Still here...just not HERE here
If you鈥檇 like to see more up to date progress on Wayfarers, please check my my devlog in itch.io and my twitter account since any updates I post here are pretty much just copying and pasting my updates from those two sites.

I decided to completely remove the bottom section of the marketplace to make it so most of the vendors are actually shops instead of NPCs. Did more updates on Lily鈥檚 intro and learning how to use crafting and item stock limit plugins. #Wayfarers #solodev #indiegamedev #devlog #shops #craftingsystem #rpgmaker #plugins #tryingtokeepotsimple https://www.instagram.com/p/B-pYABungWa/?igshid=112mx53pjrkad

I'm back on working on Wayfarers!
While putting Wayfarers on hold, I was thinking a lot about Lily's intro since she seemed like the least favorite of the three characters from some of the people that provided me feedback. Aside from making dialogue changes, I also added a battle scene in her intro. I figured it is best to show battle scenes in the beginning of the game more often to clarify to first time players that battling is going to play a significant part in the game.
The default battle system that is included in RPG Maker is being used as a placeholder for now but I would love to make a more customized battle system. Ideally with more detailed/custom made sprites for both characters and enemies, unique attack animations, and special actions. But that'll have to wait while I focus on moving forward with the game as a whole.
I also came up with a great idea regarding the Menu/HUD/UI parts of the game. Does anyone know any good plugins or methods on customizing those parts of the game? Things like text, cursors, and icons?

Reaching 1000 Views
So earlier this week I reached (drum roll please)...
I actually debated about posting this because I don't know if 1000 views is a good number for a game that's been out for about a year. But you know what? Regardless of the time/view ratio being good or bad, I'm still proud to have reached 1000. Especially since I haven't really done a whole lot of advertising for my game. Although I'm not getting 100's of views and downloads a day, seeing the number of views still going up motivates me to keep working on.
I'm really eager to get back to work on Wayfarers because even though I haven't been able to work on it directly, I'm still brainstorming and compiling notes here and there on where I want the story to go. I've also been browsing through the plugin bundle I bought from Yanfly to see if there are any fun plugins that would make sense to include in the game.

Still plugging away at the game. Mostly under the hood kind of the stuff. In the meantime...I found the old Pangaia comic strip that baka_ryuu made for me years ago. Although there are plenty of things I'd like to change, writing wise, I'm going to leave it as is. A kind of "warts and all" kind of thing. Or maybe a "preservation of time" thing. You get the idea. Here are some of the first few pages:

Work Mode Music
Last week everyone at my work was "strongly encouraged" to do overtime so I I had a lot of adult things to catch up on over the weekend. This means I didn't have any time to work on my game at all. :(
However I feel like I should post SOMETHING on here so I figured I'll post a link to one of the music channels I listen to whenever I'm working on my game or writing:

Cloaking Malfunction Animation and Random Map Generator
Even more writing/story stuff this weekend. BUT WAIT! Before you roll your eyes and move on to wherever else you plan on surfing to, I have more visual things to show. I am also applying more changes to the demo part to make it better fit some some of the key events later on in the game. One particular task I felt like working on this weekend was a simple yet important animation I wanted add to the (currently) mysterious person that attacked the train. Here is the very short animation I made:

More Lily Stuff and Changing the name of "Pangaia"
This time I put a lot of work into Lily and changed a lot of her lines in her intro. Reading her original lines, I can see how she could come off as boring and maybe even a little incompetent so I even plan on adding a few scenes to complement my line changes.
Here's a screenshot of one of the lines I changed:

I worked on the design of another character in the game. I have to clarify that I say "design" very loosely because of my limited options in the built-in character generator for RPG Maker MV. I've found a few bundles here and there that have given me a few more options but I'm unable to make nearly as many facial expressions as I'd like to for the characters. My major concern for this is the more key characters I introduce into Wayfarers, the more recycled and repetitive some of their features will start to look. But that's something I'll have to worry about later. These are the two characters I have made since starting this project back up. #wayfarersgame #indiegamedev #solodev #characterdesign #slowlybutsurely #newcharacters #rpgmakermv #devlog #devdiary #gamedevdiary https://www.instagram.com/p/B5OCKSZnQw_/?igshid=oyyuzm00bvj4

I was getting familiar with how the built in battle system for RPG Maker MV works and integrated it into the beginning of the game as a kind of placeholder. I added a little background music for this video to slice things up a bit. If you鈥檙e curious about the song, a link for t can be found on my devlog on itch.io. #wayfarersgame #rpgmakermv #battlesystem #solodev #indiegamedev #devlog #lofifinalfantasy https://www.instagram.com/p/B4vJz9unzR0/?igshid=1n9xnl1idnnwv

Still working on the outline of the game and also went back to the demo to make a few changes. Here鈥檚 a picture of a scene that I made a change in. I鈥檓 particularly excited about this one because it relates to a story arc I鈥檝e been picking at for about a year now. For those that are familiar with the scene, can you spot what鈥檚 different? #wayfarersgame #devlog #solodev #foreshadowing #rpgmakermv #indiegamedev #characterdevelopment #eyespy https://www.instagram.com/p/B4u8VEfnngK/?igshid=1lyv83ewez5uf

Update: Adding a Battle System
I said I'd start working on Wayfarers again in November and it's already here. As I've been outlining the story, piecing together what assets to use, and taking note on some of the changes I want to make in the original demo, I have already run into a big decision. Although the title says it all, I guess it's only proper to formally announce what that change is: I'll be adding a battle system to Wayfarers.

RPG Maker stuff at Humble Bundle! (MOAR ASSETS)
One of Humble Bundle's....bundles is a bunch of RPG Maker stuff聽(sale ends 14 days after this update has been posted). Not only does it include a bunch of assets like sprites, character generator parts, music, and tile sets, but also programs like Game Character Hub: Portfolio Edition to help me better customize characters. The bonus is that it also includes Visual Novel Maker which I've been curious about messing around with. I'm pretty excited about this because the more assets I have, the more options I feel like I have in what I can include in Wayfarers.
In the heat of the moment of spending things, I also saw a bundle for a bunch of Unity related stuff聽(sale should be just about over since this update has been posted). After finishing the demo for Wayfarers, I took a little online course to learn the basics of Unity. "Assets" is apparently the magic word for me because I also bought that one because it had assets like full 3D scenes as well as some tools to help with 3D animation. This one was only $15 so it didn't feel like too big of a purchase to make for the assets I was getting out of it. Maybe having these assets will push me even more to finish Wayfarers (at least a chapter/part 1 of it) quicker so I can play around with Unity. If I had the patience (or maybe even a studio full of workers at my disposal), I'd invest in making something Wayfarers related in the Unity engine. But for efficiency sake, at least for this project, I think I'll stick with RPG Maker MV.

To the devs who use default RTP assets, your game can be just as good as those who don鈥檛 use them. Don鈥檛 let anyone tell you otherwise. Your project is special because you made it!

Check out my devlog on itch.io to see what 鈥榮 been going on with me since publishing the demo for this game. TL;DR Someone reviewed my game and loved it. Motivated. Gonna start working on the game again on the weekends. #risefromyourgrave #life3 #resurrection #wayfarers #imbackbaby #thegamedawg https://www.instagram.com/p/B3LLcZiHrGt/?igshid=19jocx74kxjbn
