâre going to order me not to see her? Youâre going to thrall me?â
âNot quite,â Max clasped his hands together, âlet me put it this way. If you refuse to break off this little dalliance with Maria, I will kill her.â
âWhat,â you whispered in shock.
âIâm a vampire,â he stated plainly, âI eat humans remember? As do you?â He gestured at the glass in front of you.
âI have never felt the need to apologize for what I am, and I have never been afraid to use my gifts to get what I want, just as you have.â Max reminded you.
Your mind flashed through every disgustingly wealthy man you had âdated,â drained, and discarded for all those years in Manhattan.
âThatâs- itâs- that was different.â
Max hummed, âyou may see it that way, but regardless, whatever you had with Maria, itâs over. If you want her to live that is. Doesnât she have that big family to take care of?â
You pushed away from the table, storming towards the stairs. Before you started to ascend them so you could lock yourself in your room, you turned to face him.
âYouâre a monster.â
Max nodded, âmaybe, but my dear, so are you.â
You tore your gaze away from his, racing up the stairs and slamming your door.
âIâm only doing whatâs best for you!â He called after you.
You laughed bitterly and collapsed onto your bed. For the first time in a long time, you wept.

Amazing as always!!
Fate Yields For No One
Chapter Four
Were you wondering what the boys were doing while reader and Maria were bonding at the video store those two weeks? Wonder no more! Hereâs what they were up to lol
I strongly recommend going back to at least read chapter 3 before reading this one, as some of the scenes will be the same, but from Paulâs perspective:)

Paulâs eyes widened as he realized who you were to him. You wished you could have stopped the word that fell from his lips.
âMine.â
Paul stared at you, his eyes raking up and down, taking you in. God you were beautiful, the others would love you. As his shock wore off, Paul felt a giddy feeling bubbling in his chest.
He had a million questions to ask you. Your favorite food, your favorite color, your favorite band. Paul had to know anything and everything. (Even if you liked Tiffany or something, he could get over itâŠeventually.)
As your lips parted, Paul prepared himself to be enchanted by whatever honeyed words youâd speak to him. He reached forward to caress your cheek.
Instead of leaning into the touch as heâd expected you to, you recoiled. His brow furrowed.
âOh my god I totally forgot I have to go stock things in the back, so nice to meet you, bye!â He heard you blurt out before you moved away from him.
There were few times in Paulâs life when he was actually rendered speechless. This was one of them.
Paulâs brow furrowed, âwhat?â He whispered as he moved to stand in front of the deskâs swinging door youâd been headed for. Surely heâd misunderstood (wouldnât be the first time), you had to at least talk this out.
He watched your face twist into a glare, âyouâre in my wayâŠâ you bit out at him.
Paulâs confusion turned to frustration. âWhat?!â He repeated, âbut weâreâŠI mean we-â he stumbled over his words, desperate and utterly flabbergasted.
âI know what we are,â you told him, âand I donât care. So can you please move aside so I can do my job?â
Paulâs jaw dropped.
YouâŠdidnât want him? Didnât want a mate? Someone whoâd love you unconditionally for eternity? Whoâd do anything for you? God what was wrong with you?
He stumbled a bit as you pushed past him. âHey!â He called after you, his ego more bruised than itâd ever been.
âThis isnât over you know,â he promised, resolved to win your heart, even if he had to recruit someâŠreinforcements.
You scoffed, oblivious to Paulâs plotting. âSeems like it is,â you replied before slipping into the back of the video store.
âWhat the fuck just happened,â Paul murmured to himself as he rubbed his forehead.
Maria whistled âtough break Paulie.â She bumped him with her hip before she went back to returning DVDs.
Paul scoffed. She didnât know the half of it. âI gotta go Maria,â he muttered, stalking off with his tail between his legs.
She snickered softly as she watched him go.
Paul shook his head, he was gonna be in for one long conversation when he got back to the cave.
Paul slunk across the boardwalk, hands in his pockets, as he made his way back to his bike.
His head nodded along to the beat of the music playing over the speakers. Paul started to tap out a four count on his thigh as he walked and hummed.
âAre you going to that bonfire Friday?â âI dunno, is Jason gonna be there?â âUgh, probablyâ Paul huffed a laugh as he eavesdropped on the vapid boardwalk talk.
A bonfire on Friday did sound fun though. Should he and the guys throw a party? Who would they even invite? Maria? Maria, who worked at the video store with his new mate. He sighed. What a mess.
As he walked, his mind wandered to her pretty face. He wished she would have let him touch her. She looked so soft. He just wanted to hold her. He could be gentle!
He huffed.
Didnât she realize he was hers? Didnât she know heâd do anything for her? Heâd be anything she needed? Heâd probably even cut his hair for her if she asked. As long as she let him hold a memorial service after.
She was pretty, and soft (probably), witty and fiery, and she was right there at the video shop and she didnât even want him. How fucked was that.
Paul frowned as he finally reached his bike, looking back over his shoulder in the shopâs direction. Itâd been a while since heâd felt that hollow longing feeling of being alone.
But he wasnât alone, not anymore. And whatever had happened back there, he and his boys were gonna fix it, he knew they would.
Paul revved his engine with renewed determination. âJust wait pretty girl,â he thought, âcause weâre comin back for yaâ
When Paul arrived at the cave, each of the boys were too immersed in their own activities to notice.
On the couch, Dwayne was two-hundred and twelve pages into his thirty-first reread of Dostoevskyâs The Brothers Karamazov and from the way Dwayne was hunched over the book, quite literally on the edge of his seat with his brow furrowed, Paul could tell it was just starting to get good.
Though Paul could barely think over the harsh whirring sound of Markoâs sewing machine. Heâd been occupied with making patch-work vests and skirts lately to expand his wardrobe. And while Paul appreciated having some extra pieces around he could borrow, after weeks of hyper fixated, non-stop sewing, the sound was worse than nails on a chalkboard.
Davidâs constant foot tapping didnât help either. He was perched in his wheelchair throne, seemingly reviewing some ancient documents. By the way he was squinting and underlying, it seemed to be pretty important stuff.
But none of this was as important as what Paul had to tell them. He cleared his throat pointedly.
The whirring of the sewing machine slowed before coming to a stop, Dwayne looked up from his book expectantly, and a little annoyed, David continued his work, ignoring Paul entirely. âIâm calling a meeting,â Paul stated confidently.
âYou donât have the authority to call a meeting,â David said without looking up from his papers, âonly Dwayne and I do.â
Paul wondered if he could explode David with his mind if he tried hard enough. How would he know if he never tried?
âWell itâs an emergency,â Paul gritted.
David met Paulâs frustration with a mocking pout. âDealerâs out of the good stuff again Paulie? Tragic.â He turned back to his papers.
Dwayne seemed to sense Paulâs desperation, âwhatâs wrong Paul?â he asked.
âI have another mate,â he said hesitantly, âwhich means that you guys probably do to.â
David stilled at the same time Marko gasped, the curly haired vampires lips curling up into a bright smile.
âWhat are they like? Are they nice? Are they funny? Are they hot?â The shorter vamp bombarded Paul with questions, making him cringe.
Dwayne frowned, âPaulâŠâ he began gently, âwhy arenât they here with you?â
A broken look crossed Paulâs face, âsheâŠdoesnât want me.â
Markoâs excitement was extinguished as he came to Paulâs side, lacing their fingers together. Dwayne softened, quietly reflecting on Paulâs words. David frowned.
âWhat do you mean she doesnât want you?â he narrowed his eyes.
âExactly what I said dude,â Paul strained, âshe said she didnât care!â
David leaned back, unconvinced. âTell us exactly what happened, start to finish.â
Paul nodded and painfully recounted every moment from the excitement of meeting you, to the pain of watching you leave as he picked up his jaw from the floor.
David stroked his chin, âare you sure sheâs a vampire? Human mates are rare, but theyâre not unheard of,â he mused.
Paul scoffed, âduh sheâs a vampire! She said, âI know what we are, and I donât care.â How would she know we were mates if she wasnât a vampire?â He threw his hands up in frustration.
âDid she say, âI know what we are,â or did she say, âI know what you are,ââ Dwayne chimed in.
Paul scratched his head, what did she say? Heâd been talking about what they were, but had she? He couldnât quite remember. âShe could have been saying âI know what you are,ââ he decided.
Davidâs hands clapped together, âso sheâs human, but she knows weâre vampires, or at least that you are Paul. Unsurprising, you and Marko have the combined subtlety of an airhorn at the opera,â Paul rolled his eyes. âThatâs an easy enough fix,â David reasoned.
âMakes more sense too,â Marko added. âIf she ran off, it was probably because she was scared. If I was a human I wouldnât wanna fuck around with us to get bit either.â
âWhy donât we give her some time,â Dwayne suggested, âprove weâre not going to rush into the video store and drag her out to hurt her or anything. We could give her some space to calm down from her confrontation with Paul, and then we can all go meet her together.â
The boys nodded slowly, considering Dwayneâs plan.
âAnd,â Dwayne added, âif sheâs human, we all need to be on our absolutely best behavior,â he shot a pointed glance at David.
David rolled his eyes, âIâd teach her to be on her best behavior,â he mumbled.
Dwayne sighed. âLetâs just give it two weeks, then weâll go check in on her,â he paused his voice taking on a gentle tone once more, âI think we could all take some time to cool off.â
Paul tensed at that last part, but he knew Dwayne was right. You were a human and you didnât understand. You couldnât! Theyâd have to show you, go slow, ease you into things, be gentleâŠyou were basically made of glass after all.
He sighed, âtwo weeks,â he thought, âI can do two weeks.â
He could not do two weeks.
Not gracefully at least.
By the end of those two weeks, Paul was practically feral. The second the Sun began to fade into the horizon, Paul was awake and attempting to drag David out of the cave.
As eager to meet you as they were, the boys had grown tired of Paulâs impatience.
Dwayneâs evenings consistently began and ended with âhas it been two weeks yet?â The dark haired vampire had come so close to just buying Paul a damn calendar.
Marko had had to stick to Paul like glue to stop him from wandering off to the video store every night. On two unfortunate occasions, Marko AND David had to drag him back to the cave to stop him was barging in to talk to you. Paul was like a dog with a bone when he wanted something, and he wanted you bad.
But Dwayne has assured him last night that today was the day, and Paul was chomping at the bit. âLetâs go,â he groaned, annoyed and excited.
âPaul.â Dwayne chastised.
âDwayne.â Paul mocked.
âPaul,â it was too early for this shit. âI know you want to see her, we all do,â Dwayne reminded him. âBut I think we should wait until closing.â
âWhat?!â Paul huffed, âIâve been waiting two weeks! Now we gotta wait longer? No way man!â
âPaul listen,â David groaned, âwe canât have a long, intensive conversation with her about vampire mates with random human customers running around, get it? Itâs a private conversation.â
Marko nodded in agreement, âitâs doesnât seem fair to drop all of that on her while sheâs still at work either,â he added, âitâs better if we get âer as sheâs leaving.â
Paul rolled his eyes, âwhatever, I bet Fishyâs on my side.â He grumbled as he stalked off to his room.
âYou think we should invest in one of those backpack leashes for him?â Marko asked, only half joking.
David scoffed a laugh, âdonât tempt me.â
When closing time finally came, Paulâs eagerness had wavered. What if they explained everything and you still werenât on board? Humans had tons of reasons to fear vampires after all, you might want nothing to do with them.
He shuddered at the thought.
He looked to his left to see Marko biting his thumb, equally nervous.
âA human mate,â he muttered under his breath, âwhat are the odds.â
David rolled his eyes, âif sheâs a human I can use my thrall, why are you idiots so worried.â
Paul and Marko shot him dirty looks, but Dwayne placed a hand on his shoulder. As tough as David liked to pretend to be sometimes, Dwayne knew he was nervous too.
âNo use waiting any longer,â the dark haired vampire reasoned, âcâmon.â
Dwayne lead the way, pushing the door to the video store open and letting the bell ring softly as the other boys filed in behind him.
The vampires maneuvered to the desk together, passing through aisles theyâd walked through a million times over.
The silence was deafening as the boysâ thoughts whirled with what theyâd say to you. How theyâd explain the significance of vampire mates to a mere human.
Dwayne sighed, they probably had nothing to worry about. Even as a human, thereâd still be a pull for you. And he could work with a pull, no matter how small.
Heâd show you, he decided. Show you how amazing it could be to be cared for, to be protected. Heâd treat you like a princess, heâd worship you if you let him.
God you must be his if he was already thinking this way. The tug at his heart grew stronger and strongernwith every step. If you only knew the effect you had on him, on them all. If you only knew you could have him wrapped around your finger.
When the boys finally reached the front desk, Dwayneâs musings were shattered by the vision of your tongue down Mariaâs throat.
He watched as Davidâs jaw dropped when he was met with the sight of one of your hands tangled in Mariaâs curly locks, the other caressing her hip.
Heâd felt it, and by the looks of it, David and Marko had too. You were theirs, but you were tangled in Mariaâs embrace.
The boys were too stunned to speak.
Until Paul abruptly broke the silence with a resounding âwhat the fuck.â
