I feel like some of you guys think "bad art" is like someone gluing rhinestones to a water melon, or a guy who made his own armchair out of Ohio license plates, or a trashy romance novel where someone says "the blue-eyed one kissed the brown-eyed one," when in reality bad art is a 1000000 Billion Dollar movie where none of the workers got paid and every single creative decision was market tested to see how lucrative of a profit it could foreseeably make to wow shareholders.

5 Tiny Writing Tips That Aren’t Talked About Enough (but work for me)

These are some lowkey underrated tips I’ve seen floating around writing communities — the kind that don’t get flashy attention but seriously changed how I write.

1. Put “he/she/they” at the start of the sentence less often.

Try switching up your sentence rhythm. Instead of

“She walked to the window,”

try

“The window creaked open under her touch.”

Keeps it fresh and stops the paragraph from sounding like a checklist.

2. Don’t describe everything — describe what matters.

Instead of listing every detail in a room, pick 2–3 objects that say something.

“A half-drunk mug of tea and a knife on the table”

sets a way stronger tone than

“There was a wooden table, two chairs, and a shelf.”

3. Use beats instead of dialogue tags sometimes.

Instead of:

"I'm fine," she said.

Try:

"I'm fine." She wiped her hands on her skirt.

It helps shows emotion, and movement.

4. Write your first draft like no one will ever read it.

No pressure. No perfection. Just vibes. The point of draft one is to exist. Let it be messy and weird — future you will thank you for at least something to edit.

5. When stuck, ask: “What’s the most fun thing that could happen next?”

Not logical. Not realistic. FUN. It doesn’t have to stay — but chasing excitement can blast through writer’s block and give you ideas you actually want to write.

step three: save it as a draft and leave it for an undisclosed amount of time

step four: start a youtube video and pause it a few seconds in as i suddenly gain motivation to write

step five: write for two hours and only get a few paragraphs done

VAT7K Headcanons

Characters: Varian, Hugo, Nuru, Yong

Type: Headcanons

Warnings: Brief, non-detailed mention of childhood trauma and abandonment in Hugo's section.

A/N: Just my take on what the VAT7K crew is like. I plan on writing about them in the future (hooray for several month long hyperfixations), so I thought it'd be helpful to sort out my interpretations here.

Varian

This section is going to be the shortest since we already know lots about Varian.

I see him as being at least 18 in VAT7K, but I could also buy him being as old as 20.

He's mostly the same as he was in the final season of TTS, but a little more mature and confident. He's able to take his failures in stride rather than letting them get him down, and he's also completely come to terms with his past.

He also refers to the others as being part of Team Awesome.

Hugo

Roughly 19 - 21 years old.

Unsurprisingly, Hugo had a rough childhood. No friends, no family, no home... It's always just been him against the world. I imagine he made some companions here and there, but none of them stuck around. Sometimes it was their fault, sometimes it was his fault, but he managed to convince himself that being alone is what he likes. When people leave, it's because he wants them to.

(He's actually horrifically lonely, but he won't admit that. He already lies to everyone else— so who cares if he lies to himself too?)

Though he is a talented engineer, Hugo mainly excels in street smarts and charisma. He prefers to get others to do the hard work for him while he reaps the rewards.

Gets along well with kids and small animals. Dogs have never liked him, though.

Starts the series off as the devil-may-care bad boy, but by the end he's become the responsible one and he constantly acts like it's the worst thing to ever happen to him. He loves taking care of his friends; he just also really loves complaining.

Nuru

She's around the same age as Varian, maybe as old as Hugo.

I picture Nuru as being similar to Rapunzel in that they were both sheltered from the world growing up, but unlike her, Nuru never got the opportunity to come out of her shell.

She really is eager to make friends and experience new things, but that can also be a bit scary to her. Thinking about it is one thing, while actually doing it is another.

She was taught to always remain compsed, so she usually pushes all of her feelings— good or bad— down. But she also has a very, very big heart and it can be hard on her to keep everything in.

Nuru likes to have a plan for every eventuality. She hates breaking the rules or going against her routine, and that can lead to minor inconveniences turning into major problems.

She has a very formal way of speaking and is always polite during conversation. She would have to genuinely despise someone to lose her cool around them.

Very hard worker. She doesn't want others to dote on her just because of her status so she always tries to help out, sometimes to the point of overexerting herself.

Yong

Yong is probably around 10-12 years old, which means he's old enough to know better but too young to care.

I see him as being, like... a miniature mad scientist. He's an absolute sweetheart and never wants to hurt people, but he also has the same levels of manic energy as Dr. Frankenstein.

He mostly likes helping out the others with whatever they're doing, but sometimes he starts projects of his own. Most of them are beyond his capabilities and end in disaster, but that never deters him. He's spirited— maybe a little too much for his own good sometimes.

He comes from a big adoptive family and is used to having others look out for him, so being on this journey is his first taste of real responsibility. He's willing to shoulder it, but he is still just a kid. He can't handle everything by himself. So he's really grateful to have the others around and appreciates everything they do for him.

Very emotionally intelligent and empathetic. He doesn't always understand the complexities of how someone might be feeling, but he can recognize when its weighing on them. His go-to way of comforting people is with physical affection, but he also understands that not everyone is comfortable with that.

Varian & the Seven Kingdoms Headcanons

making this stupid fucking image got me thinking, so uhhhh... here's the main ninjago characters as different sonic species!!

Kai & Nya - Hedgehogs

Kai is probably the most similar to Sonic out of the main cast— and he was arguably the main character for the first five seasons— so it just makes sense to me that he'd be a hedgehog. Plus, his hair is is spiky like a hedgehog too! And Nya is a hedgehog too because, well...siblings. Duh.

Jay - Babylonian/Blue Jay

C'mon. I had to make him a blue jay. His name is literally Jay and he's blue!! Anyways, it also fits because lighting comes from the sky (likes where birds fly) and, as of Dragon's Rising, he's been an antagonist just like the Babylon Rogues were at first. Maybe that last one's a stretch, but who cares.

Cole - Echidna

Immense strength? Check. Association with nature and/or earth itself? Check. Complex family history? Check.

I rest my case.

Zane - Chameleon/Robot

I had to make at least one of the ninja a chameleon. And thanks to Zane's cloaking abilities, I think it fits him the best. I also considered making him a Gizoid specifically, but they're so closely tied to the Master Emerald and ancient Echidna society that I just don't think it would work. Maybe he's based off data from a Gizoid but he doesn't have quite the same power set, just like Gemerl.

Lloyd - Fox

Tails is best friends with Sonic, so I thought it'd make sense for Lloyd to be a fox so he matched with Kai and Nya. Foxes are also usually either tricksters or wise masters in stories, which fits both Lloyd's younger and older self. Plus, both Lloyd and Tails love MINTS!!!

I could see both Wu and Misako as foxes while Garmadon is part Darkling (aka the Black Arms, aka that evil alien species Black Doom is from). And then maybe the First Spinjitzu Master is a mutant Chao, like Chaos? Which I guess means Chao are dragons in this AU and the Black Arms are Oni, and I just think that's very funny.

Arin - Rabbit

Honestly I just think it'd be cute.

Sora - Cat

Obvious.

Wyldfyre - Sungazer

Sungazers are a type of lizard that were named that way because they stare at the sun when they bask. Lizards are reptiles, like dragons, and they like heat. Also, the little spikes all throughout Trip's design reminds me of Wyldfyre's general untamedness.

writing advice for characters with a missing eye: dear God does losing an eyes function fuck up your neck. Ever since mine crapped out I've been slowly and unconsciously shifting towards holding my head at an angle to put the good eye closer to the center. and human necks. are not meant to accommodate that sorta thing.

Making Cookies With Mob and Reigen

Characters: Shigeo Kageyama, Reigen Arataka, Reader

Relationship: Platonic

Type: Headcanons

Warnings: None

A/N: I thought I'd write something simple and cute for my first real post here. Platonic relationships are my absolute favorite thing to write, so I hope you enjoy this as much I did.

Neither Mob or Reigen are good at cooking. Like, at all. Mob can make simple things like rice balls and sandwiches, but he's hopeless when it comes to anything else. Meanwhile Reigen has been eating nothing but microwave dinners for the past twelve years, so any kitchen skills he might've had are gone now.

So when you suggest baking cookies together on their day off, they're incredibly reluctant. It takes a lot of pleading to get them to agree, and even then they still try weaseling their way out. But you're persistent and you have your heart set on spending time with them! They're going to make these cookies whether they want to or not!

Because of their disastrous inexperienced skill level, you have to take the lead while they do their damn best to follow it.

Turns out that they're really bad at following instructions.

"Master, are you sure this is a good idea?"

"Of course it is! Why bake it at 375 degrees for fifteen minutes when we'd save so much more time by baking it at 500 degrees for five minutes? Use your head, Mob."

They were devastated when the cookies came out as charcoal. Well, Reigen was devastated— Mob kinda saw it coming. You're just relieved they didn't burn down the kitchen.

So you guys try again...and again... and again, but nothing comes out right. Eventually you run out of ingredients and have to stop. The boys are really embarrassed and apologetic, but you do your best to reassure them.

"I'm so sorry, Y/n. We let you down... And now you have to go grocery shopping, too..."

"It's no big deal, really! You tried your best and that's what matters. Besides, I'm just happy we all got to spend time together. How about we try again next week?"

"Really? Even after we wrecked your kitchen?"

"Eh. It's cleaner than I thought it would be."

From then on, baking cookies became a weekly ritual for you three. It took a few more tries for them to get it right, but when they did, they were ecstatic. Literally the happiest you'd ever seen them.

Reigen took a dozen pictures of you, him, and Mob posing with the cookies and sent them to all his contacts— like a proud parent. They were cold by the time he was done, but that's okay. He's having fun.

As you ate and celebrated, Mob eagerly talked about all the other recipes he wanted to try. Having something fun to do every week, and with two of his favorite people at that, really meant a lot to him. It made him feel like a normal kid with a normal social life. Reigen tried not to seem as outwardly excited, but it's still clear that he's just as happy.

The three of you continue meeting up every week to bake. You even bring back the leftovers for the others at Spirts and Such! Some of them, like Serizawa and Teru, like to join in on the fun— to varying results— but they're also content to reap the rewards without actually doing any work.

The fridge is constantly filled with leftover sweets and everyone keeps getting cavities, but no one has the heart to say anything. Not when you're having so much fun.
