i think the main thing i'm wondering with deltarune is, what was the knight trying to Do in the church? judging by the call on kris' phone the church was very deliberately chosen and in that first corridor they seemed Very determined to keep kris and susie from getting to the fountain while later they seemed to just kinda lazily fling swords at the party so did they manage to achieve what they set out to do by then? how did gerson factor in, did they know he wouldn't use the shadow crystal? was the Titan the goal and did the party manage to thwart that or was the titan just to help the knight escape? did the knight know gerson would help the party defeat it? was the party defeating the titan The Goal? it just seems like the knight is Several steps ahead but we don't know how many yet.

my guess is that the knight did all that mess and drama to distract the party while rummaging around for the code in the church. back at the holiday house they seemed Very desperate to keep susie from finding the code in dess' guitar and the demeanor of the knight in the latter half of ch4 is pretty Haughty, like summoning the titan was just a formality, just twisting the knife a little, showing off how powerful they are etc. (actually i just did the titan fight again and that's making me doubt this a little, like the party can die against the titan And they would've been screwed if gerson didn't show up again so maybe what i read as haughtiness was the knight's cool demeanor cracking and they summoned the titan to make a hasty getaway? who the fuck knows, not me.)

god there's so much we don't know it's gonna drive me crazy.

i've been making art and posting it online for several years now but about a month ago i realized the first time i did one of these art summary thingies was 10 years ago in 2014, so i decided to do another one to compare the two. (thoughts below cut)

i'm honestly not entirely sure what to think about it, especially since i've been in a rut for the last few years (slowly climbing out of it) so it's difficult to look at this comparison and say the 2024 side is an improvement. i think my eye for detail and my process and grasp of technical skills has definitely improved but my motivation has been shot to hell and that's had a huge effect on my ability to recognize i Have made some things i really like this year despite it all.

i think the big thing i've been trying to relearn that came really naturally to me 10 years ago was making art as a way of communicating, either participating in fandom spaces or expressing some neat idea that i really wanted to share. a lot of the art i made over the last few years was me desperately clinging onto any semblance of creativity i could get my hands on because it genuinely felt like i had lost my artistic spirit and the fleetingness of every crumb of motivation and scrap of an idea seemed to further prove that. some combination of time, working with art despite the lack of inspiration and trying to relearn what my very secretive brain considers to be fun indulgent art has i think helped bring that back somewhat.

despite all the myriad reasons not to be i am optimistic for 2025 if only because i'm determined to appreciate what good will happen because there will Always be at least Some good. i'm optimistic that i'll continue to regrow my artistic inspiration and motivation and keep making things. idk how often i'll be posting since keeping this process of fixing things private and focusing on making art for myself has been a very helpful part of it i think, but i do want to eventually get back to the point where i share my art with other people again because i have missed that, so here's hoping for that in 2025!
